A great choice along the Riverwalk! The elevated seating area gives you a perfect view of the river and makes for some top-tier people-watching (yes, it’s definitely fun). It was nice and quiet when we visited, which made for a super relaxing experience. The menu is simple but offers something for everyone. The portions are generous—especially the appetizers. I ordered tacos from the appetizer section, and they were easily a full meal on their own. 🤤 Definitely a spot I’d visit again!
If you are walking the Riverwalk and need a break from the heat (and the Tex-Mex), Mad Dogs is the place to be. My partner Stacey and I grabbed a table on the terrace, and honestly, you can’t beat the location for people-watching and soaking in the energy of the Riverwalk. The atmosphere is fantastic—lively, fun, and just the right amount of loud. The staff really leans into the theme (kilts and all!), and they were cracking jokes and keeping the service fast despite how busy it was. As for the food, the Fish & Chips were the real deal—crispy batter, flaky fish, and piping hot. I washed it down with a cold draft beer, which tasted amazing after walking the river all afternoon. For the Photographers: The terrace here offers one of the best vantage points for getting those classic Riverwalk shots without fighting the crowds on the sidewalk. Sit back, enjoy a pint, and get your photos while you relax. #SanAntonioRiverwalk #MadDogsPub #FishAndChips #SanAntonioEats #TravelPhotography #RiverwalkViews #BritishPub
Had a great Reuben at Mad Dogs. Well cooked, good bread, nice corned beef, good thousand island. If I nit pick...maybe need a little stronger sauerkraut. The location is great and nice to sit outside on the Riverwalk. Found it weird they were out of their "signature dish" fish and chips for lunch so that was disappointing. Overall a great place to stop in San Antonio on the Riverwalk.
Had so much fun! Great food with great people. Thank you for being open on one of the coldest nights of us visiting. It was our 30th Anniversary and you did not disappoint!
Great spot. Food was fantastic. Fish and chips were very good. Drinks and service were great. Soda tasted a little weird but otherwise awesome spot!
Sabrina did a great job taking care of us. It was our first time there. I went with my friend and her kids to check it out. We love the food and had a wonderful time together. It’s right on the river, got to see ducks and pretty scenic views along the way. Would definitely recommend it. 😁
This place was one of the best dog friendly bars I’ve found. Came in Xmas eve and the whole staff was fantastic shoutout to Jacqueline who was our bartender who got us dinner. You all looked fantastic in the Xmas sweaters. Food was great, atmosphere great, our dogs loved it
We brought our large group and had the best service from Ashley S!! She did a stellar job making sure we had everything we needed. She pays attention to all the details!!! And she was so sweet to talk with- even visiting with my youngest daughter for a while making everyone feel welcome! Definitely request Ashley as your waitress!!! The atmosphere was superb. We were seated right along the riverwalk (although indoor seating was available). All the food from burgers to fish and chips to drinks was delicious! 10/10 recommend!
It’s a pub, with great live music and really attentive staff. They were very friendly and did their best to accommodate my toddler, giving her pineapple juice and turning down the speakers of the live music for her without us asking for it. It was still too loud though, and they were kind enough to box up our incoming food for us and let us pay early. I love that so much, and the food was great!
We stayed in San Antonio for the night on our road trip back to Arizona from Ft. Worth and I'm sure glad we did! Being on the riverwalk with so many options can be highly overwhelming!!! especially with long waits at just about every spot but I can promise, this place is worth the wait ... and the service! It was super cozy and homey inside and it truly felt like we were transported back to our hometown between the amazing food and great service. the Riverwalk itself is absolutely beautiful -- but BUSY! the wait to eat anywhere was about an hour, so luckily we were able to enjoy the riverwalk with a cocktail before they text us that our table was ready and we got sat. Nicky and V got us sat at the most perfect table by a window so we got to people watch the riverwalk while they took great care of us that night! To start we had the parmesan truffle fries which were so so good and we enjoyed our drinks. For dinner, I had the Prime Rib special with mashed potatoes (although I reallllly wanted the brussels!!! I just am a sucker for prime rib and mash together) and my husband had the filet with mac and cheese. We both absolutely loved our meals and everything was cooked to perfection. Highly, highly recommend!
