The craft cocktails are amazing. Unique presentations and they taste great. Went for HH (pretty cool that they still honor it on weekends) and got some of their bites which were small in size but yummy. We got the salmon sliders (lox type salmon) and bread with dip, both nice bites to have with our drinks. As for the drinks, the martini comes out in a bathtub, and the tom kha inspired drink came out in the fun takeout glass shown in the picture.
5 I really like this bistro/bar! Their cocktails are very solid and if you come here during the holidays, they have holiday drinks (excellent ones too). We drank basically the entire holiday menu and there were no bad drinks (high praise from me). Causwells holiday drinks def >> PCH’s, not even close. The vibe is chic, wooden bistro - good for dates or friends. I think the inside can be a little crowded during peak hours. Food wise, both the burger and schnitzel were good. Outdoor seating is heated and nice too. Highly recommend
I always thought Causwells was just for burger fanatics, but I was wrong! Definitely recommend trying it out even if you don’t eat red meat, like me. Their crispy chicken sandwich is excellent. The bun has the perfect texture, the aioli is light and garlicky, and if you’re into a little spice, I highly recommend adding pickled jalapeños to make this sandwich next-level. I've also noticed they recently upgraded the side salad that comes with their sandos. The new dressing is much better imo—lighter and lemony compared to the previous sweet/Dijon-forward version. If crispy chicken sandwiches aren't your thing, their seafood is also great. I've had two different fish dishes here, and both were delish. Highly recommended. P.S. if you live in the marina, the burger/sandwiches travel really well for takeout or delivery!
My husband and I came into the city for date night and settled on dining at Causwells. They are definitely our new favorite spot! All of the staff are friendly, we were shown to our seats with menus set. Our sever was extremely kind and attentive. We ordered poke to share, as well as the 100 layer potatoes and brussel sprouts. We also had the crispy chicken sandwich and the cavatelli ( everything was absolutely delicious). Our only real regret about dinner was not ordering dessert! we’ll definitely be coming here again.
Sat at the bar in a party of 3 directly across from the kitchen. We could have easily been overlooked in the flurry of orders and needs of other guests but the staff checked in on us countless times throughout our meal. I lost track but I think it was something like 7 unique people asked us if we had everything we needed during our meal. Service was fantastic by my standards. The food was great as well! I don’t know if the “breakfast” jambalaya is the right name for the jambalaya with a fried egg on top, but it was very well seasoned (mild heat), and their superb in house hot sauce lets you dial in how spicy you want it! Atmosphere was lively but not annoying or uncomfortable even at the busy part of the bar. Great place to eat and all the staff were top-notch. Will be back to try the new seasonal specials later in the month!
“Why is the burger $19.99 on the menu, instead of $20?” is the first thing we asked our waiter. “Because the chef absolutely refused to sell a $20 burger” was his reply 😂😂 Given that some burgers in the city are now over $30 (we’re looking at you, Nopa 👀), we appreciated the cheeky way to try and keep prices affordable. All the same, the burger was worth every cent we paid! The flavors were balanced, meat high quality, and service timely. The real highlight was the side of crispy onion strings. Wow! They were unlike any other battered onion I’ve had before; incredibly light and crispy and not at all overpowering on the onion flavor (you can still kiss your cutie after eating these!). They were served in a massive HEAP with more than enough to share with another. The restaurant was very sophisticated with a modern art-deco atmosphere (peep the cool peacocks in the wallpaper!). Would be a cute place to grab a drink, or to sit outside on a warm night while all the shoppers walk around Chestnut Street. Will be coming by here again soon!
Little pre-Super Bowl Saturday brunch at Causwells. First timer, here myself. My friends would always tell me the burger at Coswell's, you gotta have it, you gotta try it, it's a great spot. Classic American fare, great atmosphere right on Chestnut, hell of a location. Got the deviled eggs. Were a little mid, but overall the burger, that brunch burger specifically, absolutely hit the spot. Will be returning. Would recommend it for travelers and locals alike. Excellent.
