Finally found a decent lemon drop in San Diego! I know it’s an easy drink to make but other places in SD have let me down when it came to making a legit lemon drop. Polite Provisions is a must go to spot. I stayed down the street with some friends and noticed how popular this spot is, especially on the weekends. We came in on a Thursday around 4:30pm and we practically had the place to ourselves. The bartender was polite and knew what he was doing behind the bar. The architecture and decor inside is pleasant and attention grabbing. Grab a friend or two and check this place out, you won’t be disappointed. Their happy hour menu is really good too! I recommend the ocean side cocktail; it has an aromatic and fresh taste to it because of mint and celery bitters. Update years later: Still one of my favorite bars around! Came here for my birthday on a Tuesday evening and had a very chill time. The bartenders are compliant with ABC standards and ID’ing EVERYONE. My first drink, Is It a Crime, was basically a bougie Paloma. I couldn’t taste the alcohol at all. I then went for some Lemon Drops to change that up and I enjoyed every sip of it. I also love the ambience, the lighting is just right , dim lights, burning candles at every table, creating an enjoyable experience for any occasion.

Update-2025 drink menu changed & now you can order food at polite provisions from fortunate sons which is awesome. Good vibe and spot to hang out with friends. ID at door when you first come in. Order at bar when they first open for the night. an only drinks no food, but you can order next door and bring your food over. Decked out for christmas.

Overall rating: 4.8 Super cute spot I was taken to on a date. The decor is beautiful and the booths are really comfortable! There weren’t that many people but I did go on a Thursday. The drinks were delicious and they also serve off menu if you just tell them what you like. If I wasn’t an out of towner I’d definitely go back. It’s great for friends, dates, by yourself. Very rare! Highly recommend.

The bartenders are true artisans, crafting cocktails with precision and creativity. Whether you go for a classic Old Fashioned or something more adventurous from their seasonal menu, you can expect perfectly balanced flavors and top-quality ingredients. One of my personal favorites is the Golden Rule, which is smooth, refreshing, and expertly mixed. The service is also exceptional—friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to recommend something based on your preferences. The atmosphere is lively without being overwhelming, making it a great spot for a casual night out or a special occasion. If you’re a cocktail enthusiast or just looking for a great place to unwind with an amazing drink, Polite Provisions is a must-visit. I can’t wait to come back!

I love the ambiance, fun vibe but cozy with unique style. The drinks are sooo delicious, strong and decently priced. I really enjoyed sitting and relaxing with my hubby. The staff was friendly, they will ask your ID first and then just find your Definitely recommend!!!

Great vibes. Such a beautiful place. Tried the Princess Peach Daiquiri and the Painless Killer. Both delicious and beautifully presented. Great bar and lighting and seating. Very ambient. A cute date spot. Drinks are kind of pricy but not unexpected.

I was told about this place years ago but didn't have a chance to go until today and was very impressed. This is a great mixology bar with quite an extensive menu of cocktails. Everything we got was delicious, the bartenders were surprisingly quick considering the complexity of the drinks, and the atmosphere was great so I highly recommend!

Polite Provisions exudes a cool atmosphere while specializing in craft cocktails. The cocktails were delicious but we were a bit disappointed with the service we received - they could have made the experience much more enjoyable with a little bit of friendliness. We noticed others experiencing the same at tables around us. Overall we enjoyed ourselves but I can’t give five stars because of service. TIP: There is no parking lot so be prepared to search for street parking in the surrounding neighborhood or, if you plan to drink a lot, take a ride share.

At this location right now. Out with a group of people. Waited at the bar and ordered a beer. Keg was out on what I wanted. Bartender went to see if they there was another keg to replace it. There was but was blocked and the bartender couldn't move whatever to get to the keg. So am not able to drink with my friends. Disappointing will never come back.

We arrived around opening today and were met with unprofessional and rude behavior from two staff members. It was uncomfortable enough that we did not even stay to place an order. Our group left and chose another nearby establishment instead. I live in the neighborhood, and there are many comparable places that offer a similar ambiance while treating patrons with basic courtesy. The situation was awkward enough that other guests/patrons were joking about everyone being “on the naughty list.” I generally prefer to leave positive reviews, I work in Customer Service leadership and have seen it all, but this experience was poor enough that I felt compelled to share it. Treating customers with basic decency should be a minimal expectation.
