Saperavi Albee Square Reviews
The food all tasted marvelous…!! Even without prior knowledge with Georgian food I was able to truly enjoy all the food.. It’s really that good. Also the staff members are all really warm and welcoming, that truly adds to the experience as well🥹 in case anyone is wondering (by order): - eggplant roll - chicken tabaka - adjaruli (khachapuri) - honey cake (MUST GET) I would confidently recommend all four dishes; so excited to come for more!!
Absolutely stellar experience at this Georgian restaurant! The food was incredibly flavorful — every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The beef khinkhali were hands down my favorite — perfectly cooked, juicy, and packed with rich, delicious flavor. I could have ordered a second round just for myself! Their honey cake also is very good. The service was just as impressive as the food. The staff was warm, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome from start to finish. Will definitely be back. Highly recommended
We came for a weekend dinner with two friends and made the bold decision to arrive without a reservation. Despite this, the staff still managed to accommodate us. We started with the pkhali and pickled vegetables. The pkhali were vibrant, beautifully balanced, and deeply satisfying. The little cornbread served in place of standard bread was a piquant, clever touch. The pickled vegetables deserve special praise: I love pickled everything, but these were on another level, layered with spices and complexity that elevated them. Then came the Adjaruli khachapuri—aka cheese heaven with a golden crust. I couldn’t skip the beef khinkali—my forever favorite—and these were exactly what they should be: beautifully sculpted dumplings, perfectly seasoned, with that glorious hot broth inside bathing the meat. Dessert was the honey cake that was infused with golden honey. Service was incredible throughout. Our server was warm, funny, and attentive without hovering—the rare combination of professional and genuinely delightful.
This is such a special dining experience - intimate, cozy, and perfect for a date night or a small group of 3-4 people. The food was outstanding. The menu has traditional Georgian cuisine with fresh ingredients and a wonderful balance of sweet and savory flavors. The elarji balls were a favorite, and we also tried the potato and mushroom appetizer, which was full of flavor. We had the chicken kebab, which was juicy, cooked perfectly, and paired with grilled vegetables. On top of the amazing food, the service truly elevated the experience. The servers were incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and thoughtful with their recommendations and explanations of the dishes. Dining here felt genuinely lovely from start to finish and I can’t wait to go back!
Celebrated my husband’s birthday at Saperavi. Our pick was the 2020 Saperavi Reserve from Dugladze Wine Company. Made from Saperavi grapes, Georgia’s signature red variety, grown in the Kakheti region, this wine leans dry and bold with dark cherry and blackcurrant, a bit of smoke, and a subtle oak vanilla note from time in French oak. Firm tannins and a medium-long, warming finish. ABV 14.5%. We paired the wine with chicken skewers, veal stew, and beef dumplings. Everything was delicious and the wine held up to every dish. Such a lovely night, and shoutout to Sarge, our server, for being so friendly and hospitable!
The khinkali here are incredibly delicious. The meat khinkali have a perfect balance of spice and juiciness, with plenty of broth inside and very flavorful, well-seasoned meat! The cheese khinkali are a great option for those who don’t eat meat. The cheese is rich and tasty, combined with tender dough and green onions inside — a perfect combination. They also have an excellent wine selection, especially the red Georgian wine, which is truly very good. I eat here often and always leave satisfied. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
Just had an incredible meal here! We’ve been to Georgia before and love Georgian cuisine, and I can honestly say the food here is just as authentic and delicious. And our server Soso was friendly, attentive, and guided us with great recommendations. Highly recommended!
Absolutely fantastic experience. The chicken shashlik was outstanding — perfectly grilled, juicy, and full of flavor. The vegetables were fresh and cooked just right, and the whole presentation felt truly gourmet. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food. Highly recommend this place. Soso Additionally, thanks for recommending the wine selection!
Great Georgian spot. Waiters are very friendly & answers any questions about the food. I also loved how they have normal breakfast menu as well with eggs & Salads. The authentic Khachapuri was an amazing experience. I had the Adjaruli Khachapuri & Omelette with Salad. Not sure what dressing & seasoning they put in the salad, but that was amazing!
