Fantastic!! I had the best chili relleno I've ever had! Great service. Pleasant atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!
Love the chips and mushroom quesadillas!
Our son took me there. It waz so delicious. An service was the best. Highly recommended 👌
The food is excellent and homemade. The best chicken mole I've ever had. For breakfast I recommend the carne asada and eggs, homemade tortillas and salsa. I'm sure anything you get will be above-average, good coffee but they can get busy. It is sure to be your regular place.
Quaint family owned restaurant serving delicious food and drinks. Staff is friendly and makes you feel at home. Will definitely be visiting the next time I'm in town!
Craving a carne asada burrito ordered thru a delivery app. $9.00 for todays prices was decent. When i received the burrito i was not expecting the delicious red home made style salsa. I'm not much of a spicy eater but. I tried it and loved it. The carne asada was Devine!! Charbroiled !! Oh man!! What a meal!! Will definitely buy again💯🙌.
What an awesome find for some amazing food. Definitely a hole in the wall establishment and I say that in a good way. Food was delicious and tortillas are hand made. Definitely recommend if you're in the area and want some good food.
Very tasty and good size portions. If your plate comes with 2 sides try the zucchini and the macaroni soup!! Guarantee you'll love em.
Yet another amazing visit to one of my favorite places. Food!!! So delish, Service!! On the spot and atmosphere, well just so awesome. Jocob you rock! Best chip and salsa to start the meal.
This place is wonderful. We showed up with 17 people in our group unannounced. They were so amazing. We were Seated in less than twenty minutes. The food is so delicious. We will be back again and again.
Great dishes, home-made with a chef's touch. The place was crowded and the staff did their best. Beautifully decorated.
Aside from the excellent friendly service, the food is phenomenal! I do not yelp or review often but definitely needed to make this place known. Thanks kindly for a great dinner.
Absolutely Amazing food!!! I love their salsa and chips. My favorites are the Delicious pozole, calabasitas, carnitas , and wet burritos. Everything is delicious here. It's definitely a place where you want to eat in but they're is usually a wait for the food, But it is fresh!! If you want some bomb Mexican food this is the place to come too..
1st time here and definitely won’t be our last! Had breakfast, chorizo plate , chilaquiles, and tortilla soup. All 5 stars! Chips and salsa amazing and to top it off the tortillas are home made!
Wow !!! What a great place. The food was delicious, perfectly seasoned and cooked with care. The carne asada was perfectly cooked, the shrimp enchiladas seasoned expertly. Try this place while you can. It is a cozy restaurant and I suspect that soon there will be a long line waiting to get in. I'm hoping they will open a new location in my home town of Tucson so I can finally get some good Mexican food.
Omgosh...Food is amazing. Our first time, NOT disappointed! Unfortunately I did not take a pic but I had the "flautas"💣 the green avocado/cilantro sauce is to die for. Everyone was polite & would ask if we needed anything, even the "Chef" asked. Definitely going back!!!!
There were about 10 of us retired firefighters meeting for breakfast. I enjoyed the food, service and location.
My family was staying at the hotel across the street and decided to try Zumayas. No regrets. The service was quick and attentive. My chilie relleno had all the right flavors and textures, my husband said his smothered burrito was delicious and my kiddo gobbled all the fish in her fish taco. Highly recommend!
There are so many Mexican restaurants to choose from, but this one makes everything fresh and from scratch. There sauces are great and the flavor of the food is outstanding. Their menu is not huge, but has enough variety to fulfill any request. They are attentive to customers needs and the wait for the food is minimal. A must stop in this area.
Had our wedding rehearsal there live in Missouri Go back every year we come to California. Almost 8 years. Stopped in the. The owner miles, remember? Great food, great place highly recommended.
Awesome place, good coffee ☕️ 👌 😀
This might be my favorite Mexican Restaurant in Whittier now. It used ro be good but VERY slow, but now it's like magic how quick they get the food to us. And SO tasty!!!
