Muracci's is a popular spot for Japanese curry, especially the katsu curry. Customers rave about the crispy katsu and flavorful curry, with customizable spice levels. It's a small, takeout-only place, so plan accordingly.

Tip: Be mindful of the spice levels, as the 'hot' curry can be quite spicy. Also, note that there is no indoor seating, so it's best for takeout.

Popular local lunch spot for office workers (and for a good reason!). They transitioned to take-out only after the pandemic, my favorite is beef hash curry or mama’s curry if you want it with carrots and potatoes. Pro tip: you can ask for 1/2 brown rice and 1/2 white rice if you can’t decide like me
Curry has a deep flavor that goes well with whatever protein you order. I like my curries spicy and the hot level is at the perfect spot. Takeout from the window only
Best Japanese Curry I've had in the city! First had it in 2017 and it never disappoints as years past. Perfect portion and authentic Japanese curry sauce, generous with veggies, pickled radish and cabbage. The only thing is that they're only for takeouts, hopefully they will reopen dine in/outdoor seats sometime soon.
Absolutely delicious curry and huge portions! I love their Ebi Fry Curry. The pickles are really good and I always get extra because there just isn't enough included with the meal! Definitely recommend the croquette if you have the appetite for it - but it has to be eaten fresh!
A reasonable deal for Japanese curry at the heart of financial district. Even though the food is taken out, the crispiness of the katsu is still there after 30 minutes or so. The curry tastes good. I am more amazed at gyu-don though. The quality of beef is great and the sweet, but not overly sweet, flavor is there. A good choice of weekday lunch.
Delicious chicken Katsu. There isn't anywhere to sit down, everything is takeout. Service is quick, and very great lunch grab.
I loved Muracci’s!!!!! We heard about this while watching a YouTube video on what to do while visiting San Fran and I’m so happy we were recommended this. We ordered a chicken Katsu Curry and a classic Katsu Curry - total cost was $32 (including tip). The sauce comes on the side and you can pour it over and can decide how much you want! I had mild and my partner had medium, I didn’t think the medium was much spicier than the mild. This is a great hole in the wall place, but there isn’t much seating so plan to take yours away or be prepared to wait for a seat!
I always go here whenever I come to sf. The curry is perfect here, and their katsu is so crispy and delicious. The spiciness of curry is perfect. I always get mild and it hits the spot. The pickled radishes and cabbages they give you are the perfect things for the dish. You should also try the curry bread too
If you like Japanese curry, you'll love Muracci's. They have a house recipe that's sure to bring you to a special place. For those who like spicy food, you can get your curry in three varying levels: mild, medium and hot. Hot has 10 degrees (1 thru 10) of spice as well, so choose wisely!
Quite delicious curry and katsu! Ordering takeout at the window is easy, and the portions are large and price is reasonable. The katsu was crispy and not dry, and the curry was flavourful with medium spice being a good level
[Take out only] Muracci’s curry is legendary! Oddly enough, this my first time eating their katsu curry! Fried katsu (pork) cooked upon order with choice of white or brown rice. The main comes with accompanying cabbage which is pickled (yum) and there is the traditional red pickles too. The katsu is the key point though, right? Crispy, with the finest panko type coating. Delicious! The pork is flavorful and quite a thick cutlet. Satisfying the most voracious appetite, this dish really hits the spot! This shop is the only one in the city. Their other outpost is a sit down restaurant in Berkeley. I say go here and get curry anything. In fact, with a good sauce like this I’d happily eat rice & curry sauce alone. A plus: Muracci’s lets you choose the level of hotness of the curry sauce. I like that!
Delicious katsu curry! The hot is actually pretty spicy for Japanese curry too. The guy taking orders was super friendly even while being busy. It’s small with just a few tables outside so have a backup place in mind to take your food just in case.
Ever since I had Japanese curry in Kyoto I've been on a quest to find the best Japanese curry stateside. This is top 3. Actually top 2 because as I'm writing this I can't think of a third one that's memorable. The Karaage Curry is the BEST. Of course the Katsu Pork is solid (and it's THICC). The Katsu Salmon one is also pretty good, but it was cooked a little too much/high temp. But I fish is hard and it was still better than many katsu pork cutlets I've had. Anyway. Give it a chance. Or two in my case. P.S. the krokke/croquettes 🤌🏽 **Update 2 years later** Still 🔥 That is all.
Fantastic Japanese curry. This small "hole in the wall" type restaurant is quite tasty. I took my father visiting from out of town, who lived in Japan for 2 years and he loved it. We had the chicken and beef curry, but the kastsu looked even more delicious if you like your chicken or pork fried. Worth it.
The chicken Kaarage is really worth for the price, amount of food and flavour of the food + the sauces. Got the pork katsu but spicy and I think that’s why I didn’t like it. Will definitely come back to try it but mild instead. Feel that the katsu is slightly overpriced but not terrible. Also the bag is 25 cents which we didn’t need as we went down the street to eat at the bubble tea shop.
Veggie udon was a delicious and hearty way to warm me up on this cold winter day. Noodles had perfect al dente resistance, vegetarian curry was mildly spicy (as ordered), had a lightly creamy texture (starchy, not dairy) and the tofu was fresh and silky instead of fried (my preference). I only needed half the curry on the noodles so will save rest for home use. Notes: Takeout only but open til 7pm Yellow curry will stain so use your napkins strategically! To the Veggie Freaks like me: I would like if there were more veggies but that’s how I feel about most dishes like this anywhere. If I take home, I typically supplement with my own veggies.
Great curry place downtown. Big portions and really tasty. The chicken katsu is delicious. No indoor seating, so be prepared to get your food to go.
I love this place. The battering here is amazing. Chicken, pork, or shrimp are all fantastic choices. Have also had their beef option and the croquettes as well. The owners are amazing and staff is really friendly. I usually get the curry, extra spicy with cheese. Don't knock it until you try it!!!

