DAE Brooklyn Reviews
My favorite restaurant in New York! The most delicious cocktails
Good weird place. Fantastic coffee. I want to try more of their things! Good 💯
Great space and great food and drinks. Just lovely. Welcome to the neighborhood.
insanely delicious food and bev, the nicest team, most gorgeous, laidback atmosphere, and an awesome addition to the neighborhood. a space that prioritizes human connection and leisurely meals
Big fan of supporting small business, especially ones who take an innovative and thoughtful approach to something so mainstream like cafes. A refreshing add to the neighborhood.
I love coming to DAE! I’m always met with great vibes from the staff, and the drinks and food is always yummy. Beautiful space too.. no complaints
Incredible spot, the food and the drinks were perfection! Excellent atmosphere and curation!
Just wanted to say what a pleasant evening everyone had. The relaxed and informal setting coupled with what everyone thought was impeccable food - just fantastic. 10/10!
Unique and delicious spot with food, drinks and design. Creative Korean flavors, and a curated space that is so pretty in the details
i always love my time at DAE .. everyone is quite lovely and the space is well designed and curated. a beautiful NYC experience!!
Beautifully designed interior, delicious coffee, beverages, and snack menu, unique homewares sourced from Korea, excited to see the place grow!
amazing food — bread and butter, pita, crudo and cabbage all delicious!
The staff is super friendly. Got the sool flight and hamachi. Service was fast. Will definitely be back.
I went for a specialty cocktail night — so delicious and a special atmosphere!
Fun spot! Carefully designed decor, soft lighting, with high-quality ingredients. Authentic Korean food and drinks with a twist. Beautiful presentation! I’ll be back!
This place is perfect in every way. i’m obsessed with their cocktails! esp. the one with coconut water and matcha!
Stopped by for brunch yesterday. Great service, great food. Love the scallion rolls and french toast, would come back again.
visited dae for a special tea inspired cocktail menu. loved the concept - each drink was so unique and lovely. the atmosphere was beautiful, the service was great, and the night had a really fun energy.
The Neighborhood Gem. It feels good for me to be in a place well considered. Each little detail at Dae, from the utensils, plates, and glassware to the soap in the bathroom has been given attention. The food is fresh and delicious, the tacos are adorned with fresh herbs and pickled veggies. I'm drooling thinking or the burger + martini combo. I have yet to try the clams. I've been to starred Michelin restaurants that pay less attention to the small details, the details that make people feel good and want to return. The food, wines and drinks, and coffee are top-notch; the staff is warm and friendly. I love coming here to eat and read. Dae is an understated gem to discover; im grateful i get to do that
This place is special. You just know there was so much thought put into every single piece in this space--the objects on display, the vintage silverware, unique, precious but modern glassware... and the food and cocktails are high quality. Such a good experience every time.
Heard about a special cocktail pop up they were hosting and the drinks were truly one of a kind and amazing. The bartender was insanely busy but was still able to be efficient and was super friendly. Love this spot
Truly one of a kind spot that is at the same time a cafe, design store, and modern Korean restaurant. Daytime offers amazingly balanced rare coffee imported from Korea and thoughtful tea and non caff options. Dinner menu is refined Korean with excellent cocktails and natural wines. Yes service can sometimes (not all the time) be slow…but that’s the nature of running a small mom & pop operation in 2024 while ensuring everything is purposefully and artfully curated. No need to harsh the vibe with your laptop - there are plenty of Starbucks everywhere
A regular there since it opened! Enjoy the food, the music (10/10 - they should share their playlist) and your friends while you're there. They also have an amazing high-end selection of exclusive home products. Never got so many compliments on candle holders.
Welcome to the neighborhood! I was so curious to see what would open up at this corner retail space. They just opened (finally) recently and I was impressed. It's a really nice, refreshing coffee shop that also sells all-natural wine. They also sell lots of home goods that are sourced from Europe and Korea. I will definitely be back again for their Misugaru Latte and cold brew (they use coffee beans from a South Korean company called Anthracite - very delicious!).
