Good food and nice art on the walls.
Great food and good service
Excellent Sunday brunch
Great Menu for Great Food
Superb cocktails.
Consistently awesome
We were well-attended by staff and felt very relaxed and at home. The food was so fresh and perfectly portioned for sharing. Highly recommend.
Received a gift certificate for this restaurant and was not disappointed. Great food, with unique flavour combinations. Food was served quickly.
Had great lunch and the server was helpful substituting for us. Really nice desserts to boot. First rate service and food.
A delicious meal from beginning to end. The halibut was perfectly cooked, the recipes imaginative. Don't skip the salads and desserts.
Great brunch options! Fresh squeezed juices! Chill relax atmosphere where you can get in and out without long waits or issues!!!
“A Classic” I have always loved, and still do, the shakes, malts, fried chicken, burgers, shoe-string fries. It never changes and it's a classic in my heart.
Always a great place. And I've heard that the wine list is beyond what is expected from any Anchorage venue. A true gem.
We had our first date here in September 1997, and had dinner here the final evening they were open, 8/24/2017...so sorry to see Sacks go, but looking forward to Crush Bistro opening in same location!
Food, view, service were incredible. Although we had a full meal, I could sit in the bar for hours just looking a the view.
I absolutely love the lunch menu item; Thai Chicken sandwich, it's definitely a must try!
This place has the best food and service i have had ever at a restaurant. This place is a must go.
This is a must stop every time I go home to anchorage just a great atmosphere to meet some one new or catch up with an old friend.
Great place in the middle of downtown for a nice meal and drinks with friends.
Amazing breakfast! I look forward to trying dinner :)
Great food and no wait for lunch
"Outstanding breakfast options, ambiance, and staff."
The food is consistently great and service is top notch. Atmosphere is relaxing and it feels like you've left Anchorage in a good way while you are at Sack's. Servers are great as well, genuinely nice people. The entrees are great but for a smaller meal my favorite to order...the filet burger with bacon or one of the salads.
A fantastic restaurant with incredible food, beautiful presentation, and an amazing atmosphere. I went here once and ordered coffee and a few small plates, then went back over a month later and the bartender remembered my order. If I could afford it I would gladly eat here for every meal. If you visit anchorage without dining at Sacks you are severely missing out.
We had dinner here one night during our 2 week stay in Alaska It was one of our favorite meals. The scallops with mashed potatoes and veggies were excellent. The only thing that was not as good as other places was the seafood chowder. It was thin and not as tasty but overall a great experience.
Delicious food, fresh décor Our party of three diners was delighted to find Sacks Café in downtown Anchorage on June 18, 2015. We wanted to stay away from the large eateries geared to groups of tourists staying in downtown Anchorage hotels. Sacks Café was everything we wanted it to be - our entrees were inventive and delicious, the décor was attractive, service was excellent and the price of the meal was most reasonable considering the quality of the food. We started with a nice green salad and crab cakes as appetizers, both of which were very good. For entrees, two out of our party of three had the Alaska halibut ($35), the third diner had the Alaska Copper River Red Salmon ($28). Both were delicious, but all agreed that the salmon was superb, the best we ever had. We shared a lovely lemon tart dessert recommended by our waitress. It was both tart and sweet, with tart predominating. A perfect ending to a great meal!
Staff was very accommodating and chef customized our meal. Berkshire Hog Ribeye was fabulous, so moist, tender and juicy. Will definitely be going back
My boyfriend and I were originally downtown to eat at Haute's Grill. We were having one hell of a time finding on-street parking and ended up finding a spot a couple blocks away right in front of Sack's. What a spot!! We were completely impressed by the time we left. He had gotten the Australian Lamb (YUM) and I had the Wild Hog dinner with an Arugula Salad (YUM YUM!!)! The chef does an amazing job and the beautiful woman who served us really topped off our experience. Thank you!! 💕
Absolutely charming little place with delicious, refreshing food. Had the vegetarian eggs benedict and fresh-squeezed orange juice - so delicious! I adore this little cafe and its setup, food, service - highly recommended.
Sacks is a small lovely restaurant with high quality food. The service is wonderful. They have a great selection of wines. Also I enjoy that they have healthy options.
Pretty good all around
“Hands Down HomeCooking at its Best!!!” ok it doesn't matter what you pick here its good food, from the fried chicken to the pies. great service and atmosphere for the family to al go together.
If you want great food, beer, and service this is the place to go. However you will pay anywhere from 30$ to 40$ per diner, so i would leave the kids at home.
Must have the tomato soup. That was the most memorable part of my experience eating here. On more than one occasion. It's good!
The food and service were excellent, but one of the more pricey places in Anchorage.
Service was slow. Food and drinks were good. Atmosphere was nice!
Beautiful paintings, good food, excellent dessert. Also, their focaccia was a nice change after tasting the dry, bland bread over at the Brewhouse. Their Blackened Scallop and Shrimp salad was very good, however, the candied walnuts on it didn't make sense (their sweetness was unnecessary, and even unwelcome, due to the sweet/tangy dressing already on the salad). The chocolate creme brulee was to-die-for though!
