The Griffin Amersham Reviews
Came here for lunch with a friend. We are aware that Amersham has many amazing pubs and restaurants so it was stiff competition but we were absolutely blown away and happy with our choice. The whole menu looked delicious and left us struggling to choose. We decided on ordering from the set menu as it was entirely reasonably priced (~25 per head) for three courses- by the end you really are full and satisfied. Of course accompaniments like bread and drinks also add to the cost, however these are well worth it. The sourdough bread with maple butter was a standout- the sourdough is made fresh and so is still warm and lovely- but the butter was the standout. As soon as we tasted it, we each ate an even half of the butter provided- it is so moreish and indescribably tasty. We actually ordered a second round of bread just for the butter! The wine was also great, and waiters came around to to top off our glasses with the carafe even though it was next to our table in an ice bucket- excellent service. I also recommend a coffee with alcohol for afters- it is the perfect way to end a meal. We both ordered the fishcake starter, the wagyu burger main, and sticky toffee pudding dessert. All three were magnificent and surprisingly generous portions- although the starter and dessert were not 'massive' they are so high quality that they satisfy you better than large flavourless slabs of food that you find at other restaurants. The fishcake had a fabulous tartar like sauce, and you could tell that the fishcake itself was hearty and not full of filler like many fishcakes at other places. The wagyu burger comes with skinny fries which are much appreciated (neither of us are a fan of the chunky fries epidemic), and has a delicious smoky flavour from the sauce and cheese. It was a huge portion and we need a rest break after finishing that course! Yet was, again, amazingly high quality. The sticky toffee pudding was magnificent, with a really flavourful gingerbread ice cream and candied pecans that gave a satisfying texture. Ambience and service was excellent. Waitstaff were polite, attentive, and friendly, and the rustic interior is well heated and cozy- perfect for enjoying a meal. The whole experience is well worth the price, which I think is extremely fair for what you get. If you're looking for a high end place to go for good food, go here.
This was our first time here and part of a birthday treat for my wife. The Sunday lunch was the best we've experienced and a step better than the previous best that we'd had. The service was also excellent.
It’s easy to gift five stars when one experiences the Sunday roast at The Griffen. Attentive service, delightful atmosphere and food that is thoughtfully made and utterly delicious. My only complaint is that I cannot be here more often, it has been an amazing experience and one that I’m sure we will share and cherish. We will surely be back! Thank You.
Nice bistro. The Sunday roast isn’t the classic version — it’s slightly reinterpreted, which makes it unique. My chicken had a subtle smoked flavour, and the quality of the meat and preparation was excellent. Portions could be a bit more generous, as I definitely wanted more! The sides were also exceptional. The service was very attentive, and the place itself is beautiful and spotless. Highly recommended for anyone looking to try a different take on the traditional Sunday roast.
We had a Sunday roast here last week and the food was absolutely incredible - we’d go as far as to say it was the best roast dinner we’ve ever had dining out! I had the beef duo, and my partner had the chicken - both of which were excellent. The service was great too; the staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Only things I’d mention is that the food was a little too quick to come out (the table next to us had their food before their drinks had arrived). We had thankfully ordered some bread to start which slowed the meal down slightly, but even then, it was still quite quick. Secondly, the dessert we’d ordered was a little disappointing (we had the lemon meringue). It was nice, but we’d probably just skip this the next time we visit. That said, we’ve both said we can’t stop thinking about this roast dinner, so we’ll absolutely be back!
We had a fantastic lunch at The Griffin with delicious, well considered flavour combinations as well as warm and personable service. We had seen the lunch set menu online and they honoured this despite having stopped offering this on Saturdays a couple of weeks ago. The maitre d’ was excellent; perfectly balancing attentive service with knowledge of the menu and humour. Overall, we had a lovely leisurely meal and would happily return.
We went for the set menu. It was absolutely delicious and incredible value.
Absolutely outstanding!! Our first visit and definitely did not disappoint! Big thank you to Harry who served us, he’s got a wonderful manner and customer service! Food was off the scale!
I think one of the best Sunday roasts on our travels. The food is tasty and nicely served. Loved the cucumber and buttermilk soup and the koftas were so good (after having some really ordinary ones so far in England). We are planning a lunch or dinner before we leave the area.