A small restaurant in San Francisco's Marina district next to the Presidio Theater. Reminds me of a smaller neighborhood Marlowe, with a long beer and wine list. We came for lunch, which has a compact menu. After many years, we returned and found the sandwiches much better. Service was fairly slow during lunch, with 2 servers running around. Food Picks: Deviled Eggs $6.75 Classic, Avocado, Smoked Trout - Good but not as good as Marlowe. Kale Salad ($12.75) strawberry, orange, pistachio, feta, balsamic vinaigrette was a fruity healthy salad, before all the greasy burgers. PULL APART BREAD ($13) red pepper & eggplant and herb & garlic dips arrive with the entrees. Egg free bread that was still warm. 8.5/10 BRAISED SHORT RIBS ($32) celeriac puree, mcginnis ranch heirloom carrot, shoestring potato are 2 large chunks of tender beef. Good flavors with the sauce. Not a lot but satisfying. 8.5/10 Americana burger ($22), cheese, Causwells sauce, lettuce, pickle, onion with mixed green salad. Top notch. Two thin greasy patties, lots of onions. Big enough for 2 people. Kids burger available. In 2019 we got it with fries which were pretty standard (+$2) Crispy onions are a huge pile. Grilled Chicken Sandwich ($13) arugula, pickled onion, avocado, provolone, aioli is a healthier choice. Still pretty hearty. Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($13.50) kale pesto, roasted garlic aioli, onion, charred lemon was done really well. Crunchy and not dry in the middle. Some like it better than the burger. OK: Smoked Pork Grilled Cheese Sandwich, onion, pickled jalapeno, swiss cheese, mustard $12.75 - OK but not special. Overall - Very Good Food - Very Good Decor - Good Service - Good Value - Good Would we come back - Yes
Stopped here for a burger. As many others, I saw this place on social media and had to give it a try. The double cheeseburger I ordered was very tasty, along with the side of fries. Paying over thirty bucks for a burger and fries makes me hate living in sf tho, it should be illegal to charge that much.
Nice little place. We were looking for a good burger to eat. They are good but nothing special. The deviled eggs are very bland. Ended up not eating them all. Mixed drinks were fantastic. Would definitely suggest stopping for a cocktail. Nice looking place and service was OK. Didn't really come around much. If in area looking for a cocktail good place. Food is basic as far as hamburgers.
We had a reservation for Sunday brunch, were told to be out after 2 hours. We were a group of 8. They serve brunch, but no cappuccino or beverages made with an espresso machine - you need to go across the street for that. They only serve drip coffee. The waiter was rude and felt like he was rushing us a lot even though they were not even that busy. The food was average and I quote my friend “Looks like something I could have cooked myself at home”. Quite a disappointing experience and don’t think I’ll be back for breakfast anytime soon.
Vibes are great here! Food was okay. We were really excited for the burger and heard a lot of great things but It was just alright. Woods Cole Valley is definitely a better burger. We also tried the Caesar salad and it was good. We also tried the espresso martini but it was not for us. It was way too sweet that we actually didn’t even finish it. It might be your thing if you’re into sweet drinks, and it’s just not for us!
A burger place with not so good burgers, I guess the chicken one was fine, but the $35 Fancy pants had pork confit with unbelievably strong boar taint that I just can’t☠️☠️☠️, and the side salad was probably marinated in vinegar 😵😵😵, 1st time ever that I barely touched my salad as someone that loves veggies, good bread and soup though
never seen such a stark contrast in food quality as here. the drinks and now famous burgers were pretty good but everything else was straight up bad. service was also odd and awkward. patio seating was fine. overall, would come back for burgers and drinks only (4 stars for those) but the price and flavor left a bad taste in my mouth for the other items (1 star). baklava old fashioned: really enjoyed and loved the ceramics. would get again. 100 layer: decent but could be salted more americana burger: excellent smash burger — patties flavorful with right ratio of bread to meat. veggies good touch fish and chips: didn’t eat this but came out SOGGY and felt like it came from the microwave.
My experience here didn’t meet my expectations. The service at the bar was poor, and they only had a limited happy hour menu. The frozen cocktail I ordered tasted like a flavored smoothie. The Peruvian ceviche was very bland. They even brought me the wrong bill. The place looks nice, but they need to improve to offer a complete experience. Because of this, I decided not to order more and left. I hope to return soon and have a better experience.
Waiters and staff were super nice and quick with service. I am glad they spoke Spanish so I felt comfortable talking to them. Drinks were beautiful and tasted good, not too strong but perfect for dinner. Food was a letdown in presentation and taste, especially for the price. Mac and cheese should be cheese-color (white or yellow) and not brown. Lardons were cooked to death, basically dry chicharrón. Brussels sprouts are not expensive produce so I don't know why the amount was so skimpy. Pretty street seating and service made everything better.
I was really disappointed with my experience here. I ordered the seasonal cocktail expecting something light and refreshing for summer, but it turned out to be very heavy — not what I had in mind at all. On top of that, the customer service was poor; they brought us the receipt before we even asked for it, while we were still working on our drinks. The burger also had an off smell to me, which made it unappetizing. Overall, it was not a good visit and I won’t be coming back.
The servers and hosts are very nice. Found a hair or black string in my fries. They just made me a new order but it was so off putting I asked for it to go. They just carried on like it was nothing. The owners should have protocols to accommodate if things like this happens. Not the servers or employees fault. It is clear there is stress on profit rather than customer satisfaction. They ended up giving me less fries than I got eating in which is disappointing since they charge you extra for fries at a burger restaurant. It honestly just looks like they gave me a new burger with the same fries.
