Great location. Food was amazing and I really enjoyed the outside seating area.
A Lively Cozy Izakaya when you want to experience Japanese vibes on a whim after shopping at Santana Row on a Chilly Evening. A warm Junmai Sake started off the festivities. She liked the rich dashi Udon with succulent Shrimp, Mushrooms and Nori. The side of tempura added a nice crunchy twist to the experience. Absolutely had to have a Sake Nigiri Sushi and it was fresh as ever. Warm lighting added to the authentic feel of the place. I’m already thinking of returning back with a bunch of friends for Happy Hour Sashimi Nigiri SakeBombs 🇯🇵
Had such a great time at happy hour with my best friend! The vibe of the restaurant was super nice, the sushi was absolutely delicious, and the service truly made the experience. Dave and Jorge were incredible - attentive, fun, and made us feel taken care of. They made our visit memorable and this is officially our new spot. Highly recommend if you’re looking for great food, great service, and an overall amazing experience! 🍣✨
Fantastic experience at Ozumo Santana Row. The food was excellent, very fresh and full of flavor. We had shrimp tempura, crispy rice with salmon, edamame, and a couple of salmon rolls, and everything was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Service was outstanding. Our server was very friendly and attentive, and the chef even came out to introduce himself, which made the meal feel personal and welcoming. The atmosphere is cool and low key with a beautiful patio area, lanterns, and a relaxed vibe that works great for a date or casual dinner. Parking is convenient with a structure in the back, and you can sometimes find street parking if you are lucky. There is easy access for disabled guests as well. Overall a wonderful experience and I would definitely come back and recommend it to friends and family.
I have nothing but amazing things to say about this sushi resturaunt. It is more of an upscale restaurant with an amazing atmosphere. I really want to impress about the service, they were very attentive, checked on us often, and was super fantastic to interact with. I came here with a larger group and the thing that really got me was that after we all ordered, 90% of our food came within MINUTES. We were all shocked and quite overwhelmed with food. The food... the food was perfection, I enjoyed every bite and it was worth every penny. Do note that due to it being a upscale resturaunt, pricing is higher than normal, but I do feel that for a special occasion it is WELL worth the visit. Thank you and I'll be sure to visit again when I'm back in the area!
At the suggestion of my date, we went here for NYE and I'm glad we came here. Btw This was my first time here. I was very impressed by the service and quality of food. For being such a busy time of the year, the food came out very quickly but in top notch quality. I'm a big sushi fan, the sushi here is certainly top quality and worth investing for a solid memory. Their staff was attentive and friendly. The tuna coma was my favorite of our whole dinner. It was simply next level and I'd highly recommend it! Overall, I had no complaints, my date/I enjoyed ourselves and the experience was fantastic.
Very good fresh, tasty food, great atmosphere, especially their super soft, warm chocolate velvet cake😋

We went here to celebrate a birthday. The sashimi were fresh, but prices were on the high side. We got the platter, couple of uni, and a few more sashimi—$400+ for two, not counting drinks. Since the celebrant loved it, and that’s what mattered most!
I went on a Saturday, had reservations for 6 pm. It wasn't crowded at all. We were seating right away outside, which is a quaint little area with heat lamps above you. Service was a tad slow in the beginning, but friendly. I've been here a couple years ago and always loved the food. I ordered an espresso martini and like 20 min later the waitress comes back with the other drinks saying they were out of the espresso martini then left the table. I didn't want to go through the long wait again so I just got a Diet Coke which they serve in cute little glass bottles. I ended up getting the Midori salad with the sesame dressing on the side, and an order of chicken yakatori. I would get this meal again it was super good, I loved the chicken!! Putting the chicken in my salad was also incredible. Garlic edamame was soooo good too!
Ozumo at Santana Row feels like the kind of place James Bond might casually stop for sushi , sleek, modern, moody lighting, and that unmistakable cool vibe. Whether you’re here for a date, dinner with the crew, or just trying to flex your taste buds, Ozumo delivers style and substance. 🍱 Standout Dishes: • Bluefin Toro Nigiri Melt-on-your-tongue perfection. Seriously. Rich, buttery, and gone in two bites. Pricey, but worth it. • Ozumo Roll Signature roll packed with spicy tuna, avocado, topped with hamachi and jalapeño. A little kick, a lot of flavor, and beautifully plated. • Wagyu Beef Skewers Tender, juicy, and kissed by the grill , a must if you want to break up the sushi flow with something rich and savory. • Miso Glazed Black Cod Classic. Flaky, caramelized, and silky smooth. It’s one of those dishes that makes you pause mid-bite and go, “Damn.” • Truffle Edamame A bougie little starter but highly snackable , salty, earthy, and addictive. 🍸 Drinks & Atmosphere: The cocktail game is strong. Try the Kyoto Mule or Yuzu Margarita , both fresh and balanced. Sake list? Extensive. Ask the servers for recs , they know their stuff. As for the scene: trendy without being try-hard. Think upscale lounge meets sushi bar, with beats low-key vibing in the background. Perfect for when you want your sushi with a side of Santana Row people-watching. 💸 Price Check: Yeah, it’s not cheap. You’re easily in the $25+ per roll zone, and nigiri by the piece adds up fast. But you’re paying for top-tier ingredients, polished service, and an ambiance that makes it feel like a night out, not just dinner. Final Word: Ozumo isn’t your quick sushi fix , it’s a whole experience. The quality is top-notch, the presentation is on point, and the vibe makes you feel like you’ve stepped into Tokyo via San Jose with a designer bag in hand. Pricey? Sure. But totally worth it for those treat-yourself nights.
