Came to this cute spot for an early morning breakfast and I was not disappointed! Sherry was my server and she was so kind and helpful, as well as vey knowledgeable about the menu. I will be back for that veggie omelette and the biscuit!
This place is awesome, i came in for lunch and my waitress Liz helped me make up my mind on my order. She was so amazing, she was on top of it all, from speed to knowledge to friendliness to all around best service i’ve had in years. The place was spotless, the food was delicious and the service was spectacular. Definitely recommend this place to all, and ask for Liz.
The food was great, loved our server Sam who has reddish hair, she was constantly checking on us and making sure everything was good and up to par, definitely will go again as long as she is working!
Went with my family, and we felt welcome as soon as we walked in the doors. The food was delicious and came to our table fast. Our server, Yesse was amazing. She was friendly, friendly professional and very polite. It was amazing. my family, and we felt welcome. The food was awesome. Our server, Yesse was amazing it's very professional and very respectful. She made us feel very welcome. We're definitely coming back. Frank checked us out was professional and polite as well. My family and I are most definitely coming back!
Liz was our server and she was fantastic. We had a party of 20 and she took care of us and made us feel at home. Would recommend black bear for all that what a wonderful experience.
Can I just say that black bear has done it again! We were visiting for a company retreat and on a whim we decided to go to the diner. They gave us the entire back room and we had exceptional service. Liz was our lead waiter and her smile and customer service lit up the room. I will be stopping at Black Bear Diner when we return!
Liz was our server for a very big party and she did an amazing job taking care of us!
Leilani was an excellent server. Always smiling, happy and kind while carrying a heavy customer load.
Came here for breakfast this morning with my wife. Had a wonderful experience! The food and service was great! Sierra greeted us with a smile and enthusiasm!
Had an amazing lunch with my daughter and her bestie! Our server Sherri was amazing! So friendly and attentive!
We come in most weekends for lunch at the Black Bear Diner in Yucca Valley, and Jessica is always outstanding. She stays on top of things, checks our table without hovering, and treats customers and staff with genuine courtesy. She greets everyone with a smile and keeps things positive—even on busy days. We’ve had poor service here when she wasn’t our waitress, which only makes her consistency stand out more. Huge shout-out to Jessica—thank you for the hard work and for making us feel welcome every time.
Liz was great! Great service and the food came fast and was delicious. Highly recommend
Black Bear Diner is one of my family’s favorite places to dine! Always friendly staff, food is always cooked perfect and served quickly. The portion sizes always amaze me and we always end up having to take some home with us. The Chicken Caesar Melt is my all-time favorite. Thank you for always being fast, friendly, and having terrific food!
Had a tasty pancake brunch yesterday. Liz did a great job serving our big chaotic table!
Liz was fast while taking care of our huge party, the food was great and she took care of us
Sierra was an amazing server all around!! and really brought the joy in black bear diner when welcoming in the guest!!
We had breakfast onThursday. It was excellent. The waitress was very friendly & pleasant. My husband had the big bacon breakfast. I had the California omelet. Delicious and big portions that you can take home and eat later. Also the General manager Frank, was also a great guy!
Really great atmosphere and had great service from Liz. The quantity of food here is huge for the price. Very fun family style atmosphere.
Great restaurant and food, my server Elizabeth definitely made the experience even better with the attention she provided.
My husband & I have been coming here about 1-2x a month since 2023. We're from WA state & both grew up 'in the sticks' so it's nice to get a 'country-feel' atmosphere every now & then. The waitresses are fast (even when they're short staffed), the food is fantastic no matter what I order & their acknowledgement when someone is standing at the cash register to be seated or to leave is attentive. I dont know the server's name that served us this morning but she remembered my husband & I, seeing that we came in with our newborn & she remembered seeing me last pregnant. That made me feel really good, that I was seen, & kind of shocked at the same time. She works on the floor with professionalism but is able to be personable & quick with her tables.