We needed food for a book club we hosted and ZUMAYA'S provided DELICIOUS food that was enjoyed by all of our book club members. Everyone raved about the flavor and quality of the meal we served. I recommend Zumaya's for dining in and catering.
The Pozole is delicious, my niece had the red and I had the green, spicy but delicious. The chicken flautas and chips also very good.
Every item I had was delicious! Grilled chicken, rice, squash, chips, salsa, flour & corn tortillas, & guacamole. Service was nice. This small restaurant is directly across from the Doubletree Hotel. I would definitely recommend & will return next time I'm in Whittier!
I love Zumaya’s because I consistently get delicious Mexican food. One of my favorite plates is their mole poblano with chicken. Finger-licking good! Yum! Plus, they have handmade tortillas! You won’t be disappointed with anything you order here. No vegetarian options here, though, which was disappointing for my vegetarian friend.
Ordered the carne asada tacos and the chicken flautas. Both are delicious. The chips, salsa, beans and rice just reminded me of good old fashioned Mexican home cooking. I'll be going back for more.
Omg they're OH soo Deliciously Delicious n Ohm Spicy I Alway's bring my own jalapeños wen we go out 2 eat 2 spice up my food but didn't really need it here but I ate my jalapeños w dinner n was it really spicy n Deliciously Delicious Daddy always said if it don't make u sweat it's not hot enough n it'll make u grow hair on ur chest 😋 😜 😅 Dishes r Carne Asada Chicken Green Enchilada Calabesita's sweet corn n Zumayas half geen chile n half red chile wet Burrito w Calabesita's sweet corn omg I also recommend the Chile Verde Combo Plate only if u can withstand the spiciness n there Salsa y Tortilla Chips omg 😲 😋
Chips and salsa was great. Beat I've taste so far. It has the best kick to it. I'm a black African American on a business trip and stay across the street at the DoubleTree for 5 weeks.... I arrived last Sunday and waited for this place to open. I walked in as a party of 1 and was greeted very well by the staff. The owner came by my table to check on me is what I loved. My stomach was already full when I walked thru the door so just happened to taste test an enchilada... It was my first time tasting it. Pretty different taste from my usual. The vibe was pretty cool. I wouldn't mind coming back to this place if I know what to order next time. I rate this and the atmosphere a 5 ⭐.
First time here while on a visit back to Whittier my home town. We had breakfast. The chorizo plata was great and the homemade tortillas out of this world, best I’ve ever had. Homey atmosphere and nice folks running things. Hurry up and try this wonderful find
Traditional Mexican food, every bite was delicious! I had the chilaquiles verdes with steak and a café de olla to drink. Service was excellent, I was frequently checked in on to make sure I had everything I needed.
What a delightful spot! I LOVED the rice and beans, and the green chicken enchiladas were phenomenal. Wonderful service from a VERY sweet lady. It’s a shame this might be our only time in the neighborhood (drove in from Arizona for a quinceañera)—if I lived here, I would make a HABIT of those rice & refried beans, yum!
Came here with my family a couple days before Christmas and it was amazing! The waitress was incredibly sweet and the food was great. I ordered the pork with Chile Verde and it was really good. The rice and beans were well seasoned and tasted homemade as well. Would definitely come back!
Just ate the best mole enchiladas ive ever had in my life 😃 service was great and very friendly spoke to one of the owners very nice I will be back !!!🤌
Always great food. I recommend the Posole and red sauce on any burrito or Enchilada. Grilled chicken with red and green sauce as well.
Absolutely amazing, and they handled a soy allergy request very well. I also love the decor.
Mentioned to our server that there was an allergy at the table to something in their fry oil and they did an amazing job taking care of us and ensuring that the allergen wasn't eaten. Even going so far as to make some allergen free chips. 10/10 on the service. And the sopes were delicious. So soft on the inside and perfectly just crisp outside.
