Ray's Pizza Bagel Cafe Albee Square Reviews
We came during one of those "oh wow, glad we got here when we did" moments. We walked right in and were served right away. Those following us didn't really have the fast-paced service as we did though. It became very busy very fast. We stayed in a hotel near Time Square and wanted to treat friends from out-of-town to some quick New York pizza. I know it may not be 100% authentic New York pizza but it did the job. I ordered a BBQ chicken slice and plain cheese slice which didn't disappoint. The crust was pretty burnt but no big deal. We still enjoyed it. The portions are huge and filling! We went in for just a quick bite to eat and that's what we got. We sat at the bar, wolfed down the slices, and were back on the streets. The staff at Ray's was fantastic and friendly. If we ever have the opportunity to swing by again when it's not busy, we definitely will. Thank you Ray's for great pizza.
A decent slice available 24/7 with a good seating area. Kinda of a gem to find dinner style seating in Manhattan, this isn't rushing you out or charging you an arm and a leg for the worst breakfast you've ever had.
The garlic knots were delicious. Tasty slices.
Always open, food is good, the customer service is amazing
Regular pizza was absolutely delicious 👏👏👏
Pizza was very tasty, service was quick.
Very nice people at the counter! Great pizza in the nyu area
Best pizza I've had in NYC, bbq slice is banging
A perfect place to grab a quick bite to eat. Really affordable and the portions are good.
My family and I stumbled across this place on a short walk from Union Square. We live in Virginia and the problem is that every time we talk about great pizza, we compare everything to Rays and nothing comes close. We can’t wait to return.
These guys nail it! Everything made on site from breads, cheesecake, sandwiches and so much more. This has been our go to spot since landing in NYC. Our 2nd morning in the gentleman serving us knew our coffee order already. We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner and each meal was delicious. This place is a total VIBE!
Utility pizza by the slice. But in a good way. Service is super friendly and the cheese pizzas super tasty. Two cheese slice and a can of soda cost $7.25. The slices are big and there are plenty of indoor seats and some out door seating. One of the gem and joys of New York City.
Ray’s pizza and bagel shop is a great place to enjoy for a late night slice. Their chicken Parm sandwich is a classic, with tender chicken breast, melted cheese, and marinara sauce on a soft roll. The sandwich is filling and satisfying. Their pepperoni pizza is also a crowd-pleaser, with thin crust, gooey cheese, and spicy pepperoni slices. Ray’s pizza and bagel shop has friendly service, reasonable prices, and a cozy atmosphere. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick meal in the area.
we have eaten here several times. breakfast and dinner. our hotel will be around the corner so we have a nice piece of pizza after the long flight. lovely! in the mornings we have paninis or a cake. everything was very tasty!!! prices quality was great! the guys are very nice and helpful
An excellent late-nite spot for an affordable, delicious meal. Whenever I try a new pizza spot I always go for classic cheese before anything else and this did not disappoint - it's a quintessential New York slice. The man behind the counter, Eugene, was also a delight, throwing a free beverage my way after I lamented and kvetched about a bouncer who wouldn't let me into a nearby bar because I was wearing shorts. Nothing less than a true New York moment. Pizza. Kindness. Beer. What more do you need?
Good pizza people work fast, but not cheap. 20 for 4 slices. Also place is warm you can eat inside or outside. Walls are covered with paintings of New York City skyscrapers. Seems like a popular place. Also you can get pasta and chicken parm if you don’t want pizza.
This is a local favorite and I certainly understand why. It has an incredible array of pizza, pizza, desserts, drinks, and beers. It feels very "New York" with lots of laughter, wonderful smells, and camaraderie. I felt like a New Yorker just walking through the door. The prizes are reasonable, the place is clean and you can eat indoors or outdoors. I had a spinach pie and my wife had a veggie pizza bagel and a slice of mushroom and spinach pizza. We shared an incredible piece of carrot cake for dessert. The service was downright jovial and we enjoyed ourselves very much. This is a special place and every bit a piece of New Yorker "Americana".
what we ordered: Smoked salmon and cream cheese 🥯 Chicken fajita panini 🐔 Pepperoni Sicilian 🍕 Chicken broccoli pizza 🥦 Chocolate cupcake 🧁 Carrot cake 🥕 this place has everything and it’s 24/7!! the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel was so good- super thicc too. the panini got a kick of spice too. they have a variety of pizzas to choose from and they even have desserts!! loved both the cupcake and carrot cake. definitely satisfied my sweet cravings 🤤
I loved the incredible selection of pizza slices. See pics. However I went for a bagel, also see pic. Huge! On a cold December day I was able to sit outside on their "patio" which isn't heated as such but wasn't cold. Seems like a classic authentic NY place to grab some quick food before walking or heading to the Subway station opposite.
