Tiny Shanghai Albee Square Reviews
Amazing spot for Shanghai style food, everything is delicious! The soup dumplings are amazing as well as the noodle dishes. My favorite dishes were the thinly shaved pork belly and the crispy eel.
Laid back environment with good food and interesting cocktail menu. We ordered Wound of War cocktail and it was mellow and strong which compliments the meal. For entree, we ordered 4 dishes and the food arrived so fast we were shocked. Good service and portion size. Look forward to coming back for a delicious meal again.
We were in the area and looking for a place to eat. I was able to make reservations 30 minutes prior to our meal (granted it was Sunday evening). We got there 15 minutes early but we were not able to sit until our meal time, which is fine. The waiting area is not that big so you're better off getting there 5 minutes before your reservation time. The menu has a good range of yummy options. It was hard to choose. I REALLY enjoyed the chili noodles with dried shrimp for the appetizer and the Don PO Pork buns for the entree. That pork is TENDER! My friends enjoyed their food as well. Overall great experience. I really like the decor and ambiance. There were many other items on the menu that I wanted to try so I'll definitely be back to try them.
By far one of my favorite places for dim sum. Been so many times and have forgot to review in the past. The curry dumplings are one of my favorite, but I've really not gone wrong a single time I've eaten here. The Michelin guide approves and I concur, not that that means a damn thing in comparison.
We didn’t make reservations at Little Alley, just showed up around 7:30, but with just a short wait we were able to grab a table. The hostess and our various waiters (they all seem to assist all diners) were all very friendly and welcoming. We love to try new things so we had to check out the Little Alley Pig Ear appetizer, and I also wanted to try the Shanghai Crispy Eel. For entrees the husband ordered the Eight Delicacies in Chili Sauce and I got the Soft Shell Crab with Rice Cake. Pro tip- their appetizers and entrees are hefty, with two apps and two entrees we were stuffed at the end. The food! The pigs ears were our favorite thing we tried- they well seasoned and so unique I’ve never had anything quite like it. We didn’t read the menu carefully and were surprised it was a cold dish- I imagined the crispy was from being fried but it’s just the texture of the cartilage! It’s probably not for everyone but I really enjoyed the new experience and the flavor and spice were great. The crispy eels were also tasty, though with such a large portion split between just two people I found the sweetness of the sauce a bit much. I started dipping them in the chili oil from the ears and enjoyed that, but I’d still only get the eel again with more than 2 people to split it. For entrees the 8 delicacies was tasty, all the meat was nicely cooked and tender, and the sauce was pleasant. I wasn't super wowed by this dish compared to some of the more interesting things we tried but it was a solid well-cooked entree. The fried soft shell crab over the rice cakes was delicious and again a very unique experience. I found the sauce a tad sweet but I think I was still a little over the eel dish so I may have been extra sensitive. That being said, it was fun and delicious and I’d eat it again! I can’t remember the cocktails we bought, I know they were good but the food definitely distracted us! Little Alley was great overall and I’d love to go back to try some dumplings; sadly we were just too full at the end of the meal!
Overall great experience with all the dishes tasting pretty good; a few of my favorites were the whole steamed fish (great flavors from the soy sauce and ginger on top), salted egg fish fillet, the oxtail soup, all the dumplings. They also serve Sichuan dishes like Mapo tofu but given its a Shanghainese restaurant theres zero spice level to those dishes (still taste good though). Enjoyed dining in the old Shanghai vibes and ambiance
Little Alley in New York, NY. I love the story at Little Alley. Little Alley is a group of NYC-inhabiting Shanghaier who grew up eating and cooking great Shanghainese food. Little Alley is translated from the Chinese word “弄堂” or “long tang”, which are the narrow, interconnected alleyways unique to Shanghai. Delicious food, amazing drinks, and the sweetest staff at Little Alley in NYC! Everything we ordered hit the spot and I loved the vibe! 🌀Pork Soup Dumplings- Pork, Ginger, Oyster Sauce, Sesame Oil Pork, Ginger, Oyster Sauce, Sesame Oil 🌀Shredded Pork with Mu Shu Pancake- Shredded pork, Scallion, Cucumber, Mu Shu Pancake, Oyster Sauce, Garlic, Sesame $21 🌀Stir Fried Bok Choy with Garlic 🌀Little alley Mongolian Beef- Shredded Beef, Onion, Green and Red Pepper, Tomato Sauce. Deep Fried 🌀Shanghai Stir Fried Thick Noodle- Shrimp, Shredded Pork, Shredded Shiitake Mushroom, Romaine Stem, Thick Noodles
Cute and trendy and packed with every demographic. I highly recommend the cocktail the windmill. Creamy, frothy, light floral taste. Like a summer Coquito. Soup Dumplings were fresh, doct and flavorful. Perfect. The cauliflower was spicy and fresh and crispy and beyond amazing. The lions head aka meatball was huge, glazed, soft and flavorful. Definitely a fub thing to try if a foodie. The pork buns were fresh and soft. Tasty. Top tier service. Thanks to adam and may.
comfort shanghainese food located in midtown, ny. it felt like a home cooked meal. the pork soup dumplings is a must. loved the pork belly with the buns. the sauce paired perfectly. the fish fillet is also a must-try item. it was so flavorful and soft. overall, everything was delicious and loved the interior. the servers were super attentive.
