Have been coming here since day 1, and the food just keeps getting better and better! It’s always busy, and the owners are constantly making sure everything is clean. I love that they have specials but also the OG menu items! I love the pancakes, the sausage & hash, the south slider, and any of the pizzas! You feel soooo healthy after feasting, because everything is vegan, gluten free, and organic! You would never know, and my carnivore husband loves it too.
When I first visited Joi Cafe, I mindlessly ordered a coffee and the cashier asked for $6. Six bucks for a coffee? The cashier explained that it was a specialty coffee called Pure Joi Classic coffee. One sip and I was blown away. It had rich coffee flavor, some chocolate, whipped cream and other mojo. Wow! Definitely worth $6. The crowd is decisively on the younger, hip side but the cashiers are always friendly and quick to offer suggestions which helps with the myriad of drink and food choices. The cafe, clean and bright, exudes a joyful vibe. There is outdoor seating if you want to bring a four-legged companion. The breakfast and lunch choices are all vegan, organic and gluten-free. But you probably wouldn't know if I didn't tell you. It's a bit of on the pricey side but well worth the quality and service you receive. Plus, I don't mind paying a few extra bucks to eat healthy and consciously.
Best vegan gf food in the area! We come all the way from Ventura to get food here all the time because it’s that good!!
The service is delightful! The staff was nice and respectful. They were very attentive when dining and we're helpful in answering my questions regarding specific ingredients used within their food. Regarding the food, the broccoli cheddar soup had a good texture. It wasn't super thick nor was it just a simple liquid. It's consistency was good and taste was the same! Their lasagna is fire. Good portions and a relaxing atmosphere. Definitely a good time to en(joi) a nice coffee during the cold temperature of the evening. Or even a matcha drink if you still enjoy cold in the cold.
I absolutely love this place! I make it a point to visit every time I am in the area. Everything I’ve ever ordered from there is mine blowing delicious. My favorites are the avocado toast with just egg, the avocado toast with mozzarella (why did I never think of that?!), and all their smoothies are really good too. Highly recommend!
The food was unique but delicious, the scrambled is made from mung beans. I was reluctant to try it but I’m trying hard to add more protein to my meals. I must admit I was extremely impressed with the texture and flavor. My food was exceptionally well. The ladies who served me were great and most ready to help me with my requests and answer any questions I had about anything new to my plate, thanks.
Stepping into Joi Café felt like walking into a sunbeam that decided to open a restaurant. ✨ From the first moment, the energy was warm, inviting, and just a little bit magical — like your favorite cozy fairytale, but with better lattes. Let’s talk food: I didn’t know plants could taste like this. The kind of flavor that makes your taste buds do a happy little tap dance and your soul whisper, “Yes, this is what we’ve been waiting for.” Their vegan breakfast burrito? Basically a warm hug in tortilla form. The avocado toast? I swear it had charisma. And don’t even get me started on the golden state latte — it tastes like sunshine and good decisions. Every dish is clearly made with love, a dash of whimsy, and possibly a sprinkle of fairy dust. 🌱💫 The staff? Kind, cool, and somehow always in a good mood (do they secretly live in a yoga retreat?). If you’re vegan, plant-curious, or just a lover of delicious, feel-good food served with a side of sparkle, run to Joi Café. Your taste buds (and inner unicorn) will thank you. 🦄🥑✨
I have been plant based for 8 years. I've eaten at hundreds of vegan restaurants. I am also the author of a NYT Bestselling and James Beard award winning cookbook. I first had the pleasure of eating at Joi Cafe before I knew anything about them because I did what every vegan does when they roll into a town they're unfamiliar with: type the word "vegan" in Google maps. I believe in grading vegan restaurants solely upon their merits. I do NOT believe in grade inflation because "they're vegan," "they're trying," "they're nice people" (other than customer service). Indeed, I find grade inflation to be at least partially responsible for the amount of "meh" vegan restaurant options and, now, their rapid demise, which ultimately hurts the movement by reinforcing the notion that vegan food = bad food. In sum, the overwhelming majority of vegan restaurants I've tried in the past 8 years have been... "not great." I say all of this to bolster the credibility of my evaluation for Joi Cafe. My first meal consisted of their Caesar Salad and Broccoli Cheddar Soup. I instantly knew that whoever created these dishes understood not just flavor (the soup), but was a master of texture (the salad). I delighted in each caper buried between conveniently sized hunks of purple kale; was soothed at the sight of nori (an ingredient not usually found in Western establishments) sprinkled between the greens; and utterly amazed by the tang from the dressing. Do I like everything on the menu? No. Joi's menu is far too diverse to please every taste every time. But I love so much of the menu, I go back at least 5 times a week. Sometimes it's the Caesar Salad, today it was the bagel sandwich, and tomorrow, it'll almost certainly be the Acai Bowl (the best I've ever had--the creator was smart enough to understand you can't just put the "toppings" on top!). I love that there are plenty of options that do NOT have alternative meat--just plain beans, potatoes, greens, and fruit. The dishes on this menu weren't thrown together by someone who watched 17 YouTube videos and now thinks they know how to cook (which is what I sometimes think is the case for most vegan restaurants). Whoever designed the food on this menu knew what they were doing, employed skills that obviously took decades to develop. If you found the food tasteless, bland, or subpar, it's likely you went on a very very very bad day (which is hard to believe since I've gone hundreds of times and NEVER experienced this) OR your tastebuds are defective.
