Blue Ruin rules. It's dark, the music is loud, and the service is no-nonsense. Have your ID out for the bouncer in advance, know what you're going to order when you go up to the bar, and have a great time. They don't really make bars like this any more (closing at 4am every day of the week, meaning plenty of industry folks at night) and I'm glad that this one survives in Manhattan. There's even a pool table!

I found this dive bar to be awesome! It was close to our hotel so it offered a cheaper option to drink before heading out. It has so much character!

One of my favorite go to spots when I'm checking out Manhattan's dive bar scene! It has that authentic, gritty vibe that's just perfect for a laid-back night out.

Visit this bar to shoot around with some of the top pool players from around New York and abroad. Award winning customer service! Cool vibe. Warm people. The owner ( AJ) makes you feel like a million bucks! I visited this place once and never stopped attending. You gotta try Blue Ruin at least once!!!!!!!

Trying to find a good pool tables nearby on Columbus Circle led me 20 blocks south to this lovely dive bar with a Diamond table, ample space around it, and from what I could tell a decent community of regular shooters. Even on St. Paddy’s day weekend, it didn’t feel overcrowded or overwhelming. Will def keep it in mind when visiting family in the city. Only comments, and this is for the pool shooters and lovely owner I met. 1. Pace of play. The pool games there were slooooow. 15 minutes per game on average while I waited. By the time I was up, it was already time to do. What coulda/shoulda been a 35-45 minutes wait took 1.5hrs. Maybe it was the evening, but g’damn. Also, the pile of misfit cues in the corner which all had issues. Cull the herd and get a few new house cues in there. Nothing negative, just constructive ❤️

This is easily one of my favorite dive bars in NYC! The bartender was incredibly sweet and attentive, and I truly enjoyed chatting and sharing laughs with her. The rock and metal music was fantastic, with a constant stream of great songs—totally my vibe. I also met some amazing people here and had an absolute blast. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Great bar with cheap beer (for Manhattan). If you're looking for a bar with a local crowd and some metal on the jukebox this is the place. You won't find fancy upscale nonsense in this place; just regular people drinking regular stuff. They have a pool table, which is cool. The bartender was right on top of things and there was plenty of good conversation. $4 Rolling Rock cans; you can't go wrong.

It was great to be back at Blue Ruin after more than five years, great atmosphere as always and the best place to party after Rock and heavy metal shows on near by venues, Hammerstein, MSG, Play Station Theater etc. Fairly priced drinks right in midtown, great service from Marcos.

One of the best dives in NY. The drinks are reasonably priced, the bartenders are always great and make it a fun night. Highly recommend if you're looking for good drinks at a great dive.

Definitely one of my favorite dives in NYC. The bartender was so lovely and attentive and had a nice time chatting and laughing with her! Loved the rock/metal music and continously good songs that would play! Def my style and will Def be back! Met the coolest people in here too and had a blast. With love from Savannah!

Rock' n Roll from the 90's, a good pool, a beautiful big wooden bar and a variety of beers and Bourbons. A great vintage cash register, in great condition and working. An American bar by definition. What more could you ask for? A menu with some elaborate drinks would be nice. It doesn't offer food (at least when we went Saturday night)

Place is very loud lol. They mostly play American music eventhough I went for maybe less than an hour so perhaps theyd add different music. Employees are very helpful and they have a pool table. Affordable to have a couple drinks and long island iced tea was the bomb! So perhaps I'll pay another visit. Perhaps one of the greatest bars nearby since theres many of bars around.

This place is not my typical hang but I knew I had to try it out after the reviews. When we arrived to this dimly lit grungy cavern, we were greeted by a curt bartender who when asked about the beers on special told us to go look by the door (it kind of added to the atmosphere so I wasn’t upset lol). She eventually warmed up to us, I mean we’re friendly Canadians, how can you not? We decided to go for the happy hour special of a shot and a beer for 7$. Let me just say that the shot was the worst whiskey we’ve ever had. Maybe it was gasoline? Maybe drain cleaner? The brand was ‘Recipe’ and obviously you can’t even really google that without getting a ton of non relevant finds. Either way we each ordered two more! I’m pretty sure this bar was in a U2 music video? Worth checking out if you’re with the right crowd who’d love this dark sort of place!

Cool little dive bar with a laidback vibe. Bar staff are great. Not the biggest beer selection, but prices are good compared to other bars in the area. However, why does the music need to be played so loud from the speaker? I couldn't have conversation with someone 1 foot away without shouting at the top of my voice. If I'm not wrong, most people come to bars to have a drink and a chin wag with buddies, not sit in silence because the deafening music volume makes conversation pointless.

Ended up going for a late night cap with two of my friends visiting from Florida, after paying for the bill unfortunately one of the bartenders was either drinking on the job or just profiling my friend for no reason … he had insinuating my friend had never paid … instead of communicating with the other bartender that closed us out .. the male bartender seemed so hell bent in just profiling my friend …what an unfortunate experience .. it was rude and so uncomfortable… what a terrible experience ..

Wish i could give 0 star solely because of the bouncer guarding the door on 09/27/2025 around 2:15-3:30am. He was very belligerent, verbally abusive, and absolutely went ferral on my friend and I without telling us the reason why. My friend and i were there early Saturday morning ~ 2:15-3:30am. Initially i asked the bouncer if i could use the bathroom, and he said no and pointed to a place across the street where i can go. I respected that and left….then told my friend who was waiting for me a few feet away. She told me that since we were looking to hang out some more, we could just buy drinks and hang out there. I agreed with her, so we made our way back assuming that it should be fine since we would be patronizing the business. As my friend walked towards the door, he immediately charged at her to get out. We told him that we decided to stay and buy drinks and i even mentioned that he can watch us buy drinks first before i go to the bathroom. He didnt care. Without any explanation, this extremely rude, violent and absolutely unprofessional bouncer charged at us and told us to get out of there. We asked why, and he gave us no reason at all and just kept edging us away and yelling at us to leave. The way this man treated us, you would think that we did something heinous and atrocious. I have never been treated this way in my life. One of the workers standing outside later came over to me and sympathized with us, and told me that unfortunately the manager/owner who is usually present, was not available that day. Perhaps thats why this man was having such a power trip? It seems like this man is intentionally trying to sabotage this business because this is wild. I doubt he was properly vetted because his anger outburst was absolutely crazy and uncalled for. I was so disgusted and just wanted to leave, but my friend was so offended and wanted an answer of why we couldnt be let in if we were patronizing(understandably so). I understand that the law allows establishments to make whatever decisions they want at their discretion, but violently charging at people without giving them a reason is absolutely unacceptable. This seemed very personal because we did nothing to deserve this. Why be so violently rude to people who simply asked why they cant be let in? Another disheveled man came to me, claiming he works with him and that he is not letting us in because my friend looks too young. Meanwhile no IDs were ever asked for. I wanted to leave this review incase the owner wasnt aware of how this bouncer is treating potential customers. Unprovoked. Feel free to review ur cameras on 09/27/2025 around 2:15-3:30am. That man needs serious anger management training and Psych evaluation. Or better yet, hire actual professional bouncers that know how to communicate because if he simply gave us a reason, we would have left just like i initially did. He will RUIN ur establishment with his horrible and violent attitude if u allow this to keep happening.