This was a delightful find right next to our hotel. They were open 24/7 and they have everything from luscious desserts, bagels and cream cheese, challah french toast, pizza, salads, fruit bowls, yogurt parfait, etc. The staff are really friendly and the prices are very reasonable. The music is loud and pulsating, a little too loud for some people, but I found myself dancing all around and couldn’t stop myself!
This would be my favorite pizza spot out of the 3 I attended. The Buffalo chicken pizza had some fire to it. But it was really good. Spent 9 or 10 bucks on the slice and soda. Right in the middle of east village. I didn't get a sandwich but they did look really good. Not a lot of places to sit. I think the delivery guy take all the seating in the back area which just leaves the 6 tables in front, so you can people watch. 2pm on a Friday. Busy but not packed.
This place delivers beyond what seems possible! Employees did a great job and all were ready to assist! I'll definitely make time for Ray's Pizza & Bagel Cafe on my next visit. They deliver quality food with good attention. I thoroughly appreciated this place and will certainly be back!
THE FOOD IS VERY VERY WELL DONE. BLOWS AWAY ANY REGULAR DELI OR BODEGA AND PRICED ABOUT THE SAME. OVERALL GREAT VALUE, QUALITY, NICE CLEAN PLACE TO SIT AND ENJOY A MEAL. BREAKFAST IS MY PERSONAL GO TO HERE, AND ONE OF THE FEW PLACES THAT I WILL SIT DOWN AND ENJOY THE FOOD. I CANNOT HELP BUT RECCOMEND THE PANCAKES... HOWEVER, TODAY TRIED FRENCH TOAST AND VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE SUPER THICK CUT AND PROPER COOKED, JUST RIGHT NICE N FLUFFY TOO.
The food is absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is a little rundown, but the feel you get the homey feel the New York feel so it makes up for it but like I said, the food is great. The staff is very respectful when you're in New York you have to eat here because the pizza is absolutely the bomb.
I didn't love the loose cheese & sweet sauce on this cupping pepperoni Sicilian slice, but it really hit the spot anyway. Took me back about seventeen years to a time when I used to party on St. Mark's! 2007, that is.
I love this pizza. One of the firsts I tried like 20 years ago. Still great and so consistent over the years. Cheese and pep slice. Perfect combo of both. Always right on the money. Love this place and GREAT hours!
A solid pizza spot. Good veggie pizza, lots of freshness. Decent sauce and crispy crust.
Pizza is ok, better pizza places around the area. But this place really nails some good bagel sandwiches. Recently tried their bacon, egg and cheese bagels and they don’t disappoint and for a decent price too, even with a pastry or with a coffee.
Large assortment of food and desserts. I had the bread pudding and garlic knots on separate days. The bread pudding was delicious, but the garlic knots were bitter. Fairly mid.
We wanted to try some slices of pizza and beagles but omg my beagle was so good! Very generous portions and fresh ingredients! Maybe was salmon, cream cheese 🥯 my bf got a huge slice of pizza which was so good (buffalo chicken pizza highly recommended) staff is very friendly and helpful! Perfect first mela in NYC 🗽
Ray's Pizza is a reliable spot for quick and satisfying meals. Open 24/7, they offer a diverse menu including bagels, sandwiches, pizzas, and desserts. Their pizzas are a standout, with a crispy crust and a flavorful combination of toppings. The staff was friendly and efficient, making for a pleasant dining experience.
After trying to go to Joe's pizza around the corner that we could not get into. We tried Ray's were ordered 2 slices 1 pepperoni and 1 sausage. The service was very good along with the atmosphere and people watching. The slices were almost molten so that where the people watching came in. Remember to allow a little time before you bite into your slice.
Stopped in at Ray’s Pizza & Bagel Café under the St. Marks Hotel while exploring the East Village. The food was reasonably priced for the area, and the pizza slices were fresh, hot, and full of flavor classic New York style! They serve everything quick, and the staff was super friendly and efficient. There are two small bathrooms, not wheelchair friendly, though the entrance and seating area are accessible. Inside has that authentic NYC pizza shop vibe, and you can also grab a seat outside under the red awning to people-watch. Overall, a great spot for a quick, affordable bite whether you’re a local or just visiting. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re near Astor Place or St. Marks.