An amazing ambience, takes you to place that’s removed and different from the day to day nyc living, where you feel like you can stay for hours either by your self or with friends. A great curation of home good products, as well as an ever changing menu of food items inspired by Korean home cooking. The cocktails also have a unique and tasty take on your favorites. It has become my weekly ritual to swing by and at least have an espresso, which by far is the best in the neighborhood.
Truly obsessed with DAE! One of the best neighborhood spots; they have an amazing menu of dishes made from such high-quality ingredients, and the drinks are so unique. An amazing place with such a thoughtfully curated dining and shopping experience, I highly recommend.
DAE is truly one of a kind and worth experiencing. Great place to connect and disconnect, and I always find something delicious on their menu. Don’t hesitate to come for a quick latté, cocktails, or dinner. Highly recommend.
Food and cocktails were unreal! Favorite was the burger - one of the best smash burgers I’ve had in New York.
All the food was delicious, staff was super friendly and everything was thoughtfully crafted. They also had a long menu of non-alcoholic drinks that were delicious.
For those who appreciate a break from the ordinary, DAE is a true gem. There aren’t many places in Brooklyn where I can enjoy excellent Korean rice wine alongside a thoughtful beer selection (they even carry my favorite from Maine). The bites are also equally delicious and eclectic. I do miss the Korean design goods they once carried in-store, though I’m glad they’re still available online. I hope they’re here to stay—Brooklyn already has more than enough pizzerias.
We hosted a private celebration dinner at DAE, and couldn’t have had a better experience. There were a lot of details to coordinate, from the menu to bringing in flowers and our own dessert, to some guests needing alternate dishes. And it all went beautifully! Amy and the owner Carol helped tend to every detail. The ambience was perfect for what we were looking for — clean and intimate, and the food was delicious: curry croquettes, Korean fried chicken, vegan risotto, prawns with gochujang-glazed little gem salad. The cocktails we selected for the menu (2 of which were N/A) were also so, so good and very original! I was gobsmacked at the quality of the food and presentation, and professionalism of everyone involved. It allowed us to truly enjoy the evening and focus on the occasion for our celebration. Don’t hesitate to inquire if you’re looking for a private event space, DAE did a phenomenal job hosting us and our guests!
Dae is so special. Beautifully designed selection of homeware you can’t find anywhere else and their drinks are phenomenal. It’s the perfect place to go for coffee or wine but my favorite thing was this roe rice dish they serve at dinner. It was nutritious, delicious and just magical. Highly recommend as they are always adding new things to the menu. 🤍🤍🤍
The chokehold that Dae has on me… but really, this place is such a gem! I’m so grateful that it’s in Carroll Gardens and hope it never leaves. Yes, it can be pricey, but so are the other comparable options in the neighborhood and here they put a lot of effort into the environment and presentation of the food/drinks, which I think helps to justify the cost. The environment here is very peaceful and it’s a lovely place to unwind. They make my favorite lattes in the city and have unique and delicious food options. Def recommend the corn latte while it’s still in season! <3
Great vibe great drinks but food is terrible and I don't say this lightly (still love this place!)
Absolutely love this place! I have been multiple times and all my friends are always so impressed with the details of the decor, ambiance, food, and drink. My servers have always been super helpful and make really good recommendations. I would totally recommend this for a date night/ catching up with an old friend.
this is the best vibe in carroll gardens. their coffee is by far the most amazing roast i’ve ever had — it’s imported from Korea and now they finally sell the beans by the bag. JUST BUY IT. i am obsessed. dinner menu is unique and tasty, wine is natural AND they serve it in sferico glasses. amazing amazing
I’m visiting nyc & I am sooo happy I stumbled upon Dae! It was the perfect Sunday brunch spot. I ordered the KST and French Toast. You can tell they definitely care about the quality of what they’re making; The food was so delicious I was floatinggg haha - the kst was perfectly savory and the french toast was perfectly sweet. My waitress was so considerate, attentive, and it’s just a lovely vibe there overall. Would go back!
Can’t recommend this place enough, the service, atmosphere and food were all outstanding during my visit. The location and setting feels like a peaceful little get away from the hustle and bustle. Would recommend the Coco Chanel for drink, and the Smash burger. Will definitely be back!