To start off, I would like to say that I was extremely surprised to see that this restaurant was rated at a 4.2 stars. This was the best experience I had ever had at any restaurant. Our waiter, Alex, did a fantastic job. A few of the things I noticed that I don’t see anywhere else: when my root beer was low Alex did not even need to ask what my drink was before filling it back up, literally everything was delicious, and Alex was simply the best waiter I have ever had in my life (granted I don’t do fine dining much, but I want to do it here now). I ordered the Shrimp and Artichoke Pasta, which I highly recommend. I shared it with my father and in return he gave me some of his Chicken fried Chicken. I didn’t even need to use a knife for the Chicken it was so tender. I don’t know if we ordered several appetizers or what but we ordered the Range Rattlers and the Queso Fresco with Brisket. All of it was delicious. Alex said everything there is made from scratch and my mother said she could tell. I wasn’t really paying attention to that because I was too busy eating a fantastic meal. They gave us free bread in the beginning and also some complementary soup or salad. I decided on the potato soup(it was the soup of the day at the time) and I loved it. I would love to come here again. I highly recommend asking for Alex as your waiter if that is allowed. I will be recommending this place to anyone that I know will be in the area.
What an experience! My first time visiting San Antonio and I knew I wanted a great steak, a cold crispy beer, and Monday Night Football. This place had it all. From the moment I walked in to the moment I left, the service was exceptional. Hats off to Campos who helped me navigate the menu what a legend. The sirloin was cooked to perfection it melted in my mouth. The IPA was fresh and ice cold. And the interior? A huge vibe. You have to see it for yourself. Loved every minute of my time at Saltgrass Steak House. Highly recommend!
First time dining in at a Saltgrass Location, and I must say the environment was incredible. I came with my niece for Thanksgiving since we are both away from home. She’s in the Navy and I just so happened to be in San Antonio. And I will say, all the rave of their meals has been spot on. Flavor and well cooked. The service was superb. And the atmosphere was awesome. Thank you for the exemplary dining experience!
In San Antonio on a beautiful sunny fall day. We are returning to the River Walk after an absence of around five years and it was delightful to see all the work that has been carried out on the River Walk to make it easier to walk without maneuvering around restaurant tables. Saltgrass is an excellent example of this table placement. They have a separate outside balcony set back and slightly higher than the river walk (as well as a large indoor dining area). We sat outside and enjoyed the warm weather and the beautiful view. The table was large and comfortable and quiet enough that we could have a conversation. Jullian was our server, he was efficient and personable throughout our meal. We started with a large plate of Fried Mushrooms for an appetizer There was more than enough for us both, and I had a Shiner Holiday draft beer to wash them down. Then we both ate Center Cut Filet with loaded baked potatoes and I drank a reasonably priced 9 oz glass of the house Cabernet. It was an excellent lunch, cost before tip was $126. The restaurant location was perfect for our afternoon walk along the river walk.
We celebrated my grandmothers 94th birthday on a river barge with saltgrass for lunch. Samantha coordinated the event for us and she was absolutely amazing. She was patient and very helpful in accommodating our large party. Joseph was our server during the river cruise and he was phenomenal! On top of all our orders and made sure we were well taken care of. I can’t thank saltgrass enough for helping make her birthday celebration so memorable. We definitely will be returning.
Julian was great. He recommended his finest bourbon old-fashioned which I got. As a tequila drinker, he actually recommended his favorite drink, which got me to try it, which is unheard of these days and he was amazing and consistent. Thank you Saltgrass, Riverwalk for our great experience.
Pretty great steak place for a chain. Visiting from oot so thought it would be good. Great location to boot!! Staff was on point and helpful. Food was delicious and plentiful. Not the most expensive place on the river walk - but not cheap. Steaks were outstanding and the sirloin was delicious as was the ribeye. Probably one of the better sirloins I’ve tasted!! The Texas poppers - with shrimp were huge!! The pumpkin cheesecake was delicious!! Would def go again.
This is my second time at saltgrass steakhouse so I was excited to eat here again. The view at this location was amazing. The weather was lovely and I knew exactly what I wanted to order off the menu. I got a T-bone steak with brussels sprouts and the Caesar salad. My friend ordered the cheeseburger with baked potato. My steak was good, but unfortunately, it was overcooked and didn’t have the kind of char that I got last time. The bread came out a little late. But was still warm so I enjoy that part. I do understand service can change from restaurant to restaurant and thank goodness I was server was great because it saved my experience along with the view along the canal. Would eat at this franchise again, but next time be very specific about my steak.
Very impressed with my visit to the Salt grass Steak House on thr San Antonio Riverwalk. I was lucky enough to get a spot outside overlooking the water. I ordered the sirloin and it was incredible. Perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection (medium, how i like). The service was top notch as well. Saltgrass will be my new go to when visiting San Antonio.