A rare find, absolutely wonderful food. The mushroom fried thing is crazy. Amazon Burgers and very good service. Can’t wait to come back
Had a fabulous lunch here today. The food was creative, tasty and everything was fresh. Service was really lovely and attentive and also quite personable. We were made to feel very welcome. Particular highlights were the steak and the raspberry nojito. Two adults paid £172 for 3 courses, aperitifs, wine, cocktails and coffee. We will be back.
Beautiful interior, fantastic and friendly service with down to earth staff, but most of all the most mouth watering and sensational food. The roast is the best roast dinner I have ever ever had, and iv had a lot of roasts! Mouth watering and an explosion of flavour with every bite! Fantastic cocktails too! I cannot wait to go back. Brought me a 'Happy Birthday' dessert over to the table too which was lovely. x
Reunited with Chef Mikey Seferynsky who landed here at this lovely refurbished boutique hotel after blowing us away five years ago at the Three Oaks in Gerrards Cross followed by a stint at Guy Ritchie’s Lore of the Land in Fitzrovia, where we enjoyed more of his creative use of superb ingredients, treated with the respect they deserve. I’m not going to describe all the food I enjoyed, but it was probably one of the best lunches I have had in a while, including the disappointing Hand & Flowers. We’re already booked for two weeks time for our anniversary and I’m really glad Chef is once more back in our ‘hood. Go before everyone else finds out! UPDATE: Returned for breakfast: very good full English!
I don't give 5 starts loosely, but The Griffin definitely deserves one! And it absolutely worth the drive from London. The food is on a league of its own. A menu comparable to one found in a Michelin starred restaurant. Dishes are creative, fresh and delicious! My congrats to the Chef. On top of the food the venue is super nice, and its staff is professional, warm and welcoming. I will definitely be back! I fully recommend The Griffin.
From the moment we walked in, all the staff were a pleasure to speak with and made us feel so welcomed. Mains were stunning and very much a high end restaurant quality standard, desserts were to die for and I'm not a 'dessert' person. I've added a few pics but I don't think they do justice.. my thanks to ALL the Griffin team for making my Bday lunch such a memorable one. Look forward to joining you again soon
The place is amazing! The decor is lovely, the food fab! The waiter “Harry” was really attentive! Defo coming back….
Had the perfect evening at the Griffin to celebrate my partner’s birthday. Service was brilliant and staff went out their way to throw in lots of special surprises to make it a really memorable occasion - the food was amazing too, with the waiters all recommending lovely wine pairings for each course. We will be back!!
Entirely enjoyed our recent visit to The Griffin. The staff was very welcome, I was amazed by the knowledge of food and drink offering the waiting staff have. With ease, we were advised what wine to pair with our food choices. The food was excellent, perfect combinations of ingredients in season. Chef Mikey amazed us once again with his exceptional experience delivering stunning dishes to his new menu.
Love the Griffin - welcoming sociable people with passion for the food and drink. Everything on the menu is delicious - can’t go wrong ! Good for a casual lunch or a blow out dinner. Great cocktails and wine.
Superb dinner 10/10 for Cote de Boeuf, all the bits that came with it were outstanding in their own right. Relaxing decor . Great cocktails . Comprehensive wine list which is well looked after considering most wines are offered by the glass wines & Coravin used to keep them fresh. Service was prompt, slick and friendly. A great night out. A must try!!!
This is probably the best place for Sunday lunch locally ! Lovely friendly service, good menu to suit all tastes, delicious and comforting as a Sunday lunch should be.
The best Sunday Lunch I have ever tasted.. Beautiful ambience, every dish was perfect, the desserts were works of art and tasted amazing. Front of house staff were attentive and advised on some fab wine pairings..Well done Mikey and Team...You have something pretty special here, Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.. xx
It is always a pleasure to visit the Griffin. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the venue is beautiful and the food is always delicious. The staff are knowledgeable about what is on the menu and highlighting what exciting fresh local produce is being used. We now have experienced the lunch, dinner and Sunday roasts, and none have disappointed!