Nice small place full of flavor we had an enchilada plate 10/10 and a chilaquiles plate wife rates 10/10 portions are perfect for our preference strongly recommended this place Ps servers were very attentive we thank you zumayas
This place has the best mexican food in whittier everone should come try the cook is awesome
Best Mexican food in Whittier always have a great time with my family and the service is great !
This place is so good! Very authentic. Reminds me of La comida de mi abuela 🤌😋
A firt time at sumaya was super amazing good food ,and great service 👌
A few of us had lunch there and really enjoyed the food! It was delicious and full of flavor. They even brought us a salsa made out of peppers that was absolutely delicious (and spicy) because one of us had a tomato’s allergy. Def would recommend coming here!! One of my friends left her purse there and they chased after us to make sure we got it. Thank you!!
We had the chilaquiles Verdes and the pozole Verde. It has been the best food in uptown Whittier so far, much better than any other place that claims "it's the best in uptown"
Great food in a comfortable atmosphere with exceptional service!
IF YOU ARE IN UPTOWN, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I love dining Inn with my fiancé at Zumaya’s, They always have live sports games and Music playing. They are very clean and restroom always fills and smells good. Their food is one of my favorites I stopped by once a week maybe twice, Their burritos are always served with generous portions and their posole & albondiga soup that I can tell is freshly made on the weekend is one of my favorites, Their handmade tortillas that they serve with their tacos Are very Tasteful. I enjoy coming here always brings me back to my roots
We’ve been coming here for years. The most authentic, delicious and flavorful Mexican food anywhere. Everything is always made fresh and you can taste it. We’ve tried everything on their menu and it’s all delicious. Love the shrimp enchiladas and their green chili is the best i’ve ever had. Their carnitas combination plate with the homemade corn tortillas is amazing too. I recommend ordering with a side of green chili sauce to add to the carnitas, so delicious! You definitely will not be disappointed.
Authentic and delicious! I can taste the high quality ingredients and care. The mimosa could be improved with some fresh squeezed O.j. but the food more than made up for it!
Absolutely great food along with superb service. The chip & salsa are the best with a drink while waiting for your food. I ordered a combination plate (Enchilada & Chile Relleno) and this is now my favorite place to eat Mexican food.
Where to begin? The service is always great! Everyone is always on top of checking in with you. Everyone is very sweet and kind! The place over all is very nice, neat and clean! There is outside seating as well! Me and my spouse have came here many many times and it is always a pleasure. They have a great variety of beers to choose from, and non alcoholic beverages as well! Let's talk about the lemonade they have here, it's so refreshing! The food is amazing! They start you off with chips and salsa and I've got to say it one of the best tasting salsa! Our favorite appetizer is the Totopitos with chicken! There to die for🔥 Here are some pictures to show you what we order here just today. But the pictures don't give it justice on how amazing the food is! Totopitos Chile Verde Burrito Mojado Enchiladas Verdes
Very surprised! Tasty and authentic! We got fresh mole with chicken breast that was juicy. The Chile verde was the best plate we ordered , we also got “sopes” which were not bad. Each of those were served with a small bowl of soup ! I would recommend
Super cute family owned business. Mom and sons run the business. Best service always and these vegetarian rajas sopes hit the spot 😋 definitely one of my favs!
Fast service, great breakfast. The pork in both the pozole and Huevos Rancheros was so tender. Both dishes also had a kick but weren't too spicy.
I love, love, love, Zumayas! 🤩 Their food is the best Mexican in town, it's by far the closet you'll get to grandma's homemade cooking, and made with love❤️ My favorite dish is the tacos de rajas with calavacitas and my husband ALWAYS orders the chorizo quesadilla. 😋 The owner the sweetest, she always comes to great us when we dine. Be sure to put Zumayas next on your list.
Yummy, elegant food!! Taste the authenticity with every bite! Good value, great quality, and good service! Do yourself a favor and try Zumayas’
This restaurant is a little gem at the end of the Greenleaf promenade. Their Sunday or weekend breakfast looks and tastes as though your Abuelita (grandmother) prepared it. Friendly, attentive, & welcoming service.

