I love this restaurant the food and service are always on point and the prices are great for Soho
The waitress was super kind and caring. The restaurant itself may not look like much but the quality of food is EXCELLENT and inexpensive.
What a great find in Chinatown. Excellent quality sushi. Very well priced. Good service. The teriyaki and tempura dishes are very taste. The beef neganaki appetizer was delicious. If you bring someone who doesn't do sushi, this is a great place for them as well.
Mikaku Sushi is one of the best sushi places I have found in Manhattan and I have tried so many. I had their bento box for $13 and tried two nigiri for $4/piece. The yellowtail was amazing! The salmon in the bento box was incredible too. I would skip the miso soup. The server is awesome too handling the small restaurant and many customers! I love sugarfish and kazunori but their lines are long and quality ranges. Mikaku delivers at that level of quality without crazy lines. Loved here more than Momoya too. Mikaku is a great & fresh sushi place for those trying to find their lunch/dinner spot!!!
Great simple neighborhood sushi !!! They are busy so I am sure fish are fresh
Hidden gem in soho. Was revisiting NYC after many years of exodus. Upon searching for a good sushi place while ridding the hop on hop ff bus this place popped up. No regrets, food is fresh, service awesome, recomend without any reservations
Excellent sushi. Very friendly, attentive service. What a pleasant surprise. Would highly recommend this place for sushi.
Wonderful small sushi place in SoHo. Very quick and delicious. Nothing fancy but who cares when it's this good. Update. 3rd time back. Still great. Udon noodles were outstanding. Sushi fresh
Always consistent. Impeccable service. Perfectly ripe avocado, healthy green tone. Silky salmon, fresh orange color. The right springiness in the rice. Premium seaweed which melts away pleasantly. And I already said it but must be said again - impeccable service!
Pretty basic. Went on a Wednesday around 6pm for a quick bite. Gyoza(6), sweet potato roll, shrimp tempura, dragon roll, then green tea mochi for dessert all reasonably priced and tasty. There is outdoor seating (3 tables), with sanitizer at the table, the staff is friendly and food came out quick.
i had such an amazing dinner here last night. i love japanese food and the fish was fresh and each dish was had great presentation. on top of that the boss was also so kind to me and my friend. will be coming back
Very reasonably priced, fresh-made, well done sushi. Small spot but can accommodate larger groups. Fantastic lunch or dinner spot - quick service. Take out is a great option here, too.
Order from here all the time on Seamless/Grub Hub. 9 times out of 10 the food is super fresh. It is always tasty. Rolls, soup, salad, fried shrimp, shumai are our favorites. Their fees on Seamless have gone up and are too high which only incentivizes people to tip the drivers less. I would rate 4.5 for that reason. They should consider this as the fees creep up over time. I may find someplace else if the fees increase.
Great sushi spot! Super fresh sushi and reasonable prices. Cute spot too!
A little small but best authentic food since a long time ❤️
Love the soups here. Good amount of seating. Very pleasant service. Sushi rolls are decent size. Very good for the price. Good selection of saki. Great for in house or take out.
Great to eat outside here, great Salmon Don, Vegetable Gyoza, Miso soup and a calm spot to eat outside with great service. It’s a pleasure to come here...an under-the-radar sushi spot in between Soho and Little Italy. If you need your server, they leave a doorbell at your table to get their attention! So cool, no one else is doing that...genius! Relax. Enjoy great sushi here at great prices. Amazing find with Lunch Specials too!
A really lovely restaurant! The fish is fresh, the waitstaff is friendly, and the lunch special is filling and reasonably priced. I usually eat here at least once a week! Highly recommended.
Wonderful sushi! Wonderful service as well, nice atmosphere and the likes. Just ever so slightly not 100% authentic Japanese, I say that meaning the flavor of the rolls is just slightly different from most sushi places, but not in a bad way (or good either). Overall though, I would definitely recommend it.
Thank you for a great meal! I enjoyed my food and appreciated the polite and professional service. There are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu too, which was really nice. This is a perfect place to eat before or after going to the Regal Essex Crossing Movie theater. I look forward to coming back soon :)
I LOVE THIS PLACE SO MUCH. I eat sushi very often so when I say this fish was some of the freshest I've ever had, I mean it. I'm in NY every couple months and after coming back for the 2nd time, I will make sure to stop by for CHIRASHI at least once every time I'm here. obsessed.
we found this place using google maps and i’m so glad we did. petit little restaurant hidden from the large view like a little secret. food was so fresh. service was above and beyond and thoughtful. we highly recommend.
Came here for a birthday meal with friends. Mikaku Sushi did an amazing job to make sure we had a wonderful time. The servers were very attentive. Everybody really enjoyed the food. They kept the birthday cake in the back and brought it out at the end of the meal with a candle so everyone could sing. It was overall just a pleasant experience. I'm sure we will be back. Please note that the restaurant is small when considering your plans.