I had the best time here. Me and my friends all dressed up in costumes and our waitress Sherri was so fun and nice in helping us. The food was so super oober yummy. The even fixed the lemonade machine for us to have lemonade. Will come back again!
Having never eaten at this restaurant, the food is flavorful, especially the blackened salmon (my new favorite) and meatloaf. I have had my dinners here all week. Our server Jessica was impeccable, attentive, and extremely polite. Thank you very much Jessica. We will be back when we’re back in town and we will be sitting in your section of the restaurant. Thanks again.
Stopped for Dinner We were warmly greeted by Ms. LEILANI, sat down then dinner crowd came. in. She had Managed Complete control of Dinning Room greeting everyone with a smile, she was a Host and Waitress Server. We Found out was from Hawaii! Which I was too. It was then i realized That is was the Aloha spirited accompanied her smile. Mahalo nui loa. MS. LEILANI.
I brought my family there for first time. Sherri made us feel very welcoming went over and beyond to make us feel at home. She also prepared up special dessert.
We ended up here when most other places. And let me tell you, they gave us a lot of food. Our host/waiter/cashier was pretty and funny. The food was amazing. Everything was seasoned just right and it didn't bot take long. Most definitely would go back once we visit again.
Not gonna lie for the price on the food and drinks it was totally worth it and the best part you get a whole pie not just a slice of it either. Great customer service from our server didn’t get his name but he was a very tall bald guy, had tattoos, really sweet personality, and very professional. Also shout out to Jessica too for checking on us as well you were awesome! I loved the way everything was decorated honestly something different for sure reminds us a lot like big bear in a way. Would I go back? Oh definitely 👏👏👏
My first time at this restaurant, which had recently opened in the old Sizzler building. The inside has been remodeled, so it no longer looks like the old Sizzler. I like the new decor and layout better. The service was great, they kept checking on how we were doing. The food was great tasting. We had breakfast in the afternoon, so it was nice that breakfast items are available all day. I really liked how friendly the staff were. I was visiting from out of town. I had never heard of this restaurant. I brought the paper menu home to show my spouse. We were happy to see that there are several locations near where we live, so we will definitely be visiting again.
Update: I went again - and this time with my boyfriend and for a casual birthday brunch. Again, the food was SO GOOD. the service was AMAZING. We loved the decor and just everyone we interacted with here was so kind and helpful. This will definitely be a regular stop for us moving forward. Go! Original: I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was surprisingly empty. Which honestly was great for me haha. Service was quick and helpful. Food was yummy and I even ordered some to go since I was staying at an Airbnb and could just reheat it the next morning. Really affordable. Overall, highly recommend!
Outstanding service from our waitress Jessica! She was working by herself and still managed to get our order in and food out quickly while helping everyone else in the restaurant! Food was very good and freshly made!
Best sit down place to have a meal in all of Yucca Valley! Beginning with Sam W., our waitress of choice, who we ask for by name to be our server, to the fresh and delicious food, to the prices, no where else can even compare. The portions are generous, the dining area is impeccable, and my personal favorite, the salad arrives cold, and stays cold until I leave.. Thank you Black Bear for all you do to make our dining experience unforgettable, and thank you Sam W., for your great service and warm personality :)
We were passing thru and wanted to try dinner at black bear diner because we have always had breakfast. I had the new chicken ceaser melt and my wife had the Jr chicken fried steak with mash and veggies l. Both of our dishes were excellent and delicious l as always.
We had the Volcano- omg piled high indeed. It was delicious , crispy bacon to my perfection. Our server, Sam W( blonde Sam) was super! So pleasant & exemplifies customer service, she was aware of our needs& requests. And what a smile! We hope to get her when we come again. Thx Big Bear!!
The drinks were cold a fresh and food was hot and delicious. The waitress was nice and efficient. Truly a wonderful experience.
Just AWESOME 👏. The service and the food was absolutely phenomenal. Management, you need to give Daniel a raise. He was phenomenal and he made the experience exceptional. The food was yummy. We drove up from Rancho Mirage just to see what this place was like. It didn’t disappoint. We will come back.