Incredible food. Bottom line- when a business creates dishes this good you can have limited hours of operation. I’ll be back and suggest you do the same.

If you want true authentic Mexican food that tastes great, this is the place to come to.
Nice breakfast spot with delicious food. All the items on my breakfast plate were so good, the chilaquilles, carnitas & eggs with queso fresco sprinkles over all, and crispy potatos. Its a lot of food! I couldn't finish it all, but tried. Highly recommend this place.
Somebody's Abuelita is back there cooking some home grown goodness!! We had the flautas, mole, and tacos de res. Everything was fantastic. Fresh and delicious! Kids also loved their meals. We'll be back for sure.
I just ate at Zumayas restaurant and had a delicious mole with handmade tortillas. The service was excellent, very friendly and attentive. 100% recommended.
It was another superb dining experience. The restaurant looked like it had been redecorated. My chile relleno was perfect along with the beans and hand made corn tortillas. The zucchini soup was just as good as last time. The menu is new. Some of the best Mexican food around.

Good Mexican cuisine, this place is only for a couple that wants a little bit more of privacy, or a date night. the ambient is Mexican revolution with the decorations of patriots and legends of the early 1900's. The seating is limited to 15 tables some are two seats and 4 tables of 4 persons. It's not a place for big family gatherings, at least not in my opinion. Unless you are ok to have your family seated in separate tables. There's a bar that seats 4 people only, if you want a drink. The price range is with in a reasonable budget, cheaper then Compadres or Guadalajara Grill, the menu is almost the same. Tall thin gentleman Server, is not to polite very cold in tone and does not carry a good greeting attitude. Makes you feel unwelcome, but I had to by pass it because it was a Saturday and I did not want to wait in line at la Barca restaurant. But the food was delicious I ordered Chile relleno and enchilada rice and beans. $16! Versus others $25! For the same plate, but I guess the discount price comes with the server nasty attitude.😂👍hope this review helps! Enjoy and be happy!!!
Haven't been here in years, but stopped in for breakfast and tried the Machaca plato with papas instead of frijoles! Muy bueno y rico, but not very big portions, and the Jamaica was like unflavored coolaid...🙄
The patio in the back is super cute and comfy, the service is amazing! The food is pretty good too! The front of the restaurant could be a little more updated but it’s still nice.
Food was a little salty for my taste..but great service nice cosy restaurant
First time here. My husband ordered different tacos and he liked all of them. I ordered the one enchilada roja and one chile relleno combination and it was good, but I had to order tortillas because my combination didn’t come with tortillas. I never had to eat my chile relleno without tortillas. Their aguas frescas are from a mix, not made there.
Delicious Mexican food. The enchiladas Del Mar are a yummy choice! They get busy in the weekend! But prompt service and very nice staff.

Went for breakfast and loved the variety of options. The place was packed, so service was slow and my tortillas never showed up, but when a server did speak with us, they were pleasant. My only gripe about the food is that everything was too salty. Like, it was difficult to tell what the chile on the chilaquiles was supposed to taste like because it was just salt. I would give them another try, though. The space is small, but charming.
Why I went back for the 3rd time... The food and the staff are amazing!!! Buuut... The reason for 3 stars... DEAR GOD!!! THIS PLACE IS DOWN RIGHT FILTHY!!! FROM THE SALT AND PEPPER SHAKERS TO THE FLOORS AND DOORS!!! Don't get me going on the patio! SPIDER WEBS, FILTH, AND THE LIGHTS DON'T WORK. They seriously need to get a crew in there to give it a good deep cleaning. It's honestly difficult to enjoy my food while wallowing in filth. I don't get the sense of Pride of Ownership. Show your business some love PLEASE!!!
The sauce was good, the chicken was a bit dry, the rice felt plastic at first, the inner part is better than the outer, flavor wasn't all that. I'll try other things next time. The chips and salsa were good.
