Mimi's Hummus Brooklyn Reviews
If you are into hummus then this is the spot. The hummus at Mimi’s is some of the best that I’ve ever tasted. Flavorful, perfect consistency, well seasoned, and fresh garnish (fluffy pitas too).
i love mimi’s hummus some things are a miss but everything that isn’t is amazing. they just added falafel to their menu and the sandwich is so good. i also love their tabouli salad their beets their branzino their dolmas and their hummus.
Mimi's catered to our small film shoot of 20 people and was affordable and very tasty authentic middle eastern food that left everyone fully satisfied! They worked with us for our late night schedule too. I highly recommend it.
Mimi's is a small, but fantastic hummus joint, though our favorite dish is the Mimi's Sandwich (brunch only). Their hummus is second to none and they give you pickles and olives along with pita for each item. A neighborhood favorite!
Loved the side plates - and fell in love with the favas dish too - Delicious!!! The lady helping us was so friendly too - a place we would go to again next time we are in the area. (I would happily eat here every day if I lived near by!)
Delicious middle eastern food in a warm and cozy environment. Mimi has one of the best Hummus you can find in Brooklyn. All dishes are not only delicious but beautiful! Highly recommend Mimi’s!
Yum!!!! Cute, cozy, and a nice alternative option if you want food that is healthy and delicious. The menu features creative dishes, without being too over the top. Pleasant service and if you appreciate a rustic yet modern ambience, you should definitely check this spot out.
Mimi's dishes are exquisite. She has never failed to make me happy. I love every single dish. The atmosphere and the staff. Everything and everyone comes together to your senses delight.
New location but classic neighborhood spot. Really amazing food and since the pandemic they have a lot of to-go options as well.
A beautiful place, courteous and smiling service, a wide variety of dishes from the Mediterranean cuisine with options for vegans, very tasty !!! Near by to the place there is a small delicatessen that sells a variety of products that you can take home. The prices are friendly. highly recommended!!!
Found this place on Yelp, 5 stars no doubt. Had the wrapped dates, All were amazing, bacon wrapped dates were out of this world. I would recommend just getting like 9 orders of wrapped dates. Anyway, our server was , he was amazing. 5 star service. It was my I called ahead to ask if we could have a bottle of champagne waiting for us at the table, and it was. 5 stars all around especially dates and
Love it! Very nice and cute place, in the (so quickly) developing area of BK. I usually go there during the week, because i prefer quiet over anything else when i am eating. The people are very friendly and relaxed, and everything looks very clean and fresh. I tried many of their dishes if not all of them, and for me it has been the same for the last few meals: Fresh tiny sliced Salad and Hummus (With few Pitta bread of course). Want to try something new? Try the place, i dont think it will remain a secret for much longer ;)
Great food fresh ingredients awesome staff. 1000%
A neighborhood gem with fabulous service and delicious food. The salads and spreads are unique and flavorful — I mean, what a lovely char on their baba ganoush. You can truly taste the quality of their ingredients and the love they put into their culinary work: chicken shawarma and moussaka as standouts. Great for date night, take out, or a meal with a small group of friends. They also do catering which is excellent as well!
We ordered the Iraqi pita sandwich and the kebab bowl, but couldn't decide between the spiced carrots or beets as sides, so we just ordered both, which we did not regret! Everything we ordered was delicious - flavorful, fresh, and, good portions. Highly recommend and will definitely order again!
Very fresh standard Israeli street food. Cute outdoor seating area.
Always great quality food when I order delivery
Everything I ordered was the best I ever had! The hummus is perfect, the fish incredible, the falafel out of this world. Zaatar pita with labne! Service was the sweetest and we never wanted to leave. We will be back! (Great place for vegetarians!)
Mimi's Hummus is AWESOME. Mimi is awesome herself. The food is consistently delicious. Had the best salmon I've ever had there. And I don't even like fish. :) The chocolate balls sprinkled with coconut (I forget what they're called) are insanely good. And I don't even have a sweet tooth. (Do you see a trend here?) In sum, you can't go wrong with Mimi's. Simply delectable.
My wife and I had our wedding catered by Mimi's and it was amazing. Great prices, great service, delicious food--everyone was raving about how delicious it was. Mimi was a pleasure to work with, and we are excited to continue to eat there in the future!
Best hummus I've ever had! In the dishes we tried they typically roasted something until it was wonderfully charred - broiled tomato sauce really complimented poached eggs. Simple, fresh, and really well made. Hummus includes a stewed chickpea paste in the middle. The cups were rusty though so that was weird.