This cafe is heaven for me. Everything is gluten-free, vegan and so incredibly delicious. Every dish I’ve tried has been full of flavor. Portions are generous, and the food is fresh and filling. It’s always busy and you might even spot a celebrity or two. They’ve recently changed their hours and now close at 5pm daily, which is a bit of a bummer but understandable. Favorite dishes so far are: pizzas (the GF vegan crust is by SunOven Gluten-free Baking Company and it’s the best GF crust ever), the Caesar salad, and the watermelon poke bowl. I really wasn’t sure I’d like it but it was amazing. I could eat it every single time I go. My husband is an omnivore and likes his meat but really liked his curry breakfast scramble. The coffee bar drinks and desserts are also fantastic. You really cannot go wrong here. If you want healthy, delicious food full of flavor, love and joi, this is the place. Also, the hallway to their bathrooms is the best.
I just recently found JOi, and the quality of the food and drinks punch far above its relative price point. I had the CLOUDSURFER coffee, along with the Shroom N Truffle 10" pizza and The Southsider burger with the hungry planet patty. The service was friendly and the food was brought out quickly. The serving sizes are generous and the items are well thought out and very tasty!
Joi Café in Westlake Village is such a great find. Low-key, clean, and laid-back with a really good vibe the moment you walk in. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the place just feels easy and comfortable to hang out in. I mostly come for the matcha because it’s hands-down my favorite — smooth, rich, and perfectly made every time. If you’re a matcha lover, this is the spot. The food is also great, especially their vegan menu. Everything I’ve tried has been fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. It’s the kind of café you keep coming back to because it just feels right — great drinks, great food, great people. Definitely a five-star experience. I’ll be back.
I love this place. Everything is delicious, the service is so friendly. The biggest complaint is that it is always pretty crowded because it's so popular. On Sundays there is a farmers market in the parking lot right outside so coming early on a Saturday is a good idea! I had a cortado coffee and it was brought to me on an adorable tray alongside the hearty and very filling breakfast burrito. This vegan cafe has plenty of GF options which I appreciate!!!
Best vegan food in the valley, all the staff are extremely welcoming, and the place is clean and beautiful. We had the bagel sandwich with beyond, and the scramble which were both amazing. The whoopie pie was recommended, with good reason- top tier dessert. Also grabbed a "Space Bar" candy, and it was very very sweet so keep that in mind when you get one. I actually wanted really sweet so it was perfect for me. Also coffee- can't forget this. Stopped by a lot of coffee shops and this place actually knows how to pull good shots and steam milk. Very consistent and smooth lattes. 10/10.
My first thought was love at first sight, first smell, and first bite! I got takeout and its my first time trying this place, and someone would've had to hold me back if I was dining in because I was imPRESSED!! The spices, big flavor, texture, everything was just on point. I got the Joi scramble and side of black bean sausage, literally chefs kiss. I eat meat occasionally but the black bean sausage was just soooo good. The tortilla had hints of floral/herb flavor which tells me it must be made from scratch with Hella love. I just wanted a bite in the car and ended up eating it the entire ride home in my lap 😅 Had to write this review as soon as my car stopped -- I honestly just picked up less than an hour ago. This place is a great gem to stumble upon, WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!!
