this was our first time trying japanese food and we stumbled upon this place. we ordered miso ramen and shrimp fried rice with a strawberry smoothie and pepsi. it was a good price and good service. when we tried the food we were amazed by the taste it tasted so good. overall everything was good the vibe, service, and food were all amazing. we will come back.
We’ve ordered from Hokkaido Cafe many times but decided to dine in this time. The food was fantastic. Favorite appetizers were crispy chicken and edamame. And you can never go wrong with the sushi and the ramen. There are so many different combinations you’d have to just keep coming back to try them all - which we plan to do. The tonkotsu and shoyu broth options are our favorites. Highly recommend!
We have ordered out here 3 times. For the first time we actually stopped in and dined there. The service was amazing, the sushi is fresh and professionally prepared. The ramen is flavorful and I found myself making noises everytime I took a bite. They have many food options, and everything is customizable to your liking. It has quickly become our favorite spot in the area. Highly recommend the spicy Tonkotsu ramen with steak. We will be returning.
BEST ramen bowl in WNY. PERIOD. This restaurant has ruined every other ramen/boba restaurant for me. The food is absolutely fantastic, the boba is delicious, and the people who work here are so polite and kind! Love this place and will be back many more times!
I love it here, their sweet potato rolls are so good. They are tempura so the warm sweet potato has that crunch and combined with the sweet eel sauce is it like a dessert. Vegetable, california, and avocado rolls are also my top favorite here. We had a party of about ten one time, and there was a large mobile order happening at the same time and we got a few dishes that were meant to go to the mobile order so it is definitely better to come in a group of four or less people.
We came across this nice small Japanese joint while driving past it. Loved the sushi, and the beef salmon hibachi rice. The serving was big and spicy. We also tried the Ramen. The prices were a bit on the pricey side, but given that there is not a lot of Japanese options in town. Along with the hibachi, we got a side of vegetables. The sauce on it was so goood, we kept having more.
Very friendly service. I walked in a bit uncomfortable with what I was going to order. The friendly service changed that right away. I wasn't rushed and even was able to ask for something not on the menu. I got the UB roll, volcano roll and the food was super fresh and outstanding. We also got the ramen which is awesome as well. We will be back and I recommend to anyone. Likely the best sushi I have had in Buffalo.
Coming from NYC where sushi/poke spots are of abundance, I was skeptical when someone suggested this spot for lunch. I got the bowl with 2 protein, hubby got their 3 roll lunch special, and we got chicken hibachi to share. For drinks we got passion fruit tea - I love that they put pieces of actual passion fruit in the drink but wayyyy to much syrup. It was too sweet for me (keep in mind that I’m the type of person that gets tea without sugar - so you might enjoy the sweetness!) We ordered online and it was easy to navigate. I was disappointed with how many toppings we can get - I’m used to getting 8+ or unlimited in NYC. HOWEVER, they gave a hefty amount of the 4 toppings and the amount they give in the entire bowl is very filling. For protein I got their spicy tuna and salmon. The salmon pieces were large/chunky and fresh - the pieces I get in NYC are about half the size, so this was a nice surprise! The spicy tuna was good, but is pre seasoned, so with the dressing it gets a bit salty - I would just get tuna next time. For the 3 rolls, everything was delicious - the rice on the sushi was nice and thin. Hibachi chicken’s sauce leaked everywhere on the way home - despite the mess, it was also really good and came with a mix of veggies. All in all, a great quick, sushi spot and would def go back when I’m in Buffalo!
Came back after they had some renovations. How they turned this place around since they started is amazing. I had a great experience when it first opened. I had an even better experience today. The place is so nicely done. I really like that they have great food choices and sell boba with that wasn’t there before. The quality of the food is amazing and so are the workers. Had a Taro milk tea, the taro tasted very authentic. It’s not like cheap powder other places use. The atmosphere here is very nice. It’s a wonderful place. A secret restaurant for Buffalo.
We’ve moved from Seattle where Japanese community big and there are a good choice of great sushi places. Hokkaido Sushi is our place to go now to get fresh delicious sushi in Wiliamsville area. There is an option with brown rice which we loved! The chef is very friendly and always greets with the smile. Also, I’ve been ordering their sushi through app Beyond Menu “to go” and my order was always ready pretty fast. Highly recommended!
I wanted to try a restaurant that had takoyaki, so my boyfriend and I stopped here for lunch. It was overall a solid, good experience. Ordering was a little bit confusing at first but wasn't too bad once figuring it out. It was very quiet here when we went and the decor is what I'd call an asian-inspired modern style. Maybe a little bit TOO quiet, but that could just be me. It wasn't the absolute best I've had, but it's definitely worth a go around if you're in the mood for some good Japanese food.
Ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box with fried rice. The fried rice was bizarre. Came half empty with under cooked long grain rice but burnt. Japanese fried rice is usually cooked with short grain rice. Chicken teriyaki was missing the sauce and overcooked on one side. Really bizarre and disappointed.
Ordered food online, the taste was alright but the portion sizes in terms of what we paid was not worth it (paid about 44$ total), will probably not order again. Overall, the chicken tempura sushi was good, but the calamari tasted and smelled like rubber. Wouldn't pay for the calamari no matter how little it cost.
I have been a loyal customer for a while now and have only had a few problems. But I drawn the line on hair in my food. We ordered 2 hibachi dinners and requested fried rice as our side. I was disgusted to find a hair in the rice. I took a picture and immediately called. The owner refused to refund our dinner. They offered free rice or $5. That's not okay.
I ordered pickup for the first time here and they said 20 minutes. I showed up on time and they did not even have my order started, I was told a few minutes so I sat down. I watched as they served my to go order to people dining in, obviously confused when nobody took the items. I had to tell them they messed up and they just slid my katsu into a to go container instead of remaking it. They then had to remake my other two items that they already served to other people. I sat there for 30 minutes watching my katsu curry getting soggier and colder by the minute on their countertop. No refund, no sense of urgency to remedy the mistake. By the time they finished my order the katsu curry was basically leftovers being plated, replated, and just allowed to sit. Food was okay, would’ve probably tasted better not needing a microwave, but for the unprofessional service alone I wouldnt recommend.
Ordered the Chicken Hibachi, fried rice, and gyoza through Uber Eats. When I was handed the bag, it was DRIPPING in grease. No wonder, as when I opened up the chicken hibachi, it was SWIMMING in watery grease. Not sauce, which wasn't included like every other Japanese restaurants does, but grease. The fried rice had a gritty texture and tasted fishy, that was thrown away after two bites. The gyoza were barely cooked and tasted of raw dough. Combine that with the low low price of $30 and I can confidently say this is the worst lunch I have ever had.