The food was good except the carne asada portion was small also the presentation was terrible. They put a small piece of carne asada with some guacamole and it was even more obvious how little meat was on the plate. We were like, “is something missing here?”. I can in for the chile relleno and unfortunately they were out. I will say the salsa with the chips was VERY good. The service was not great. Our waitress was off doing random things and didn’t check in with us even though it was pretty dead. Not sure if I would return
The food was okay but the beans were cold. No one came by to ask if we needed something as we were eating. Actually no one came to the back patio to ask us anything after serving our food. We even had to wait approximately half an hour after our eating for somebody to show up to the back and ask us if we were done or anything at all.
Not sure if it was because we were in the back patio, but the service was not very good. Very disorganized. The rice and beans came at the end of the meal. Still waiting for my tortillas!?!? Part 2 So the owner answered me which I am grateful. But he must have confused me with someone else, because I ordered Nopales con Huevos and according to the menu, it does come with beans and tortillas. Plus the waitress did ask me if I wanted corn or flour, but I never got them. Thank you again for the owner's reponse! Constructive criticism is what make a business great!
I had previously came to eat here before because the first time I came I had a burrito which was very delicious . Yesterday I came again On 5/17/23 to eat again , a blonde headed older lady attended me “very nice” lady. I asked her do you speak English or Spanish? She told me she spoke Spanish, so I started speaking Spanish to her I order the same burrito which I asked her to add sour cream cheese, and do not add rice. She asked me if I wanted a wet burrito? I said no I want a regular burrito with that salsa inside the burrito. So as I was waiting. They finally brought my burrito the burrito had the beans on the outside on the side and also rice on the side which I didn’t order , I was like do I have to have to open the burrito and put the beans inside myself? and I told the lady I didn’t want the rice so she took the plate back to remake the burrito. Finally my burrito they brought it to me as I started to eat there was no cream. There was no cheese as I ordered and I was very hungry so I was halfway into the burrito and I was trying to get the waitress attention, and finally when I got her attention I told her they didn’t add the cream and cheese and she told me “but you ate half of the burrito already” of course I’m very hungry so she told me they were not going to charge me for the cream and the cheese that wasn’t added . Well, the meaning to this , is it very hard to understand to take an order to make a burrito to have a happy customer? If you have people who do not understand or know how to take orders from customers, you should not have them working there. Anyhow, I know this place has good food, but I will not return again, since they can’t take a basic order of making a burrito, I mean the food is good but I don’t need to settle for less I will not return to this place again
Honestly, not great. I had the Huevos Rancheros with Red Beef and it was so salty. Ironically, the beans that came as a side needed salt. I also got a cup of the Green Pozole, and while that was better, it had a strange synthetic flavor to it, like it'd been cooked in a pot with dishwasher detergent residue. It was faint, but noticeable. Service was nice. Our server was kind but the whole team came and checked on our table. The atmosphere was okay, albeit, a bit small. All in all, I wouldn't come here again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Very disappointed in my dinner 08/28. I’ma regular who orders their mole almost once a week with my family. However tonight I’m my to go order I decided to try something new by ordering their chicken burrito. Which comes with lettuce, rice, chicken, pico, and chipotle cream. I asked for my burrito to not have Pico but add cheese and to my discovery my burrito only had rice and chicken.
I've been here for food before, never tried breakfast. today I made it a point to dine in for breakfast and they weren't open, sign posted stated 8:45am. No problem waited, but seemed they were rushed and non welcoming, no problem sat down with the wife, and the waitress said "you have to sit in a small table because of the crowd. The place was empty.....lol That was it, done will never be back again. We went to Jenny's off of telegraph, breakfast was amazing there! The good in all this, found great Mexican bread and oatmeal drink a fews doors away from this place, will definitely be back there for more bread!
Food was average, the Chile relleno burrito came with a side order of beans and rice, but I never ordered these two sides. The machaca included only refried beans, but no rice. This place needs to have some uniformality with their food orders, this way customers know what to expect and not be charged for a side of rica and beans on top of their burrito order.
