Driven past many times and wanted to give it a shot. What a great experience. Mary was our waitress and she was delightful, nothing was too much. Great selection of beer and wine, could not fault the well seasoned food that arrived swiftly and lovely and HOT. Pictures do not do the food justice as it was yum. 😋 Gave some praise to the chef 🧑🍳 who was extremely polite and helpful and explained his cooking and menu. All in all a great experience and will return. Best battered and seasoned fish I’ve had for while and the burger was so juicy.
We had a superb Saturday evening at The Plough. The pub itself is wonderfully cosy and set in a really lovely location. Our son Arthur tried their burger and declared it the best burger he's ever had in a pub—he absolutely demolished it! We also loved the sticky toffee pudding, which was just heavenly. Special shout-out to the lovely waitresses, Mary and Charlotte, who took such great care of us. We'd definitely come back again!
An excellent evening meal here - after lunch at their sister restaurant, the in Rye! On a very quiet midweek evening, we were very well-looked after by our lovely female server who was warm, friendly and professional. Excellent food included delicious mushroom pate, superb fish and chips and a homemade ham and pork collar pie with very good pastry - all clearly using high-quality ingredients prepared with expertise. This pub has deservedly been placed No 20 in the recent Good Food Guide Top 100 Pubs.
Excellent Sunday Lunch with a friend. Large portions of steaming hot , beautifully cooked food, delivered with humour, professionalism and kindness. A busy pub, with lovely staff who really looked after their guests. Thank you to Gem, Paige and Will for their hospitality. We will return and also recommend this to our guests staying at our local B and B!
Went last night and had a really pleasant experience. Food was great and they kindly accommodated my dairy allergy and even added a couple of excellent alternative sauces with my steak. There was only one guy doing front of house and all serving. He was working like a Trojan and was attentive to all as far as I could see. He even kindly gave us some ground coffee to take as we were staying locally and couldn’t get any that night. I felt that the prices were perfectly reasonable. Pubs and Resteraunts are really under pressure at the moment and so places like this that are working hard to keep standards should be recognised. I would definitely return.
We stopped here for lunch spontaneously and it was a real treat. Lovely pub with fires and countryside views. Food was brilliant and so tasty. Service was excellent too.
I’ve eaten here about six times now, and each time has been so consistently good that I thought I ought to review it! It’s one of my favourite places. Photo is from from May 2023, so a while ago, and the menu is seasonal, exciting and ever changing (but still with plenty of big hitters and familiar favourites). Dog friendly, with a nice garden.
A very special stay at The Plough. We spent the best part of the weekend in the sunny beer garden overlooking the valley, tucking into seriously tasty snacks like the confit duck croquettes. The food is excellent—classic yet modern pub fare. Chef Lloyd Williams has crafted a stunning menu. The upstairs apartment was gorgeous, with views of bright green fields, big old oak trees, and farm life. The Plough has a great wine selection, so we bought a very delicious Burgundy to enjoy after hours. The team here goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. Our cup was well and truly full.
We returned to The Plough after too long a period. We had a warm welcome from the staff. We found the menu choice interesting a pleasant change from the usual pub grub choices. My wife and I chose different mains and were thoroughly impressed with the unique leek scotch egg barghi which was delicious and my ham hock & pork pie which was presented beautifully and tasted great. We went on try the chocolate terrine with pearl barley ice cream and stickey toffee pudding which were both Mega! Charlotte and Mary were both friendly and professional. We will return.
We came here on a Sunday morning for lunch after a little trip to Rye from London. We had to book the place as it seemed to be quite full. The pub in itself is beautiful, well maintained, clean and dogs are allowed in. The staff is very friendly, polite and nice. The food is delicious. We took artichokes Sunday roast, two beef roast and a cesear salad and everything was just very good! Portions also very generous. Everything for 25£ each which in London is unimaginable! The service charge is not included which I am not used to it anymore 😆, so we did add extra tip on top of the bill otherwise it would have been less than 22 pounds each!
Lovely visit for lunch time. Gentleman was very attentive and friendly. Lovely coffee and our chips were hot and delicious. Thanks so much for such a great visit.