Okay, there is much deliberation about who's Hummus is the best. Well, I can say that Mimi's is regarded by many as of the Gold Standard in NYC. Last night I was down at Brighton Beach and decided I wanted hummus, so I called them to see if they had outdoor seating, which they currently do. But, what they didn't tell me was that they stop seating at a certain point, which is before they close their counter service. So by the time I got there, they were closed. I was disappointed. Why didn't the guy on the phone mention this when I called? Oh well, the waitress told me the news when I got there. She mentioned coming again, and I told her that I don't live nearby, and then I left. Not a minute later as I made my way down the street she appeared with a brown paper bag of items in hand, a focaccia bread and two spreads, and handed it to me. WHAT?? She told me that she was sorry that I'd come so far, and that there is a good restaurant about a block in the direction I was walking that is still open. What venue does this??? I am blown away, not by free food (which is really nice) but by the sincere gesture. And it comes through just as well in their food. If you want some of the best hummus in NYC, or other an array of delicious treats or a meal, make the trip to Mimi's, they do care about you!!! But still, ask what time their table service ends LOL!!!
Ordered from Mimi's Hummus for an event I wanted to have catered. The service was impeccable and the food delicious. The cauliflower tahini salad was absolutely amazing, as was the lemon cake and punchim. We also ordered lemonade, we had such a blast! The hummus and baba ghanoush are also incredible. Whether at the restaurant, takeout or delivery, I can't recommend Mimi's Hummus enough.
My girlfriend and I went to their Valentine's Day dinner and were thrilled. We got a lot of excellent food for a great price. The atmosphere was wonderful and the service was excellent. being a vegan and all, Mimi's has a lot of great choices and it is our go to restaurant in the neighborhood!
Nailed it!!! I NEVER write reviews, but I just had to. Having grown up in middle east I always craved Hummus the way it tasted and how it used to be served back home, with the olive oil, lemon and warm chick peas. Here in NY every Hummus I tried was either in a super market (cold) or never tasted the same, Until, I landed up at Mimi's. To my surprise it not only tasted the same but perhaps even better in my opinion. I wish they had Falafel as well, but no doubt...the best I've have had so far. Well done chef!
Cute place, excellent service, exceptional food, good for vegetarians. I loved the hummus even though I really hate hummus. The mujadara was some of the best I have ever eaten although my daughter found it a bit sweet for her liking. The shashuka was also really tasty. Even the desserts and. Turkish coffee were excellent.
I came here last week during the weekend for having dinner out of curiosity to try some new cuisine and was very clueless. Usually places I go to just serve and dont explain portions and taste aspect. But this young girl that works there did such a great job at explaining to me what hummus taste like and what comes with salmon set that would fit my taste. Really excellent service! Will definitely come again for that fluffy peta bread and salmon set! So yummy.
Absolutely delicious food! Very fresh ingredients, pita is always on point. My go-to when I order Mediterranean.
Mimi's Place continues to amaze me! This was my second time ordering, and whether dining in or taking out, their food always brings a comforting taste of home. With each bite, you can feel the care and quality they put into their dishes. It's a humble spot that consistently delivers delicious meals!
Mimi's has been a local favorite for years, but there are some new additions that really take it to the next level. I loved the falafel plate because it includes the option of picking two sides in addition to the hummus, pita, and Israeli salad that is already included. There's a large wine and beer selection with interesting new beers. The front outdoor dining area is so cute and the service was excellent as always. Love this restaurant even more than ever!
We went to Mimi’s Hummus before a concert at King’s theater and it was really great. Mushroom hummus, side orders of carrots and beets were incredible! Had a delicious mocktail. Enjoyed the outdoor dining.
We absolutely love Mimi's! We originally went for a tasting to have them cater our wedding and the experience was exceptional. It's an intimate and beautiful space and Mimi and Iskra were both so warm and kind and made us feel so welcome. We ultimately went with someone who was familiar with our venue, but we loved them so much and knew we wanted to include their food, so we had them cater our rehearsal dinner! It absolutely did not disappoint, all of the food is amazing. It was a huge hit (even with the pickiest of our family members who went back for seconds/thirds) and we were so happy to share the incredible food with our friends and family. Mimi and Iskra were a pleasure to work with and I can't recommend Mimi's enough!
Great choices for an authentic experience. Highly recommend the olives, lappe? (yoghurt), and regular pita breads served warm. Small wait but you should be fine if you get there early. They share a space with a local beer store, so everyone is happy!
One of my favorite places in the area. I hear people complain about the prices, but I think it’s totally worth it for the quality, consistency, ambiance, and service. Everything I’ve had here is great. Also always get a side of hot sauce.