I’ve been coming here for 5 years and don’t even live in the city. The best.
Low key spot, food was 10/10 and it was a very cozy vibe
A wonderful gem. My wife and I wandered in one day on a date night and we were delighted at what we found. The food tasted great, it was a very reasonable price, and the service was speedy. Our server never let our drinks empty. Our three course meal was less than $50 total.
With so many great food options in this neighborhood, I was pleased to try this spot since it was something new and unexpected. We were sat down quickly and food served almost immediately after ordering. The food is delicious (especially the beef teriyaki) and had so much value with the combo containing gyoza and sushi rolls along with miso soup and side salad. My only comment is I couldn’t tell at first that there was a bathroom (you just have to go through the kitchen to use it) so it’d be easy to assume and we almost left because of this. otherwise it was a perfect dining experience and 10/10 will return.
Love the 2 roll lunch special that comes with a side salad and miso soup. Quick service and friendly staff.
Very good sushi, fair price, nice staff. Always try to include this in a SOHO shopping tour.
The food is good, raw fish is high quality, and the servers are attentive. The atmosphere has comfortable vibes. I would come eat here again.
I live right next to this place and have yet to be disappointed. Is it the most authentic Japanese sushi? No. But does it all taste good if you order right? Yes 100%. The rock shrimp are amazing as well at the Y2K roll. Prices are super reasonable so you can’t be expecting Michelin star sushi but to go grab a quick bite this is the spot. Also I’ve never had a problem with service - always super nice. My friend and I love this place it’s a soho hidden gem
No wait time! Super attentive and fun service. Cute atmosphere. Large menu, prompt service, delicious food. I recommend the soft shell crab and the crunchy spicy tuna rolls. Shout out to Mikaku for not making everyone wait outside in the cold. Other soho places can take note.
Great little spot. Fish tasted fresh and delicious. Waitress was fantastic, love when they keep giving you tea without having to ask.
I love it here! Small, quaint, and it is a lovely place to go to. Service is quick, good quality food (i love the miso soup and chicken tempura roll!) and staff is hardworking and attentive!
Amazing food. WOW. I am blown away by the fresh fish and phenomenal service. 10/10 amazing price AMAZING FOOD. The best chicken teriyaki I ever had! Also, in my salmon, avocado mango roll. The mango and avocado were absolutely perfect. I’ve been to the finest sushi restaurants in the world, and they can’t even make a roll as good as they did here. I can’t wait to bring my friends and family here
really cute cozy place. i had a great service experience, the servers are direct but take good care of you. fish is fresh and well seasoned (i had spicy tuna roll) would definitely recommend but its small so come early to make sure you get seats. they also have take out available! (also they give really big mugs of hot green tea usually it's smaller at other places) if we lived here we'd be regulars!
I eat sushi all the time on the west coast, but in NYC I’ve struggled to find a place with truly high quality fish for an affordable cost. Earlier this year, I found this place on doordash and now I order from them all the time. Not once have I been disappointed. The prices are amazingly low and the fish is consistently high quality, plus they are very generous with the size of their nigiri. Also— you can never go wrong with their “yellowtail boy.”
Went here for my birthday and enjoyed my experience at this restaurant! Started off with some sake and miso soup, which tasted exactly how they should. Then I decided to get the Natto Ika, it was something new, and it was alright. Not a fan of natto but that's just personal preference, since it has a strong fermented alcohol taste. The chicken udon and sashimi were delicious though. The wait staff checked for vaccination and ID, and they were very attentive to us.
Nice fresh sushi but the staff could be more friendly.
came for a quick lunch, and the service surely provided that. Only took about five minutes for my two roll lunch special. Tasted fresh, but the seaweed was tough.
Found this restaurant when I googled Sushi near me. I almost walked past it, I'm glad I didn't. It's a bit of a hole in the wall but the food is tasty and fresh and the prices are really reasonable. I will definite visit this place again. ps: Try their homemade Lemonade, it's the best.
mikaku sushi was a pretty good experience for my friend and i. prices were insanely good for nyc, about the same i pay for sushi back where i currently live in central pa. we ordered the sushi for two, quality was good but our "chefs choices" were the most basic sushi you could ask for. overall, the restaurant is delicious with good service. be aware they do automatically add an 18% tip to your bill!
Charming, 25 seat restaurant with budget midweek lunches. We ordered 2 bento boxes and a sashimi& sushi lunch special to share. The miso soup was good. The salad was chilled and tasted really fresh. The sashimi was chilled, fresh & tender. The large sushi pieces (with less rice which is the way I like) was not dressed with wasabi - at least for the salmon pieces. The sizeable salmon teriyaki had a nice grill flavor with a less sweet teriyaki sauce. The tonkatsu was a thin pork cutlet with a deep fried crispy coating and was served with a tangy side of sauce. The service was attentive and water was filled up regularly. On a cold Thursday in December (2024), there was a short line for the few tables.