Thoughtfully designed café and shop that feels like a little escape from the city. The space is calm, minimalist, and really intentional — everything from the drinks to the home goods is curated with care. Peaceful place to slow down and reset.
Delicious grain latte and pretty good espresso. The ambiance is minimalistic, very airy and bright. The brunch food was good, unique, and quite colorful, but the flavor was less memorable.
If you are reading this review, please go experience the aesthetic of this space. You will be delighted. I was eager to check out DAE, and when I did, it exceeded my expectations. I was most interested in the space and the wares. Both are so exquisitely curated leaving the customer feeling both at peace and inspired. Ajax at the counter was knowledgeable and friendly while I asked questions about nearly everything on the menu 😂 I tried the K-pear iced tea (I’m a huge Korean pear fan) and it was refreshing and juicy. Im excited to go back to try more of their daytime menu, and I’m curious to see what their evening offerings are like.
I’ve went a couple times and the matcha tastes great! Very nice place. I recommend it! 🍵
Lovely staff and a cute happy hour 5-7 pm drink and food! 10$ grass fed burger. Food looks amazing.
Love this spot! I came Sunday night and had a smash burger and some really good cocktails. Apparently there was a one night only tea cocktail pop up, and they were so good. Our bartender was so sweet, and she created all of the drinks herself!
Since the opening of DAE, I knew I needed to stop by and visit the space for myself! The space itself was smaller than I imagined, but it’s still very nice and aesthetically pleasing. I stopped in on my latest trip to the city, and finally got to try a few of their items. For myself I ordered the “MBB”(milk bread with matcha honey butter) and a friend ordered the “KST: Korean Street”. I loved the taste of the KST, the savory and sweet combination was very delicious! As for the “MBB”, I also thoroughly enjoyed the combination of the bread with the butter (as the matcha flavor did not overpower but instead complimented the taste). The hemp seeds added a nice crunch as well. Overall, I was very impressed with the items I tried, but also the atmosphere and service I received.
Stopped in on a Sunday after visiting the farmer's market nearby. Just the best tomato toast I have ever had, and enjoyed the really beautiful laid-back atmosphere. I want to come back for the dinner menu. The Korean dishes look like they'll be phenomenal.
Good drinks, lovely ambiance, cute shop with cute beige objects. Overall a very relaxed atmosphere and an easy place to chat with a friend for a few hours. The service is a little aloof but it was fine.
The cutest coffee shop/home goods/ wine shop. Beautifully curated home goods and yummy wine selection. I've had their cold misugaru latte and it's such a nostalgic taste from childhood. It's also nice chill place to have drinks after work.
The café boasts a generous and airy layout, creating a sense of ample space that exudes cleanliness. This establishment offers an ideal setting to reconnect with friends, providing a soothing environment to enjoy refreshingly comforting beverages and food. There is also a puppy!
Beautiful space, it’s thoughtful and carefully arranged. It’s definitely catering towards an experience so I was able to understand the pricing. If you need an aesthetically pleasing and atmospheric cafe moment this is the place to be. We were there for a pop-up event. Our drinks were delicious and the food was tasty. They transition into a wine bar at 4 or 4:30 pm. We are looking forward to coming back to experience DAE in the evening.

What a wonderful place to stumble into on a cold evening! Dae is warm and inviting, like a friend’s cozy living room. Good music that allowed us to talk. The cocktails are delicious and while we didn’t get food because this was a pre-dinner drink stop, the aromas coming from the kitchen were making us drool. And the happy hour alone is worth a visit! We will be back! Thank you Celina for being an excellent hostess and bartender!

The food and drinks were great I liked the glassware and straws, cool layout of items to buy. The two staff weren’t helpful and were standoffish.
If youve been to korean cafes (and especially anthracite) then you can immediately tell this is also korean or kr inspired. Very very chill and calming.
Absolutely gorgeous cafe with a nice mellow vibe and great coffee and cake, all served beautifully in a minimalist design. I really wanted to give 5 stars however the service is horrible and the lady working here is not friendly and also some tables are left dirty. Too bad because it really takes away from this beautiful place.