This plant-based café is an absolutely marvelous place to get yourself a vegan meal. It’s often hard for vegans to find robust breakfast options, but they’ve got you covered here. From pancakes, to French toast, to huevos rancheros. I was very happy to see the large spread and selection. I had the vegan egg scramble and they did not skimp on the portion size. There’s also a wonderful selection of coffees and juices, as well as pastries. The staff was very kind and helpful and there’s plenty of seating available. You really can’t go wrong if you’re looking for a vegan breakfast and stop by JOi Café!
The best coffee i ever had in my life through out the globe. The cafe is so calm and quiet . Food is healthy as well as tasty. Must go place even if you have to made efforts to drive a long way. Bliss for all the coffee lovers
The food was fresh, delicately flavorful (the flavors worked so well together) and beautifully presented. The service was next level fast, friendly and welcoming. It was during a busy lunch time, yet the tables still allowed for comfort and it wasn’t loud.
Fully vegan Cafe with many healthy and gluten free options. They offer delicious drinks and pastries, as well as savory breakfast and lunch options. We enjoyed the pancakes and the breakfast burrito, and some lattes. Really flavorful and filling. Would totally reccomend!!!
So grateful to have this sensational cafe locally!! I have been eating here for about 5 years now. The staff is always friendly and inviting! The food is above & beyond EXCEPTIONAL! I love that I can order anything on the menu and not have to worry, since everything is vegan & gluten free! Everything is soooo yummy!!
Really delicious food. The servers were friendly and helpful, the restaurant was clean and there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for this busy establishment. The salads were surprisingly my favorite: well dressed and very fresh produce. I look forward to my next trip to Thousand Oaks so I can come here again.
Joi cafe is our FAVORITE place to eat healthy and nourishing vegan food (and I’m not even vegan, YET!) and drink delicious exquisite beverages and enjoy this unique and magical cozy high vibe community. So excited by the dining experience here many of us from Malibu make the fun and devoted pilgrimage over the hill to this oasis and Mecca of truly GOOD VIBES ONLY simply because the experience here is amazing and truly worth it. Finding a peaceful, soothing and still social, happy and lively hub of wonderful souls and guaranteed nurturing energy is a gift in this face paced world. Remember discovering this real magic place of culinary and visual delights when it first opened over eight years ago and I’m a dedicated follower…and I don’t follow anything or anyone usually and this is my first time in my life I’ve ever written a review. The BEST!!!!! All the stars and beyond for this great cafe. Thank you for creating a welcome inclusive atmosphere of love and conscious eating pleasure. Own your magic. Warmth. BRB. 💛
Awesome! Plant-based food, vegan restaurant with amazing coffees. You don't even realize you're eating vegetables. Very good. They also have a new location called JoyBirds. Located at 299 Thousand Oaks Blvd #4, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360
Just wanted to stop by for a coffee & was pleasantly surprised to see a very full menu when I walked in. I ordered the Almond Joi(choice of almond or oak, chose almond) & it was probably one of the best almond based drinks I’ve tasted. I also ordered the “Street corn” to go and it was delicious, definitely street level. Next time I’ll see if there is a “esquite” style or off the cob version. Also I’m used to white corn rather than the yellow corn they used but overall it was solid and the flavors were on point. Excellent customer service even through peak times. I’ll definitely come back here for their pizza and other menu items.
I'm amazed. I had so nice lunch over here. It was so perfect, all the flavors in all the dishes. The huevos rancheros (I forgot to take a picture) with 'egg' is a bomb, everything on the plate tasted so much! I felt like I was dining in France lol. We also ordered breskfast beyond sausages with hashbrown and veggies, and it was perfect too. As a side it came with pancake. It made us think to order the whole pancake menu, but we were already full....what else to say. They have very nice display of very unique all vegan desserts, high quality vegan cheeses and I bet the smoothies are delicious too, because as I've seen on other tables, they have something like whipped cream on top! I can't wait to have another opportunity to visit this place! (If you come on Sunday, there is a farmer's market going on that day and you can buy nice organic local fruit and veggies after having this great food)
Came in for some breakfast and saw they had fancy banana pancakes. Well they call it superfood pancakes but they do taste like banana pancakes that are healthy. I ordered that and a coffee total was $20. Man inflation is killer! If I went to dennys and spent $20 I’d feast like a king! But I’m in town and wanted to support local. It’s located in a shopping plaza and they open at 7am. Everything seems to be made fresh and they have free wifi and unique color choices for aesthetic I’d come check this place out as they have a variety of other healthy food and not so healthy food. Looking at them donuts! Hope that’s as helpful! @ninjaxfang

Fave vegan cafe. They have EVERYTHING! And you don’t have to be vegan to love their food and drinks- good food is good food :)

I work in Agoura Hills and commute from Pasadena daily. The bagel sandwich here with fruit on the side is my absolute favorite food on this planet and I’m guilty of door dashing Joi to my job almost everyday this week lol. I’ve been here a few times with my mom in person and their gluten free/vegan options are SPECTACULAR and they make everything taste so magical. The atmosphere is so welcoming and family oriented as well. The price is worth every bite and Joi is one of my favorite places to eat.