Sam was such a beautiful person for us, she went above and beyond for us. Very kind hearted and loving and fast service as well. She wanted to make sure every time that we were okay and checked up on us and refilled drinks. The tri tip was delicious and just very thankful for the beautiful service. What a beautiful way to start a weekend. Thank you again.
Nice place, food was great. Went in on a Thursday, around 2pm, wasn't busy but the service was not all that great, they were out of a few items on the menu, as for some sides, the pies which was the whole reason we went to eat their I so wanted the chocolate pie, next time I guess
Liz was a great server. We had a very big party and she was extremely efficient and kind!
My wife and I had breakfast there today, Sharri was our waitress, what a blessing, she was very attentive and welcoming. We felt like we were visiting family. Great service and experience
Liz was a fantastic server. We got our great food fast, and her service was excellent.
Had a great experience at Black Bear Diner in Yucca Valley! The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and our server Liz was especially wonderful friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Liz was our server and the service was amazing! We came here with a group after our previous dining option fell through but this place was way better for us. Generous portions; they nail all the diner classics. Our server Liz was super responsive and quick on her feet. Overall great service, fast delivery, and delicious
Coming from Baltimore, I must say that the food here was excellent. The service was prompt, Liz and Sierra were friendly and very polite. If I'm ever in town again, I will definitely be coming back. Thanks again for an excellent breakfast.
Had another amazing breakfast @ Black Bear Diner in Yucca Valley, CA- Perfect food Perfect hostess - Sierra Perfect server- Liz All 5 star event- for my morning off to a positive start!! I highly recommend!! Regards, L Rico Richardson
Had Liz as my server...as I did last time I was here. She is hard working, knows the menu by heart, multitasks and makes every patron feel special. Im a breakfast/diner person so I find Black Bear Diner perfect for me. My food was straight forward and perfectly prepared. Note: Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley are small towns and, as such, have small employment pools. Always best to be patient and kind when visiting here especially on Holidays. ✌🏼☮️
Travelled on Christmas Day and found this location to be open with no wait. Unlike the two chains always open having 2 hour wait times. We had never thought about this Chain for breakfast but it will be on our priority list going forward. Food was excellent, Service despite being unexpectedly busy was excellent. Everyone worked as though he or she was serving family at a holiday meal. Coffee was remarkably good.
Black Bear Diner in Yucca Valley is a cozy spot with a welcoming atmosphere. The menu has a lot of classic comfort food options, and the portions are generous. I had the chicken fried steak and it was delicious! The service was attentive and quick, even during busy hours. The rustic decor adds to the charm. Sometimes there’s a short wait, but it’s worth it for a hearty meal. Great place for breakfast or dinner with family.
I had a great experience at Black Bear Diner. The food came out fresh, hot, and full of that classic comfort-food flavor they’re known for. Our server, Emily, was the highlight of the visit. She was warm, attentive, and on top of everything without ever hovering. Drinks stayed full, food came out exactly as ordered, and she checked in just the right amount. She was friendly, quick, and genuinely made us feel taken care of. It’s rare to get service that feels both efficient and personal, but Emily nailed it. Definitely recommend asking for her if you stop by!
I was greeted fast the service was amazing. There was so many options I didn’t know what to get. So I asked my waitress Liz and she recommended the California bacon Benedict With loaded hash brown. Which was 100% on spot!!! I didn’t wait long for my food. Liz checked up on me and my buddy frequently even though she was very busy. 10/10 would recommend!!!
My son and I happened to be their first customers this morning. We were greeted with a smile and left Stuffed to the brim with a few to go containers lol. Such a lovely establishment, with a fun Black Bear, rustic cabin themed ambiance for all from our Babies to our Silver Sneakers to enjoy 😉
Black Bear Diner is a big, welcoming place that’s open late, which makes it super convenient. The prices are reasonable, and the food quality is generally very good. The slow-cooked beef sandwich was tasty, and we enjoyed our meal overall. The chicken tenders were a little dry, and the crispy coating was a bit thick and seemed to absorb too much oil but overall, it was a good experience and a nice spot for a relaxed dinner.