We were excited to eat here however, once we got here it went down hill pretty quickly. We waited awhile to get a table cleaned for us. It wasn't that busy for a lunch crowd. We finally sat down just to be waiting 15 minutes and no one to attend to us. The lady who sat us down at our table was taking orders of customers who walked in after us. After 20 minutes and not even a courtesy glass of water we walked out. The staff looked lost and confused.
I went in the restaurant at about 6:30 yesterday (Friday), and asked for a take out menu. After I decided what I wanted, I flagged down a waitress to place the order. Whereupon, I was told it would be 1-1.5 hours to get it. I was dumbfounded, and she verified this with the owner or manager. Is there any reason in the whole world why I should ever return here? No food is worth that kind of NS wait!!!
I come here maybe once a month, we went recently on Saturday morning early the place was empty they told us to sit where we wanted so we did. Then they told us to move from table we were at to a smaller one. Smaller tables are tiny barely room for 2 plates of food, I spilled my drink last time so we wanted bigger table. They were rude and refused to let us stay at the table we were at even tho it was empty. They would rather make patrons who are already there to support them leave "in case" larger party came. The place was empty so I'm confused and mad. We left and will never give them business again. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN ZUMAYAS.
The atmosphere of this place is cozy, feels like a restaurant in Mexico. Very friendly and attentive staff. Unfortunately, the food wasn't great. Spouse had the huevos rancheros with red sauce and a small bowl of green pozole. The sauce and eggs were really salty, while the side of beans were under seasoned. The green pozole had a soapy aftertaste, probably from not rinsing the pot they used. He was only able to eat half his plate. I had the red pozole and spent the first few minutes scooping out as much fat as I could. The meat was really soft, but the broth was somewhat salty and couldn't taste other seasonings. Gave up on the pozole as it had a really porky aftertaste. The only redeeming part on my dish were the corn tortillas that tasted like they were homemade. Really wish their cook(s) would taste their food as they're making it.
For the past sixty or so years I have eaten at more Mexican restaurants then I can count. This place will certainly not be on my, go to, or recommendation list. The beans and rice both lack flavor. The rice is like pilaf not Mexican. The price is standard but portions lacking. Tortillas to thick & break. Today as usual something was missing or wrong. I ordered carnitas plate and got a Chile Verde plate. Found this out after I got home. It was to late snd cold to go back so I ate it. All the above prompted this review. I would not have given any stars but had to for the review.
We went on a Saturday for pozole & when I went to the counter to pay my bill the owner the older woman dark hair was annoyed that she had to put her cell phone down & attend to me.She did it rudely & carelessly and never even looked my way or say a word to me.Put my change on the counter & back to her phone. It might even stop me from going plus so many bad reviews. Not how you treat paying customers lady.To top it off my wife said TY to a younger blond waitress & she just turned her head as if we were annoying her.Rudest staff ever.Might be our last time supporting that business.
My wife and I have been coming here for years. Weve even brought family on special occasions. Recently moved an hour away and came back about 6 months ago. I'm sad to sad to say that we were disappointed in the food. And now we are here today and sorry again to say that the food was terrible!! We were in the area it was a full house so decided to take out and eat in the car. The enchiladas were so cold the cheese was nothing but a big clump!! My Chile relleno looked like a Chile revuelto A mess!! Now having to go spend $$ somewhere else!!!
I wrote down the total and left a $6 tip (which accumulated to the total I wrote down)but 4 days later the tip was altered to $9 and processed after my visit. That is not a point of sale mistake. When I raised the issue, the owner dismissed it as “measly,” boasted that he was well off and didn’t need the money, blamed his own mother for entering the tip, and responded emotionally and unprofessionally (screenshots attached). This was never about the money. It’s about integrity, ethical billing, and how a business handles legitimate concerns. Check your receipts carefully.
Came in when it was empty, they did not want to seat me because I was party of 1. They said I had to sit in a small corner. That’s horrible! Plus disgusting smell when walking in! Don’t come here, save your money and eat somewhere else.
