Ordered tacos with asada, and they were very good. Asada was juicy with the perfect amount of crisp on the edges of each piece. The tortillas are hand made and the time put in shows. Also got a side of beans, which were perfect, not too salty or anything. Overall extremely pleased with my visit and the attentive, friendly staff! 😁
I have had the most difficult week and needed some comfort food. Huevos divorciados is high on my list of comforts. The fact that this place also had Cafe de olla that people rave about in the reviews sealed the deal. The food was extraordinary. Everything fresh and perfectly prepared. My friend's breakfast burrito with eggs and chorizo was delicious (I had to steal a bite). The huevos divorciados were just what I needed, crispy tortillas, the most delicious salsas, perfectly cooked eggs, and delicious rice and beans. And the cafe de olla is everything it's claimed to be, rich, smooth as silk, tantalizingly spiced, and subtly sweetened. I am careful with caffeine because of my blood pressure but I sure wish I could have had a second cup because it's heavenly. I got a empanada de pina to go, and it was somehow both homey and sophisticated. I love all things pineapple and this lived up to it's promise. Fresh, fruity filling, delicate and flaky pastry, and a perfectly restrained dusting of sugar to round out the sweetness. It's just such an incredibly harmonious combo that is both nostalgic and elevated. I will be back soon for tacos de canasta. That's something I couldn't find in restaurants easily when growing up, it's so exciting to see them on menus now, so I have to come try them here. Also worth mentioning that Rita came to say hi and introduce herself, the entire staff is beyond kind, and the whole vibe is a little more like a family BBQ. So many people were there enjoying some talented singers and each other's company. My heart is happy. My tummy is happy. My soul is happy. It was the best possible medicine and I can't wait to return.
The delicious food is the best café de olla.
This is a really good place, they recently renovated the location so now instead of going up to the counter to place your order, you can sit down and they have menus that you can review. It's very spanish-centric, so does require a level of Spanish comprehension when it comes to their menu. I normally get the taco dorados de babecoa and bobecoa coldo. Every time the food is very consistent in quality and taste. I often drive all the way from Alameda County just for this food. This place should be more well known considering how authentic it is.
everything on the menu is so gooood and the cafe de olla is a must every time
Best mexican food I have had in such a long time. Really love the café de olla. Great service with wonderful staff.
This place is beautiful with a great vibe and authentic Jalisco style food. You can't go wrong coming here and getting your grub on. Real authentic Mexican home cooked food like your momma whipped up.
The Best tacos in San Jose! The food is authentic and No other place has cafe de olla and handmade tortillas. The service is excellent too. My family and I drive 20 minutes to eat here and it’s always worth it.
Feels like a home cooked meal made by your grandma.
Came here with a group of 6 and we had a blast! The food is authentic and the portions are huge! The servers were wonderful and the recommendations made to us were worth it! The flan is to die for!! We live 2 hours away but we would come back if we had the chance.
This place is amazing! I take my wife and kids here every weekend. If you want the Mexican style soul food like you have in your own Casita this the place to go. They get super busy just like other places so be patient with them as they are making the food for you to love.
Alright... on Friday I tried their Quesabirrias, and they were great! Then, today (Saturday) I had Menudo and it was pretty good... great taste, but a bit hard for me. Based on my experience this past two days, I'm certain that my next meal is going to be awesome!!
This is the BEST restaurant I have been to in the state of California! The service from all of the employees was OUTSTANDING. I believe we met the owner and he was extremely accommodating and friendly. The food was to die for amazing. I got the tacos dorados de barbacoa which were the best I have ever had. The spicy red sauce was also super delicious. I definitely recommend coming to this place.
To be my first time, I was not so bad there were not many people like 2 people ahead, it was my brother and I because we are fans of the gorditas. And 2 times a year we eat them. Personally I like to test before commenting. The food is seasoned, but when you ask for Barbecue, it made me a bit tough, I tell you it's worth I recommend it.
All about this place is amazing, guest seevice, clean place, clean bathrooms, good prices and amazing food, love their gorditas and cafe de olla, but everything else is also delicious
This place has become my favorite spot to eat delicious Mexican food. Specially since my fam is from the state of Colima and they cook close to Jalisco style food. I’ve raved to family and coworkers about this place. Keep in mind that most if not all the servers only speak Spanish. If my partner were to go the on his own he would have not been able to fully understand the menu and order without assistance. That would be my only critic, but it doesn’t affect the amazing food and services I’ve received.
Food was delicious and everything was hit. If salsa they give us not hot enough please request hotter salsa and they will gladly give one. Coffee was great. Will come back and highly recommend this restaurant.
I love this restaurant. It so so fresh and everything is hand made! It’s not only the tortillas but everything! It so wonderful in so many different ways. The food is excellent and the ambiance is fantastic. If you like Mexican food this is the most delicious in the Bay Area.
Very good authentic Mexican food. I'd recommend the quesabirria plate, it comes with 4 quesabirrias which are not only delicious but too many. The broth that is included is also quite tasty. Don't skimp on the hand made tortillas, they're excellent and well worth it. My only complaint is that their Chavela Is rimmed with chamoy and tajin instead of salt. Otherwise everything was amazing.
Don't walk, run to this place. I'm so happy "I found" this place. As a Mexican, you always miss the food with a taste of home, and after 10 years living in the Bay Area, today I can't stop smiling and keep "thinking/dreaming" about the food. As a vegetarian, it is always disappointing that in the "Mexican places" your options are: quesadilla, bean burrito with rice, chips & guacamole, and french fries, but here you can have options and also you can enjoy gorditas!! (handmade and with authentic Mexican flavor). They have a varied and truly Mexican menu (note: burritos and french fries are not Mexican) and el Café de Olla (delicious Mexican coffee) is legit, and please, try their Aguas Frescas. It's a family-owned place, where 95% of its employees are women. All of them are very kind and friendly. Today I had: * Tacos dorados de carne (tacos in fry tortilla with potato and lamb), comes with consomé, onion & cilantro, and hot salsas * Chicharrón gordita (pork rind in green salsa), comes with queso fresco and beans. * Potato gordita, comes with queso fresco and hot salsa * Rajas con queso gordita (a plate with a base of poblano pepper, cream, corn and onion), comes with hot salsa * Gordita Zacatecana * Café de olla * Agua fresca (mix of cucumber and lemon, so refreshing) Please, enjoy every single item of this hidden gem.
LOVELY !!! AUTHENTIC !!! KIND STAFF !!! DELICIOUS !!! After recovering from the long illness, I wanted to east something good, affordable, hygienic. Let me recommend this place in my full senses. Justifying my recommendation below: 1. It has authentic Mexican food. The real flavors comes out in every single bite. 2. They have got a good vegetarian options. They are very open to replacing meat options with the veg options as well. 3. Staff is very welcoming to people from all walks of life. They are very well trained in their jobs and ensure to note done any kind of dietary restriction for their guests. 4. The ambience is beautiful and gives the Mexican vibe. I just adore to look at the colorful walls and feel lively with the entertaining music (not too loud) in he background. 5. The food served is delicious in every bite. It doesn't loses its charm at all at any point. Want to try really good Mexican food. This is the stop. Kudos to the entire staff.
This place is good. Consistent with the food every time I came back. Everything I've tried was good. This time, we got barbacoa tacos, chicken tacos, and a bowl of barbacoa. The flavors are different from birria but still really good. Enchiladas and chilaquiles are 🔥
LOVED the Cafe de Olla. Best one I've had! I also love the ambiance and the waitress who served us today. The only downside is the vendors
Good Mexican food. Staff is also friendly and attentive.
This is one of the top Mexican food places I have encountered in San Jose (I am actively looking for spots!) El cafe de olla is a 10/10, very sweet and I love the flavor! The quesabirria is a MUST and the gorditas were extremely delicious (we had papa con chorizo and nopales con chicharron). I don't like chicharron, but this place changed that! The Carne asada burrito was good, I would say I have had better ones, but still, it is big and filled with asada, beans, rice, etc. We also suspect tortillas were made by hand because it had a different yummy taste. I will definitely be coming back to taste more!!

