We’ve never been to a Portuguese restaurant before so this place stood out to me as I was looking for a place to have dinner in Sonoma. The place was quaint and rustic, small but felt homey. Our server and server assistant were honestly amazing. So friendly and attentive to our needs, promptly clearing dishes throughout our courses. They brought out an amuse Bouche for us to start which was a quick tasty bite. I had to try the braised pork belly. Best thing I had all night. Fork tender and so delicious with the apple lardons. I wish they kept the skin or made it crispy to give it a little crunch. But it was still an amazing dish, I could’ve eaten 20 more. Fisherman stew, Feijoada and Fish casserole cake were all so flavorful. Classic Portuguese dishes that we thoroughly enjoyed. For me I had the catch of the day that came with a bed of grilled corn, collard greens and something like a pico on top. Everything tasted fresh and went very well together. It was a great experience for our first time having Portuguese food! Would definitely come back!
This is a brilliant restaurant. The quality of food is superb. Portuguese influence, however the food far exceeds its origins. The dishes are made with finesse, care, and art. It deserves an additional star, or, moreover it deserves a Michelin. We have eaten at many awarded restaurants, and LaSalette is on par and in some instances exceeded Michelin level. LaSalette could very well have a star in waiting. The meats were cooked to perfection, flavor profiles were complex and sophisticated, portions were perfectly sized, the wine and port list is perfectly curated to match the food. The interior is also beautifully designed. Thought has been given to every aspect of the place. To top it off we had a lovely server named Damien. He also exceeded our expectations by taking the time to confer with his colleagues about which wines would be best not only for the foods but our palate preferences. Also dont skip desert, equally a work of art. The entire dining experience was just that: an experience and culinary journey - something hard to find nowadays! Dont skip LaSalette while in Sonoma!
Gabe was absolutely amazing! He made our whole experience at the restaurant feel special from the moment we sat down. He was friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and wine selections. We’re going to come again to request him!🥰
Lovely little place! The restaurant has an intimate vibe making it ideal for a romantic date night or catching up with friends. It’s nestled down a charming alley with small boutiques perfect to stroll through and a nice, quaint patio. The food was delicious with unique flavors and although we didn’t have dessert, as a little sweet treat at the end of the meal we were given a small, truffle like nibble (I can’t remember but I think made of orange, cashew, and coconut) and was fabulous! 💯 would recommend and return! Thank you LaSalette for a special lunch visiting with my aunts!
First timer! And we were both very pleasantly surprised. We are very picky about our choice of restaurants but I tip my hat to LaSalette. From the host to the bill we had an incredible time. The service was spectacular, the presentation was amazing and the food was top shelf. Fabulous meal and as amazing desserts. We jokingly said we wanted to come back the next day for dinner. And it wasn't really a joke. We highly recommend LaSaette as a must for locals and those visiting the area. A must stop on your travel plans!!! We will see you again soon!!!! Make reservations well in advance, though we were blessed with a table reservations 2 hours before we planned to eat so that worked too.
My wife ordered the Piri spirit chicken salad was deliciously flavored butter lettuce, chicken, avocado and bacon, and I choose the Sardines as a starter and the house salad. LaSalette is a hidden gem with parking in back. The sardines were perfectly baked, juicy and flavored by the sweet cerbolada onions. The fresh baked bread, shrimp croquet and iced tea completed a delicious authentic Portuguese lunch!
One of my three favorites in Sonoma. As an appetizer I ordered grilled octopus which was very good. My main meal I chose Pork & Clams - Porco À Alentejana which is a Portuguese dish of a pork and clam stew, it was delicious. Service was extremely good, we ate outdoors which was very nice, atmosphere is very good, very quiet and the set up is very nice.
If you are in Sonoma and looking for something special and not the usual kind of foods, I highly recommend La Salette which serves modern takes on Portuguese dishes. We ordered the Cod Cakes for our appetizer, it was delicious! For our lunch entrees, we ordered the Spicy Piri Piri Chicken Salad and the Arroz a Valenciana dishes and both were amazing, and yes, I ate that beautiful flower on top! The service was outstanding, the ambiance was superb and the experience was memorable.
Over the top amazing unique, high quality food, exceptional yet unrushed attentive service. Cucumber gazpacho was divine, scallop appetizer was my main entree and was the best I’ve ever had. Scallops were crisp, well seasoned on the bed of puree was divine. My husband had the chicken piri piri salad. He loved the seasoning and the crunch of fresh unique veggies was a great compliment. We rarely order dessert and since our food to this point was so fantastic we had to try it. The caramel cinnamon trio was velvety, smooth, silky with a bit of salt and sweet that was so worth the splurge. The outdoor patio with flowers, proper sun/shade that was both quiet with some good people watching of the darling alley was a perfect spot. It’s clear the owner and chef care about their customers.
Absolutely loved this restaurant. They gave a glass of sparkling rose for our anniversary. They refreshed one of our white wines on the sampler when my husband accidentally dropped some food in it. The heirloom tomato salad was delicious. The Portuguese “pot roast” was amazing. All of the desserts are sample style so you get 3 in one. Service was excellent. Highly recommend. Only drawback is they don’t have their own bathrooms.