Cute spot with great food. Went here for dinner and I do think the vibe lends itself better for breakfast/ lunch; it’s quite minimal, but can get quite loud bc of the acoustics. Favorites were the Leche de Tigre with scallop and black sesame; melted in your mouth so good! And the prawns, which had some heat to the greens. The charred cabbage and fries were also great. Finished the dinner with the hōjicha martini, which was like a dessert. Affogato was also perfect, espresso was nice and strong.
The food was great—one of the best BLTs I’ve had. Drinks were solid too. Unfortunately, the staff didn’t seem very friendly and gave off the vibe that they didn’t want to be there, which took away from the overall experience a bit.

Came for a solo drink before dinner to kill time. Has an interesting vibe - I do think it likely functions better as a cafe but the mezcal drink I got was good and reasonably priced and it’s a uniquely decorated spot.

On a rainy evening, we decided to try DAE and see what the hype was about. TL;DR: Way too expensive for the service or the quality of food. When we arrived at a mostly empty DAE, we were given stools instead of actual chairs, even though we requested chairs. The service vibe was odd. The food tried to be interesting but ended up being strangely average. - The Charred Caraflex Cabbage with Doenjang Butter & Bottarga was unique. A bit messy, but decent. - The Pita with Labneh and Chili Oil Honeycomb was fine. - The Crispy Tofu Kimchi & Sakura Crisp Canapé was the most confusing appetizer we’ve had in a long time. We couldn’t quite identify the actual taste. - The best part was our Winter Water Kimchi martini—tasty, though it was tiny for $18. Enjoy the four-sip, two-gulp martini. - Finally, the Almond Tea Cake with Yuzu Whip & Crème Anglaise was actually quite refreshing. Don’t get me wrong, nothing was bad (except maybe the seating), and I’m a big fan of adventurous fine dining. But with four dishes and two drinks coming to $170, the flavors and service fell flat.
Wanted to really really like this place, as a long time follower and admirer of the owner and their work. The three stars is b/c the interior and menu design is absolutely gorgeous and well thought out, along with the home goods section, carefully curated and great quality. My issues with the place are to do with the service and food. The prices suck for the consumer, reasonable for a new business. The food was meh at best, was cold, stick to cocktails esp with their great music. As for service, no cutlery was offered until we asked, no water cups, no sharing plates (odd, the menu seemed shareable), took a while to get an employees attention, never asked if we needed anything else. IDK, I suppose its because theyre new, but service did not match price point. Feels alienating to Brooklynites of the area.
The food was good and i normally like this place but damn service was hella slow and i think they forgot our order because we waited for over 2 hours to get our food and the server started taking away our plates and we were like uhm we have food coming and they were oh really? Lol This place has great potential but the service needs to get better. Makes sense why it was pretty empty on a friday night. Reply to the owner: they did no give free desserts nor let us stay an hour past close. We left around 10. You must be mistaking us for someone else so i guess it didnt only happen to us but other people. Im not trying to harm. Im leaving an honest review so hopefully it can get better. I like this place a lot actually but service can be improved. I understand the reasoning behind the taking the plates away but they started taking everything away including cutlery until we reminded them we have more food coming
Great vibes, great drinks/food, mediocre/subpar/inattentive service. One of the most beautiful and unique spaces with fantastic music and evident strong attention to detail. Would give this 5 stars if it weren't for their service, which has been consistently inattentive/indifferent. Still a repeat customer regardless because I love the space/food/drinks so much! The only reason why I'm giving this review is because I want them to succeed but I worry because a couple of my friends have said they'll never go back due to the poor service :(
Super quiet, only 1 person at the counter . Order purple sweet potato matcha but we need to go back and ask for more purple sweet potato since we can’t taste any . Hojicha was okay .