Fantastic vibes and tremendously delicious food! Had the eggplant rolls, adjaruli khachapuri, and the ribs. Loved the service - so kind, helpful, and with a laugh and a smile. Perfect for smaller groups (4-6) as well as pairs.
The food was absolutely amazing. This was my first time having Georgian food and everything we ate was delicious! The service was incredible and extremely friendly. I am very happy we came for a casual dinner!
sarge was the best! first time eating georgian food and he was so patient, helpful, and hospitable! all of his recommendations were delicious - we had eggplant rolls, potato & mushroom, bread boat, kupati, and dumplings
Had a great experience at this restaurant. We were a group of four, and had full dinner here. I have been to a lot of georgian restaurants and cafes, and this one is one of the best ones. The food was very tasty, we ordered 5-6 different dishes, and every single one of them was great. Their Napoleón cake was out of this world – a must try if you like dessert. Finally, the service was perfect. We had a great evening, thank you!
Excellent food, service, and atmosphere!! My fried and I very much enjoyed authentic Georgian food here for New Year's celebration! They offered a different cocktail when they were out of orange juice. All food were cooked so well with Georgian spices. Presentation was excellent as well. We asked a bottle of white wine which came in room temperature, but wait staff apologized and put the bottle in the cooler immediately. They're very professional, and yet friendly. We'll definitely come back!
We came here on Wednesday night, the place is tiny and it was packed. We sat at the bar and lovely bartender Coco served us. He recommended us some very good Georgian home made wine and it was delicious. Food was also phenomenal. Smashed avocado is fire! And Kupati is also great and the plate was pretty big. So we had a great time. Only recommendation- better make a reservation!
This was my first time trying Georgian food and it did not disappoint!! Everything was delicious and had the right amount of flavor. The waiter and everyone in the restaurant were so friendly and attentive. They gave us recommendations for both food and drinks that paired well together. I really enjoyed the chicken with the garlic sauce and I’d definitely be back for the eggplant with the walnut sauce! Highly recommend you check it out!
THE BEST GEORGIAN RESTAURANT IN NYC! The staff are very kind and welcoming and they are Georgians so you are getting to know their culture and see the actual people who are standing behind this God’s food! The service was amazing, we got food almost right way - very fresh and yummy!!! Our plates were completely empty!!! The atmosphere is so Georgian that you feel like you are home or you got to smn’s home and they are welcoming you! Highly recommend!!! Madloba!!
We had great meal. The Shkmeruli is really good here. Some of the dishes like the Kubdari and the borscht could've used more salt and seasoning. The fries are great here. The chicken sandwich is fantastic. Nicely seasoned and on a hearty bun. There's a tarragon lemon aide that I ordered that I thought would've have been fresh. It's bottled and not very good. We had a great meal overall, highlighted by a few standout dishes. The Shkmeruli was excellent, and the chicken sandwich is truly fantastic—perfectly seasoned and served on a hearty, high-quality bun. I also highly recommend the fries. The Kubdari and the borscht felt a bit under-salted and could have used more seasoning. There's a tarragon lemon aide that I ordered that I thought would've have been fresh. It's bottled and not very good. The service here is wonderful. The overall experience is five stars. I look forward to dining here again.
Go NOW before this place has a line out the door! Best Georgian food I ever had and excellent, attentive, warm customer service We did not have a reservation but they went above and beyond to get us a table for 5. Kachapuri and Kinkali (beef dumplings) are heaven and the spicy Georgian beef stew is so tender and flavorful
I walked into Saperavi and immediately felt the charm of this small, intimate spot. The atmosphere is cozy and genuinely inviting. The staff here are incredibly attentive and warm, making you feel right at home. The menu is pure delight, seasoned to perfection and deeply flavorful. Every bite tastes homemade, as if the recipes have been guarded for generations. Whether it’s your first time trying Georgian cuisine or you're a long-time fan, the combination of authentic food and old-world charm makes this a lovely experience. This place is a gem meant to be shared by people who truly care about the food they eat. The real surprise is the bill; it is rare to find such high-level, authentic cooking that doesn’t demand a king’s ransom. 🙏🏻 Take someone you love, or just go alone to soak in the vibes—it is absolutely worth it. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It wasn’t just a meal, but the whole experience! I love Georgian cuisine and here I found authentic delicious food. They serve amazing Georgian wines, and honey cake was simply a masterpiece. People who work there are incredibly attentive and warm. Enjoyed my dinner a lot and will definitely come back!