Wow, perfect blend of customer service for almost A Homestyle Mexican Restraunt. VERY NICE PEOPLE, FOOD IS EXCELLENT. AGUA FRESCAS IN A CLAY CUP. YUMM 👌
Great place and their freshly home made tortillas are fantastic. Lovely staff and ambiance. The plates and mugs are beautiful. I could sense the care that is used on every aspect in this restaurant and their delicious food. Thank you!
Really loved this place. Everything we ordered was very good. We got chilaquiles, a burrito, and quesabirria and each tasted authentic and yummy. They were a little short-staffed, but the service was still great. Everyone was very kind, checked in on us, and never made us feel rushed or forgotten. The café de olla was PERFECT. Warm, cozy, and exactly right. Overall just a really solid spot with good food and good energy. Would 100% come back.
We tried this wonderful restaurant in New Year’s Day and it was a pleasant surprise. I had a wet breakfast burrito. The enchilada sauce on top was so good I could drink it! The man and woman running the restaurant were very nice and hospitable. There were plenty of clean tables to sit at and good music playing in the background. We will definitely return again.
Every time I come here, I get something different and I can’t complain because it’s always very good. Everything taste authentic like my Abuela is making food at home. The café de la olla is fire.
Wonderful family restaurant. Took my mom and brother and we all enjoyed our first experience. Will return. Thank you.
Best Mexican food in the area! Have been back multiple times and the food is just amazing! Will be back for sure. If you haven’t tried Mexican food before , this place is a MUST! Such a great atmosphere!