We just had brunch. The Mayak egg dish was cute and tasty, but small for the price. The tomato toast was just okay and also on the small side. The menu is very limited. They don't have black tea for people who just want strong black tea with their brunch. The service staff were pleasant enough, but there it's pretty much service including figuring out why one dish came and the other dish we ordered did not until we asked where it was. It's not as if the staff were run off their feet since there were only two other tables the entire time we were there. Both of whom already had their food. They have a few rules. No computers and no photos or videos of their very sparsely decorated and empty at high brunch hour space. This may reflect how they may not be appealing to neighborhood. We would not go back.
Good vibes. Very aesthetic, but very expensive. I got a brunch dish and a cold brew and it was $33 (including tax). They have a mandatory 10% service charge. Crazy expensive. If you’re an influencer/into exploring new spots and well designed cafes, this may be your spot. If you’re looking to get full and perhaps enjoy a book or do some writing, this is not the place.

I think 15$ for a toast with a gimicky block of butter and jam designed for instagram (see posted photo) is all you need to know to understand what this place is about. Interior and instagrammable aesthetics I give it an “A”. Cute dog I give the doggo an “A++”. Food and drink a “C” for effort. Prices get an “F” because if I’m paying 8$ for a drink, 8$ for two stale baklavas, 15$ for a piece of toast, something in there better be made of gold.
The place apparently has a no laptop policy after 5pm, but the guidelines are not present in the premises. Came in after 5pm and used my laptop for one hour without anyone telling me and after ordering. It would be better if they told people the policy before they order.
We saw that the owner monitors everything and ensures that your wine pour is as little as legally possible
Bad service. I’ll be nice and not say more.
We visited this place for coffee and were surprised by their weekend no-laptop policy, which wasn’t mentioned anywhere and there were no contact numbers to call ahead. My partner needed to respond to a few emails for a closing deal. We were informed of the laptop policy after we ordered the drinks, and we told the staff that we would only need a maximum of 10 minutes to send out some emails and finish our drinks. Despite the place being nearly empty, the staff were extremely rude, rolling her eyes, and suggested we sit on the curb in 92-degree heat to send the emails. Very disappointing experience, especially considering the high prices. The place is cute but the service was so terrible that we won’t be coming back :(
Pros: beautiful, minimalist atmosphere, good music, interesting home-goods items for sale Cons: comically bad value at dinner, waitstaff not knowledgeable about menu Three slices of bread with butter - which would be complimentary at any other restaurant - is somehow a standalone $15 menu item here. A handful of olives is &12. Etc. There are some good flavors here (the beans in bone broth was excellent) but the value proposition is obscenely bad and our waiter didn’t know the menu at all and therefore could not explain or recommend anything. Unacceptable at this price point and level of ambition.
This place is stunning! I love the atmosphere. The food and drinks are also usually quite good. However the service is unbearable. I was in this past Sunday with a friend. We ordered mbb, korean street toast, a blt. When the server brought our food she put two mbbs on the table. When I asked about the blt she said the person in the kitchen accidentally made two of those instead of a blt. She did not offer to correct the order by remaking it, giving a refund, or offering a baked good. She stared at me and told me the person in kitchen was near the end of their shift. Then she walked away. No sorry no nothing!! This is all after waiting 40 min for 2 sandwiches?? Ridiculous.
As a Korean person, it's truly sad to see that DAE seems to take inspiration from many aesthetically great cafes in Seoul and adopted everything except for one thing Korean businesses pride themselves on: efficiency. My partner and I walked in while we were waiting for a table at Ugly Baby next door, with about an hour in between when we walked in and us needing to be at the restaurant. There was only one couple at DAE. We sat down and it took 30 minutes for us put in our order, while the staff were just running around aimlessly. We ordered 1 beer and 1 glass of wine. By the time it hit 55 minutes of us sitting there, our drinks still had not arrived. We decided to cancel our order and went on to eat a delicious, well-serviced meal at Ugly Baby. So in summary, it took 55 minutes of us sitting there to not receive a single beer and wine. I'll give DAE an extra star for looking quite nice on the inside, but I would strongly avoid this place if you're looking for good service.
Aesthetic but none of the drinks were good. My two friends and I each got different drinks and all of them were so diluted but so expensive. The bathroom has Nonfiction bath products which is nice but ultimately as a cafe, it fails to make me want to come again.