I lived in 7 states and 1 other country. I mean, please order the kaput. The sausage is the best I've eaten. A hint of pomegranate a hint of mint in the mash. You have to come here with an open mind. The bartender soso is very nice and continues to tell me about his culture and the amber white wine from his country. The hostess is beautiful and very nice. Kind of want to keep this close. But this place is too unique for others to not know about.
Started with their Georgian-style spritz — light, refreshing, and full of flavor. It was the perfect drink to ease into the evening and set the mood for everything that followed. Next came the Khachapuri, a warm, cheesy bread that’s one of Georgia’s most popular dishes. The crust was soft and golden, and the cheese inside was rich, gooey, and perfectly melted. Every bite was pure comfort. Then came the Khinkali, Georgia’s signature dumplings. I had one filled with seasoned meat and another with cheese, both perfectly shaped and full of flavor. The texture and warmth made them the ultimate cozy dish. To finish, I had a layered honey cake that was light, creamy, and delicately sweet — the perfect way to wrap up the meal.
This was one of the best restaurant experiences I have had in a long time! The food, the service and the atmosphere were just unmatched! I will start with the food - first we had eggplant rolls that had a bit of smoky flavor and they were so so fresh ( like everything in this restaurant). Elarji balls were full of cheese and with a great sauce added on the side. Potato Mushroom Ojakhuri was the best mushroom dish I tried - the soft mushrooms that are juicy and crispy wedge potatoes make a perfect combination. Then came Kubdari and again it was delicious. The dough was perfect and very thin which made it an exceptional dish. Chicken Skewer was also incredible with soft juicy chicken. We didn’t order the vegetables with them and they came with fries. Fries were crispy and well-seasoned. Lamb Chops were great - it is a good amount of them for the price being that they are on the most expensive on the menu. And the salad that comes with them is wow! The combination of their dressing, beats and greens just makes the dish stand out so well. My main reason for coming to this restaurant was to try Khinkali as I have never had them in my whole life. They were just amazing - full of soup and meet! I really enjoyed a simple but yet enticing flavor of them. They come hot and you can see that they were just made. A special note has to be said about the exceptional and friendly people that work there. Thank you for giving us a great experience. I am planning my next visit very soon!!!
Saperavi is an absolute gem. This small, intimate spot has a charm that makes you feel like you’ve been invited into someone’s home rather than just another restaurant. The food is pure comfort. Everything is seasoned to perfection and deeply flavorful. The first time wasn’t a fluke…. We have been 3 times now, bringing back with us family and friends to share our love. Mari and Serge are masters of hospitality, the kind of people who make you feel genuinely welcomed and remembered. They take the time to explain the menu, share stories, and ensure every detail of your visit feels personal. Mari made recommendations every visit that made my heart smile as I took my first bites. If you’re a cheese lover, you must try the traditional Georgian cheese. Get the adjaruli! It is unlike anything else with warm bread bowl filled with rich and buttery cheesy goodness. It alone is worth the visit. A warm, memorable experience from start to finish. Highly recommended.
I just left this Georgian restaurant and wow — what an amazing experience! The food was beyond delicious. Every bite tasted homemade and full of flavor. You can really feel the tradition and care behind every dish. The service was just as great. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, they made me feel right at home. It’s rare to find a place where both the food and the people are this good. The atmosphere was cozy and really charming. I had such a nice time and can’t wait to go back. If you’ve never tried Georgian food before, this is the perfect place to start!
A highly rated rustic, cozy Georgian spot opened a little over a year ago. A bit cramped and drafty when doors open. Great cheese pull on the khachapuri, as usual khinkalis are overpriced and blank for my taste. The mains chixken, lobiani and more were delicious, lots of carbs in the meal.
Saperavi is a pretty casual contemporary take on Georgian food. The place itself not very spacious but definitely cozy. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. The menu offers classic Georgian flavors, though, as with any cuisine you know well, some dishes may land better than others depending on personal preference. I really liked spinach and cheese khinkali! Overall, it’s a reasonable place to try Georgian food, especially for those exploring it for the first time.
