Shillelagh Tavern Astoria Reviews
Been going to The Shillelagh for almost 15 years now and while the place has changed over time, it's still one of my favorite bars in the city. Some of my greatest memories were made here and to this day they foster a sense of community with the Astoria neighborhood and their clientele like no other. Between the open mics on Wednesdays or the buffets for special sports events, the great and powerful Rusty behind the bar and the absolute legends that are the regulars; you'd be hard pressed to not find yourself having a good time here. Cheers Shillelagh, I love ya.
Corey is the man! Great pours, good talks, fantastic local bar We shoot some darts, hung out with the owners Grandpa- Bob. It was a wonderful time. Place is a total gem, hope to be back soon! Thank you!
Great little music venue for you to find your new favorite band!
I was looking for a new karaoke bar to attend. I found out Shillelagh Tavern is an active venue for shows, open mic jamm sessions and karaoke. I went there on a Saturday night on karaoke night. It's starts a bit late. At 11:30 pm you can start picking your songs. I like the crowd. There were a lot of good singers. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. The bar itself is also great. They have a great selection of beers and well drinks. All the bartenders I dealt with were professional and quick to attend to me. I recommend this lovely little off the beaten path watering hole. They don't sell food there, but they hold the menus for several take out places on the block. You can order from the menu and they will deliver it to you.
This is a great bar. I visited on Sat 28 September whilst on vacation from Liverpool (UK), to watch my team Liverpool FC play Wolves. Within the first five minutes I knew that I was going to have a good experience, when I heard the barman talking to a couple of locals, reminiscing about the drunken night before that they had enjoyed together in the bar. There was a good atmosphere here, and the Guinness was good too. After the match I got talking to a couple of friendly local lads who tried to buy me a drink and asked me to have a shot with them. They also tried to persuade me to move on with them for food but I had already eaten. Top fellas. I am going to try and get back here when I am next in New York.
Went here to play on a Saturday night (thanks for having us and shoutout to the sound guy as he did a great job) and ended up staying after until 3am. This place is great, very friendly bartender (wanna say his names was Jeffrey? Sorry if it's not!). Good vibes. I don't live close by but it would definitely be a local hang spot if I did. Highly recommend.
A warm inviting Irish bar with- surprise! A beautiful stage set up with wonderful sound man and of course-Sunday nights the treat is seeing legendary music promoter FRANK WOOD work his magic.Another surprise - the bar regulars actually come to the back room to listen to the music! Friendly crowd , nice bartenders, generous drinks! Easily accessible from R train- come visit this gem of a bar!
THE Friendliest Bar In Queens !!! Great Atmosphere.Always lively, never dull. Awesome Live Music. Superb Staff. Strangers quickly become friends. Make the trip from Manhattan to Astoria. 100% worth the trip...
Great atmosphere, great service; all are welcome and not Manhattan prices. Always a great time Shillelagh's!!! There's live open mic Wednesday, Karaoke Saturday; concerts by great local (NY) artists from acoustic to Rock/Metal and last but not least finally we even have amazing Rap artists coming from all corners of the Boroughs and perform. All of it originated thanks to 1Man/1Bartender and Rusty is his name.
Great atmosphere and top notch friendly service. The front section (at the bar) is spacious enough for a small group to sit and stand together. There’s also a back lounge section, behind the curtain, with a stage, long narrow tables, stools and a couch. I was there for an Imrpov comedy show on a Monday night and was very comfortable for the entire 3 hours I was there. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. I had some beer for happy hour and the prices were just right. I didn’t eat or check to see if they served food so I can’t speak on that but overall it’s a great place and I’ll definitely be back.
One of those lovely neighborhood taverns "were everybody knows your name" super friendly staff and patrons. Very friendly bartenders - I'm partial to Rusty he's been there at as long as the ten years I've been going there. What really makes this place great is their open mike nights. The musicians and singers are always top notch two regulars L-Train and Sweet Magma really stand out in my mind however I've seen a ton of really talented artsts there. So if looking for a good time without the fuss and snobbery I could not more highly recommend this little gem!
A good neighborhood bar and now a magnet for LFC fans. Plenty of events, and a nice space in the back for traveling or local bands and regular open mic nights. But overall a solid bar, a nice draft selection (albeit limited) with a mix of craft, import and bud light. Check it out, it might be the local for you.
Great place to go and have some fun with your friends. Full bar as well as dart boards in the back, steel tipped only. They don't serve food here, so eat up before you go. Tuesdays sees a Mario Cart Tournament, where the winner gets a $50 bar credit. Loads of fun, but either bring your A-game if you plan on trying to win or expect to lose. Either way, it's lots of fun and nearly everyone is a good sport about it.
this business was recently handed over to different owners. they've remodeled the inside and have taken out so much of what gave shillelagh its personality and attitude. yes, now place looks new, but now i dont even recognize the place. i used to come here to have fun dates with my wife....