Best roast I’ve had in years! We had the lamb and vegan roast, both were amazing and so flavourful. Lovely cosy atmosphere with friendly staff.
Incredible Sunday roast with stunning vegetables, my wife and I absolutely loved it. Guinness bread and absolute treat as well. Super reasonably priced..will definitely be back.
This was our first visit to the Plough. Albeit fairly quiet for a Saturday night we had a lovely relaxed meal. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was excellent in taste and quantity. Was really good to see other dishes on the menu that you don't see everywhere else. Price was a touch over £80 for two people. 3 courses for me, two for my wife and two drinks each. We left feeling full! Two log burners in the bar and restaurant which made it feel homely. If I had to point out a negative it would be not enough options of ciders! Ample parking available
Went with a party of six. Every single dish we had was excellent - several different roasts and appetizers amongst us. Our server was also really great.
My partner and I came here for the first time and we are in love! The atmosphere is amazing, Trayan served us and he was super attentive and had the best customer service we’ve ever seen. The food was PERFECT! Definitely will be back again. Update: we came back for my 21st and Trayan again treated us with the best service possible and made us feel very welcome!
I came here for Father’s Day. The team were incredibly welcoming when we arrived. We both had one of the most incredible roast beef’s I have ever had and shared a lovely cauliflower cheese. Lovely wine as well. Cannot fault anything at all. Atmosphere was brilliant. 10/10 would recommend.
We ate for the first time at the plough tonight a table of 10 of us & i couldn't fault it the food was fantastic to be honest I haven't had a better burger & the sticky toffee pudding was unbelievable staff smiley & helpful , will definitely be back x
First time visitor. Popped in for light bites and a drink at lunchtime. Enjoyed 1) beef ribs and blue cheese croquettes & 2) Scallops with a light harissa paste along with a glass of merlot and pint of best. All very tasty and pleasantly served. Reasonably priced too! Atmosphere pleasant but slightly quiet given it was lunchtime and midweek. Will return
breathtaking Gardens.buggy from carpark to main entrance,if blue badge holder.staffso helpful.perhaps a one way sytstemwouldve helpful, even afterword as paths narrow.loved the new delos garden.all the site very popular.pick your times. maybe neccessaryto pack a picnic as both cafe and restaurant very busy.. only 1 toilet,(needs to be at least 4)
True authentic pub. The food was great so it was the service. If you're around go for the Sunday roast and a very nice sticky toffee.
The best burger in town! Lovely staff, great atmosphere! I will be coming back and recommending to my friends !
Great little pub would highly recommend excellent service staff went above and beyond on been helpful and friendly 😁
Excellent fish and chips. Beautiful pub. Great service.
Once again, superb meal and service. The fish and chips were outstanding and my partner loved the burger. Desserts were lovely. Simple food, beautifully cooked and presented. Love The Plough.
Simply superb - definitely recommend booking as it was busy. Best Sunday roast we have had out for years! Great staff. Winchelsea lamb was amazing! 😀
Absolutely fantastic pub. Very welcoming, looks beautiful and the garden is perfect for a sunny Summer evening. We were staying nearby for my Birthday and went here for dinner, I could not fault it at ALL. Service was superb and the food was truly fantastic, the best pub meal we've ever had. My husband described the lamb pie is 'exceptional' (never heard that out of him before!!) and my fish and chips was up there with the yummiest I've eaten (and we live by the seaside!). We live about 2 hours away but I would seriously consider planning a return trip to the area purely so we could eat here again. Highly recommend!
Great Bistro Pub. We had the best Sinday roast there. Staff gave excellent service and could not do enough for us. Very dog friendly. Highly recommended.
We stopped off at The Plough on a hot day and were so glad we did. It’s a beautiful countryside pub with a warm, homely atmosphere. The interior really embraces that country charm — cosy yet elegant, with beautifully laid tables that made it feel really welcoming. The staff were lovely — helpful, understanding, and genuinely friendly. Even the other customers were chatty and kind, which added to the relaxed and inviting vibe. We just popped in for a drink, but the back garden was a real treat — loads of shaded seating and gorgeous views across farmland. A perfect place to pause and take it all in. We’ll definitely be back, hopefully to sample the food next time. A proper little find!