Pretty decent authentic Mexican food. The homemade tortillas are fantastic. Great selection of food.
I’m Mexican, the food is really good. The lady who served us is super kind. BUT… BUT…..the bathroom had not soap in a proper place, instead it had a little bowl with liquid soap so that everyone can put their dirty hands in there, I couldn’t believe that was real, how difficult is to have a liquid soap in the right way there? Generally the place is nice but not very clean, is not that bad but could be better, there should be someone checking the cleanliness of the restroom, tables and floors. Anyways I have to say that we ate here for second time and food is clean, we had no issues with that even though I’m not very tolerant to greasy food, my kids ate there and everything is good. Just the coffee is extremely sweet and the water also is too sweet. This place would be amazing if the cleanliness of the place is taken care of.
I stopped by here for a quick breakfast with my mom and sister, and we absolutely loved the freshly made tortillas. I was hoping to enjoy a smoothie and some horchata, but they didn't have any, which was a bit disappointing. Nevertheless, I'm excited to return and explore their lunch and dinner menus. The barro plates and cups they served the food on were simply charming!

Nice place, water was delicious I was a little disappointed on the food but customer service was nice.
Sad review☹️This was my go-to restaurant for tortas ahogadas and tacos al vapor. Unfortunately, the last few times they keep going downhill. Spoiled beans and so small carnitas portion in tortas, cold chilaquiles, and a really bad water taste on my coffee led me to make this my last try. The lady owner is really nice but hope this helps for her to keep up the previous service and food quality.
The food was ehh. The gordita de maiz was good, the sope was not so great and the barbacoa was sub-par for sure. The service was also not awesome. Hate to say it but will not be going back.
I was told by olot of people that the food was great good flavor unfortunately, I was disappointed with the food no flavor it was plain.

Food cold wasn’t that great, Small portions of food we had left a tip on the table. When my husband went to the register to pay, no one told him that the gratuity was already included in the check. This is unacceptable. I would not recommend going here for Mexican food. Not worth the hype and if you do double check your bill!!
I just get a menudo to go.and I only have 5 pieces of meat for $24 ? It's the most expensive menudo I've ever paid for . I called back and they said they were going to check the kitchen cameras🙂↕️.no mas
The OWNER of the restaurant was extremely rude to my family. They requested a larger table for better comfort and was seated by the server but was later told to move “in case a larger family came in.” That’s not how you run a business let alone treat anyone. Despicable service.
Went here based on the good reviews, but I was very disappointed. The parking lot is small so we had to look for a parking spot in the street. When we entered, we were greeted, and we were told to sit wherever we would like. The lady took our order, and my husband ordered a michelada (the lady never said anything that the lady who made the drinks was not in). We were almost done with our food when she told us that the lady who made drinks was not in, but she will get someone to make the michelada. The torta ahogada was more like a dry torta, and the sauce tasted like tapatio (the one that goes on top). The horchata I could not finish it because it tasted like water with sugar. When my husband went to the register to pay, no one told him that the gratuity was already included in the check. This is unacceptable. I would not recommend going here for Mexican food.

Went there yesterday because of the good reviews and decided to try it. We ordered some gorditas (al comal and fried) I was VERY disappointed when we got them. To start they placed all of my kid's gorditas in one plate. And waitress didn't know who ordered what. Which that wasn't the problem, problem was they put everything in one plate. The gorditas are super thin almost tortilla thin which were NOT worth as they are $8 each. They are pretty small and have nothing but the guisado in them. I was expecting them to be served at LEAST with some refried beans and cheese. They gave me the barbacoa one with lime wedges, cilantro and onion. The chicharron one was nothing but the chicharron. The guisado to me lacked flavor. It was bland. The chocomiles or licuados aren't even made with real fruit. They make them with fake flavors. My daughter ordered some chicken enchiladas which were again bland and barely had any sauce. I was very disappointed because I really wanted to like this place, I don't think I will be coming back again. Forgot to mention that they on top of everything charge a 15% "service fee" for a party of 5 or more.
Went there for menudo, the patas were not cleaned and had bunch of hair on it. The server was very dismissive and said they get their patas and just throw it in the soup. She went ahead and still charged us for that. It was very unprofessional of her to not own up to their mistake. We paid $50 for Menudo Con Pello. We also waited for 20 mins to get the table. Not recommended.