Mikaku Sushi was a delight. Went there for lunch with some friends and everything besides the salmon from the salmon lunch set tasted pretty good. Generous amount of Unagi for the price point. The sushi was fresh. Chicken katsu was fried perfectly. Can never go wrong with dumplings either. The salmon from the salmon lunch set was a bit dry and flavorless however. They have a good range of options in the menu as well. It’s a little small inside so take-out would be a good options from this place as well. Overall good experience.
Service: 5/5 Great customer service. Price: 5/5 Excellent prices. Food: 3/5 Got the sushi lunch special. Good price at $12.50 that comes with soup and salad. The sushi rice is not actually sushi rice. The fish on top of the rice was fine. I wouldn’t come back here except on days where I prioritize price or unless they make the sushi rice real sushi rice.
Wouldn't recommend for someone with food allergies. I told them about my allergies, was given a salad with tomato on it (which I'm allergic to), I was told I could pick them out when I asked for a new one, after I explained the severity of my allergy they went to the kitchen and returned quickly with a new salad... I couldn't see what they were doing in the kitchen but the speed at which my salad came back and the conversation did not leave me feeling confident they didn't just pick out the tomatoes. If they were at least friendly I would give this place another chance, but this was my third time and I wouldn't rate any experience above "okay".
Came here for lunch from seeing good reviews on here, but I ended up disappointed. It's not bad, but it's not great either. I ordered a salmon don, the salmon was alright, but the rice was dry and hard. It took a second to get seated, one of the waitresses was just on her phone while we waited to be seated (there were several open tables.) The waitress we did end up getting was really attentive though, and she frequently came to refill our water, take away plates, etc. I think for the price it's fair, but I don't think I'm coming back here.
I travel a lot and eat a LOT of sushi. Unfortunately, I couldn’t eat this sushi. My husband was disappointed as well. We ordered 3 rolls and they just didn’t have any flavor. The protein in each roll was minced up so much that honestly, it felt like we were eating food that had already been chewed up. Service wasn’t that great. We did leave a good tip because that’s just who we are but I wouldn’t eat here if you are like us and eat a lot of sushi/know what good sushi is. We ended up surviving on the desserts. I definitely recommend dessert here :)
One of the worst sushi places I've been to. The service was bad, the waitress did not ask how was the food, did not bring napkins and was very cold like she as doing us a favour. The sushi itself was bad, the rolls were tiny and expensive for the quality and taste you get. Even the seaweed salad was horrible. The only good thing was the soba soup that's why i gave it 2 starts and not 1.
They have the worst shrimp tempura ever. It didn’t taste bad, it tasted just super plain something that I won’t bother to buy but will eat it if it was served. However all they gave me was small rolls of just Fried shrimp, rice, seaweed and that’s it. They didn’t put no oyster sauce on top of it (I don’t really know if it is oyster sauce that’s is typically on it but I think it is) and wanted to charge me a $1 for it. Usually when I order shrimp tempura at other places it’s made with cucumbers and other ingredients and the oyster sauce on top and they charge me $7 for it but this store charged me $6 for just rolled up Fried shrimp. I was mad and still is. Also they took an 1 hour long just to make it.
Rude extremely poor service me and my sister went there to have some sushi the AC on the hottest days of the year was not working properly, you would think a place that deals with raw food would have proper air conditioning, but they don’t the place just felt rundown. They need to get it together. They definitely pay for the review.
I hate giving poor reviews for small restaurants. But food rather tasteless, homemade lemonade tastes chemically. Atmosphere 1 star as ladies were arguing in Japanese at eachother then getting on speaker phone with someone for the entirety of the meal. Should have taken the hint when I sat in the restaurant by myself.
Came to Mikaku with my family on 8/26/16 after reading favorable reviews on Google. We loved the sushi, but unfortunately were RIPPED OFF when we asked for the bill. We had ~30$ added to our check without explanation or receipt! Being in a hurry, we've figured it out after we left the restaurant, trying to figure out how the bill came to be so high. I'm shocked such a nice place would take advantage of the tourists! Such a shame!.
The food was ok but the service was terrible! I wanted to give a tip but she then ask me you not want to give more tip ? For bringing me 2 dishes and 2 beers she wanted 20$ tip. I will never go there again it’s just about the money and not about the costumer
Be careful if you are taking out. They play sneaky game not telling you the size. $42 dollars in total. Just this much. I understand the fried oysters are written on the menu to be 4 pieces. But your specialty roll is not even 6 of them for 16 dollars! I ve seen pictures in the comments. Others got specialty rolls and it was way more than what I got.