Joi is so so good! Fresh, healthy, vegan. I like balance in my diet, Joi Cafe counters all the other crap I eat through out the week! I highly recommend a lunch there, grab a smoothie and enjoy the atmosphere!

I've been here twice because, honestly, I want to eat cleaner. Today I tried their Fun Tuna sandwich, made with chickpeas and beets. It was interesting and tasted very healthful. I guess JOi is somewhat of an acquired taste. My lunch mate said she eats for health, not for taste. I think that pretty much sums it up.
This place is incredible for vegan options. It’s pricey but what vegan place isn’t? They have such yummy treats that are some how still healthy. Incredible smoothies, yummy dishes (the omelette is incredible) coffee isn’t bad but I personally miss my latte with regular milk which is the only downfall! Either way, I love this place!

I’ve been here a few times and love the plethora of organic and plant-based options. The interior is clean, bright, and modern and the place always seems lively even in the middle of the week. That being said my last experience here was not satisfactory. I stopped in to pickup two smoothies at around 2pm and the cashier who originally took my order was pleasant and seemed grateful that I had tipped, telling me to let her know if I needed anything at all. I waited for ten minutes before asking another employee now at the register (who saw me and continued talking to a coworker first before finally addressing me) if there was an update on my order because ten minutes seems a little long for two identical smoothies. She said she would check the kitchen and came back to tell me they were still working on it. I waited another 6 minutes before the smoothies finally came out. Therefore, almost $40 ($16 per smoothie + tip) and 20 minutes later, I finally walked out of there wishing I had just gone to Jamba Juice instead. Safe to say I won’t be coming here again as it is grossly overpriced, the service is slow, and not all of the staff seem to provide good customer service. Not to mention, the “matchacita” smoothie tasted nothing like matcha. Sorry, I really wanted to like this place.

Joi Cafe in Westlake Village offered a vibrant atmosphere for a Sunday morning coffee, but the drinks themselves fell short. The first thing that struck me was the energy of the place. They had both indoor and outdoor seating, and we opted for the bright, modern interior. The space was well-lit and wasn't as loud, making it perfect for catching up on things. The menu offered a variety of healthy options, from smoothies and salads to breakfast items, snacks, and even some toasts. We decided to grab something quick to go, so we placed our order at the counter. The process was efficient. They give you a number to place on our table if you are dining in. Since we were taking our food to go, it was a quick wait, and the service itself was very fast. Now, for the drinks themselves. I opted for the iced chai, hoping for a refreshing and flavorful pick-me-up. Unfortunately, it had a peculiar aftertaste, almost grassy, which wasn't quite what I was expecting from a chai. My friend got one of the smoothies, either the "Powerhouse" or the "Machine" (the name escapes me now), but his experience wasn't much better. The smoothie had an unpleasantly strong aftertaste as well, and the texture was quite grainy. One positive aspect of Joi Cafe was the location. Situated in a strip mall, there was plenty of free parking available, which is always a plus. It was clear why the place was bustling on a Sunday morning – the convenience, healthy options, and relaxing atmosphere were attractive. However, their drinks need some attention.

Not safe for celiacs anymore. Very frustrating. Also food quality & taste has gone downhill rapidly.
Boring, undercooked and over priced. Initially was excited for unique veg options. Potatoes nearly raw, veggie patty cold and barely cooked inside, veggies bland, no flavor. I asked for cooked potatoes to replace mine but they never came. Salsa bland. Fun tuna side was edible, can't say much more than that. Dry toast with nothing on it? No thanks. Thanks for the butter upon request (I don't eat much butter/marg but was hoping to make this breakfast edible) but it also didn't have any flavor, couldn't save that toast. I found this breakfast a waste of time, money and tummy space.
