This place is a gem. Best happy hour menu in the area. Spotless environment. Kind staff and lovely ambiance. I highly recommend sitting at the bar with Luis. RUN, do not WALK! Just like other reviews said, this place will ruin other Japanese restaurants for you. You have been warned. The FISH is so super FRESH. I enjoyed the Chefs Tasting Menu during restaurant week and left feeling so satisfied and happy. Chef Ethan was there making sure things were perfect but his staff were absolutely rocking all departments. I loved my margarita and lychee martinis. Really enjoyed all the dishes that came out, but the King Ora Salmon sashimi stole the show for me as well as the ***yuzu sauce*** with Rock Shrimp Tempura on top. The Bluefin was truly spectacular. I can't eat at crappy sushi places no mo'! Thank you, Glass Box! Please give Luis a raise!
From the very first bite, this place makes it painfully clear they are not here to play. Every piece of sushi was impossibly fresh—the kind of fresh that makes you pause mid-chew and question every other sushi experience you’ve ever had. The fish was so tender it practically melted in your mouth like butter, rich, clean, and perfectly balanced. And here’s the part that really sets this spot apart: it’s not just heaven for seafood lovers. The wagyu is on another level—luxuriously rich, silky, and cooked to absolute perfection, delivering that melt-in-your-mouth magic all over again. Even the chicken options are standout—juicy, flavorful, and handled with the same care and precision as the fish. Whether you’re not into seafood, easing into it, or just want the best of both worlds, you’re completely covered here. Perfectly seasoned rice, pristine ingredients, and that quiet confidence only truly great restaurants have. Nothing flashy for the sake of it—just elite quality across the board. This is the kind of meal you think about later that night… and then start planning your next visit. If you love sushi—or just incredible food in general—this isn’t just a recommendation. It’s a must.
First time visiting. Ordered from restaurant week menu. Attentive service. Flavors were spot on. I didn’t order sushi though so can’t speak to those items but the food I did order I have nothing bad to say. My friend ordered options with seafood and had no complaints.
Decided to give it a try and it was well worth it. I got the shrimp cocktail and the orange chicken. Typically the orange chicken is made with breaded chicken but I asked and they made it with grilled instead. So kudos for the extra effort!! The orange chicken was great and has a little spice. Not bad at all but if you are kinda weak you might skip..lol. The place is great and the service was perfect. Very attentive and spot on. Make this a regular dinner and you won’t go wrong.
Great restaurant week deal with yummy options. The meal was light and the matcha tiramisu was the perfect way to finish it off, I crave it soooo often now, it was such a good dessert.
Our apps and sushi were amazing!!!! Miso fish way over done though :( scallops were good but again over done. It was a busy restaraunt week menu so maybe that was the issue. Nevertheless we will go back for sure. Fun date night!
Great food and service. One of the best in San Diego for sushi and Asian fusion dishes. Prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. Excellent drinks as well.
Great staff and I enjoyed the happy hour and the food as well. It may have been a bit cramped but it is called the glass box. I shall return to try other establishments. The building itself seems like it has so much to offer.
This place is amazing! Definitely grab a seat at the bar. the service is always great. My husband and I love customizing our rolls, and the chefs nail it every time. Our go-to spot for sure.
Fresh, yummy food and friendly service. Highly recommend this place. You will never get disappointed. They also have oysters. Ask for their happy hour too.
We are here for their happy hours on Friday afternoon which is between 2-6pm. Oyster $1/piece Chicken skewers Pork belly skewers Draft beer And 3 course lunch. Highly recommended (for happy hours)
This place was incredible! The food was all excellent and the service was exceptional. I loved the location, the vibe and the layout. We had a variety of staples such as Orange Chicken, Noodles, Egg Rolls, and sushi. All of it was high quality, expertly prepared, and plated well.