This has to be one of Amersham’s hidden gems! OMG! What an amazing culnary journey I had the delight to experience on a Sunday afternoon. We met the owner Jo (dude) and Ella was our EPIC hostess, she made every moment amazing. Ella was so good with my kids and accommodated every need even though they were Hangry! They made it feel like a date night with my wife. The food was faultless and I actually felt as though I was in a Central London location. This is a great place to visit and I can’t wait to try the Al A Cart menu! Keep up the great work team! On another note, if you visit make sure you check out all the hand picked artwork from Jo. Your eyes will be pleased!
Wonderful brunch! Everything about this venue is good. A simple, but stand-out, brunch menu with well-executed preparations makes me want to go back regularly. The hollandaise was a highlight that made the entire salmon and eggs Beni on croissant an exceptional dish!
We don't give 5 star reviews lightly, but the Griffin deserves it. From its 1700 beautifully maintained interior to the Baked Baron Bigod pie (you have to try it!). A 5 star experience. The chefs and customer service staff are to be commended
Absolutely delicious food and a warm, cosy atmosphere. It is a great spot to relax and enjoy a tasty meal.
It was absolutely amazing. Great atmosphere from the moment we arrived, fantastic food and an excellent service throughout our meal. We absolutely loved our Sunday roast and can confirm it’s the best Sunday roast we have ever had.
We chose The Griffin for my partners 40th birthday family meal as we have been previously and really enjoyed it, but I'm always a little nervous of dining experiences in large groups as it can be chaotic with a lower quality of food....however! The food and service were excellent and we had a great time. Thanks to all the staff and in particular our server (whose name I can't recall) who was great. We will be back!
Booked and ate here on Saturday 31st January 10 of us for 90th Birthday The service was outstanding very warm welcome on arrival! Food was outstanding my whole family enjoyed the evening absolutely loved it!
We ordered the 3 course lunch. Great ambiance with excellent service. Food was delicious at The Griffen. Shall be booking for an evening experience very soon.
An excellent restaurant that's very well run, by a great team who really know what they're doing and really look after you. The place itself is fantastic - an old building that's been very well done up, and offers a lovely, atmospheric dining environment. The food & drink on offer more than matches up to the surroundings - the menu is tweaked fairly regularly, and there's always something tasty on offer.
Amazing, such a great menu. Lovely friendly staff with good service. Fantastic if your are coeliac or have allergies.
Our first visit and not our last . The Christmas food menu was outstanding . We think the best we have ever had . Everything was full of flavour . Very generous portions . Desserts were to die for .very reasonable for such quality . Staff went above and beyond .
My friend and I were looking for somewhere nice to have lunch. Well we found it. Our waiter Bobby, was very efficient and a pleasant young man. The food was excellent, I chose fishcake to start and burger for main. Both delicious. My friend had soup and the fish and chips. Both meals presented well. Would highly recommend this restaurant. We are definitely visiting again. Maybe try the Sunday lunch, I've heard that is very good.
Delicious Sunday lunch on a rainy afternoon! We had the beef and lamb which were both lovely and atmosphere was cosy and relaxed.
Wonderful experience at The Griffin, celebrating our daughter's birthday. We went for the Sunday roast plus had a nice array of starters. Each and every dish was beautifully crafted and delicious, we could tell how much care and attention had gone into every course. The starters were varied and light, the main courses were sumptuous and hearty with so many taste profiles - perfect for a December Sunday afternoon. We finished the meal with a mix of desserts and coffees, they were all amazing! We were also extremely impressed at the lovely service received, from a warm greeting, to several young but extremely mature, professional and friendly staff members. The ambience for a Sunday was bustling without being too frantic and friendly without being too overbearing. We are now hooked and will be back to sample the a la carte and lunch menus, 10 out of 10 to the entire Griffin team, an establishment that you should all be very proud of!
Our mid week visit was exceptional in every way to say the least. The food was cooked to perfection by a kitchen that still has passion in their craft, this was also complimented by an outstanding service from Stuart and the team. Many thanks, we’ll definitely be coming back!! 💫
A huge thank you to the team at The Griffin for making our Dad’s 80th dinner so memorable. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious - we had a mix of ages with us and we were all catered for brilliantly. Can not recommend this wonderful restaurant enough.