We wanted to get out of SF to enjoy some nicer weather and found ourselves enjoying a beautiful day in Sonoma. After checking out the restaurants around the main square, we decided to try La Salette, as its Portuguese menu stood out with its unique offerings and tasty options. Shortly after ordering, we were provided with a free amuse bouche from the chef, shrimp croquettes with a slightly tangy sauce and salsa brava. The shrimp croquettes were crispy, yet also light and zesty; a beautiful start to the meal. I also ordered a caipirinha, my go-to cocktail when I lived in Brazil. La Salette's caipirinha was extremely delicious, with a healthy dose of lime and mint that washed down nicely with the cachaça. For starters, we began with the grilled octopus and tomato salad. The grilled octopus was cooked perfectly and paired nicely with the red wine vinegar, fingerling potatoes, and pickled seaweed. The heirloom tomato salad was absolutely fantastic, as the tomatoes were perfectly ripe and were complemented nicely with the chickpea puree and feta cheese. This was my favorite bite of the night. For entrees, we tried the bacalhau no forno, the caldeirada, and the açorda de Trigo. My mom loved the bacalhau no forno, which was a bit lighter than she was expecting but had a great punch of flavor between the salted cod, potatoes, onions and olives. My dad and I also really enjoyed the caldeirada, which had a generous portion of sea bass, scallops, clams, mussels, potatoes, shrimp, and linguiça in a flavorful broth. This reminded me a little bit of cioppino given the copious amount of seafood, although it had more of a velvety tasting broth without the flavor of tomatoes. Finally, my partner really enjoyed the açorda de Trigo, which had a perfectly poached egg that created a velvety sauce over the farro, mushrooms, and pine nuts. For dessert, we all split the fruit plate, which was the highlight of the meal. We really loved how the dessert was more of an assortment of tasty dishes that complemented each other nicely, rather than one single dish. All of the components of the dessert were fantastic: the poached pear had a nice spiced taste, the macerated mango was super sweet and tangy, and the pineapple semifreddo was velvety and tangy. But, the passion fruit cannoli was truly unreal. The tang of the passion fruit and light crisp of the cannoli shell were incredible. Would highly recommend trying this or their other desserts, as they all looked incredible. All in all, given the fantastic restaurants in Sonoma, La Salette is a great choice if you're looking for something unique that highlights local fruit and produce, as well as meat and seafood options. We would definitely come back here the next time we're in Sonoma! EDIT: Forgot to mention that the service was incredible and very attentive. Everyone was super nice, friendly and helpful, and made sure every part of our meal was enjoyable and to our liking. Thank you!
Excellent restaurant! Overall food was delicious! Was given a complimentary note sized appetizer (amuse bouche), which was not bad. Asparagus bisque - smooth, creamy texture, rich flavor depth from well-seasoned stock, showcasing the fresh asparagus. Pork belly - almost perfect. The meat was partially melt in your mouth. Some parts tough and chewy. Pass on this Fisherman stew - excellent! Great taste, and the best part was the seafood was perfectly cooked. Prawns had a great smokey bbq flavour , The clams and mussels was cooked just enough that it retains it's sweet, juicy umami and oceanic notes. Most places tend to overcook a little. This was just right. The only complain would be the mussels were rather small. That's more of an ingredient issue. The caramel dessert was excellent. Small details like the candied nuts on the side completed the whole dish Service was prompt and efficient. Great vibes
We had lunch today, It was our first time, as we moved back here just a few years ago. Everything we had we had was superb, so much flavor and a beautiful presentation. The Roasted Octopus was perfect, will always order it when I return. Paella - my husband had, he said it was the best scallop he's ever had. I had the Pork and Clams, beautifully cooked. The sauce was crave-able! It all was terrific. We sat inside, loved the room, we felt so relaxed, rustic yet elegant. We felt very taken care of by the warm staff. They all made our special occasion one to remember. We can't wait to go back.
Delicious experience! My expectations were very well managed when we arrived at this place and I was positively surprised. For a place that far away from Portugal, they absolutely nailed it. I have tried Portuguese cuisine before and when done well, it’s absolutely delicious. This place has an amazing team and management behind it and we (a party of 4) got an amazing meal. Every single dish you see on this review was spot on, well cooked, immaculate presentation and delicious taste (I tried them all from my friends🤪) all delivered with the maximum care and customer service attention. Not that common that I go all the way to Sonoma, but I will make sure that if there next time, I will definitely try this place for dinner. Well done guys!
Absolutely delicious food, quietly tucked down an alley off the Sonoma square has been serving top quality dishes for over 25 years. We return again and again...the quality remains intact.
It was our first time trying Portuguese cuisine. This is a great restaurant nestled in Sonoma just tucked away behind the Sonoma square near Sotheby’s. We wanted to enjoy what would connect us with this new cuisine. We ordered the ones pictured before and were definitely satisfied. Food is pretty good and satisfying. Service is polite and fantastic! Their bread was yum too! Love the evening.