Delicious curry and easy to go ordering at the window. Ordered the hot curry which was spicier than I expected, not complaining though I liked it. Pickled veggies were a nice touch as well.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve been here. I was in the FiDi running errands and decided to get my lunch here to go. I got the ebi katsu curry. I figured it’s the same price as the chicken katsu curry, so why not? The person who took my order was super nice. He asked if I wanted brown or white rice. I had that Patrick Star stare when Squidward asks him to place his order, but I snapped out of it when told I can do half/half. I placed my order and went to do my errands. My order was ready within the 15mins I was out. The meal came with 3 huge pieces of friend shrimp, cabbage, pickled daikon, and rice. The portion of rice was perfect for the amount of shrimp. No bite was without rice. The shrimp itself was perfectly fried, super crunchy, and very meaty. The curry was good. I got it mild and it had a slight sweetness. The brown rice was soft. After pouring the curry and mixing the different rices, I couldn’t tell which was brown or white. I think I would get full brown rice next time. After taxes and tip, it came out to around $20. I was ravenous so I ate the entire thing and was perfectly full. But I think I would be able to stretch a chicken or pork katsu curry in two meals, so that’s something to think about. I think if you want traditional Japanese curry in the FiDi, then Muracci’s is the place to go. But definitely order before noon because that lunch rush is no joke. The wait can be very long.
The space has changed owners many times... came here for a quick lunch.
Pretty good takeout hole in a wall spot. Do love how they give you a container of curry, enough to flood your takeout container! Flavorful and a good portions to fill you up. It is on the more pricey side, but expected, it is the city. Definitely recommend ordering ahead.
I got chicken Karaage and ramen with hot curry and fried gyoza. The ramen and curry were great and the curry was nice and spicy and the gyoza were fresh and flavorful but I would have liked them better of they were pan fried on the bottom instead of deep fried. I would try other things here for sure so I would recommend ordering ahead of time.
Katsu curry was good, chicken was tender, curry was flavorful. I got the large karage too for $9 the flavor is good I wish they will fill it up all the way to the top since i paid for the large karage it looks like i got the small portion but in a larger container.
Had the delicious Chicken Katsu curry (medium spicy) and was oh so delicious - perfectly crispy pieces and such a flavorful curry. As of yesterday, the place doesn't offer any dining options either indoors or outdoors, so you may want to figure out a nearby park or seating quickly to consume it while it's hot!
They say it is cheap. Well that is only to SF standards because I don’t find it cheap. Food is really interesting taste wise. Staff is friendly and food prepared to order quite quickly. Location is off tourist places and surrounded by many other cafes. Inside very little place for dining. Good for take away. Has toilet inside and no wifi.
Interesting Curry Style Japanese food. Line at lunch can run out the door and across the corner. When you ask for spicy, it is SPICY not for the faint of heart. Chicken is perfectly fried

I’m a regular but lately, there has been some deterioration in food quality. I usually get the curry pork cutlet. The pork was fried to almost brown (maybe they don’t change the oil that often being so busy). Prices have really gone up so I hope they give customers a break.

