Golden Years Brooklyn Reviews
Quiet, low key bar with ok food and a lovely patio (complimentary bug spray on the water table by the door recommended.)
One of my favorite bars in the city- great place for the 30s crowd. I love the outdoor area!! They also make a great off menu Hugo spritz!! Great drinks great vibe
In this section of Williamsburg, this is one of my favorite bars. I consider Golden Years to be my second living room and the backyard I don’t have. I am always comfortable when coming here. The bar tenders are very friendly, food options are just right with either dinner or weekend brunch (don’t sleep on the Kale Caesar). There is beer, wine, cocktails and some N/A options to keep everyone happy!
The sunny atmosphere and whimsical name of this bar reflect the experience. The bartenders and staff are super kind and accommodating. The drinks are great. Oftentimes they’re playing indie rock from the ’06 - ’14 golden era, which makes my little indie sleaze millennial heart happy. I recently tried their chicken sandwich and fries: 5 stars ladies and gentleman. Exactly what I was craving. Also, the back deck of Golden Years completely transports you out of the city, and into a small town backyard. We actually heard a freaking bird chirp back there. What are the odds.
This place was freaking great! My family and I were wandering around Brooklyn one night, trying to catch a bite to eat and stumbled upon this bar. Little did we know that they had great food and a really cool backyard for seating. The staff was very friendly and kind and the service was fast. If I'm ever back in the area, I will definitely have to stop by!
I loved the space. The chicken sandwich was simple and tasty, and the bartenders are all great people. Coming here on a Friday right after work is a smart way to start your weekend. The place has a decent selection of beer, they have out outdoor patio (clutch), and it was so good I’m mentioning it a second time a really good chicken sandwich. 11/10 would go here again before summer is over, but heck I’ll be here in the winter too!
Got a great happy hour marg here. Very quiet for 530pm tho.
Golden Years is a solid place to get together and have a simple drink or bite to eat. More a cozy bar vibe, this establishment has some fun outdoor seating under a large tree as well as a nice cozy inside for both hot and cold weather days. I've come here on rainy days, sitting in front while hanging with friends and sipping beers, as well as into the night on a warm night and hung out in the backyard with small and large groups both on the concrete and the upper deck seating areas. Outdoors has a few places to keep out of the rain but worst case, inside has plenty of places to sit at both the bar as well as tables including some near the front windows to view the city street. Credit cards are accepted and they hold onto it while you have a tab open.
Crispy Bahn mi chicken sandwich was tasty. A little spicy for the average person, but then again, that seems to be a food trend this past few years. I also got soy ginger wings. A great flavor profile. For sure pair the proper drink so you get all that goodness going down. Weren't the best inner seasoning but FOR sure not worst. I would get again if not getting a burger or something. Bartender on the early shift seemed very chill and straight forward. I would definitely say they know their stuff
I finally came here for the first time and it was very nice. Nice bartender who doubled as the waiter (it was a slow time) we got the burger and chicken sandwich and both were very good. And I'm very picky about both, and they we're both good quality meat. The chicken was a bit spicy and the burger was fully cooked (most people ignore my request for well done) and tasted like it was actually made fresh on a grill. They have a limited menu but it covered enough options and had a few brunch like items on the lunch menu. Nice atmosphere and I'll have to check out the back yard in the nicer weather. A bit pricey but I guess it matches the quality, I'll still go back.
Between waiting forever to get the bartenders attention who seemed too preoccupied doing shots with his friends (blonde long curly hair) & the cockroaches scaling the walls this place was a a pretty below average establishment but I had minimal expectations. This was all somehow made worse by the aggressively drunk bartender who proceeded to come to my table as I was leaving and attempted to berate me for giving him less than 20% for a tip. Hollering at a table full of women about why you were tipped ACCURATELY for your garbage service is unhinged and frankly, really creepy. In the future consider being attentive or even half sober in order to provide the service that would grant you 20% or more.
We arrived at the establishment at the very beginning of happy hour. There were only 2 other people when we walked in. We were attended right away. The food was amazing so I won’t leave a bad review on that. The drinks of the other hand could have been a bit better. The reason why I’m not leaving a positive review was because of the bartender. Since we had gotten food we needed more napkins and we didn’t want to bother the bartender since she was talking to the person at the bar who I will assume is a friend or a regular at the bar. So my husband grabbed napkins that are at the bar next to the straws. Bartender came and cleaned right away the moment we were done and threw out the extra napkins that he had grabbed. My husband grabbed a few extra more to blow out his nose later on. Since those napkins were thrown away he got up to get more. Bartender watched him and paused her conversation and walked to our side to tell us not to take anymore napkins because he had grabbed way too many before. He explained that she had thrown out the ones he grabbed before and he needed more. She wanted to know the reason why and he didn’t want to say. But her attitude was not welcoming and he had to show her that it was to blow his noise literally. More people came into the bar and they grabbed napkins without any questions. Throughout the whole time bartender while having her conversations with the other people she knew at the bar she just kept looking our way so the best decision was to leave. We left there with a bad taste in our mouths. The impression that left with us since we were the only people of color was that it was that reason why we had that experience which is a shame.
Waited 35 mins to at least be talked to. Grabbed menu’s myself. Bartender kept serving people who kept coming in other than those waiting.
Usually I will defend a bartender's right to be a little bit rude to customers but last night was beyond the pale. The behavior of this guy toward me for trying to order and pay for 3 drinks was so heinous that a hush fell over our entire side of the bar. Comically unprofessional. Go if you want but I pray for you.
Bartender on Tuesday afternoon was standoffish and rude. Id understand if it was a busy bar but our patronage seemed like an inconvenience as it was empty. I made a joke about not liking a beer and she gave a snarky rude response. Imagine not being able to shoot the shit with the bartender. Better places to go for sure. 100% would not return here.
Like the other reviewer said “if you you’re looking for a bar where the staff treats you like you’re the problem” is very accurate. I’ve never left a review for a bar before, but I’ve also never experienced someone being so rude and unwelcoming before either. Hostile is the only way I can describe it. The management really needs to look at the attitude and service of their bartender. Although the backyard is nice I’m not coming back because this experience ruined it for me.
If you’re looking for a bar where the staff treats you like you’re the problem for trying to make their job easier, congratulations — you’ve found it. Went to the bar as a group and, trying to be considerate, I compiled a full list of our drinks on my phone to make things easier for the bartender — you know, instead of having ten people shouting orders at him. I showed him the list, thinking it would be efficient. He took my phone, did something on his system, handed it back, and said, “I can’t remember.” So, trying to be helpful, I said, “No problem, I can leave my phone here until you’re done — I’m going to sit over there.” No bad intentions whatsoever — just trying to keep things smooth for him. He didn’t object or say anything, so I assumed all was good. Fast forward two minutes and here he comes, lecturing me with a bad attitude about how “that’s not how you order at a bar.” Oh, sorry — next time I’ll make sure to stand there and yell drinks over the noise like a real professional customer. Later, after some conversation with my friend, he apologized and said he was “overworked.” Because, of course, the burden of his entire shift should land squarely on the customer who tried to make it easier, who is also very likely overworked. Makes total sense. No matter how stressed you are, basic decency should never be optional. Customers aren’t your emotional punching bag. Thanks for the unforgettable experience — for all the wrong reasons.