Ray’s Pizza in Manhattan is a good spot to hit up after a late night of drinking or after a concert in Manhattan. It’s not the greatest pizza in the world, or even NYC, but it gets the job done and is definitely decent. I showed up after a concert at Webster Hall, ordered jalapeño-pepperoni + mushroom-olive slices, plus a Modelo Especial. Hung out in a booth, munchin away. There were a handful of other people inside: a couple eating a late night meal, 4 friends chatting after slices. Overall, although the pizza isn’t top-tier—it’s a bit flimsy, sauce isn’t the greatest—they are generous with ingredients and the service is great. Very genuinely happy workers who are just chatty enough and prompt. The atmosphere is cool too. Nothing crazy, but you get a classic NYC vibe in here.
Pretty cool joint that sells pizzas and bagels. HUGE selection to choose from! Lots of seating in the back. The pizza was good. They also had two small tables on the front sidewalk for those who love outdoor dining. The dining area in the back has cool murals to look at. The whole place has an old time authentic pizza joint feel to it.
No prices are posted. Wonder if prices differ based on who orders.
The pizza is bad. It's crust is dry and the sauce is bland. The staff is friendly and service was fast.
$21.63 - 3 slices, 1 ice tea. This used to be my favorite. Pizza in the city. I was so.locking forwsrd to it. After sticker shock....slice size smaller, less cheese, not crispy, very little dripping oil. Not sure what happened [oh yeah- costs] but seriously disappointed. It is still pizza.stll at st marks corner...but...not DELICIOUS. :(
Decent place, but not the best for things like breakfast. When having cold breakfast you are more than likely to have a day old item. The bathroom is dirty and sometimes filled with insects.
place is clean, workers are nice, but probably the worst pizza I’ve had in a while. Very doughy and undercooked
Went late at night and it was cold outside. I ordered a pizza and seen the inside seating area was blocked off by trash cans and the only seating available was in the “outside” area. I seen people eating in the inside but it was only for special people….people who looked like them. So someone ordered after me and since they were of brown skin they were allowed to seat in the heat and since I didn’t have that skin I had to sit out in the cold. When I said something. The guy in the front laughed and said it’s for special people. Oh okay, the pizza was good but pricey.
Lackluster run of the mill pizza. Got a chicken ranch slice for $8 (by itself) and I asked for more ranch it was $2 more. Definitely taxing and got argumentative with a group of people who wanted to sit while they waited and asked for a receipt to make sure they bought from them but did not hand a single customer a receipt.
Well. After having different pizzas from around the block, this one’s the most expensive and least quality. For the money, the dollar places are better. And to add insult to injury, the cheesecake was maybe the worst we’ve had in nyc. Not sweet at all
Expensive midtown pizza place. I didn't try anything besides the pizza, so I can't speak to the entirety, but the pizza sucked. The toppings were good, but the pizza itself was worse than $1 pizza. I got 2 slices and threw out most of the second slice. The staff was nice and quick though. I wouldn't go back unless I was desperate. Take a longer walk to a better spot. Everyone else here probably just has bad taste. 🧐
They over charged people here not fair business...pay attention when using a credit card
DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE A YOUNG WOMAN. Two of my friends and I went here at around 2am on 9/28/24. There was a man leaning on a white van right outside of the building watching us. We ordered our food and sat in the indoor seating area. It was just us three in the seating area. My friends went outside for a moment and said the man with the van walked around the corner to stare at them. While they were gone, the two older Hispanic men that served us (it was only them working) took two big metal carts and blocked us into the indoor seating area. When my friends came back and we were eating, the man with the van came inside and was talking to the workers while staring and pointing at us. Once we noticed something weird was happening, we got up to leave, and the workers immediately got defensive. “Why are you leaving? Where are you going? Don’t leave, stay,” etc. I have never felt so unsafe in my life and I wonder what would have happened if we had stayed there.