The fact that this place always has a line and the really good reviews on google made me thing I would eat the best curry ever. So I was really disappointed. I had the chicken katsu curry. It's just rice, fried chicken and a very simple curry sauce. Sure, fried chicken is always yummy, but it was so not worth the super long wait we had to endure to get our lunch. I wouldn't do it again. It's also on the expensive side for lunch (18$)
I ordered the Katsu Curry with White Rice, Mild Spiciness. The quick and convenient store-front pick-up was a plus, and the generous portion of rice was appreciated. However, the flavor, being on the sweeter side, didn't quite align with my personal preference for a more savory taste.
You order at the window and wait outside for your order to be ready. I know it's a personal preference and restaurants use different recipes, but I was hoping for curry more similar to the ones I ate in Japan. This gravy felt thinner and less flavorful. The amount of tofu and vegetables in the curry was good (only vegetables were carrots and broccoli. I was hoping for onions and potatoes also), but the carrots were really undercooked. Glad I tried it, but I won't be back.
Got a medium spicy katsu curry and was fairly spicy! So if you are unsure, err on the lower side! Food tasted good, nothing super special. Not the worst curry I've had, but also not the best. Fairly liquidly curry, not thick at all. This is also one of those pick-up only locations, so don't expect to be able to sit down and eat. You order and pick up at the window.
The vegetarian curry sauce is good. However asking about if the tofu and vegetable curry has potatoes the clerk said "I don't think so, but you can order them as an add-on." I did that but it seems from other photos potatoes are already included so I paid the extra charge for no reason. Overall it was pretty expensive for curry ($25). I don't like that it's takeout only and you can't really tell that from the photos of the food on the reviews.
Ordered a Katsu Curry for dinner via DoorDash. The curry was subtle and good. However, the katsu was flavorless and unseasoned. I loved the pickled vegetables though! I probably wouldn’t order again.

Curry didn't really taste of anything. Felt like it was made from powders, not proper ingredients. As someone else observed too, carrots were undercooked, and there was no potato.
Takeout only. No place to sit. Spice level: hot - was not very spicy, and it was more of a peppery spice. Flavor is lacking. Won’t be back.
I had a few people tell me how good this place was so I decided to try it one day for lunch. It's a super small place so it's more of a to-go place if you want something quick. I got the chicken katsu curry with brown rice. The curry was really good, but the chicken katsu was so dry and flavorless. It almost relied on the curry for flavor. The brown rice was ok. The small amount of pickled vegetables they are really good though. Overall, the curry is good, but avoid the chicken katsu.
The Katsu meat was dry and the breading not crispy. The pieces were also very thick and hard to eat. Not real Katsu just fried meat being passed off. The curry itself was decent but the rice was overly sticky. You also can’t dine in or even wait inside for orders.
Take your money somewhere else where they run their business honestly. I feel completely cheated by this business. I bought the tempura prawn donburi and it was like 80% breading and 20% prawn. The breading was so thick to the point where the prawn had no flavour at all. If I’m going to pay that much for lunch, I want at least a full prawn in my dish. It looks almost as if they sliced the prawn into many thin strips and fried each one. You don’t scam customers like that. It’s wrong. Very wrong.
I would like to give zero star for this place. I ordered 30 minutes ago online but had to wait in line for pick up. I asked for a bag for this take out but they said I didn’t order the “bag”. I had to say every time I ordered here I was offered a bag when picked up. I was being treated differently today because I saw others pay without a “bag” while I stayed in line but they still were offered a “bag”. And the ladies gave me extremely bad attitude I wouldn’t come here again.
