Maykadeh Persian Restaurant Alameda Reviews
I’ve been to this place for 2 times, actually before and during the pandemic. It was long time ago where I didn’t even give a shzt about writing meal reviews. Anyway, the experience was very nice, can’t compare with others coz I didn’t have lots of experience on Persian food. Just to share something good when you feel good and the food actually very tasty. I hope to see all these good restaurants being able to survive and continue to serve their good food to us! Long live good food!
Phenomenal food and phenomenal service. Some of the best faloodeh I’ve ever had
This is some of the best food in the city, was here twice before, love it! The servers treated me well and the food was unbelievable, you can’t miss this place
Best Persian food Great service and quality It’s a 10/10
I wish I could rate this extremely valuable Persian restaurant with more than 5 stars. Personally, I cannot resist Ghormeh Sabzi at Maykadeh restaurant. It is one of the most popular meals in Persian cuisine. The taste is amazing. Only those who are familiar with Persian cuisine can understand what I am talking about. Maykadeh restaurant is the oldest Persian restaurant in San Francisco and the entire USA. The manager of this precious Persian restaurant has been running this business for 43 years. All the staff at this Persian restaurant work tirelessly, almost every day, to ensure their customers enjoy the highest-quality Persian food. Mr. Mahmoud Khossoussi, who is the manager of this restaurant, is a very nice person. He is a true Gem shining in this precious Persian restaurant.
As a Persian, I have high standards when it comes to Persian food, and Maykadeh absolutely delivered. The flavors were incredibly authentic — rich, well-balanced, and exactly how Persian food is meant to taste. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, from the perfectly cooked meats to the fragrant rice and stews that tasted truly homemade. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service made the experience even better. It’s rare to find a place that captures the soul of Persian cuisine so genuinely, and Maykadeh does it effortlessly. This is the kind of restaurant you proudly bring friends to when you want to show them what real Persian food is. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely be back.
Honestly the most amazing restaurant I’ve ever been to. The food was phenomenal (lamb chops) shishilik and koobideh and the mastokhiar!!!! The drinks were made with love and customer service from Rolando was amazing!!!! Music playing made you want to get up and dance ❤️ the owner was the greatest of all. I would highly recommend going you’ll enjoy every second of their amazing food and atmosphere!!
I come here once in a while when I get the chance. I really love their Aash appetizer. After Aash, I had ghorme sabzi which was amazing. And of course, I finished with Bastani 😊 I’m full and nourished. I highly recommend. Unfortunately I didn’t take photos of the food, but trust me the food won’t disappoint.
On a weekday evening it was easy to just get seated even for our large group. They were really chill with us. They didn't have as many sauces and dips as I expected but their meats and entrees certainly were awesome. Big portions and delicious flavors. I'd come back. This gives me very classic Persian restaurant vibes. Thanks.
I can’t believe this place has even one review below 5! We ordered Kashke Bademjan, Yogurt with cucumber and Maykadeh Kebab (Barg). I was so obsessed with the last one, I even forgot to take a photo before it was completely gone 🙈 One note tho, if you are trying this cuisine first time in your life, Kashke Bademjan may taste weird. So if you don’t like it, don’t rush to leave a bad review.
The taste of their food is fantastic! The broiled brain in saffron’s sauce was something heavenly delicious, absolutely recommended to anyone who likes lamb’s brain; also, the lamb shank was prepared with a good amount of patience; it just melts in your mouth, and baghala polo was cooked just right not too stiff not too soft making it not only gorgeous but tasty too. The saffron ice cream with cream chips and pistachio, which was precisely the way traditionally made in Iran, was nicely made! Thanks to the chef or chefs, I enjoyed everything, and I highly recommend this restaurant. They may need to improve their service; otherwise, the ambiance is also lovely, with light Persian music in the background.
This place offers authentic Iranian cuisine at standard San Francisco prices. The portions are petite, (perfect for someone who isn’t a big eater) and the quality of the food is excellent. The service was attentive and pleasant. However, I’d probably think twice about returning, mostly due to the parking situation and the overall feel of the area.
Good Persian food, but prices jumped since last time I was there 6 months ago. Hard to believe a side of Shirazi salad or Mast 'o Khiar is now $10 and koobideh is $29! #thankstrump I'll continue to visit Maykadeh when I'm in San Francisco, but I still find better Persian food in southern California.
This restaurant has an amazing atmosphere! However if you are Iranian and wish to have real Iranian food, this is not the best place to go: their koobideh literally smelled like the oil from the metal grill ! Part of it was burnt, it was not well done , the rice was dripping with butter. Baklava was something I never saw nor ate : I can’t even describe what the ingredients were ! This place did not meet my expectations at all
I placed a carryout order for dill lima bean rice, which if at any other restaurant would have no meat unless meat is explicitly requested But for some bizarre reason here this means it's including lamb meat It was very expensive and when I got home after an hour drive I put this away in my vegetarian house to eat later. When open later I was shocked to discover meat and bones. When I called back they gave me a partial credit which was nice but they didn't apologize and they made it like I'm wrong as the customer, as if I had ordered wrong, and told me to specify rice only next time when the whole thing was supposed to be a side dish. This is a very meat-centric restaurant. They only have two stews that can be made into vegetarian options If you're a vegetarian, I would completely skip this place. If you want vegetarian Persian the best I know of is in downtown Walnut Creek where they actually make vegetarian mock chicken and mock beef kebab
When we went to the restaurant, it was quite crowded. Although the waitstaff were not very attentive, it wasn’t too bad. The portion sizes were quite good. However, the surprise of the day was that the servers had added tips for themselves without asking us. You are expected to accept this. I found this quite absurd. Other than that, it’s not a place I would choose to visit again.
The food tasted good, but unfortunately the service was the complete opposite. The staff were unfriendly and constantly rushing, which made the experience unpleasant. On top of that, an 18% gratuity is automatically added regardless of party size, which feels like a mandatory tip and it’s hard to understand why, given the poor level of service! Additionally, the prices on their website and Instagram do not match the prices in the restaurant, which is misleading and gives out incorrect information. I wouldn’t recommend them.
I was trying to think as to how could this restaurant still be in business. We visited this restaurant over thirty years ago and the food was so terrible that we’ve stayed away from it for three decades. Today, we decided to give it another try and unfortunately it reminded us as to why we didn’t want to eat here. Absolutely the worst Persian food we’ve ever had. Now, I realize that the reason this restaurant has remained in business is because there’s hardly any competition. My husband and I each ordered the Cornish hen, his had some green paste on it and mine didn’t. This food must have been cooked either in a pan or oven, which would not qualify for Kabob. Awful flavor, melted butter on the chicken and terrible quality rice, weird tasting “grilled tomato”. No salt on anything, even the yogurt drink. When in San Francisco, even though Lavash Persian restaurant has a smaller menu, that would be a much better option. Sorry, but thirty plus years is too long for a restaurant owner not to improve their food and restaurant.