This place is a stunning and upscale sushi restaurant that truly lives up to its name, super sleek, modern, and encased in glass. It’s perfect for a night out with friends, a date, or anyone who appreciates high-quality sushi in a beautiful setting. We didnt make their happy hour but i did see that they have daily Happy Hour (2–6pm) that includes a variety of small bites, hand rolls, cut rolls, and cocktails available at great prices. Everything we tried was fresh and flavorful, especially the sashimi and nigiri. We really enjoyed the: -Hanabi Crispy Rice -Salmon Flight -Matchatini -Pork belly skewer -Yellowtail Belly Nigiri -Salmon Belly Nigiri Looove their nigiri mmm! The service was great, and the ambiance made the whole experience even better. If you're a sushi lover (or just love good food and cocktails), Glass Box should be on your list!
i just visited glass box authentic japanese food fresh and very delicious and big portions of salmon atmospheres very nice well decorated inside the food hall service was excellent i really enjoyed and recommended
The chef has a unique and creative fusion approach. There is also a wide spectrum of flavor profiles here. You can find dishes you’ve never tried before here. The dining area is great for all occasions - anywhere from casual to semi formal hangouts. The team here also makes it a point to procure the freshest ingredients. I highly recommend giving it a try! I do want to note that this is not a quick in and out spot, so block off enough time to enjoy your experience here.
We came here for this year’s restaurant week. They are 3 or 4 courses options for restaurant week. I had a 3 courses for $50 and my husband ordered a 4 courses option for $65. Both of them are so worthy. The first course we chose the same - nigiri sampler. They are 6 nigiri and all of them are fresh and delicious. The second course I ordered the salad and my husband had the mushroom soup, which are both delicious. The third course for my husband is pork belly bites, which is really amazing! The last course I had the branzino fish and my husband had the short rib, I have to say both are soooooo good. And the desserts make the meal totally perfect. You have to come to try here’s food out. I feel they make super nice Asian food fusion to combine Japanese&Asian food together with western cuisine influences.
We celebrated my birthday at Glass Box and had such a great experience. The atmosphere is really cool with the glass enclosed sushi bar in the center, which gives the restaurant a unique vibe inside the Sky Deck at Del Mar Highlands. We ordered the salmon lemon roll, Kobe beef roll, grilled galbi, tenderloin steak fried rice, and poki nachos and everything was fresh and full of flavor. One of the highlights was the sashimi platter with beautiful cuts of fish and a smoky dry ice presentation that made it feel extra special. Definitely a fun spot for date night or a celebration. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Happy hour menu Monday-Sunday 2pm-6pm! 1 dollar oysters (min order of 6), but great price! All the food was delicious, great atmosphere with other food options. Reminds me of an upscale food hall so good. Also lots of stores in the same area where you can walk and get desert and do a little shopping.
I ordered the Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna from the Restaurant Week lunch menu and was very impressed. The crispy rice had a great crunch on the outside while remaining light inside, providing an excellent base for the spicy tuna. The tuna was fresh, well-seasoned, and balanced nicely with the avocado, adding a smooth contrast to the texture. The flavors were well balanced—not overly spicy—and the dish felt thoughtfully composed rather than heavy. It was a strong starter and a great representation of the quality and attention to detail in the Restaurant Week menu. I would definitely recommend this dish and would order it again.I ordered the Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna from the Restaurant Week lunch menu and was very impressed. amazing service from start to finish! we were a larger party of 6 and got sat within 5 minutes on a friday night. Our server was SOOOO kind and sweet, I wish I could remember her name but she had a chin length haircut and a gorgeous smile. She was extremely attentive and kept all of us very well fed and drank! She made lots of efforts to check in with my golden age father who doesn't usually do asian cuisine and he was raving about his food and her service the whole car ride home. we got so many sushi rolls, so many nigiri, short ribs, beef bulgogi, orange chicken, oysters, shrimp and tuna tartare. 20 out of 10 recommend. cannot stress how amazing service was!!

First Sushi I had after returning from Japan, so my standards were raised and glass box delivered. I was more than happy with the yellowtail carpaccio and the sashimi lunch plate was fantastic. Good prices for lunch and the area. I would come back if I was in Del Mar and I wanted to treat someone to an elevated spot.
Overall nice place. Service was five ⭐ Food was great. Vegetarian tempura, egg roll and drunken noodles are some items you can ask for if you are vegiterian. Great selection of drinks as well.
We didn’t realize Happy Hour ran from 2–6 PM, so when we arrived at 5 PM for an early dinner, we were pleasantly surprised to find $1 oysters and discounted rolls on the menu. Service was attentive, and the sushi and sashimi were fresh and flavorful. The poke nacho sauce was too sweet for my taste though. The only odd part was our seating. The restaurant is fully enclosed in glass, and our table was pushed right up against it—with another table directly on the opposite side. It almost felt like we were dining with the other party, separated only by a thin sheet of glass, which was somewhat amusing more than bothersome.

This is a restaurant week review for lunch. I had the soup and sushi mixed plate. The soup was miso with some veggies - I appreciated that it was not overly salted. The sushi platter didn’t taste amazing, maybe the rice was a little dry. I was a little disappointed in the fish flavor. I love the vibe so may go back and try something else next time.
Service was terrible on a Wednesday late afternoon! My server did not really come around and ask if we needed anything, I always had to try and grab there attention whenever I saw them walk by. Not many people at the restaurant that day other than 3 tables being used by parties of 2! The best thing I had ordered were probably the poke tacos. The rest of the food was ok.

Service here was terrible. We had a reservation for restaurant week and were so excited. They took a little bit to seat us which is fine, but waitress says she’ll grab waters for us but it doesn’t show up until 10 minutes later but doesn’t take our order and leaves immediately. She comes to our area two more times, I even made eye contact with her, but after 20 minutes we still didn’t even get the chance to order. Just got up and left.
