Mikaku Albee Square Reviews
I love it here! Small, quaint, and it is a lovely place to go to. Service is quick, good quality food (i love the miso soup and chicken tempura roll!) and staff is hardworking and attentive!
Amazing food. WOW. I am blown away by the fresh fish and phenomenal service. 10/10 amazing price AMAZING FOOD. The best chicken teriyaki I ever had! Also, in my salmon, avocado mango roll. The mango and avocado were absolutely perfect. I’ve been to the finest sushi restaurants in the world, and they can’t even make a roll as good as they did here. I can’t wait to bring my friends and family here
really cute cozy place. i had a great service experience, the servers are direct but take good care of you. fish is fresh and well seasoned (i had spicy tuna roll) would definitely recommend but its small so come early to make sure you get seats. they also have take out available! (also they give really big mugs of hot green tea usually it's smaller at other places) if we lived here we'd be regulars!
I eat sushi all the time on the west coast, but in NYC I’ve struggled to find a place with truly high quality fish for an affordable cost. Earlier this year, I found this place on doordash and now I order from them all the time. Not once have I been disappointed. The prices are amazingly low and the fish is consistently high quality, plus they are very generous with the size of their nigiri. Also— you can never go wrong with their “yellowtail boy.”
Went here for my birthday and enjoyed my experience at this restaurant! Started off with some sake and miso soup, which tasted exactly how they should. Then I decided to get the Natto Ika, it was something new, and it was alright. Not a fan of natto but that's just personal preference, since it has a strong fermented alcohol taste. The chicken udon and sashimi were delicious though. The wait staff checked for vaccination and ID, and they were very attentive to us.
Charming, 25 seat restaurant with budget midweek lunches. We ordered 2 bento boxes and a sashimi& sushi lunch special to share. The miso soup was good. The salad was chilled and tasted really fresh. The sashimi was chilled, fresh & tender. The large sushi pieces (with less rice which is the way I like) was not dressed with wasabi - at least for the salmon pieces. The sizeable salmon teriyaki had a nice grill flavor with a less sweet teriyaki sauce. The tonkatsu was a thin pork cutlet with a deep fried crispy coating and was served with a tangy side of sauce. The service was attentive and water was filled up regularly. On a cold Thursday in December (2024), there was a short line for the few tables.
Mikaku Sushi was a delight. Went there for lunch with some friends and everything besides the salmon from the salmon lunch set tasted pretty good. Generous amount of Unagi for the price point. The sushi was fresh. Chicken katsu was fried perfectly. Can never go wrong with dumplings either. The salmon from the salmon lunch set was a bit dry and flavorless however. They have a good range of options in the menu as well. It’s a little small inside so take-out would be a good options from this place as well. Overall good experience.
Came here for lunch from seeing good reviews on here, but I ended up disappointed. It's not bad, but it's not great either. I ordered a salmon don, the salmon was alright, but the rice was dry and hard. It took a second to get seated, one of the waitresses was just on her phone while we waited to be seated (there were several open tables.) The waitress we did end up getting was really attentive though, and she frequently came to refill our water, take away plates, etc. I think for the price it's fair, but I don't think I'm coming back here.
I travel a lot and eat a LOT of sushi. Unfortunately, I couldn’t eat this sushi. My husband was disappointed as well. We ordered 3 rolls and they just didn’t have any flavor. The protein in each roll was minced up so much that honestly, it felt like we were eating food that had already been chewed up. Service wasn’t that great. We did leave a good tip because that’s just who we are but I wouldn’t eat here if you are like us and eat a lot of sushi/know what good sushi is. We ended up surviving on the desserts. I definitely recommend dessert here :)
I hate giving poor reviews for small restaurants. But food rather tasteless, homemade lemonade tastes chemically. Atmosphere 1 star as ladies were arguing in Japanese at eachother then getting on speaker phone with someone for the entirety of the meal. Should have taken the hint when I sat in the restaurant by myself.
Be careful if you are taking out. They play sneaky game not telling you the size. $42 dollars in total. Just this much. I understand the fried oysters are written on the menu to be 4 pieces. But your specialty roll is not even 6 of them for 16 dollars! I ve seen pictures in the comments. Others got specialty rolls and it was way more than what I got.