Sacks would be a great cafe/restaurant anyway but it was especially enjoyable in downtown Anchorage. Service was excellent and food quaity and portion size was spot on. The great thing about sacks is its committment to being a good restaurant and not trying to be "Alaskan" or catering to the tourist trade. Rice bowl with salmon at lunch was delicious as was the lemon pot de creme. Interior is bright and inviting. Two thumbs up.
Recently taken over by Crush wine bar! Food was good and we enjoyed the drinks also. Cocktails available as well as wines. Had fun talking with the waitress.
Had the veggie tart. Flavor was nice but the bottom side of the crust was so tough, even the knife couldn't cut through it. We won't be back.
Slow kitchen and bar service. Average food. Won't eat there again.
The evening started out well...... The crab and scallop cakes on aioli were some of the best we had ever had (though it is easier to squeeze lime cut longitudinally.) The lentil soup with reindeer was perfect; spicy and al dente, and the colorful and crisp house salad had a magnificent vinaigrette and just the right amount of feta. The bread was delicate, and that is not all bad, but by no means up to the rest of the dinner; a sliced baguette from Fire Island Bakery might have made a better choice. And then things went, well South. While I enjoy a leisurely meal, waiting the better part of an hour for the entree was a bit much, and while our waitress was wonderful, I was surprised that we were not offered complimentary beverages considering the delay. Having largely consumed our bottle of Catena Mendoza waiting for the entrees, and one of us having to drive, another bottle was out of the question. An offer of a glass on the house would have been courteous. Finally the entrees appeared. My breast of duck was tasty, not withstanding the fact that the duck skin was under-cooked and the cold breast had completely suffocated the pastry below into a soggy puddle. It is strange that after such a delay the chef could not manage a hotter pan for the sear. For those who don't know, the duck should be cooked so that it is still quacking, which requires an insanely hot skillet to first crisp the skin side and then quickly sear the reverse. In this case, the duck had simply not been properly cooked, but even then, it might have been acceptable had the flatware been up to cutting the duck. What with the tippy table I almost toppled the wine trying to saw through the breast. My companion had the putanesca that wasn't -- it showed up, yes, but it was, in wife's words (and she is no stranger to Italian cooking) "a fishy marinara". While she may have preferred it Neapolitan style, a seafood putanesca is a quick dish, not a reduced fish stew. She grumbled, tried to shake the sauce off the fish and pronounced the few pieces of shrimp, rockfish and salmon delicious (but for the sauce, of course.) The clams? They had been cooked for sooooo long that all one could find were exhausted empty shells. Could it get any worse? Thankfully I had seen the Apple Cake go by earlier and, it looking like a caramel drenched bread pudding I pounced on it and a Warres; I was not disappointed. The wife tucked into a "Russian Creme", and while it was no Creme Russe it was incredibly light with just the right amount of citrus from the spare fruit garnish. Well worth the $200 tab for food, beverage and gratuity? Sorry, no. But we will give Sacks another try.
Expensive and not great
I was still hungry after eating here. Which is unfortunate, due to the high priced menu. I would Not recommend this restaurant. Sorry.
Very disappointed! Had a great atmosphere and nice decor. I went in for Saturday breakfast and had the Sacks Skillet two eggs, sunny side up – served over sautéed kale, onion, garlic & tomato potatoes, warm lemon basil vinaigrette, feta. The potatoes were overcooked along with the eggs. The burnt potatoes gave the dish a very bitter taste. My waitress seemed to forget about me since it was just me and not once did she ask if my food was ok.
Lunch was not that good. Had the club with salad. Service was slow. When I finally got the food, both the salad and dressing was warm like it had been sitting under the warmer for a while. The sandwich was not that great. Worse of all the lettuce was soggy. The fresh orange juice was the only good thing. 2 stars.
We arrived at 7:40 pm meeting a couple we were hosting from our company. HDR Engineering. We ordered as soon as our server came to our table. 9:10 pm our dinners finally arrived. We asked to have the couples dinners to go!!! They had their 2 year old daughter with them. We stayed and had some of our dinner. It wasn't even hot!!! We watched other tables get their food, and 3 tables that came in after us got their food before us. The service sucked!! The server should have been on top of this and she wasn't. We aren't sure who was to blame, kitchen or server. We bring clients and upper management here from different states and this has never happened. Not sure if we will return. Very disappointed in the service. Food was just ok, nothing to brag about.
Had a very expensive dinner here, which would have cost me at most a third had I prepared it at home in Chicago. Waiter was overheard discussing the state of my mental health of all things offensively in disparaging and unprofessional terms...hmm, I guess I must be doing something right if I have the job I do, manage my income and have enough left over to travel to your corner of the world. Guess you don't want my custom for some reason and feel you can offend those who don't measure up to your arbitrary standards at will, though you're a waiter. I suppose you were sorry I can't travel with an entourage and bring you more business. Since I work for a Federal agency and interact with those who enforce immigration law it was tempting to say something about the Russian maitre'd and his imported sullenness...I won't be back even though I travel frequently to Anchorage.
No longer sacks it's Crush. Over priced and confused menu with terrible service. Won't be back.