We came here for dinner on a Monday so it was pretty empty. The service is still amazing but the food is not. They changed their menu and the items that remained and used to be our go to items are no longer that good. Wagyu Tarutaru ($23): I don't eat raw meat but this wasn't bad and doesn't taste like raw meat. However, the meat does get a bit more salty the longer you let it marinate in the umami soy sauce. The best thing about this dish is the taro chips which the whole table loved and asked for seconds. Ebi Tempura ($19): This was recommended by the waiter and did not disappoint! They used tiger shrimps so the pieces were huge and flavorful. The sweet chilli aioli & like dipping sauce was just as good and pairs perfectly with the ebi tempura. Nikujaga ($32): This is the braided short ribs that we always order but this time, it was a huge disappointment. The meat was mostly fat and overcooked so it was hard to chew on. Usurgiri Sake ($24): The salmon sashimi was really good in the truffle ponzu sauce. I didn't try the uni but it looked fresh and was a good portion. Gindara ($34): This was also something we always ordered. This time, they skimped on the portion giving us 2 small pieces but added in broccolini. They changed the sauce as well which was okay. Dragon Crunch Roll ($24): Pretty bland. Wouldn't get again. Ippuku ($17): I was expecting this to be sweet from the pineapple but it wasn't and the flavor was strange. I asked them to make it more sweet which made it better but I would not get this drinks again. Yakuza ($18): Pretty good whiskey drink and strong.
Definitely overpriced. I really wanted to enjoy the food, but it was very average. The menu sounded great on paper, but the flavors didn't land. Even the shishito was bland. The chicken skewer was probably the only tasty item, but it was too small a portion. The chutoro (bluefin tuna belly) had a fish scale which wasn't pleasant. The desserts were also disappointing. We ordered the basque cheesecake (which tasted good initially but then got very eggy) and the mouse (it was not the soft mouse. It was hard, almost like frozen icecream with strawberry sorbet and none of the flavors came through). The service was good though, they were quick and attentive. The ambience is also good. Would've returned if the food was good, but its not worth $100 per person.
Located in a charming setting, this sushi place offers a pleasant dining experience both indoors and outdoors. The cozy outdoor seating, complete with heating, rivals the inviting atmosphere found inside, which boasts a welcoming bar area. While the food is good, it falls short of being exceptional. Despite a diverse menu featuring a variety of sushi options, including classic rolls, there's a lack of innovative dishes to excite the palate. However, the service leaves something to be desired. Though adequate, there's room for improvement. Our experience was marred by small oversights, such as not being asked our preferred size for sake and having to request water refills. Additionally, our table was missing a soy sauce cup, highlighting a need for better attention to detail. Overall, while the ambiance and food quality make this sushi spot a decent choice for a casual meal, its service shortcomings prevent it from truly standing out among its competitors. With some tweaks to its service standards, it has the potential to elevate the overall dining experience.
Not the worst otoro and uni I’ve had, but they were not the best ones for sure. For $24/ 2 pieces I think we can all expect a bit more for the taste. The food was mid, but the service was terrible. The waiters keep gathering together chitchatting and I had to wave them down many times before finally getting noticed. Would not come back here.