This place is not only super cute with the whole black bear theme!! We loved it! We just moved into town and are exploring local places to eat. This is a blessing of a place for us. We will definitely be returning. We had the chicken n waffles and the Southern scramble. Both absolutely delicious. Jessica was running the entire show and was graceful, calm and super friendly. Super great vibes from her!
We ordered a Benedict and a French toast, and both were absolutely delicious! Our server, Liz, was especially kind and attentive, which made the experience even better. This is the second Black Bear Diner we’ve visited, and I can confidently say you’ll get one of the most amazing breakfasts here every time. Highly recommended!
We had such a great experience at the Black Bear Diner in Yucca Valley thanks to our server, Liz. From the moment we sat down, she was warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly. She checked in often without being overbearing, made sure our drinks stayed full, and helped us with recommendations from the menu. What really stood out was her positive attitude—she made us feel welcome and taken care of, even though the restaurant was busy. Everything came out just right, and Liz made the whole meal more enjoyable with her kindness and professionalism. Thank you, Liz, for making our visit such a pleasant one! We’ll definitely be back.
We went to Black Bear Diner this morning for the first time with the family and had the best service and breakfast we’ve had in a very long time. Our waitress was Liz and she recommended the strawberry waffle which was mouth watering. We will be making this spot out #1 breakfast spot in town. We walked in and were greeted and sat right away. From beginning to end it was a wonderful experience. We love it and we lived our server Liz! Thank you 🙏🏻
We had Sherri and Sam as servers this time and they are AMAZING. I will come back just for them. Portions are huge, and the stuffed French toast is ridiculously good. We tried the Bigfoot country fried steak too, and it was fabulous. Perfectly crispy. Fresh squeezed orange juice really impressed us. All in all, a delightful breakfast. Update: went over here again and once again Sherri brought the magic. Beth was really lovely as well. Had a veggie omelet with French toast and fruit, absolutely wonderful. Double update! Breakfast for dinner with our favorite server Sherri! The pancakes were PERFECT and the country fried steak and eggs is always so good!
Very good atmosphere, nice and accommodating waitress. Menu has good selection, but if you want dinner, go after 4pm. Prices high, but everywhere is these days.
Good 'diner style' food with a fun bear-themed atmosphere. Be sure to check out the selection of bear merchandise at the front checkout.
The Black Bear diner is a fave whenever we see it during our travels, and this is no different. The coffee is perfectly made. As usual, I had the chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs and biscuits with gravy. I chose to have the hash brown potatoes this time and was not happy with the barely cooked potatoes but the manager was really nice to offer me a complimentary dessert to make up for it. I declined but he insisted, so I selected the chocolate cake. Let me tell you, the chocolate cake is so so good. I normally don't order choc cake as they tend to be sickeningly sweet but this one is the perfect sweetness, rich dark chocolatey goodness with layers of ganache. I am so glad the manager insisted I have dessert. Now I know what to get when I visit again. Thank you!
Haven't been here in over a year. My parents were in town so we decided to give it another shot...I am glad we did. This place had done a complete 180. The food was amazing! Service was a bit slow but the place was nearly full. Definitely going back...they took over the top pancake spot for me.
Friendly, welcoming staff. Large portions and *no charge* for an extra plate so I could share with Mom. 😁 Biscuits & corn muffins are huge! The scrambled eggs were a little overcooked, but they just opened, so I'm sure that will be corrected. They do warn you that everything is freshly cooked and that the wait for your meal may be longer than you normally experience. That's fine by us. Hot & fresh is wonderful. ☮️👍🏼
My friend and I have been having lunch here for a couple of months. We have having the cheeseburger basket lunch special. We both asked for the special again yesterday. My bill at the was so much higher than usual. I asked about it and was told we don’t have that special anymore. I feel we should have been told when we ordered the special was no longer going on. We are both seniors and on fixed incomes. This hurts. We will find a different place for lunch.
