I came to this location as their other locations in the city have all closed, and this is presumably the original or only place of theirs left as of April 2021. I often had the chicken udon on Mondays (the day it is a discounted special) at their Stonestown location with my late grandmother, who passed the day before I visited and wrote this review today. The cashier working today's service was personable and pleasant to interact with, and was empathetic with my story of frequenting a Tokyo Express location in the past with my grandmother. The chicken udon I usually go for on Mondays from the daily special discount was consistently good as it's always been, whether compared to at Stonestown or the Metreon, or compared to years back. Indoor dining service was offered and they assign a table after ordering, after that they bring the food to your table like the other locations. Update early 2022: After reopening on the first Monday of the new year, some of their prices have gone up a bit. In the months since I've been visiting regularly, I've noticed senior customers come and sit for traditional waiter service where they are given menus and their orders are taken at the table rather than the register, so either of these dining options are available. The staff also recognize me when I try to come on a weekly basis so I'm glad to have been recognized as a regular. My dad and one of my uncles each have a Japanese restaurant they've frequented since the 80s or 90s, and I would be happy for this restaurant to be my example of that.
I really love this place every time I come to SF I try to get some Nave yaki udon it's really good
The staff was very kind, and the food was delicious!

A beautiful little gem 💎. Delicious food and friendly service.
I've been an enthusiastic customer for over thirty years. It was named "Teriyaki House" back in the 1990s. The decades have passed, it has changed name and ownership, but it continues to serve delicious Japanese dishes. Service is exceptional with hostess Liz setting a nice tone with her kindness and attentiveness. By the way, my favorite dish here is the Salmon Teriyaki with Tempura.
I have been a regular patron for a long time. I love coming here for affordable lunches and I always go for the chicken udon noodles or the teriyaki chicken. They do specials and lunch combos which are great. Big portions and great menu selections.
Great food and friendly service. So many yummy items to choose from. I’ve been coming to this place for years and I am always satisfied every time. The owner Paul is really great and Of course Liz is awesome. The location is on 660 Sacramento Street , between Kearny and Montgomery Streets.
I love this spot. I go for lunch every week. The food is so tasty. Very reasonably priced. Great seating. Love the green tea. The staff is so friendly and welcoming.

I like to get the sushi rolls here. They are delicious, decent size, and reasonable price.

Got the mixed tempura plate. The shrimp was on point, the veg, not so much. I don’t like zucchini and the broccoli was too chunky, the yam and potato were pleasant. Will definitely return. Paul and the staff were very gracious. 6/27/25: Got the calamari special today and was underwhelmed, extremely chewy but very crispy though, the taste is bland. I would have liked marinara instead of their sauce.
Tokyo Express, back in the early 2010's, used to be really popular with a line during lunchtime. Some of my old co-workers used to enjoy coming here. Business has sure when downhill since the pandemic. There was only one other table occupied at lunch time on a Wednesday. The staff was really busy however packing up to-go orders. I had their Wednesday special, the tonkatsu $13. The pork fillet was a bit dry and not juicy, tender and properly cooked. The panko had a nice crunch. It did come with an alright tonkatsu sauce. With this dish, it should come with shredded cabbage served with a miso-ginger dressing or Japanese sesame dressing, but it didn't come with it. Since this is not an authentic Japanese restaurant, I didn't knock off stars for that. Service was non-existent as this is an order at the counter style restaurant and no tea or water was served. There was a free cup of miso soup and my food came out in a reasonable amount of time.
Decent food with decent price for the outer FiDi/Chinatown border.

Good place for a quick bite. Selection of sushi is just great. Udon noodle soup is good enough to order it again. Once I've had Salmon Donburi and salmon was over fried.
Very decent spot for lunch time sushi. I'd give it three starts because it's nothing exceptional but exactly what I was expecting for quick meal pal sushi. The line gets kinda long if you're looking to actually go in and place your order so I highly recommend taking your time to order ahead on meal pal or ritual to skip that line. There are some tables and chairs if you want to sit down for your meal but it's pretty central (right by my office) so I typically just walk it back and eat it back at the office. One thing to note that I love and pushed them to 4 stars for me, they offer soup and salad for almost all lunch combos. Key for me :).
UPDATE: I went there for lunch after a doc appointment. Food was still the same and delicious. Great bento box!! Old review: I went there after the dentist. Very good comfort food. Always get the teriyaki chicken bento box (chicken, tempura veggies, white rice, miso soup) and an order of California rolls. Very fast service. They appreciate ur business. The udon bowls are excellent also. If in the area do give this food establishment a try. Great food at an easy on the budget price.

Decent place to grab sushi lunch with coworkers. It is definitely not your omakase style or super elaborate sushi roll place, but the rolls are actually good and the price isn't too expensive either.
This was my first time here. I ordered the tonkatsu curry. The tonkatsu was well made and arrived very quickly. The curry sauce however was not at all as one would expect Japanese curry to be. It was very light in flavor, and resembles a vegetable soup more than curry. I would not order the curry again as it cost an extra $3. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice and had a Japanese feel to it. I would go back to try their other options as well but for now I would suggest not getting the curry.
Decent sushi for the price in downtown. Their daily special has better value compares to the regular menu for sushi roll. Their Tue special is one of my favorite. I usually come after 1pm, when it is not lunch peak, and there is no line, service is fast. One thing set me off today, is the cashier cut one of her nail in front of me while taking my order...

Dropping the stars because the quality is just not fresh. I've had lunch here twice and the rolls are more fishy than fresh. They're not particularly cheap ~$12-15 for lunch and you can find high quality lunch option in the area for those prices.

For $12, I got a special of the day with Caterpillar roll and California roll. And out of all the places I have eaten around here this is one of the worst. The rolls are really small, the shrimp is minimal, the crab in the California roll taste a bit stinky, which suggests it may turned bad. It is a crowded, messy environment. The interior of the place is outdated as well. For the same price I would have eaten much better food elsewhere.
I liked the food until the short Asian waitress told me every time I can't sit where I wanted. She was like if you don't wanna share table you can takeaway. So I guess it's better to go somewhere else
