King of Tandoor Brooklyn Reviews
My favorite Indian place. Food is AMAZING. Fragrant crisp peshwari naan. Yumm mango lassi. I always get the chicken korma, so comforting. Great to order and to dine in. The people who run the place are super sweet and chill, I hope this place is around forever
When I was a kid, I went to school a couple blocks away from this place and would come here with my mom. I have been eating here since the 4th grade. Almost everytime we came, they would turn on the most amazing Bollywood videos on at my request which has contributed to my love for Bollywood and Indian art, cuisine and culture. I will never ever forget this place, as they are the only restaurant I know that makes the best Shrimp Tikka Masala, with THE best Naan and THE BEST chutney on the planet. I will definitely be visiting you guys again soon and I wish I could put you in my pocket and bring you everywhere with me specifically to have on-demand Shrimp Tikka Masala.
A friend recommended King of Tandoor, and I was a tad doubtful it would hit my spice preference. It’s a cozy, ‘typical’ NYC Indian spot, and while I was right about the spice level for the chicken vindaloo, my friend was right to recommend this place. I don’t read menus at Indian spots. I just order Chicken Vindaloo spicy and if I’m hungry, I get samosas and garlic naan. I got it all today. And when I asked the waiter about the spice level, he told me it wouldn’t be spicy enough. I asked if he could give me something to make it spicier like green chilies and he just smiled and said, “I got you”. Wow did he. He brought out a jar of his personal favorite spicy sauce (Mr. Naga - I’m buying this as soon as I can!) and some green chilies. The spice level was absolutely perfect (which would probably be way more heat than most people enjoy). The waiter was so kind and helpful. He turned my experience into a great moment. Would highly recommend. And talk to your waiter! Ask questions. You’ll be happy you did.
I love this restaurant. It feels like from a different time. And the food is great. Their garlic naan is soooo garlicky ❤️ Also, call in your order and pick it up for a bit of a discount. Avoid the apps so they get more of what they're due.
I've been eating from here for over 10 years, and they've never disappoint. I moved from brooklyn and still come here every chance I can. By far the best Indian food I've had in NYC
Ever since Gandhi restaurant closed in our neighborhood (RIP), this has been our go-to Indian place. While we usually do take out, we’ve dined in before and the staff is professional and kind. Love their chicken biryani and the samosas are great as well, but everything we’ve ordered from KOT has been delicious.
Best restaurant in PLG, and here’s why: It’s never too busy in here - because so many people order this food to their homes. The service is always so welcoming, you feel like you’re visiting with family. There is so much good food to choose from, and they never disappoint. One time I was there and asked for a special side to come with my main course - which wasn’t on the menu, and they just cooked it for me in the spot. Couldn’t recommend this place more.
Delicious! We got the curry special dinner for 1. It was a fun way to try multiple menu items! We also split the one between two people and it was enough for us and extremely affordable. The Mulligatawny soup was the best soup I’ve had in a long time—a must get! Naan was soft, hot, and delicious. The do-piaz curry was also very good. Comfortable indoor seating. Update: Forgot my card here and they held onto it safely and gave me free soup! 10/10 would recommend!
Went here on a whim while walking around, the food was really good, and the service was really nice and fast. Really loved the garlic naan, probably some of the best I've ever had. Also the mango ice cream was amazing! Thank you for such a great experience.
Their food is so good. Our go-to order for years has been their lamb korma and saag paneer with samosa and banana pakora—never disappoints! And recently I tried the shrimp saag—the shrimp was huge and super tasty. Also love the garlic naan. They are a little bit pricier than other places but the flavor is worth it.
This is clearly a more takeout focused restaurant (at least to me), so the interior dine in area was relatively small and the lighting was a little bit jarring. As for the food, it was overall pretty good. My only complaints would be that the samosas were a little dry and the mixed meat biryani lacked a bit of seasoning, but it's something the complimentary condiments could easily fix. The lamb tikka masala was delicious and perfectly spiced, and the basmati had a hint of coconut and paired well with the tikka masala. The garlic naan was very well made and was flavorful as well. Service was good, the man working there was friendly. Overall, a good experience with good food.
