Shiner's Saloon Austin Reviews
No food here, so grab a bite before visiting. The ambience was great and the drinks were decent. The old fashioned was heavy on the syrup, but after adding a double shot it evened out. Espresso martini was just what the doctor ordered. Live music seemed like it would be good, but we had to leave before they started. Would come back, though, to try again! There's was a couple of corporate events happening so we didn't get to check out the 2nd story or rooftop.
Speakeasy was such a vibe! Perfect downtown Austin spot with a great atmosphere, hilarious comedy, and incredible drinks. The location makes it easy to explore the city after, too! Huge shout-out to the bartender—she was working solo and absolutely crushed it with her energy and service. Definitely coming back for more laughs and cocktails! 🍸😂✨
This place is always fun! The Lonestar Souvenirs is a great band. They can sing just about anything. They make it a fun atmosphere. We caught them one time following a comedy show. Now I believe they are the best band in the Austin area.
This place was very fun and of course it helped a lot that I was with a fantastic group of people. The food was very good as were the drinks. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the ability to actually talk a lot with my friends. We had a great time
We were lucky enough to join the Spazmatics performance, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The venue pays great attention to detail, creating a lively and engaging environment. After the concert, we went up to the rooftop, and shortly after, the DJ arrived and crafted the evening perfectly by playing music of our choice. It was a memorable night, and we will definitely be returning!
Great place for live music. We had a work function here and it was a blast. We had bowling, pool, shuffleboard and ping pong, along with 2 stages of music. Plenty of bars and servers to handle the crowd. Will definitely be back when in the area again.
Great bar to hold CarinvalATX. ADA wheelchair ♿️. Parking is rough and must be paid. But once you get inside Carnival, it's awesome with feathers and samba music...body painters and great music. A must go to. I am one of the body artist...come see me or Ruth. She is one of the greatest.
The BEST part of my trip to Austin was discovering this spot. The bartender, Jesse, treated me like we had been friends for years and gave excellent service as well as advice about Austin, things to do, and places to go. She and Speakeasy were easily the best part of my trip to Texas and I will recommend this spot to EVERYONE.
The waitress was on point despite them being packed! We came to see the Spazmatics, and as usual, they did not disappoint! The drinks were good, and we grabbed a hot dog from the vendor outside...man, that was delicious!!! Can't wait to come again.
This is an amazing spot, love how easy going it is. Micheal was my bartender all night and he was incredibly personable, funny and overall created a welcoming environment. He had some good jokes too so be sure to ask him for a joke, but he made this experience amazing!
Great service. everyone who works here is super friendly and kind. Cool vibe. Wooden floors, great bands. Little comedy club in the back that most people don’t know about also a second level. Free popcorn.
Speakeasy Austin, which is located on Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas, is a great spot for cocktails + live music in ATX! Per their website, "Speakeasy, located in the historic Kreisle Building, which was built in the 1870’s, has been continuously serving up great live music and great cocktails since 1997. Speakeasy is composed of three levels; the Music Lounge, the Bowling Mezzanine (which overlooks the Music Lounge stage) and the Ballroom, the Kabaret Room and the rooftop lounge, Terrace59." I recently visited for the first time for their New Year's Eve festivities with my boyfriend + a group of our friends, and we had a wonderful experience! The Spazmatics were one of the featured bands on NYE, and Speakeasy's space was perfect for experiencing live music. :-) In terms of their drinks, they make a great margarita, and the bartenders were very efficient & kind during our visit. The space within Speakeasy is huge, so there is so much to explore when you visit! I'm looking forward to returning here in the future - this is a great spot, go check them out!
Walked in on a Saturday night as a stop and my wife's and my 1st anniversary tour. The lonestars? I think that was the name, were playing. A very talented 3 piece band. We danced to the cranberries song they played and felt very welcomed by the crowd. Only had 1 beer then left but need come back again!
Highly recommend this place because of how large of a space it is. And the rooftop and multiple floors where you can find a quiet place or find a more happening place based on whatever you're feeling.
Loved this place! Bartender was kind and drink prices were fair/average. The singer performing was very funny and excellent as well. Bathrooms were clean! Drinks were strong and tasty. The rooftop is very cute. I love the inside decor and furniture. It wasn’t too crowded, but I assume it gets busier on weekends. Definitely a must try spot! We had a great time. View is nice too!
Absolutely a great evening. Photo op with the Frost Bank Tower was my plan, met some nice people who worked at Shiner's and a few surrounding areas. It took a little bit to get my food order, the bartender was super nice. Thank you for the step back in time for my genealogy research here as well. Laid back and chill time. Not busy as it was a weeknight. I recommend, I'll definitely return! Thank you, everything was clean too!
Not what I thought of when I saw speakeasy. I was expecting a trapdoor or something of the sort but it was just old school decorations. And lots of stairs. There's one side that goes all the way up to the third floor but then you have to go all the way down to switch more stairs to go up to the second floor so lots of stairs. And it's the smaller ones so if you're not paying attention you can slide down them or if you're drunk.
Great place for live music. The upstairs roof top patio is off the hook. There's usually a Dj and full bar. Smoking area. The dance floor is awesome for live music. Two bars on the second floor. There is not much seating area unless you pay for it, but you get full service from a full bar and food service. It's worth it. My drink never went dry.
A good venue to watch live music. The night we went there was very good 1990s cover band performing. The bartenders definitely have to hustle...very loud place with tons of people. Worth stopping by.
