This is my new favorite Tex-Mex place in the NW Houston area!! We used to love going to Los Cucos, but they aren’t as good as they used to be. Pappasito’s raised their prices and now doesn’t seem as worth it. We came here to El Chaparro and were blown away by the service, food quality, and just overall experience. The nachos were awesome, the chips and salsa were also amazing, and our waiter was super friendly and helpful. We’ll be coming back here every time we visit Houston!

Had a great evening dinner with my family. Orders ranged from puffy tacos, tamales, chicken enchiladas and, yes, even breakfast of Huevos Rancheros. Thanks to El Chaparral Mexican Restaurant on Gosling just east of Kuykendahl. The chips were crispy and salsas we're good and not to spicy. Thanks for a great dinner. We'll be back!!!

Great service, great vibes, and just good, fresh tasting food. We'll seasoned, no need to add more. Has become one of my go to places. Lunch specials for the cheap folks..lol..overall a great bargain for the quality you receive

I’ve been coming here for about a year now. This place has been pretty consistently good. It’s one of the best places for stuffed avocado and their margaritas are pretty good. The salsa is also good, so in my case they check all the boxes on a good Mexican restaurant in Houston.

Ambiance: Local Mexican restaurant with an indoor/outdoor area - we sat on the patio because the lights & decor were quite festive! Loved the stuffed & fried avocado! Great portion sizes for the price. Service was fast & good. Parking onsite - definitely a spot that gets crowded on a Saturday night. We enjoyed the chips & house salsas. Sangria Rita was huge and a good price. I would recommend El Chaparro if you are in the Spring area and wanting Tex-Mex!

Great place for top shelf margaritas. The staff is always attentive and kind. This place is a staple when I visit Houston. We tend to go sleepy-time after......too much food & yummy margaritas!

We’ve always enjoyed visiting for Friday night margaritas, or just coming in for a casual Saturday meal. A great place to bring the kids. Food is a little on the salty side depending on what you get, but the prices are reasonable.

Service at the location is great. They are attentive and helpful. The atmosphere is like other mexican resturants, mexican vibe. Many seats inside, outside and a bar. The food it good. Many options on the menu and several options mexican food and american food for the kids.

BIG CHANGES. Apparently the New Owner is LOWERING QUALITY AND RAISING PRICES i order to recoup cost to purchase. We were DONE last month. Price increases EXCESSIVE. FOOD Quality/Flavor gone. Service, so-so. BUT, my son and family came in and wanted El Chap. (Been going there since the steak house failed) A screw up on the BUG order, only 1 small thing of beans(charro soup - few beans) small guac, and pico. For 5 FIVE DINNERS ? Hugely OVERPRICED

I don’t like to give negative reviews, however this place is a rip off! They can do better for these prices. Meat in crispy taco was mush, been sitting on heat/holding pan too long. Beans were sour. Although, the chips and salsa are some of my favorite in the area. Service is always pretty good. If you’re going to serve sub par food, then lower your prices. It actually made me sick because it was not very fresh.

It should not cost over $50 for two people to eat such cheap food. There was no gourmet made food in the plates served. El Chaparro had a forever client in me until my last meal. Three faj beef enchiladas for $20 and a plate of faj chicken nachos for another $20. Another over $7 for tea and a soda. The food was bland for the price and not made very well. This same meal is served for half this cost at other places. The tipping is expected at 20% or higher for service that visits your table just a couple of times. I will not return due to the heavy pricing.
