Mom and Pop shop with good fish ‘n chips at a decent price. You can order ahead of time and just pick up at the counter. There is limited seating indoors and also on the patio out front. The chowder always looks appetizing but haven’t had a chance to taste it just yet! Next time …

I have been eating here for years. Very good, high quality fish and chips. Their fried veggies and mushrooms are also very good. The shop is small but very clean and cute. They have daily specials but even without, their prices are reasonable.

Wow. I didn't necessarily expect much but this place was great. Don't be fooled by their menu, 1 Piece Fish and Chips is a normal sized meal. My wife really enjoys the expertly fried fish and I cannot rave enough about their popcorn shrimp. I don't know how to describe it other than to say that it is very crispy, not oily, and absolutely delicious.

Off the charts amazing!!! Hands down the best I have had in a long, long time!!! My family & I are sooo happy with our meal… fish & chips, shrimp, clams & coleslaw. Every bite was perfect! You have a new regular customer for life! 🐟🍟🍤

Great spot for fish n chips lovers. The girl behind the counter is friendly and fast. The food portions are huge , recommend 2 piece fish n chips. The 3 piece would be pushing it, trust me. Service here is quick so you're not waiting that long, parking outside no problem, easy to spot because there is a boat in the window and very reasonably priced. You're guaranteed to get your tummy filled here and go back for more.

Fan for life! I probably eat here every two weeks with my little guy. It's a treat for us after our long walks or park time. This place always makes delicious cripsy (not dry) fish&chips with their homemade tartar sauce. Don't sleep on their tartar sauce!! They have limited indoor seating and outdoor, which we usually pick. Put this on your MUST TRY list because you will enjoy every bit ;)

This is a place I always like to go when I'm in San Jose. As others have stated, the portions are massive. The last time I went, I think my wife and I were satisfied with only a 3 piece fish and chips. I'm happy with simple, well prepared fish and chips and a good value and this place definitely provides both. It helps that their tartar sauce is good (especially when mixed with malted vinegar). I can't speak for too much else on the menu as I always get the same. Also, I like the posters showing the different sea critters.

Oh my god this fish is so delicious and fresh. It comes from Alaska outstanding place very friendly service. Also, it gets packed very quickly by the time. It’s 5 o’clock. Five star rating all the way don’t delay get to this place soon you will not regret it, tender, juicy and crunchy with delicious dip, and vinegar dip.

WOW!!! Crispy crust on both the fish (Alaskan Pollock) and the prawns (Black Tiger), great chips (french fries) and the best fried zucchini I've had in years. The fish tasted fresh as did the prawns, french fries and zucchini. My better half loved the fish and coleslaw. She commented on the lightness of the batter which was not dripping with oil, it was light and crispy. All three of the deep fried items we had were light and not greasy or oily. The coleslaw had just the right amount of dressing not too little not too much. Most places drench the coleslaw in dressing which makes it inedible. We got our order to go, it was neatly packed in a box and was still hot when we arrived home. Tugboat Fish and Chips serves generous portions, fast efficient service and has reasonable prices to boot. We'll be returning soon to try the Lumpia, crab cakes and other dishes.

My only complaint was that some fries were cold. The overall food was fantastic

Really good place for fish and chips. Up there with city fish, anchor ⚓️ fish and chips, or any bay area spot here. Prices are extremely reasonable can eat good for 20 bucks. If ur in the area or live in the area and don't want to venture far this is your spot. One last thing, the staff is so nice and gracious to you. Sure there not fast but it's a small team back there so please be patient with them cause the food is worth it

Great food! We typically get the fish and chips, and they are consistently fantastic. We also tried the crab cakes, hush puppies, and prawns. The prawns are good too, but the real winner are the crab cakes! Very happy with our choice for dinner today.

I ordered the fish+prawn combo. So big and so crispy. Do order their lumpias if you ever visit. Their lumpias are delish! They serve 3 sauces: tartar, horseradish and sweet chilli. I would have loved to have had a slice of lemon on the side instead of vinegar so keep that in mind.

