I recently visited The Little Skillet in San Francisco with my mom and sweetheart, and it was an exceptional experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. The food was nothing short of fantastic—crispy fried chicken, perfectly seasoned grits, melt-in-your-mouth cornbread, and indulgent chicken and waffles that hit every note. My sweetheart’s shrimp and grits and my mom’s catfish were equally delicious, showcasing the restaurant’s mastery of Southern comfort food. The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall welcoming vibe. Whether you’re with family or on a date, The Little Skillet is the perfect spot for soul-satisfying meals and an unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommend!
Happen to come across this joint on my way to the Giants game. If you're looking for a soul food with character, great music, and downright delicious eats, Little Skillet is a must-visit. Tucked away near Oracle Park, this hidden gem serves up Southern classics that hit all the right notes. The biscuits? Buttery and flakey perfection served with honey butter. The blackened shrimp with grits was flavorful, and balanced. The fried shrimp with mashed potatoes? A combo that's both indulgent and deeply satisfying. And the fried chicken? Crispy, juicy, and everything you'd hope for from a true Southern kitchen. Little Skillet delivers big on taste, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this hole-in-the-wall is worth seeking out. Highly recommend!
Great food and all the members of staff are being very nice and kind. Travelling from London this is one of the most heavenly tastes I have ever had in probably one year. I really love how the breakfasts/brunch are always provided with mini hash browns there good taste and so cute. Plus this huge bowl full of bbq pork&brown hashes costs less than $20 and is just a miracle
This spot was pretty tasty! We went on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn’t too crowded at all which was nice. At first there were instructions to order with the QR code but out of nowhere a woman who worked there came up and told us we could order using the QR code or she could take our order if we wanted. We gave her our order and as she walked away, I told my mom just for that she was getting a good tip. I ordered the fried shrimp with a side of fries and waffle. Everything came out nice and hot! I thought it was just going to be a two waffle pieces but it was the whole Belgian ! I definitely couldn’t finish all of it at once but the portion size was nice for leftovers. My mom got the catfish po’boy and it was bomb too! Will definitely come back :)
Beautiful space in SF with great vibes and FANTASTIC chicken. I had the works with a side of biscuits and with a cranberry soda. My friend had a bowl of grits with shrimp and we were both in love with the flavors and service here. Genuinely you won’t find tastier, crispier, well seasoned chicken with soft but flaky waffles and biscuits. The shrimp was delicious and well worth the wait. We had a small issue with one of our orders but the staff were QUICK to help us out and were very kind. Genuinely you are missing out if you do not visit Little Skillet!!!!!
Had never been but stopped in before a Giants game and this place is legit. Great atmosphere, fully stocked bar with lots of choices, and I can't forget about their Fried Chicken and waffles! Chicken was juicy, moist and delicious, Waffle was fluffy and crisp around the edges. Not pictures was the small bite size cornbread, just wish it was bigger or there was more as it was delicious!
We popped in for brunch this morning shortly after they opened. We ordered food for takeout before but today was our first time dining inside. It's a cute place with a big bar and a lot of space. The food was good and the staff was friendly and attentive. We were pleasantly surprised by how inexpensive the mimosas were. Looks like we found another go to spot. We will definitely be back.
Visiting San Francisco for a mini getaway and the hotel recommended this place. The vibe was nice upon entering, so that was good. Tribe called quest playing, sports on the screen, etc. I had the fried catfish, fried shrimp, greens and Mac and cheese. The greens were on point, macaroni flavorful, fish and shrimp well seasoned! Hubby had the chicken and waffles. He seemed to enjoy it as well. Clarissa (spelling) was amazing and welcomed us into her city! We had two drinks 🍹 . Overall, we would recommend and we would go back!
Went here for my birthday dinner, there were no black people working there, strange for a black owned establishment. The chicken was good but the greens were horrible! My kids are the pulled pork n mac n cheese they said it was okay but they have had better… I was hoping for an amazing experience and great good but I got way less….
I was looking for a good soul food restaurant in San Francisco, but this wasn’t it. Their restaurant is super cute, however the food was lack luster. The fried chicken was fried well, but lacked seasoning and flavor. The mac and cheese had breadcrumbs on top and that should have been a sign. My boyfriend had shrimp and grits and that was very disappointing. The grits had no flavor and they just put canned tomatoes on top instead of making a sauce or a rue. It wasn’t busy in the restaurant, however the service was very slow. We ordered our food using Toast, but the waiter came over to tell us that he had a big party on the other side and we may not see him for awhile. I watched my overly sweetened sweet tea sit on the counter for awhile and just when I was about to go pick it up, another waiter brought it over. Nobody really came over to check on us. I had to ask several times for a to-go box and a bag. I won’t be returning.