Shanghai spot in Midtown East with a really beautiful dining room and nice cocktails. I thought the food was well prepared and tasty, maybe not top tier but quite good, and the pricing was excellent. I'd recommend the Pan Fried Pork Buns and Mongolian Beef or Shredded Pork. Their menu was maybe the nicest experience I've ever had. Each item had a high quality photograph with a detailed description of the ingredients.
I was very pleased with my dinner at @littlealleynyc and left wanting to go back for more! So many goodies on the menu at this Shanghainese restaurant. The star of the meal for us was the salted egg rice cake. So delicious! The cauliflower is a common dish but it was also cooked super well. The other dishes were yummy too and there are still so many that I’d love to try next time!
Reviewing the lunch special only, I thought it was a great value for the pepper steak (I got extra beef but regular lunches are $13-16) that comes with cucumbers and hot and sour soup. Nothing was that spicy or sour. I thought the hot and sour soup was just okay and the cucumber seemed way more sour but some how dry. and I would probably try the spring roll instead of the future. The pepper steak steak and pepper quality was good though, especially for the lunch special pricing and reheats well if you don’t finish it. The pick up was easy. I’m not sure if I would come here for dinner though.
This was a wonderful dim sum place that we went to on Sunday for brunch options. Found online, but were unable to find a menu for the brunch service that was being promoted. This made more sense when we were there, the server did not seem to know what we were talking about, come to find out the brunch and happy hour menu are one and the same. Either way for Michelin starred din sum, the price was lovely (approx $8 a serving), but the flavors were a bit lacking. While we enjoyed ourselves we did expect to enjoy the food more. Good value, but not the greatest food. The drinks shined as wonderful pre dinner offerings. The pretty lady cocktail is recommended. Overall it was more casual than fine dining. A great place to go with friends for a casual meal. Recommended for lunch
It's a nice place with premium priced dishes, OK quality food. The smoked carp has a strong earthy taste (土腥味)and overcooked; it doesn't deserves a premium price. The Xiao Long Bao (pork soup dumplings) are not my type since their wraps are too thick. A surprise is that the restaurant offers a curry fried rice where it's difficult to find among other Chinese restaurants.
Decent but no wow factor. Out of the 4 dishes we got, my favorite was probably the ribs. The poached dumplings in chili oil were good but not spicy at all. The curry chicken dumplings were a generous size but didn’t have a lot of flavor. The crab was a bit too briny for me. Service was really good though and prices are decent.
Almost authentic Shanghai dishes which are restricted by the local supplies and frozen imported ingredients. The chief creates the dishes much better than the big name international Shanghai style restaurant in the basement, especially the XiaoLongBao. This is place one can enjoin the moment when dine Real Shanghai dishes. The dishes with the photo below can be rated 9 out of 10. Friendly and knowledge waiter.
I'd rate this place lower because of the two issues we had if it weren't for the attentive staff that was very understanding and immediately handled the issues for us-- no arguing or anything. And truly, the other dishes we had were standout. Just don't make the same mistakes we did. 🙏 Overall, the food and service was very attentive, but don't bother with the preserved vegetables with pork belly. I don't think it sells well and I can see why. It was only like 7 thin slices of pork on a bulging mound of preserved vegetables. Unfortunately, those vegetables also tasted off. We notified the staff at the time and they immediately said they'd take it off our bill. Luckily, two of our party didn't eat much of the vegetables, but our third had eaten a couple mouthfuls by the time we reflected on how it tasted old. The next day their stomach was unsettled the whole day. Pea shoots also weren't as great as we were expecting. I'm not sure if it's because they had to remake ours because we made a mistake the first time when ordering it, but it wasn't as flavourful as we expected and didn't seem to have as much seafood as the photo. (Our mistake: we thought the stir-fried option would include all the seafood and egg in it just no broth, but that wasn't the case, it was just more vegetables--staff was understanding and changed it for us). Outside of those two dishes! The food was great. Highlights were the salted egg fish fillet and fish blossom. The former was probably my favourite; super light and fluffy coating, fish was soft and succulent, and the egg flavour was rich. The latter's flavour was on par to what I've had in China, and I liked how it came with some shrimp. First time having crispy eel, and that was really good. Pig ear was too.
Came for a dinner Groupon dimsum offer which made this place semi worth it for the pricing, the dimsum was average (had much better in Chinatown for half the price), service was drop off and pick up, the alcohol was strong so that was a plus, overall worth the offer, wouldn't really come without it
Came here for dinner a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty good overall. We unintentionally got to the restaurant still within dim sum happy hour pricing so got a variety of little things like soup dumplings, scallion pancakes. Overall, solid choices. For main dishes, I really loved the prawns and would definitely recommend. The menu is fairly extensive and we tried a few things but I feel like there's much more! While nothing stood out as truly stellar, it was all fairly good and reasonably priced.