Our food was delicious. Exactly how we ordered it and taste was great. There was only one waitress and it was busy, but she did great. Very helpful and fast. I wish I would have caught her name. The time was around 11 am.
Walked in for a call in order and walked a full 10 minutes to talk to anyone. Then she just went off doing other things for another 10 minutes. Finally appeared with a big of Luke Warm food.
Came to eat breakfast this morning, and the waitress not once came back to see if we need refills or anything, then trying to get her attention so we can get to go boxes was very difficult, then after we finally got to go boxes had to wait 20 minutes just waiting for her to bring check and desert to go. I have been here a couple times and it went perfect, but the ladys this morning were very lazy and not caring to check on you or anything, day and time was Friday at 10:05am
I have been a customer for blackbear diner in Yucca Valley for over a year recently The takeout food has been bad. Has been getting smaller portions and did not have sides that came with my meal. Very disappointed I think I will stop going to blackbear
I have this franchise back home and we ordered from that location a lot. This was the first time we were able to actually sit inside of the restaurant while on our travels and the service by the waitress was pretty decent. She did have a lot of tables, although the quality of food and other words was barely edible. We should have just went to the IHOP across the parking lot.
I recently visited Black Bear Diner in Yucca Valley, CA, and unfortunately, it was not the best experience. I was excited to try their BBQ burger, but it fell short of my expectations. Before ordering, I specifically asked the waitress if they put Thousand Island dressing on the burger, as I really don't like it. She assured me that it wouldn't be included, but when my burger arrived, it was soggy and, to my dismay, topped with Thousand Island. When I brought this to the waitress's attention, she denied that there was any Thousand Island on it. The burger cost around $20, and I felt it was a waste. The sweet potato fries were decent, but the burger really ruined my experience. To make matters worse, we had to pay the full amount for the meal without any corrections from the waitress. I believe it was more of a miscommunication with our server, Beth, rather than the burger itself. I hope this was just a one-time issue, as I'd like to give the diner another chance in the future.
We'd been here twice in two days to try different meals. The portions for the pricing is decent, I was pleased with my food...but service is inconsistent & leaves a lot to be desired, especially the hostesses. As well as short staffed with lines of people waiting & tables not being cleared. But, my MAIN CONCERN is that I had a conversation with my waitress the first time we sat to eat, mentioning I was pescatarian/vegetarian. When we got our food, I got the fish & chips (👌) & asked for ranch for my fries...I ate a good amount of that ranch that night & got sick afterwards not knowing exactly why. The next day we eat there, we got burgers, with a veggie patty for me (👌) & again asked for ranch for our fries. We ask what the chunky bits were in the ranch....it was BACON. Homemade BACON ranch. NO ONE DISCLOSED THAT THE RANCH WAS BACON RANCH WHEN I CLEARLY STATED I WAS VEGETARIAN ‼️ I got sick from having their BACON RANCH! TWICE I stated I'm vegetarian, TWICE I was given bacon ranch! COME ON GUYS, WHAT THE HELL?! Their carelessness could cost someone more than just getting sick, like I did. Beware.
We ate on a Saturday evening, restaurant wasn't too busy but they seemed really under staffed. Wait staff did their best with how busy they were. Food was great.
The restaurant never has enough cooks or waitresses. The food is usually good, but the service is slow (only one waitress). Only one section of the restaurant is open with long wait for tables. Too bad if you want their great chicken pot pie, the waitress makes it and the wait is over 45 minutes. Could be more organized.
Sadly, this location is going downhill. The first thing I noticed when we parked was that their county inspection score dropped to a “B.” The last time we were there was about a year ago and we can see a big change. Broken shutters in the window, trash on the floor, right next to the dust pan. The men’s restroom had paper towels balled up all over the floor. There was a sign that read, “If our restroom needs attention, please let the staff know.” REALLY!? Isn’t it the manager who should be checking? When our server came to the table she said, “I’m sorry, but I am the only one working.” (We didn’t even say anything) No greeting or anything to make us feel welcomed. She didn’t do a bad job. The service was ok. They have cut back on the portions of food and it isn’t as good tasting as it used to be. Not to mention, a $47 bill for breakfast, when we can go next door and get the same items for $6 each ($12 + tax). So, less than half the price and for better food with an “A” rating. I want to say positive things about Black Bear, Diner, but it was not the case.
