30+ years ago I had my first Monte Cristo sandwich in Solvang at Bit O’Denmark Restaurant. It was by far the best sandwich I’ve ever had hands down. Wonderful melt in your mouth goodness. I have been searching all these years any where I could find a restaurant that served them. None ever came remotely close. We finally made it back. And Oh My Goodness! It was just like I remembered. Prue heaven! Keep up the great work!
Wow! Amazing food and atmosphere! The Sweet Potato fries are the best in the country! The menu is filled with amazing food! I've personally been to Denmark and this place is a vibe! Our server Victor was amazing find his section and be prepared for a one of a kind, once of a life time experience in Denmark!
We had artichoke dip, which was amazing as an appetizer, then we had wienerschnitzel and combination plate, they were both pretty good. The sides were also so flavorful. We finally had Aebleskiver with strawberry sauce and vanilla ice cream. We were actually pretty full to have desert but we still wanted to try it and we glad we did! Also.they of course have Carlsberg which is my favorite beer and it is hard to come by in the US, so that was a plus too for sure!
Very delicious food in Solvang! We ate here on New Year's Eve and the place was not crowded at all. I had the roasted duck. Everything on the plate was amazing. The duck itself was tender and juicy, the cabbage was a bit sweet and perfectly cooked, and the potatoes were very well seasoned. The other guests were also extremely satisfied with the quality and taste of their dishes. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they kindly helped us by clarifying everything on the menu. I very much recommend this restaurant.
Interested to see what type of dishes they had so we got in line to get a table. Ordered the pork and meatballs. The gravy was the same for both dishes and accompanied by radishes, crispy onions and your choice of potatoes. But when you eat them with the meat, it brings all the flavors out. I enjoyed this and the servers and greeter were very very nice and helpful.
Bit O’Denmark is such a gem in Solvang. The food is honestly amazing, everything we tried was fresh and flavorful. The decor is cute and cozy and absolutely compliments the Danish vibe that is Solvang. The staff is friendly and welcoming, they really make the experience enjoyable. Solvang itself is such a fun little town to walk around, and this spot is perfect for a meal after exploring. Definitely one of my favorite places to take friends when they visit!!!!
We look forward to coming here every time we're in town and plan our itinerary to match their hours. Note, they are closed Mondays and Thursdays. My husband loves authentic Monte Cristo Sandwiches. For him, authentic means it is battered and deep fried. Taking a road trip throughout SoCal searching out the best is not unheard of. This is the best. Our favorite dinner is the Flaeskesteg. Each item on its own is good. Put together on the same plate is fantastic. For authentic Danish food, this is the place. Great service, pleasant atmosphere, and good prices.
Got in late into Solvang and they were 20 minutes from closing time. But the restaurant was busy and they were welcoming . We ordered Wiener schnitzel and the roast pot with prunes. The food was divine. Cooked with care and to perfection. The red cabbage and the sausage was excellent. I highly recommend this place. Definitely a do over!
A nice surprise. Among various restaurants in town, we randomly picked one, and we were in for a good treat. The place is spacious, service was great, and the food was awesome. I've had Danish food before in Copenhaghen, and this place definitely elevate it to another level. The flavor is innovative. Will definitely be back when in town.
This Danish restaurant is known for their lamb and roast duck... Which is excellent but when I am dining alone or with a date.. I order the Hakkebof Med Log with an extra fried egg and a side of pumpernickel bread... They do not have Danish rye bread but their pumpernickel is a great substitute.. they give you a choice of boiled, mashed or roasted potatoes.. if you order the pumpernickel bread choose the roasted potatoes.....COMFORT FOOD!!!! This is a go to restaurant when I am in the area.. When dining by myself I always choose the bar.. You will encounter a local seated next to you and a conversation will immediately ensue.
The staff were very nice and treated us well. The atmosphere was lovely, and I enjoyed having lunch there. The food was good and beautifully presented. Most of the dishes were on the sweeter side, which isn’t quite my preference, but I can’t give them less than five stars! If you like sweet flavors, this is a great spot to enjoy the food with a beer
Hands down some of the best food 😋. This cute little town offers a variety of Danish eats, but we stopped here and found some of the best. Service was great, prices were reasonable, food was top notch. Artichoke dip was to die for. I had the Monte Cristo sandwich and tried some of the hubby's sausage and meatball entree. 5 stars all around.
While in Solvang, I made a decision to get a little authentic. A bit of Denmark had the normal exterior of Solvang. The interior was clean and welcoming. For an appetizer I had the herring which was in a curry, onion and caper and tomato sauce. It was interesting but very pleasing and mild. I would recommend this dish I believe I have included a photo of the appetizer it comes in three bowls. For the main course I had an open face roast beef sandwich. With horse radish and potato salad. I was most impressed by the roast beef and the horseradish it was mild enough but really brought out the flavors. All in all a very good experience.
We went for dinner on a Sunday evening. The restaurant wasn't super busy. Service was adequate and no complaints. We got seated promptly. The server took our food order at the appropriate time. The two favorite dishes: 1. Hakkebof Med Log - groundsirloin with grilled onions was juicy and flavorful. Cooked to the request of medium rare. 2. The Wienerschnitzel - the thin slice of meat was light and juicy. The scallion potatoes, red cabbage and cucumber salad added a nice burst of freshness to the expertly-cooked meats. Why not 5 star? The price is high: $16 for 4 potato skin; each entree $26-$31; bread for $4; and a 16oz. beer $12. The meal costs an arm and a leg. This is our only complaint. Understand that it is targeting tourists, but we are "local" Californians who go back to the same restaurant for good food when we visit the town again.
It doesn't get any more authentic than the food they serve here. Had the Flaeeskesteg and Wienerschnitzel. We also had the crab cake appetizer and that was very flavorful and full of crab. The pork chop is kinda dry, even with the gravy sauce they put on. The scalloped potatoes were on point and the mashed potato was a little dry as well. The service was very intentive, and they never let my water go down to the bottom.
Good wings! I know, it's a Danish restaurant, but I really wanted the hot wings. I was not disappointed. The wings were in a traditional hot sauce and the wings were crispy and delicious. Comes with thick carrots and celery sticks and ranch. Loved the thick carrots, so crunchy. The ranch was also tasty. The service was great. The staff are very friendly and well attentive. The atmosphere is Danish cottage cute. Loved the Viking helmet over the restroom doorway.
I had a terrible experience here last night and strongly advise others to avoid this place. We weren't even acknowledged for a long time, and once we finally ordered, the food took nearly an hour to arrive. Worse than the wait was the hygiene—the dishes were visibly dirty. We ordered a combination plate and a Caesar salad; the meat was poor quality and the sauce was overly sweet and unappetizing. Everything felt very unhealthy and overpriced for what we received. To top it all off, we were hit with a 3% credit card surcharge that was never disclosed to us beforehand. This hidden fee felt like a final insult after such a low-quality meal. There are much better, cleaner, and more honest places in Solvang. Save your money and go elsewhere.
Worst service we’ve experienced in all of California. We came with kids and waited an hour for our food — a full hour. The place wasn’t even busy. No one checked on us, no apology, nothing. Like this was totally normal. When the food finally arrived, the meatballs were pink inside. We also ordered hot chocolate for the kids. At the end, the server came over and asked, “So… do you still want the hot chocolate?” — knowing very well we had been sitting there for an hour. It honestly felt like a joke.