Very good fish and chips at a reasonable price.The batter was crisp and the fish was solid and tasty. Chips were well prepared.There was a good amont of foof forvthe orice. I also liked the cole dlaw.The wait staff was friendly. The fish is fresh prepared for each order, so expect a little wait for quality food.

My wife love this place. Excellent fish, piping hot french fried come with the crispy fish. We order vegetables tempura always goods. Small little place. But they have table to seat out side. I really enjoyed coming to this place. This was my first time having their daily special, which was fish and prawns with fries. Everything was fried to perfection . I wish the portions were a little more generous. I always feel like I'd need an extra piece of fish to feel full. Their tartar sauce tastes like they make it in house. It's not very sweet but it does the job. Ask for lemon if you need it.

Food I order was wrong. But the cashier was really friendly about it. He helped me get a refund and then gave me the correct order. BUT the fish and chips here are amazing!! And the fish size are hugeee!! I recommend ordering the 1 piece or 2 piece if you're really hungry.

Very good fish and chips at a great price. Visiting Monterey and the area was surprising that for the price Tugboat was way better. Friendly service. Veggies are good too and portion sizes are good. Fresh tasting, not old grease flavor like other places. Also, less greasy than Race Street.

The fish is SO tender and flaky, it was practically falling apart and the batter is light, airy and so crispy! The fish was longer than my whole face and it was a good thickness which was a plus. The tartar sauce here is SO GOOD. Creamy with a hint of dill, they really have their sauce down here. I thought the shrimp would be overcooked since other fish and chips spots I've been to do not have good shrimp for some reason but BOY, was I dead wrong! THE SHRIMP WAS SO GOOD, Y'ALL HAVE TO GET THE SHRIMP. It reminded me of shrimp tempura, with how airy the batter was and the shrimp was nice and bouncy inside! So addicting to eat, I wish I got more. The cocktail sauce was so good too--slightly savory with a horseradishy flavor that made the shrimp even tastier! The fries were on a thicker side and reminded me of Burger King fries. Nothing special but also not horrible. ASK FOR KETCHUP!! The clam chowder is not thick in the slightest and has more potatoes than clams. If you're not a big seafood flavor person you'll like this, as it reminded me of potato soup. It was decent but I wouldn't get it again at $6.75 for a small, I can get a can of Progresso for cheaper! My only minor complaint was a slight oily aftertaste with the fish and shrimp. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it did taste like the oil could’ve been changed a bit more recently. This was our first time here, and really only stumbled upon it because a chain restaurant we had a gift card for had a one hour fifteen minute wait!!! So we kept driving down the road until we got here. It sounded good and we believe we made a good choice. The Shrimp was very good. I was very impressed that they dipped their food in their batter fresh to order. No frills but definitely will satisfy a hankering for decent fish n chips that isn’t at a harbor. Quick service definitely helped. We will come back because the menu says they have lumpia!

Its just a small place. I enjoyed the fish and clams, but the overall experience was a little underwhelming. The fries were soggy, but I felt that the fish portions made up for it. The restaurant just consisted of a few tables lining the exterior window and notnreally a lot of space.

Nice friendly place. Unfortunately they thinks it's cool to fry all the food in the same oil. Chicken tenders not very tender fish was basic fyi there are more seasonings than salt . Again service was nice and friendly wish the food matched..

I ordered 4 piece and got an extra! Unfortunately the fish was overcooked. Super crunchy and dry inside. The fries somehow were also really dry. No salt or seasoning. Tasted very blah. It'll be hard to want to go back if the first time wasn't worth it.

We waited in a long line and ordered our food. They passed our number 5 and at number 8 we checked. They finally found the sweaty bag in the togo area at order 12. We asked for hot food and they passed us up still at number 20. We gave up and got our money back and went home to eat something healthy. The wait ruined our appetite. It wasn't the cook's fault but the ladies behind the counter counting her money drawer and lady prepping and barking out numbers. Why didn't they give us the next order from the grease? I don't know. We waited over an hour. Don't waste your time here and the calories. Food is average at best.

My fish was dry and overcooked, salad so-so. My wife had clams. Expectations of full clams, just strips. Not indicated that was the case, also clam strips were burnt. We did bring back, my wife got fish and chips. Much better.