I like the outdoor patio upstairs with cornhole. It can be very loud when they have live music. I like inside the bar (nice and quiet and comfortable) and they have a photo booth! The staff is always very nice. Just be aware there is a good amount of taxidermy for decoration.
Place is cool. Retro saloon/dive bar vibe. Had a cool band playing during football. Digger the vibe of this places Atmosphere. Service was…meh. The bartender was rude to females and mixed drinks are from a gun, which is all empty. Ordered a mule, had no ginger beer. Ordered a Paloma, no soda water. For the love of god if you can’t make drinks at least make sure the premixed is good to go. Still a cool Vibe.
Bearded bartender got mad when I walked in and asked the kitchen if they minded if I put and order in. (It was 1:27) and planned to pay her $50 For the inconvenience. I went to bar to order because she told I had three minutes. I explained why I was I talking to her in the window and he became very aggressive and basically told me kick rocks. The funny thing is that I have been in there on multiple occasions and hung out with him and jammed out to some metal And he seemed like a decent dude. I will now avoid this place because it of him. If he would like to apologize and admit he did ever reacted then I will accept. Sincerely the guy with the Texas Tech Jacket and the cowboy hat. P.s.take a shower
Terrible service. At one point a couple walked out because the bartender didn't even acknowledge then and it was not crowded. We walked in and were the only customers and the bartender had her nose burried in her phone. Took her 5 minutes to acknowledge us. Then would disappear minutes at a time.
Total dump, small variety, dirty, annoying, and rude staff. It has 2 stars because I felt generous. I feel that the music outside is cool and fun. The staff really is rude. It wasn't even crowded when I was there, and it was almost as if they were mad people were there. The wine is disgusting, and maybe even aspires to be disgusting. I realize it's supposed to be like a rural Texas roadhouse type theme, but a rural Texas Roadhouse still has nice staff, and is certainly cleaner. However, this dump is in literally the middle of Austin, so you can keep the image and vibe of road house, but try to be clean, and friendly. Also, it's a risk ordering a cocktail here, and there is no valid reason to order wine here.
Very cool front door and sign! Was excited to see inside until we met the bartender. No personality and not personable whatsoever. He was rude! Unfortunately, it’s a very cool atmosphere. Hopefully when you come there’s another bartender. This was the male bartender and has nothing to do with the female. Just disappointed in what we thought would be a cool vibe place.
Went in on Wednesday night 4 bartenders and all ignore me ….. sad but true….. bad part is I’m one of four in whole bar from 6:45 to 8:00 o’clock
Experienced the most racist band on 2/28/26. The lead singer wished a white man a, “Happy Birthday, Nick-err.” While my black best friends were in the crowd. And who did they kick out, my black friends. End of story.
I have hosted 3 events at speakeasy. The first one was amazing, the staff was so helpful and everything went great. Our second event was absolutely horrible. Management was completely unresponsive, we had multiple A/V issues and could not get in contact with anyone. We sent an email detailing our complaints and received no response. After this, we were under the impression that speakeasy was under new management so we decided to book again (only because the rooftop venue is very nice and we alll loved it). Once again we had the worst experience. I’ve been an event planner for 5 years and speakeasy is by far the worst venue i’ve ever worked with. The staff is beyond rude and the management has no respect for customers who have spent multiple thousands of dollars on their event. We are so upset that we decided to take a second chance on them considering they are by far the worst venue in Austin to book with. We also had multiple complaints of the bouncer assaulting attendees when they were entering. He patted me down and said “best day of my life” after feeling my crotch. Would never recommend anyone to book an event at this absolutely awful
I want this guy fired because what was the reason for him to follow me down the street and throw a pitcher of ice water in my face when I was leaving, I was not asked to leave.I was leaving to go home to my house in Maxwell.I was waiting for my Uber, as you can see in the photograph. The water on the ground and the pitcher in his hand as he was walking away after he assaulted me, you can also see how far away from the door I was along with the puddle on the ground. I couldn't get a picture of his face because he covered it, he also knocked my phone out of my hand I want him fired or I'm suing this bar for assault. And I will be expecting a full refund of the money.I did spend in there when I was on my way home from a job waiting for my Uber to come.Get me refund , bouncer fired or you get sued
11.50 for a shot of the worst whiskey I've ever had and a Coors tallboy. Local cook, wearing cook clothing. This place used to be alright, but they have sold their souls. 11.50? What the hell man. Will not return
I’m beyond frustrated having to write this. This was the ONLY place where I used my debit card that day—no other card transactions! Then at around 5 a.m. the next morning, my account was drained by unauthorized Walmart and Klarna charges. During my visit, the lady bartender asked for my name and looked at the back of my card. I can’t prove exactly how my information was compromised, but the timing and circumstances make this incredibly upsetting and unacceptable. This experience cost me real money, time, and stress. I expected a safe and professional environment, and instead I was left dealing with fraud. I strongly recommend using cash or a credit card if you come here.
Garbage food. They just threw some "brisket" in a cold tortilla and rolled like a burrito. Like a cold burrito. When I said "I ordered the tacos". He said "those are the tacos". Then proceeded to never look up from his phone. I couldn't eat it even though I was starving. Thought about taking it home to my dog but she wouldn't eat that. Bartender never looked up from his phone the whole time. 6 people were in the bar.