Don't be fooled by the good picture I took! I came to Little Skillet with high hopes. A spot serving Black American comfort food? Count me in. After years of avoiding fried chicken here in the States, I thought this might finally be the place to break that streak. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The fried chicken was a major letdown—bland, under-seasoned, and tasting mostly of old oil. Not the soulful, flavorful bite I was expecting. I also tried the collard greens for the first time, but they didn’t win me over either; aside from an overcooked jalapeño thrown in, they lacked depth and character. The grits didn’t help matters, plain, with an odd hard crust in the middle that made for an unpleasant surprise. Service was another disappointment: it took long just to place an order, and the wait for the food felt like a 5 business days wait. Considering the high prices, the whole experience simply wasn’t worth it. For real soul food, I’ll hold out until my next trip back to New Orleans.
Came here with a friend before going to watch Lady Gaga. First off this is not a good place to bring a first date. Music way to loud, can't hear. My friends waffle was undercooked, though they did replace it, but didn't offer us anything. Fryer oil needs to be changed. Fried chicken was good, but too dark, and tasted burnt. Their mac and cheese tasted like it was reheated in a microwave and had a weird taste. The little biscuits were cold and dry. My fried paid with a credit card and the waiter forgot to return the card, but brought it after. I don't recommend this place.
I had high hopes walking into this restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience left me wondering what exactly people are raving about. The chicken was completely unseasoned bland to the point of being forgettable. The syrup had an odd, almost artificial flavor that didn’t pair well with anything on the plate. The cornbread? Tiny and dry, with a taste that was outright unpleasant. I’ve had better from a box mix, and that’s saying something. Speaking of boxed foods, the waffles didn’t even resemble waffles in taste or texture. Honestly, I’d prefer some frozen Eggo waffles over whatever that was. The macaroni and cheese, usually a soul food staple, was the final straw. I was tempted to say it tasted like KFC’s, but that would’ve been an insult to KFC. The prices are outrageous for what you get, and the overall vibe just didn’t feel authentic. There wasn’t a single soul food flavor in sight, and surprisingly, the only Black person I saw during the visit was the bartender. It felt less like a soul food experience and more like a poorly executed imitation. And not to mention, they played no authentic black music, very odd for a soul food place. And with the lack of black people, the watermelon felt… racist? Odd? Save your money and try another spot. This place is all hype and no heart.
"I drove over an hour from the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge to Little Skillet, following their guidance to Victory Hall & Parlor. After being seated, no one came to check on me or ask how the food was; I waited over 10 minutes and had to seek out a waitress just to place my order. When the food arrived, the chicken was fantastic, but the waffles and mac and cheese were cold. No one followed up, and I had to track down another waitress just to get a to-go bag and the bill. It was a thoroughly disappointing experience."
I ordered delivery and spent $76.22. I ordered a 2 piece and a 3 piece chicken and waffles. Unfortunately, Little Skillet forgot to include syrup, butter & forks with our order! I am disappointed and furious that the restaurant would make such a careless mistake! This was not acceptable and I absolutely do not recommend this place!
Just bad service. Inattentive staff. I was in rush to eat so told the bartender for the bill as I got the food. Store was totally empty. Instead of giving me the bill, she kept chatting around with other staff. I finished eating and waited for the bill , she was still chatting. So I just left the money on the counter and left.
A horrible strong smell of bad fish when we walked in the door should have been enough reason…. But the place was so cute the deco and “vibe” were amazing…. Duped definitely duped. All three in my party ordered the works. One with Mac n cheese, one with grits and the other french fries. Mac and cheese was spoiled grits were sour and the waffle batter was right along those lines of definitely going to make someone sick! Brought to the attention of the server/manager who did not even remove the dishes from in front of us but proceeded to ask if we wanted to try something else or have our items remade. We politely declined he left to inform the kitchen and came back with more food anyways…. That was still spoiled!!!! Everything was left on the table he could have cared less we didn’t eat and we’re still handed the check for $82. My friends who were buying lunch are a big blessing for this place cuz they actually paid the bill before we got up and walked out….. beware!!! Quite a few good reviews but not any too recently please don’t eat here!
If you're in the mood for chicken and waffles, try another place. My meal was inedible, which was too bad because I liked the vibe in the seating area. When my lunch arrived, I was disappointed to see powdered sugar sprinkled liberally on my waffles and receive cheap plastic utensils. I tried eating the waffles but they were cold and tasteless. When the guy brought my beverage, I told him the meal wasn't quite what I was expecting with the cheap plastic utensils and waffle. He said the waffle didn't look quite right and offered to bring me another cooked better and without the powdered sugar. I appreciate him wanting to please me but the second waffle was equally bland. The guy also brought me butter, as requested, but on another cold waffle didn't do much good to add moisture. The chicken, while moist, was tasteless. Thank god for the packet of hot sauce. The guy had praised the macaroni and cheese when I asked about it when I placed my order. (An honest staffer would have told me to stay with my original side selection or steered me to another dish.) The macaroni was cooked al dente, which is fine for an Italian pasta dish but not for macaroni and cheese. I couldn't stomach more than two bites for it also didn't taste like the macaroni and cheese I expected. It's sad to spend $30+ on lunch and leave it behind on the table.