Birthday celebration lunch. A big thank you to all the staff at The Griffin for looking after me and my guests yesterday! I had an amazing lunch party! Starting with a private champagne drinks for 11 in the Assembly room which was very special and decorated with balloons and we were well looked after by our own waitress. Canapés were delicious ! Then we moved down to the private area at the front of the restaurant. This was a good idea as my Amersham friends know how to party 🥳. We had an amazing lunch and again Harry the manager could not have been more attentive… he is a great asset to the restaurant!! A big thank you to Joe the owner for making my birthday celebration lunch so special.
We held our engagement party at The Griffin, and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish! The private space was ideal - it felt intimate and personal, just what we wanted for our celebration. Ella, the events coordinator, was incredible throughout the whole process. She was so organised, friendly, and made everything completely stress-free. On the night, the bar staff were amazing too. They were so attentive, welcoming, and really added to the great atmosphere. The canapés were also exceptional, we had so many compliments. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about how lovely the venue was and how smoothly everything ran. Huge thank you to Ella and the whole team at The Griffin for making our night so special!
A celebratory lunch for my parents wedding. Great food, service and atmosphere. Our third visit and will definitely return again! Would recommend the set lunch menu which is great value for money - only a couple of us had it on the table, but some good choices on there!
Table for five & a baby on the 11th January, 2026! We are constantly searching for that near perfect, Sunday roast lunch. We found PERFECT! Typical roast with a twist of something tantalising in taste, presentation & service! Roast chicken & beef ordered. Tastes & textures exploded in your mouth! This chef is not a cook! Professionalism to a T! We will return again & again. On a par with The Mulberry in Chiddingfold. Exceptional! The delicious desert tastes….. lingered well on throughout the day.. along with our praise! Don’t miss out on this little gem… it’s a rarity!
Had a really good 3 course lunch yesterday as part of a birthday celebration. Truly excellent service - very attentive without being a pain. Every dish was excellent on each course. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Wouldn't hesitate to revisit or recommend to discerning friends.
Had many a dinner here, very good. Great wine . Sunday lunch is fantastic.
Lovely food, signature drinks, great atmosphere, good service. The interior design work of that place is superb 👏🏻
Portions are normal . Some dishes are lovely some are ok for the price Recommend veal for main and the broccoli with the wings for starter is good
Oh dear. We have visited The Griffin often and came to celebrate our son’s 30th birthday but were completely underwhelmed with our experience. The food was delicious, as it has been before, but unfortunately the service was shambolic. Our first 3 choices of wine were unavailable; starters were plonked down in front of us; we had to ask for cutlery for our main course 3 times from 3 different waiters (and when it did eventually arrive we were given starter sized knives as apparently all full sized knives were in the dishwasher - I got up and retrieved some appropriate cutlery from an nearby empty table); a mint tea took forever to arrive; when one of the waiters suggested we see the manager, and we agreed, nobody declaring to be the manager came to see us. Frankly, I am disappointed and expected better. It felt like an afternoon at a chain pub, albeit with great food. It has been so much better on multiple occasions in the past. Please get your act together and invest some time in your staff so they don’t let you down on a busy Sunday.
Service was patchy in areas, waited a while for drinks and got served the wrong main albeit they did take this off the bill as a good will gesture. Food is pleasant but quite salty. Not a terrible experience but unlikely to return although I hear good things about the Sunday roasts!
Seriously disappointed with how downhill The Griffin has gone. We have visited quite a number of times before and the food was exceptional, unfortunately since the last two head chefs have left the place isn’t the same. The food quality was awful, both the lamb and the pork belly were completely dry and over cooked. When the lamb was replaced it came back even more overcooked than the first time! Neither me or my husband could eat our main courses as they were so bad so we left pretty hungry. It didn’t help that it was for a birthday celebration on a rare night away from our kids and we were sat next to a large group with screaming children at 9pm on a Friday night- although appreciate that isn’t the restaurants fault. We were due to go back for another birthday celebration at the end of the month but have quickly cancelled that reservation.