I don't enjoy writing reviews like this, but I want to be honest about our experience at Ozumo in Santana Row. I took a friend for dinner, his first time there, and we both love sushi. While Ozumo in SF has consistently impressed, this location fell short during our recent visit. It takes a really bad dining experience for me to give two stars because I'm extremely generous with my reviews. Our meal was slow to arrive, and our server was often absent, making it clear they were understaffed. We also noticed that the authentic Japanese sushi chefs were no longer working there, and rather than three chefs on a busy Sunday, there were two young men behind the counter, making the wait long. The food quality was another disappointment. The sushi rice lacked proper seasoning, and the fish wasn't as fresh. The tempura, including the shrimp heads on the ebi, was oily and soggy rather than light and crispy, likely due to the oil not being hot enough when they fried it. Even the miso black cod, once one of my favorites comparable to Nobu's, was a letdown. Not seasoned well and overcooked. We were understanding when both our tea pots were missing their lids. Obviously a small sign of mismanagement when simple things aren't rectified in ordering new pots. Sadly, this will be my last visit to this location. I'll stick with Sanraku, my preferred sushi spot in the South Bay, which offers better quality and similar value. The ambience was okay, though nothing special. They've changed the decor and lighting so many times throughout the years. Parking has become a hassle, especially during the holiday season. After two free hours, it's $2 per hour, totaling $6 for an evening. The new parking system, which requires scanning a QR code and entering your license plate and credit card information before leaving, was confusing and inefficient. Even though the system is meant to speed things up by scanning your paid license plate, you end up waiting behind people unfamiliar with the process using their credit card, which slows everything down at the exit gate. There needs to be bigger signage explaining the process because the frequency of new daily tourists will never be familiar like the locals.
There is "Employer Living Mage Surcharge 4%" on the check. Teriyaki Flank Steak, the first time they sent to us, it's over-cooked, my husband could taste the bitterness on the steak and it's so hard to chewy. So I talked to the server, she asked the chef to re-make it for us. It's better on the second plate. Roasted Mushrooms, I really don't know what to say?! It tasted like raw mushrooms. It's like they just steamed mushrooms, but not steamed thoroughly. But it should be roasted, not at all.
We stood at the door waiting to get seated for ~10min. Should’ve just walked off then. Took 20min just to even bring us the menus, another 10 for water. Food came out fast but that was the worst spicy tuna i ever ever had! FYI the tables next to us was visited by the same server atleast 5 times. Barely any tuna, pickled somethat was way too salty. The volcano roll could be better. Drink was ok- looked pretty tho. Very disappointed with the service as well as the food. Not worth it. Walk around and almost every other place to eat around santana is top tier.
I do NOT recommend this place, especially if you are going for a special occasion. Me and my partner were celebrating our 3rd year anniversary and decided to try this place out for the first time. As soon as we entered, we were put in a cramped small table with guests on either sides sitting so close to us we could barely hear each other talking. We requested to move which was accommodated as soon as a table cleared up. We initially ordered drinks, however the service was terrible on the day. We had to wait 15 minutes before a server could tend to us. We also ordered some volcano fries and requested for no unagi sauce since we were vegetarians. The fries came with unagi sauce on it so we had to ask them to replace it. By now the drinks had also come which were a 5/10 at most. We then proceeded to order appetizers and our mains which consisted of the mixed role and the tempura udon which were recommended by our host. The mixed role was so bland, I could not believe we paid 21 dollars for it. The udon was made to be extremely sour and salty to the point where it was inedible and we had to request our server to take it back and give us another entree. Not to our surprise, the stir fry noodle we ordered was also terribly made. We lastly ordered the choco Chan dessert, which was the only highlight of the night - it was really good. We were left very dissapointed especially considering this was our 3 years.
My girlfriend and I were excited try this place because we didn't see anyone in it. After this review you can see why. SERVICE - We first sat down and our waiter took our drink order and recommended the hanabi. So we ordered the hanabi and a veggie tempura. The hanabi took about 10 minutes. We were brought out a shrimp tempura but we refused it because we ordered a veggie so they took it back. That is fine but then after at least 10 minutes later our waiter comes back and asks "you guys didn't want the shrimp tempura anymore?" lol why ask that. We finally also ordered our entrees after that. We get our tempura finally and they were missing some of the veggie specified in the menu. It's fine but if it's specified in the menu I expect it to be there. Just put assorted veggies in the description. The tempura was good until my girlfriend ate some raw batter in the bell pepper. I'm lucky I took a picture because when I told the waiter he took the plate away so fast. He thought an ice cream dessert was a reasonable fix. We barely saw him the whole time we were at the restaurant until his friend left we started seeing our waiter more. FOOD - the Hanabi was hard to eat. The avocado was stuck to the plate. The ponzu was good and the yellowtail was good too. The tempura was not as described on the menu. The tempura sauce didn't really have too much flavor. One piece of the tempura was raw. Udon was sweet but the tempura flakes made it good. The noodles were over cooked, they didn't have a bounce to them. The ramen was ok just go to ramen nagi. The noodles were over cooked also. The toppings were good tho. Negitoro flavor tasted muted. The cucumber over powered everything. There was a laughable amount of green onion. Free ice cream was good had an orange jam with it that made it taste great. AMBIANCE - Looks nice and modern but food and service couldn't justify it. Save your money go somewhere else