We came in last month looking for a late-night sticky toffee pudding—what a wonderful cozy spot to wander into! Food and service were excellent
We arrived quite early and we're the only guests to begin with. Both our meals were excellent and the whole place was well run and organised. The restaurant filled up while we were lunching and had a good atmosphere.
Nine of us dined last night for my Dad's birthday as we're staying in the area and wow! The food was incredible, hands down the best fish and chips I've ever tasted. Hats off to the chef! Service was incredible, thank you so much for your hospitality!
We had a fantastic Easter Sunday roast at The Plough near Rye—absolutely loved it! Despite the pub being quite busy when we arrived, and a short wait for our reserved table, the staff were incredibly warm and accommodating. Their kindness and efficiency made the experience even more enjoyable, and the food was well worth it. A wonderful spot for a cozy, delicious meal—highly recommended.
Amazing food! The burger and steak are very very good! Very friendly and amazing staff as well, definitely recommend!
We had a table for four on Saturday night food was lovely service was good but I would have enjoyed our Meal a lot more if it weren't for the dogs around the table one in particular kept Barking
Warm, welcoming pub with good food We had a lovely lunch and the restaurant was able to accommodate us on short notice. The ploughman’s was a little bit small (or a little bit expensive) for was was received and we did need to wait for over 40 minutes for food to arrive. Everything was tasty and we enjoyed dessert as well.
Superb lunch - seasonal, interesting, tasty main courses; delicious desserts, also seasonal. Very good service. A pleasant room with the woodburners roaring away. Only flaw was the sound - a but intrusive as not to may taste; so one star less on atmosphere.
Excellent food and good, friendly service. Nice ambience and I'm told the views are lovely, though the weather when I went was not up to sitting outside. Eight quid for literally three strawberries is taking the mickey though - even with cream and honeycomb.
I like that place. Very friendly staff.. good food .very nice atmosphere
I was taken to The Plough for a birthday meal. Food was very good as was the service. Table too was a bit loose and environment quite noisy but obviously fine for larger groups and families. Parking available but limited.
Nice meal in a friendly pub. Good fresh seafood options with nice beers on tap and a good selection of wines.
Service was lovely, really friendly staff. Had the veggie roast- the mushroom element of it was very salty but otherwise good. On the costlier side though for a roast with a mushroom as its cente piece! Thanks for the hospitality 😊
Visited this pub while staying near Rye, as I'd heard good things. I had the burger and my friend had the cod. I then finished with sticky toffee pudding. It was mid week and they were clearly expecting it to be quiet as only one member of staff on. But several walk-ins turned up and we did find she seemed a little stressed. Not the warmest of welcomes, but still polite and professional. Food was ok, but not quite as gourmet as the menu and prices suggest and beware, basic sides are extra. My friend said his crushed peas were cold and hard. Fries were super crispy though! Was disappointed with the sticky toffee pudding. It was light as a feather with good flavour, but no sauce! This left it a little dry, as the small scoop of ice cream wasn't enough to go with every bite. Overall I left a little disappointed. But on reflection I think mostly that was down to atmosphere. There simply was none. :(
Family meal of fish and chips, burgers and the ham & hock pie. High hopes so a little disappointed, food seemed a bit underwhelming although the food was fresh and the service and environment was welcoming. Family agreed a 3.5 rating. A few more chips with burgers maybe, mushy peas a bit watery and the ham pie needed a tad more seasoning, although lovingly made. 2 ales on draught and a lager or two plus a cider. Enjoyable but lacking that wow thing.
Nice pub with lovely views from the garden area. Staff friendly and helpful. Food disappointing with a very limited menu as I gather they had a temporary chef in last minute. Chips need to be chips not chipsticks.
Booked a table on the strength of the reviews, ordered the roast with drinks, waited 20 minutes for the food. The hogget and the beef were both sliced thinly like sandwich meat with a strange rind, gravy incredibly thin with no taste of stock, the cabbage was really tough and my partner left all of hers. Went to pay the bill and so shocked the white wine with lemonade was £12...All in all a very disappointed Sunday roast for £60.05, the atmosphere was good but a large party were extremely loud.