The kitchen was out of so many things, our party of 3 had to change our order 3 times. Our party of 3 totaled over $80, which was wildly over priced for the food we got.
Not enough help. The cook brought out our food, meatloaf was cool not hot, took a long time. Then was ignored by the front to pay the bill. Bad experience and this is a tourist town. Will not be back.
my wife and I eat here in the afternoon. The place wasn’t busy nobody was at the front to get us seated it took about 10 minutes for us to sit down. When we sat down our server took forever to get our drinks just our drinks! The food took even longer to come out. However the food was delicious. Maybe they were under staffed idk…
Ordered the open face hot turkey plate, plate came and was told sorry out of mashed potatoes. Sent it back ordered a beef brisket melt,it arrived limp, with soggy bread. Ate the beef bread was uneatable. This place sucks.
Waited 10 minutes just to get our drinks and 30 minutes without getting our order taken. We just left. Morongo Valley Cafe is way better.
Place was half empty but there was a line waiting to be seated when we walked in. Should have read the tea leaves and left, but no. Asked for water no ice, but server clearly forgot by the time she got back to us with it and to take our order. Then we Sat for several minutes when she came back and said “kitchen said they are out of onion rings”, I picked another side. 15-20 minutes later she tells us they are out of chicken pot pie. We should have been mostly through eating by then. We only had 2 entrees and they couldn’t fulfill either one. Went down the street where they immediately seated us and got the water right (left a full pitcher too!). Took our order immediately, and it was out in less than 10 minutes. I won’t be back to this BB Diner again.
Hello, I visited this location on 2-15-26. After a long day at Joshua Tree, we were very hungry so went to this restaurant. It literally took 10 minutes for someone to come to the front to seat us. The place seems seriously understaffed. The waitress was nice and i don't fault her for the issues there. But we ordered our food they had so many sides out of stock. Then you order a side and minutes later they come back and say they don't have that side. We said we don't eat pork and we get green beans with bacon that look straight out of a can. We ordered baked potato, minutes later were out of baked potato. Then decide to order sweet potato fries, minutes later were out of sweet potato fries. I'm like wow, did someone forget to go grocery shopping or not put in their instacart order. The food was mediocre at best. Like honestly i have no idea what they are trying to accomplish here. Making good food seems like an afterthought. Yea after i left i was like never again will i go to a Black Bear Diner. sad, i have been a few times over the years. But it seems like they just don't care anymore. I should have save myself $65 and waited till i got home to eat.
This place deserves 0 stars in all categories. We have given this location 3 attempts- each trip being worse than the last! This time, was unexcusable- the booth we were seated in was dirty. Food all over the seats and floor. The waitress wouldn't stand still long enough to hear our complete order without running off. She did a lot of heavy breathing and eye rolling at everyone in our party and ee watched her do the same at other tables. We asked for coffee 3 times. We waited for 20 minutes for coffee. No coffee, no napkins- just attitude. At one point we attempted to get her attention she just kept walking. No communication and just beyond rude. We got up and left. No drinks, no food, nothing! What a horrible experience....AGAIN! We have been to other locations in Las Vegas, etc. Phenomenal experiences there. That is why we have given it 3 honest attempts! This location is a HUGE disappointment and needs to be addressed before it's ruins the reputation of the brand.
Placed on line order places a 60 order 2 steaks, baked potatoes, salad . Order arrived meat is tough, no baked potato (order was placed at 4:25 pm called when I recieved food and told they ran out of baked potatoes they dont even start serving baked potatoes until 4:00 ) the mashed potatoes had no flavor , salad had no cretins as menu stated. Really unhappy with this meal portions for a 30 dollar plate were small . Very disappointed do t thibk I want to go back