Extremely rude. I ordered "bagel with lox, cream cheese, and capers" and the guy making the bagel understood just fine. I was called up to the cashier to pay and was asked what I got and said same thing. I paid, and when my bagel came the guy very rudely said "why did you say lox spread", immediately jumping to the assumption that I was defrauding him instead of that he just misunderstood. Paid the difference which is fine, I didn't realize I was paying the 'lox spread' price instead of the 'fresh lox' price anyways, and there were no posted prices for me to know anyways. Just wish that the cashier wasn't such a jerk about his own misunderstanding. Bagel was pretty stale too.
Had food at this establishment in the afternoon. The staff made an OK sandwich which was freshly made. I returned at 12.30 am and ordered a ham, cheese and tomato pannini. The man behind the counter deliberately gave me a Turkey sandwich, which I waited to be toasted. On discovering this, I asked for my original order, which was ham cheese, and tomato with no sauce. The man never paid attention and, after five minutes, poured honey mustard all over the sandwich. I asked for my $15 as I was not prepared to wait for a third sandwich to be made. The two sandwiches went in the bin, and I went home hungry. Absolutely useless staff.
I actually really liked this pizza shop before today , thought the bbq chicken pizza was delicious but today there was a piece of a glove in my pizza under the cheese and they didn’t take it serious and looked at us like if we we’re stupid. Had to ask for a refund because this isn’t okay. One spoke spanish as we were walking out (not knowing I speak Spanish) saying “after we ate the pizza” ummm I don’t eat my pizza from the crust down , how was I going to know it was there till I got to it ? I told them check your cameras because I have nothing to hide and was told to “calm down”. It would’ve been forgiven had someone said sorry because I understand things happen but not even a sorry , more so looks of suspicion.
How hard is it to make a decent pizza. Has no taste... very disappointed.
I had a drunk night not gone lie, got me and my boy 2 slices I got charged 32 dollars for 4 slices these people will rob you dont come here
I hadn’t been to this pizzeria in over 3 years, and I was shocked at how far downhill it’s gone. The staff were extremely rude, didn’t even bother to smile or show any basic professionalism. The pizza itself was honestly trash greasy, bland, and clearly not fresh. On top of that, the place was dirty and looked completely neglected. It’s sad to see how badly it’s declined. Definitely not coming back or recommending it to anyone.
I asked the associate for 2 slices of pizza and a piece of chocolate chip cheese cake. He rang me up for the pizza I selected, and sent me to the other guy for the cheese cake. When I went down to select my cheese cake, he gave me a plain one and said that’s what I paid for. I asked the other guy to confirm n he said “yeah, plain cheesecake”. I ended up eating that plain cheesecake and it was weak. I never woulda asked for cheesecake if my only option was “plain”.
I’m disappointed to say that the rumors about the staff's rudeness are absolutely true. As paying customers, we expected at least a baseline of respect, but the employees here are incredibly dismissive and disrespectful. I even recognized one of the staff members from a photo in another negative review, clearly this is a recurring issue that management refuses to fix. If you don’t like your job, find another one, but don’t take it out on the customers.
I came in around 11 pm to use the restroom with my partner. We were told we needed to make a purchase so we bought a beer. Went to use the bathroom; and while we were in there one of the employees pounded on the door & insisted we open it. Eventually opened the door on us while I had no pants on, exposing me to the entire restaurant. Their shitty pizza is not worth getting sexually harassed over.
Dropped my pizza on accident and the guy refused to replace it with a smug and nasty attitude, laughing in my face, it wasn't too long after I stood outside deterring customers that another guy came out and asked to replace it (cold mind you) Just nasty vibes all around go to one of the other 4628296 pizza joints in nyc these guys aren't even Italian
Rude guy over charged me for whatever reason. Said I was a type one diabetic really needed to use the bathroom so I can do my medication but said I had to pay for something. So I chose something I thought would be decent price. An Arizona can that’s usually 50 cents he charged me 2$ for and gave me immense attitude.
I had an ok "grandma" pizza slice (though it isn't like the grandma slice available at most NYC places). But the restaurant does not post prices, nor do they have a menu you can look at with prices. I was SHOCKED after they heated my slice and rang me up that I was charged $6.95 for a single vegetarian pizza slice. I would never have ordered it if I knew the price. I asked to see the menu and they just pointed to the signs above the counter (no prices). I asked for a printed menu and they said they don't have one and the prices only exist in the point-of-sale computer. For all I know, they made up the price based on what they thought I would be willing to pay. Charge what you want to charge, but don't try to trap customers into paying an absurd price that you didn't disclose ahead of time. You can buy perfectly decent pizza slices in the neighborhood for $2 or even less!
