Golden City Brooklyn Reviews
It’s my friend’s favorite restaurant for dim sum and banquets. So she took us to Golden City for dim sum. Although it’s a weekday lunchtime (Thursday, 08/18), it’s quite crowded in the dining hall. So you could tell that it’s a very popular restaurant. And my friend told me that there’s always a long line of people waiting outside on weekends. The restaurant has the dim sum carts pushed around the tables for customers to chose from the steamed or baked or fried or stir fried foods. You can also order something out of the menu, I think. The dining hall is so spacious that it can hold a big banquet or gathering of hundreds of people. The staff are all very nice and attentive. You will have to find a parking spot on the street, as it’s New York. The dim sum is definitely authentic! Everything is freshly prepared and very delicious.
Came here for Saturday brunch. It was packed after noon and had to wait for 20-30min. Full of local Chinese customers which shows it’s a good dim sum place. Ordered a bunch of different dishes and tried chicken feet for the first time in decades and enjoyed it very much. Don’t forget to order mustard and chili sauce! It accentuates the dim sum flavors. Reasonably priced. Recommend to come in more than 3 people and most of the dim sums are come in 3 and the more people the more variety you get to try! Staff only speak Chinese but you can point at what dishes you want as the cart ladies come by so not a big problem if you can’t speak the language
My family used to go here a lot. Haven't had them in a while so super glad they reopened. The food and service is still just as good. There aren't as many customers as before the shut down since many people thought they closed permanently. They're definitely open so stop by and give it a try!
Friendly and accommodating staff, served our party of ten seamlessly. The ordering process was easy and since I don’t speak Chinese, the dude who could ordered. Food comes out at a good pace and overall tastes good. This place has an eclectic interior, the lobby is clean, and the tables are ready for patrons. Highly recommended.
Went there for Chinese New Year family gathering. Food was customized with less oil and salt and without MSG. It was pretty tasty and made properly, albeit the amount of the high price ingredients sometimes fall short. This is definitely the room for improvement. Seafood was fresh and waitresses had good service. Price was on the mid to high range for the same type of restaurant as many prices on the menu were highered. Carpet is old and can get an update, facilities can get more frequent cleaning, even that is common for the same type of restaurant. They have a parking lot but some how it was not open.
We were at this really for a party. It’s very spacious, with sections available for banquets and parties. Interior is not so modern but good enough to dine in. They make some really delicious food though. I got to try the shark fin soup, shrimp walnut, fried tofu, steamed fish, seared steak, lobster with garlic sauce, all were super tasty. The soy chicken was little dry though. For dessert coconut jelly was so good, I am still eating them a day later. The staff were amazing. They made sure all the dishes were served in time, cleared out empty dishes, gave us fresh new small plates, and helped us to pack leftovers. I had a wonderful dinner here. I would not mind coming back here if I am in the area.
Had my aunt's 75th birthday party here. The managers are very nice. Spoke to Kevin and John. Both were very helpful and explained my options. When I wanted some changes to the menu they were very accommodating. They partitioned a section for us which created a bit of privacy. They have a basement that have private rooms. Nice space and food was good. Not too oily and salty. The service on the day of was very good.
Very friendly staff here. Food is really good compared to the other Chinese restaurants in the area. Bathrooms are actually fairly clean too which is very surprising. It is also a little more expensive here. Some dishes such as the vegetable delight were a bit too salty in my opinion but were still good. Lamb chops were overcooked but I know some people like it that way. Maybe it's better off in a Chinese restaurant..
Their food is pretty good, not my favorite but still. Their service is pretty bad. We ordered 10 dishes and they forgot 3 of the dishes. And they ran out of chicken. I like the vibes there. You could see fish inside the place. And crabs. My favorite dish was the lobster. Bye 👋🏻 -Jude, 8
expected atmosphere from a traditional chinese restaurant. it’s chaotic with loud chinese music, guests who are waiting for tables are just everywhere, and the food is what you expect. we came for dim sum on chinese new year and didn’t wait actually because we were a big group. the downside is at one point they straight up said the kitchen couldn’t keep up so dim sum came around somewhat slowly.
Great place to celebrate birthday dinner with friends. The restaurant place is your typical enormous chinese celebrational type of restaurant. The food selections are wide range from simple family dishes to traditional chinese fancy; from simple expensive to elegant expensive. All tasted as expected from traditional fancy chinese restaurants.
Place just opened this week. I came here for Chinese New Year with at least 60 people in my dinner party. For such a large group, they haven't figured out the pace in the kitchen yet. Some tables received food at different intervals about 15 mins apart initially. Food- Food is typical, slightly greasy Chinese food Service- Waiters were very attentive. They checked on us frequently. However, they're definitely new to the industry- you can tell because some of them don't know how to use the double spoon serving trick. Cleanliness- Place is new so it's clean, so refreshing since most Chinese restaurants are dirty. Advice- give it at least a month before coming to this place, even if this was a smaller party, the restaurant was packed and they were stretched thin and had a hard time keeping pace. Pictures- delicious lamb chops (4/5, tender and juicy but a little too salty), shark fin soup (no rating, did not consume), oysters and broccoli and bok choy (3/5, used dried oysters and scallops and tasted rubbery), roast chicken (5/5, perfectly crispy skin and moist)
BEWARE LONG wait time 1hour 30 min til food came. place smells. reserved 2 tables for dinner. they put our ticket to the side then the last dish came late with just a bed of lettuce with black pork belly sliced, bad plating.
For some reason, these guys have no respect for their neighbors and regularly start my Sunday mornings with drums. This usually takes about an hour. I'm writing a review now, and next time I'll complain to the competent authority.
I strongly suspect the dim sum here is not made fresh daily. We arrived early on a Saturday, yet most of the dishes we tried tasted like they were reheated leftovers. The shrimp rice roll was plasticky, and the chicken feet tasted slightly spoiled. It was a deeply disappointing meal, and I would advise others to look elsewhere.
Just went to this restaurant today, the dim sums were okay, it was really hot inside (there was no ac). The service was bad, we ask one of the staff for some napkins that was standing next to us and completely ignore us and left, I literally have to yell at him to get his attention to get some napkins for me and also when we first sit down, the staff are supposed to ask for what kind of tea the customers want and bring it to us, the same staff that ignore us when we ask for napkins was near us and didn’t even bother to fill a teapot and bring us some tea.