We sat at the bar during happy hour. The food was fantastic. The drinks were good. The service from the bartender was great. He was very friendly and took care of us promptly. Jenny the manager even came by to check on us. If you have never tried saltgrass for happy hour its a must. All apps are half price. We had the range rattlers. Its a shrimp stuffed inside a jalapeño with cheese an deep fried. Soooo good. They even have some cocktail deals on happy hour. You won't be disappointed. Probably the best happy hour on the RIVERWALK. Also get you a landrys select club card to earn points when you dine. Then you can use them as a reward whwn you get enough points. Thanks to all the staff.
This is one of the best restaurants we ate at in San Antonio. Alex was an amazing waiter. He was extremely attentive and made some great suggestions. it was our daughter’s birthday and he went out of his way to make it extra special. the NY strip and chocolate cake were absolutely delicious! highly recommend this place. ask for Alex!
Can't go wrong with their New York strip Mac and cheese and large margarita. Service was great we went in on a slow night.

Our meal and staff were great. One of the best meals on the Riverwalk. We sat outside, nice patio area. drinks and food spot on!
Our group of 9 decided to patronize this steakhouse on our last day of our reunion. You need a reservation. My BIG steak did not disappoint. Happy travels!

Food was average. Fish and chips were the best thing we ordered, also had spinach artichoke dip and a chicken sandwich. Service was fair because she forgot our drinks, didn’t get the order right, and never came to check on us. Waitress seemed newish so she still got a good tip. The view was what we were there for.
Mad dogs es super busy and super fun. The staff was excellent. Fish n chips and the wings were super yummy and great drink specials . We will go back .
The pizza was the bombs 🔥 The pot pie was delicious The chicken sandwich that I had was not very appetizing. 😪 But when we come back, we will try other things 🙏
We just happened upon this place as we strolled the Riverwalk. It wasn’t busy, and we were seated immediately. I don’t think the hostess told the waitress she had seated us in her section so it did take a short bit before we were acknowledged. However, when our waitress (Faith) saw us, she apologized about the wait. She was a fabulous server, personable, kind and appreciative. We just had a couple of cocktails and lunch: chicken tenders and fish and chips. Quite tasty. I have NEVER ordered fried fish before anywhere. I have no idea what prompted me to order it, but it was a very good choice. This was a totally unplanned stop on our trip, but it was probably our favorite. We experienced so many rude restaurant staff on the Riverwalk—to the point we don’t want to go back. But the staff at Mad Dogs—especially Faith—were great. Thank you!!
Host Stand: The greeting wasn’t very warm, but we were seated within a reasonable amount of time. Service: Demetris was an excellent waiter — friendly, smiling, and it was clear he genuinely enjoys his job. Food: Overall good. The menu and quality were what you’d expect from a solid steakhouse, and the surrounding area adds an upscale atmosphere. Overall: 4/5 - We would definitely return.
An excellent list of steaks to choose from, a wide selection of cocktails and beverages, amazing views of the river and the Riverwalk. I liked the urban cowboy steak with shrimps and mushrooms. The Trailblazer cocktail was excellent as well. I enjoyed the views of the location. What I didn't expect from this place was the service. It was weird. A 15-min waiting list in a half-empty restaurant resulted in 20mins waiting. No beverages menu, until explicit request, a polite but indifferent intro into the restaurants specials. And not a single smile, no engagement during the entire visit did I get, as if I were not sitting there at all. Given that groups around me received a friendlier treatment, I presume, a solo dining is not hailed in this place. I rarely leave the complaints of that kind, but that utter indifference impressed me. The high quality of food and the charming ambiance leveled the overall impression. Unless you are going to dine solo, you may consider this place.
Located on the Riverwalk with both river and street access. Lots of parking lots available nearby but be prepared to pay $25-$30. This particular visit was $25 for 3 hours. Restaurant accepts reservations and split checks which is a plus. Our party was 16 ppl and from being seated to the end our visit was 2 1/2 hours. Drinks and appetizers vame out quick, the meals and checks took a little longer. Our server was great, very friendly. Food was delicious.
Had been working in Kerrville for quite a stint, stayed the night in SA to make it easier for flying out the next day. Saltgrass looked like a good bet, I've been to one in Houston and it was decent.…
The steaks were cooked perfectly, the view outside was very nice, only drawback was there was no drink menu, and the server was kinda invisible.

Ambiance was truly stellar, and yes you get to keep your glass. However, we missed the keep your glass part and it was nearly $25 dollars for one drink. Also, all the beers on tap were generic. For a British Pub I went there expecting an english ale and was disappointed that there were none. Staff generally friendly.
We hit this spot for dinner on game night - it was buzzing. Got the flatbread and veg burger with sweet potato fries. Flatbread needed more crisp. Burger lacked lettuce/greens. Service was solid - funny greeter wanted to make biryani someday and the waiter was friendly too. Definitely worth a try.

