Maizal is one of our favorite go-to restaurants, not only on Bay Street, but on all of Staten Island. Guacamole like no other; smooth, perfectly balanced and seasoned. Burritos, fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, carne asada, paella, shrimp, and salmon. And before you enjoy your entree be sure to start your night out with an appetizer or two. Choose from their empanadas, flautas, nachos, chorizo y queso, and Maizal’s signature get-‘em-while-you-can stuffed sweet plantain. Great food, great restaurant, and the greatest service staff and owners. Put Maizal on your list of restaurants to visit soon. Maizal, 990 Bay Street, Rosebank, Staten Island. I havent had such a yummy 😋stuffed plantain since I lived in the Bronx
Me and my fiance went for our 11th year anniversary. Overall was a very pleasant experience. From food to drinks we enjoyed it all. We did have to wait a little for our food to which the server said there was some issues in the kitchen. When we did eventually get our food I noticed I got the wrong meat in my food (I ordered a shrimp bowl) the quickly remade and fixed the order without me even having to question it. The server also comped us for some drinks as a way to make up for the wait time and mistake with the food which was super nice and professional of her. Only other issue was it got a little to hot in the area we sat, i stepped outside for some cold air, but that was after eating and drinks which could 100% make you feel hotter. I would definitely go back when in the area.
We all enjoyed our drinks and our food, if the crab cakes are offered, get them! We find that the quality and quantity of the food has been consistently excellent throughout the many years we have eaten at Maizal. The waitstaff is always friendly and competent.
I have been to Maizal on several occasions and went there for lunch today with my dad. The food is great, the atmosphere is inviting, and the staff is friendly. I highly recommend! The menu includes a few vegan options, including a black bean soup that was absolutely delicious, and vegetarian options.
This restaurant by far is the best Spanish/Mexican food on Staten Island. .The food was so fresh and delicious. You can have happy hour at your table.
A lovely Mexican dinner at Maizal in Clifton, Staten Island. Known for their margaritas, I had a spicy jalapeño and my friend had the grapefruit. For appetizers we shared queso with chorizo and a stuffed plantain with garlic shrimp. For main courses, more shrimp: tacos, a burrito bowl and their spicy shrimp special. For dessert, churros with vanilla ice cream. The food and the service were both good, as well. They have a great happy hour: Monday through Thursday + Sunday all day; Friday & Saturday until 6 pm.
Maizal Restaurant is an absolute gem! The food is nothing short of spectacular—each dish is crafted with care, bursting with flavor, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming, offering a perfect blend of comfort and warmth that makes you feel right at home. The friendly staff truly go above and beyond to ensure a wonderful dining experience. We can't wait to visit again soon and savor more of their delicious creations!
Delicious, decadent food, warm and cozy atmosphere, and lovely staff. Got appetizers to share with the table. Great servings! We ordered the stuffed sweet plantain, Sartén de Chorizo y Queso (my favorite. It came with warm corn tortillas) and super nachos. Get the Sartén. You can’t go wrong.
So my fiancé and I went to dinner here twice now and once we ordered take out. The food tastes delicious ! For starters they bring out nachos with salsa and water. We had Diet Coke. The fish tacos are a must try! It comes with a great sauce And a choice for a side; you can either get salad or rice and beans. We tried the sweet plantain with garlic shrimp and avocado as well. That was amazing. I’m not a plantain person but it was delicious! We also had the chicken quesadilla and the chicken tacos but the fish tacos are our all time fave! at this spot !! For dessert we got my favorite tres leches and he got the churros which comes with ice cream. It was very romantic. They have outside sitting as well but I prefer the inside it’s a little more intimate. Over all this restaurant is a great spot. Can’t wait to go back!
Maizal has probably the best guac I have ever had in my life! All the ingredients are fresh and they make it right in front of you with a mortar & pestle. Their quesadillas are among the best, as well. Went on a busy Saturday night and was seated immediately, ordered and received our food within 20 mins. Definitely a must go!
Such a cute place! Lovely atmosphere, good service, good music and the food.....incredible! Why four stars then? The drinks are weak and way overpriced for something that you can't even taste the liquor in. However, the food makes it well worth the trip! Everything we tried was delicious from the appetizers all the way through dessert. Their flan is phenomenal! Definitely give this restaurant a try, you won't regret it. We hadn't even left yet and we were planning our return trip! Lol
The guacamole was pretty expensive, not sure that was worth the price...i think around $17! Then I had the chicken tortilla soup, it was warm, not hot. My daughter wanted to try it and ended up spilling some on her lap. I was disappointed in the service when this happened, they did very little to assist. Threw some napkins on the table, that's it. Didn't ask if she was ok, left the napkins on the table, never asked if I'd like a new bowl even though a large amount spilled. The food was good, tasty though. I had seared tuna tacos, seasoned and cooked perfectly rare. My son had the paella, and it was good, but not great. Burrito bowls were chock full of good stuff. If go again if i was in the area, but I wouldn't drive out of the way to go.
Nice, lively, pretty local Mexican restaurant with a wonderful energy and good food. The menu offers some more interesting selections than the standard burrito, taco and fajita. Also wonderful that they offer vegetarian options for several menu items. The food was delicious and fresh, the chef's special had a sophisticated subtlety to it, but all lacked the vibrant kick one looks for in Mexican food. Our attendant was very nice and accommodating - offered us a side serving of their 3-alarm sauce to allow us to add some needed zest to our dishes. Their martinis were delicious but on the weaker side. My friends and I would certainly go back. *********************** Update July 7, 2018: returned here for brunch with vegetarian parents. The experience was very underwhelming. Everything was bland; the service slow, despite another couple and us being the only patrons. The attendants never look at you as they walk by, or ever come by to see if we need/ want anything else. We ordered cheese enchiladas, veg. quesadilla and stuffed plantain. The guacamole accompaniment tasted like something was rotting; when I pointed it out to the attendant she said they could only offer us some green salsa as a substitute. Nothing there warranted going back! As my Mom said, there was no "zing" in anything. That's why I lowered the rating to 2 stars. Definitely will NOT be returning.