Ordered Tandoori Chicken,Butter chicken and Naan. The butter chicken was really tangy. The tandoori chicken was good, well cooked and was flavourful.Did not like the service however, the lady who took my order was rude.Restrooms are not clean and definitely need an upgrade.
I order from this place a fair amount because it’s close by and it’s the only Indian place in the area. Certain things will hit the spot if you are really craving Indian, and I recommend sticking to those things. Naan, Chana saag, samosas, papadam, chicken curry—the basics—are all okay. Like others have said, their biryani is bad. Flavorless, oily, and if you get the salmon, it honestly didn’t taste or look like salmon at all to me. The other thing about ordering from here is the wait time, I’m assuming it’s because it’s the only Indian place in the area, not because the food is extraordinary. I live four blocks away and it will still take an hour for the food to be ready for pickup or delivery. If you order delivery, don’t get your hopes up. They “forget” something almost every time I order, from something as small as the chutneys or drink, to an entire appetizer. On top of that, the prices are high for the quality, compared to other places like Joy Indian in prospect heights. Unfortunately I think because they’re the only ones in the area and they have high delivery orders, they just sacrifice on quality and service, which is a shame.
Got vegetable biryani from here for $13. Price wise it’s a deal. It was a takeout. By the time the biryani reached its destination the plastic bag was full of oil. On top of that it tasted sweet and non-spicy with cashews, resins, big piece of cucumber and carrot. I have never tasted any biryani so bland and oily. Won’t recommend this place to vegetarians.
Food sucks soo bad. It’s literally white washed Indian food that has no seasoning at allll
Girl, beware. I was craving some Indian food and thought I’d give this spot a shot. Good reviews, awards, what more could I want? I ordered the Chana saag and the veggie samosas. Kind of boring tbh and I was disappointed w the samosa & rice (neither had peas?). But then i blew up like a hot air balloon. Let me tell you, my stomach is usually iron clad. I happily crush that street food - birria, jerk, shawarma, and more. Taco Bell is my fast food of choice. But king of tandoor has my dog and bf calling the morgue. It’s 20 degrees outside and all of my windows are open. Run, do not walk, away from this spot, or suffer the same fate. You have been warned 💅
We have a celiac person in our family who is extremely allergic to gluten. We called twice ahead of time to make sure they could accommodate celiac and avoid gluten cross contamination, and were assured multiple times it would be okay. However, she became extremely sick after eating here! It's important to research proper protocol and be honest in communication if you're unable to reliably accomodate dietary restrictions! We are really disappointed and want to share our experience-- please avoid dining here if you have any food sensitivities or allergies.
I'm Pakistani and American. Do not order their biryani- i ordered their chicken biryani and it was literally their sweet rice dessert with bits of chicken. Ordered several other items: tandoori mix app sampler- overcooked in old oil; tandoori chicken wings were burnt. Charged me $3 for raita that I ordered, got a small sample cup.
We placed an order at 6:30pm, didn’t receive it until 8:30pm (we live like 2 blocks away). Then, we only received half the order. We called back immediately, and didn’t deliver the rest until 11pm. The worst part was someone in our party has a severe nut allergy, and some of the menu items listed nuts, some did not. We called to ask for the ingredients around 9pm when this person started to have a severe reaction (after ordering something that didn’t have nuts listed) and the woman on the phone specifically said something along the lines of “I am too busy to discuss this”. I’m not sure what liability this could cause … I’m sure it’s large
I ordered for pickup on their website and the pickup time was supposed to be 7:10pm didn't get my food until 7:45, super annoying. The guy at the counter was not nice and the food ended up being average. Won't be back.
I would not recommend eating here unless the owners in the storefront. I’ve given this place multiple tries and they fail over and over again. When you walk in, they act like you’re a problem for them even though you’re a paying customer trying to order a meal. Their chicken tikka masala comes with this kind of red sauce that is not the warm orange glow you’re looking for and it will make you sick. I would not recommend eating here unless you are starving or desperate and if you are Either one of those things you can walk a little farther and find something else in the neighborhood.