First restaurant we tried on the River Walk and it was disappointing. We sat at an outdoor table for about 10 minutes, watching uniformed staff casually chatting without paying attention to us. I eventually flagged down the gentleman who was calling in customers. He joked that we were in his “blind spot” (the owner would understand what he meant). Once we finally received service, things were acceptable. Food and drinks were decent. However, one important issue was that the wheelchair lift was out of order, meaning there was no accessibility for wheelchair users to enter the restaurant, not ideal.
Our bread was cold and hard not even warm and hard to cut into , our food could of been presented a little better than it was and my steak was dry as heck ! For it not being too busy we should have gotten way better food and service from a fine dining restaurant as such ! For the $100 dollars we spent on just my bf and myself kinda disappointed...

What a horrible experience. I don't often write 1 star reviews, but I'll make an exception for an experience where I have absolutely no desire to come back. A romantic Riverwalk experience is the wrong expectations for Mad Dogs. That should've been obvious by the uniforms the staff wear. They're really going for bar maiden rather than any sort of decency. We sat outside in hopes to enjoy the Riverwalk atmosphere, but Mad Dogs seemed to actively work to destroy this. Right next door is a lovely jazz band playing where the patio can here it, but inside and just outside at Mad Dogs, they blast horrible music and have huge sports games. The music was a stark contrast with what was going on next door and hearing them both was quite unpleasant. Then at 9pm their musicians started blasting their own music and we new we had to leave soon. There was no warning that this would start within 35 min when we were offered our table. Sitting right next to us there was a man smoking a cigar right next to us, which was frequently leaving a stinging odor as we waited. That didn't add to the atmosphere we were looking for. We ordered a Texas Chili Mac burger and the soup, which the waitress tried to order, but found was sold out. Fine, but usually you'd be told what is sold out before being asked what you'd like. So we switched to the Longhorn Steak and Ale pie. And we waited for about 20 minutes before our waitress coming to tell us they're all out of that pie as well! So we changed to the Cottage Pie as a last ditch option, when we really should've left. Surprisingly 5 minutes later our order is out. The food was hot and the Cottage Pie was decent. The burger was inedible. It was quite obviously sitting under a heat lamp for those 25 minutes. (Ironic because it was cool enough outside that a heat lamp would've been nice on the patio.) It made the top bun crispy while the bottom was soft. The meat was poorly cooked and also dry. The rest of the toppings were such an afterthought they detracted from a dry overcooked patty. The Mac and cheese were in such low quantity that I thought they forgot them. When I brought up how the burger was so bad I didn't want to eat it, our waitress just offered to discount it. Apparently that didn't mean remove it or make it right, but instead give $1.90 off the price. Which ended up being about half the credit card fee I didn't see posted. Mad Dogs was really an affront to all 5 senses.
DO NOT RECOMMEND! Staff was inattentive. Sat down, no service, not offered a drink after a few minutes waiting and very few people in the restaurant. We were passed by several servers literally moving chairs. Bartender, Jackie, was rude, rolled her eyes and made a comment to a server as we were leaving. We were only addressed when we got up to leave the restaurant. It was painfully obvious we were not welcomed in this restaurant. Would like to speak with corporate office regarding my experience tonight.
Terrible food and very slow service. We got the Scotch eggs, they were 90% crust. Then we ordered the cottage pie. Pulled off the top layer and there was maybe 2 tablespoons of filling. Had to send it back. We had to wait a full 1/2 hour just to pay for the appetizer and beverages. No refills offered during the time there either.
I don’t often leave bad reviews, however, the service we received was particularly poor at Mad Dogs. When we arrived we were told to sit anywhere we would like so we chose a nice table outside to enjoy the riverwalk. In my opinion the table we chose was likely in a blind spot for servers, but I do not think that warrants the mediocre service we received. We ordered a drink from our waitress, received it, and then seemingly got ignored by her for the next 20 minutes. This was particularly disappointing because we wanted to order more and instead of being approached again we watched our waitress stand around, not even engaging with other guests, for a lot of it. After the second attempt to flag her down as she passed us failed we eventually resorted to flagging down a different server to order another drink and some fries. It took another several minutes for our server to reappear to ask what we would like to order. In total we interacted with 4 different servers and the 3 who weren’t assigned to serve us did a better job than our original girl. If dining on the riverwalk please consider dining elsewhere. As for Mad Dogs, y’all should consider removing the table to the left of the stairs closest to the river as I believe this blind spot issue greatly contributed to our poor experience.
