Alchemy Brooklyn Reviews
Good local bar. The bluepoint beer is great (when they have it) and martinis quite good. Small bites options are a bit limited -- ie food to snack on when drinking. But broader menu is decent. Garden is great.
A friend recommended Alchemy and I have to admit I was worried because of some negative reviews that I read before going but I'm glad to report that in my experience, none of that was true. They do get busy when there are events at Barclay's center and it was on a Friday night ( 11/7/25) that we went but the staff was able to manage everything nicely. The vibe was nice, the service was great, the staff were attentive , the drinks were good and the food was great. I had the calamari, it was really good. I highly recommend the hanger steak with the mash and sauteed kale, it was very delicious. We tried their sticky stout pudding for dessert and enjoyed it , they also make a great and I mean great cappuccino. I will definitely visit again.
I really love this spot. The first time we came it was just for drinks and it felt cozy and private. The second time we came it was for an early dinner before the game. The food was good and well portioned. The drinks here are great, they have some unique cocktails. Service was really nice and everyone was happy to answer all our questions. Insta: @TheShahLALand
8/4/23 back for a late dinner I got the grilled chicken sandwich and it was good. The GF got the fried chicken sandwich and she loved it. Our friend got the veggie burger and she said it was ok & needs more seasoning. Good beer selection and good service. Garlic Mayo was noted to be amazing by the ladies! 4/10/22 brunch- it was full, but got a recently vacated booth. They are understaff so service was slow but nice and friendly. Food still really great! I had the Swiss breakfast, a perfect size for a smaller plate if you're not truly hungry. 2019:Been here several times. Most recently for brunch. Had the huevos rancheros (photo), they make it in a very interesting way and it was very good! Service was excellent as it always is... Thanks K!
We stopped in for a bite while running some errands and were so happy we did. The bartender was super friendly and made a great cocktail. The fried chicken has its own section on the menu and for good reason. I got the fried chicken sandwich and my partner got the combo. Would return just for the cocktail or for the chicken - definitely recommend a stop in!
Hamilton's on Ft. Hamilton Parkway is one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn, so it was no surprise to me that I would absolutely love their sister restaurant. As soon as I walked into Alchemy for brunch, I felt it had the same vibe as Hamilton's, in spite of it being much smaller. The establishment is clean, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the food comes out fast, fresh, and delicious. It is conveniently located near the Barclay Center, so it is a great little spot to stop in before and/or after an event. I definitely recommend, and I will most certainly drop by again in the future the next time I am in the area.
This place is clean but there were flies inside. The man working there was friendly but the cooks took really long to make the food. The food was good for the price and the place was empty at lunch time. I would recommend going here but if you’re on a timed schedule then maybe go to a place with quicker service.
On a whim, the 3 of us just walked in to Alchemy; never heard of it but that night was frigid and this place was open and had a table. We chose different items and had drinks, expecting mediocre food at best. Fantastic surprise at how tasty everything was; delicious enough to not leave any crumbs! We raved about our meals to a couple we know and they, too, raved at how often they dine there. We’ll all be back!
Four stars for the food. Specifically here to shoutout the Mexican cook/busser. He was self handedly cooking the food AND delivering it AND cleaning tables. The service was slow because the bartender and one server weren’t really helping him. I hope he gets a cut of the tips. At one point one of the servers was even sitting down and eating breakfast, while he was doing it all. I just hope he’s allowed the same for as hard as he works. Background: server for a decade.
I came here with my mother and my girlfriend. I had the corned beef special for St. Patrick's Day, which was good. The brussels sprouts we ordered as a side were quite ordinary. They weren't crispy or seasoned in a particularly distinct way, combined with cheese or bacon or any of the common trendy manners that restaurants now serve brussels sprouts. The mushroom salad was good. My mother's fish was good. A solid restaurant.
We were in town for a NY Liberty game. We had family visiting from Alabama and were happy to find Alchemy because it has something for everyone on the menu. The atmosphere was great but our service was terrible. When ever we asked a question about a menu item or anything we were met with an eye roll and tsk... I guess that's what it was, he made some kind of a noise. The server was so rude that he ruined the experience at Alchemy. What I thought would be a great restaurant turned into an upsetting experience. Big disappointment!
Went on a Wednesday evening, before a Nets game, and overall experience was a D. I won’t be going back, and would consider mediocre stadium food/bev a much better choice. -Inattentive wait staff came across unwelcoming. -Grass fed burger (ordered medium): Was served well done, dry, and oversalted. Shame because it seemed like quality meat. -Ravioli with spinach/ricotta: The ravioli was hard around the edges and a tough chew, seemingly undercooked. This was in a bed of oil that was soupy, so it was tough straining the greens to not feel sloppy & soaked when eating. -Ambience was average.
Ordered Alchemy Mac & Cheese. Very disappointed with this entree. The bacon was hard and tasted old. The Mac and cheese was lacking. Restaurant was very warm and uncomfortable. Maybe the AC filter needs cleaning/change. Service was good and friendly. Never had this experience before my family and I have always enjoyed this place.
This place was disappointing. We came for the backyard brunch and vegan menu options. The backyard was visually appealing with a lovely arched pergola and plenty of seating but the kitchen fan is soooo loud it killed the ambiance. It was a beautiful day and no one was outside. You have to raise your voice to be heard over it. We moved inside happy to have a menu with a vegan brunch option. Unfortunately that fell flat too. I had ordered scrambled tofu with spinach and mushrooms, onion and tomatoes. What I got was cubed tofu with spinach, onions and peppers. The tofu was not scrambled and was minimally seasoned making my brunch bland and unpalatable. I left more than half of my food on the plate and filled up on French fries. It was pretty to look at but had no flavor even with hot sauce. Is it too much to ask for vegan food that has flavor? Told the waitress my food’s was not as ordered she apologetically gave me my iced coffee on the house. The iced coffee was good, nice and strong. The Bloody Mary wasn’t bad either. My partner, an omnivore, said his food was ok but nothing he was excited about. I doubt we’ll return any time soon. We both left unsatisfied.
French toast was mid. It was extra dry, and not very sweet. The fruit was relatively fresh though, so that was a plus. Although why grapes?? My scrambled eggs were WET. And not just uncooked, it’s like they poured a cup of water over them while they were on the plate. Extremely bland and horrible texture. My girlfriends omelette was super dry, rubbery and salty. My friend said the eggs Benedict was fine, but not particularly memorable. Lattes were good. Lastly, not sure if this is related, but it rained dust balls from the roof during our entire meal. It was really annoying that they kept landing in our water and food. It wasn’t constant, but consistent (~ every 10 min). Please get the laundromat to not dump their dust there? Or remove the outdoor seating please.
I wasn’t shown to my table, the bartender just gestured vaguely toward the back of the restaurant and the very kind gentleman bussing the tables showed me my seat AND poured a water for me. The waitress took 10 minutes to even ask me for a drink order. It took an additional 10ish minutes to get my drink. Once I had both my food and drink I was not checked on once in the hour I was there eating, which was interesting because the waitress clearly had enough time to check on other tables and chat with patrons at the bar. For the prices they charge there the service is not only inadequate, it’s appalling.