Why does the service seem like they hate you?? So many reviews say the same thing … really curious how this does not improve
I would send everyone here for their exceptional food however it’s not worth it to be treated so badly. Our server was annoyed, forgetful, and rude. She made a point of making us feel unwelcome. We booked for dinner, sans laptops and IG photos (not our style and yes I’ve read the articles), on a quiet Thurs eve, and ordered a good amount of food and drinks. I hope they switch up their front of house. Until then, I wouldn’t recommend DAE.
Definitely overhyped from Tik Tok. Sure, it’s aesthetically pleasing but I was told food was not served during the day and that I had to put my laptop away bc they “weren’t allowed on tables.” Which makes zero since all the advertising shows people eating the food during the day and I can’t even do work? If they served food, I would understand but the fact they don’t makes the rule so strange. I checked the website and there’s no information regarding this. Also it’s expensive — I paid $8 for a lemonade. The vibe was totally ruined once I was told to put my laptop away (bc I actually had work to do). Once I was done, I left and went to a nearby cafe that does serve food and allow me to take out my laptop.
This place is horrible. Staff is HORRIBLE. Seems like they only hire Karens to ruin everyones experience. Hoping they improve EVERYTHING.
What’s hilarious concept. A bland coffee shop in a not-so-cool area of New York City , pretending it’s an influential hot spot - Mean spirited and slow service . Restrictions galore . It is no wonder it is always EMPTY . Dude , you’re not cool. Get out .
Place has potential but the service was unbelievably bad. I would have given 2 stars if I would have had any food, but the waitress never came.
We were really excited to check out this new cafe since their food and everything looked so good on social media. But we were severely disappointed. They actually do not serve food during the daytime hours, they said they only have food for dinner service. Who eats toast for dinner??? But dinner service is also temporarily closed because the kitchen is being renovated, so actually there is no food at all right now. None of this information is on their website or social media. So disappointing, and the vibe is also kind of weird. Also no photos or videos are allowed. Will not be returning.
Staff will deadpan you until YOU speak to them first. No greetings, very unfriendly /problematic environment. Why not hire people who will actually show customers a welcoming atmosphere? Food & drinks are also overpriced and worst part is that it’s all bland.
For those who came from social media, they have a limit to however many photos you can take. In addition, they have a no laptop policy. There is no free wifi and the servers will repeatedly come up and ask you to put said laptop away or to stop taking pictures. I honestly don’t understand the point of this “cafe” if people aren’t allowed to lounge or take pictures to promote the place. Not only that, their prices are extremely high for the quality of the food. They have home decors on the side for people to browse but to be frank, they look like EBay products. I understand that they may be striving for a unique form of enterprise but my friends and I have felt extremely uncomfortable the whole time we were in there. I definitely will not be recommending this place to anyone but I do wish the owners luck.
I walked in and thought the place had such a lovely aesthetic but the loveliness ends there. The barista was a total snob when I asked if they had WiFi and treated me with such contempt because I had the nerve to ask. I went down the street to Emma’s Torch and spent $20. There are much better cafés to go to. Bye!
Drinks were ok, food ok, but the service was SOOOO bad! It took 40 minutes to get a piece of toast. Then another 15 to get our blt, and then another 10 to get french toast. The clueless people working there were so rude too. Not worth it at all, so pricey for how subpar it is.
Gave this place a second chance thinking maybe my first visit was just for off but unfortunately it was just as bad. The atmosphere itself is nice, but the service has been consistently rude and unfriendly. Drinks are weak, watered down, and packed with ice - 70% ice to 30% actual drink. On top of that, they don’t allow photos, which is ironic considering that’s exactly how they gained their popularity in the first place. Overall, very disappointing both times.
Coffee is great, drinks in the evening are ok, aesthetics are on point. Score is for the consistent rudeness from the staff. Every time I've been in here (four in total, because I really wanted to give a neighborhood spot a chance), it's like they're really bothered by people trying to spend money there. If the owner is reading this, please do better. I might be wrong, but I'm assuming you want your business to thrive right? Even a small amount of baseline politeness would go a long way.