Loved Mimi’s! Everything is homemade with love. And get the pistachio cake ‼️
Hired Mimi's for our wedding catering and it was incredible! Multiple guests have said to me afterwards that the food was incredible with some even saying it was the best wedding food they've ever had! I am a private chef so you KNOW I needed good food at my wedding. My husband and I went to multiple wedding caterers and did tastings and to me, it was all boring wedding food. When we did our tasting with Mimi, I just new it was the one. The food was actually restaurant-quality and you can tell it is cooked with love and passion. Also, very reasonably priced for wedding catering cuz that can be verrry expensive! Mimi was super sweet and even came on a site visit with us so that she knew what the kitchen was like. I couldn't be happier- actually I could...if I had actually gotten to eat some of the delicious dessert they served but I was too busy cutting the cake when that happened...well, I guess that will have to be at my next wedding! Juuust kidding. Anyways, thank you so much, Mimi, we couldn't be happier with everything you did for us!
As someone who almost didn’t order because of the recent negative reviews I am so glad I gave this restaurant a try. Mimi’s Shwarma Platter was delicious as well as a generous portion of chicken, rice and the side salads. I didn’t experience the old location but I’ll be a repeat customer of the new spot for takeout or casual dine-in. The cakes looked delicious too, and I liked the selection of to-go and pantry items.
Loved the food. I actually only ordered takeout, but I have walked past many times in the neighborhood and it is such a charming little place from the outside. This evening I decided to order the branzino. It comes skin-side up on a bed of long grain rice and lentils. The fish was perfectly cooked, almost buttery, with a light flavor of good olive oil, lemon, and something simple and delicious that I can’t even identify (possibly an herb). I thought the portion looked small, but it was actually exactly perfect for a weeknight dinner. I will certainly be dining in next time I have company in town. Update: no more branzino but they have a great salmon dish that I also recommend.
Wow — absolutely delicious to the last bite. I had the Mimi’s Platter with beautifully seasoned lamb kebab, crunchy farro tabbouleh, and tender carrots. The hummus was chef’s kiss, and the pickles had the perfect snap — great texture without being too sour. So glad to have this spot nearby. Can’t wait to come back.
Excellent experience. Best meal I have had out anywhere in long time. Staff great, atmosphere great. And best part, was my birthday weekend and my amazing daughter paid the bill. She has arrived at adulthood. Tears in my eyes every time I think of it.
A last minute decision to grab dinner after a school sporting event and what great luck to find Mimi’s. Ordered the Chicken Shawarma bowl and it was the perfect balance of fresh, delicious but not heavy. I could eat this at least once a week. Soup and hummus also great but when you find a simple dish done exceptionally well…how can you not leave happy? Great service and atmosphere earned Mimi’s five stars.
My mom, who is visiting me from out of town, absolutely loved Mimi’s! She said this is the best restaurant meal she has had in months. Such a cute little place for lunch! Their decor — even down to the silverware & water glasses — was absolutely amazing! Such a cute place! The falafel was probably the best falafel I’ve ever had in the area — and I’m vegetarian so that’s saying a lot! Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The staff was so lovely, especially the woman in the front that mentioned she had a daughter! She was so thoughtful and kind. My mom was very impressed after visiting here, and as a local, so was I!
I stopped by this charming little place this weekend for lunch. The service and food here is really good. I ordered the roasted cauliflower and the chicken shawarma. Both were very tasty and had good flavors. They have a decent sized menu in spite of the place being small, and the prices are reasonable, in my opinion. Now, don't be alarmed that they do outdoor dining only because they make sure that the greenhouse setup outside is comfortable for the customers. Inside, they also have a little store that sells food, beverages (including beer), plants, and baked goods. I definitely recommend and I will most certainly stop by again in the near future.
If you are looking into treating yourself to a healthy meal enjoying an evening of dining outdoors- this place - the whole block is pretty authentic - strongly recommend Mimi's Hummus if you are near the area! i was indulging too much in the pita and humm- THE BEET AND CALIFLOWER was amazing PLUS - THE TRADITIONAL HUMMUS is a must! Hands down THE BEST hummus i had in NYC! Definitely recommend you to order extra pita, and grab a beer from the local section! It seems to be many people's favorite place- You could also order to go and they have a wide range of selection of local beer, cidar and kombycha beer, bubblies & wine & beverages, and food, including baked goods. i am eager explore more in the future-!
5 course meal, very affordable: Whipped hummus fresh and fluffy with warm, puffy pita. Savory roasted cauliflower with warm tahini dressing. Zesty, bright salad wakes up the palette and balances that buttery tahini. Hearty moussaka. Floral honey cake with Turkish coffee. Nice outdoor seating. Mini market for fresh vegetables, craft beer and imported products on your way out. Outdoor seating, good pandemic precautions. Sidenote: front row seat to fire station across the street. I had no idea how busy they are! They barely get the truck parked and they're suiting up and heading back out...
Such a nice place with such nice people. I went there with my sister and a friend who was there and felt that he must take us there. The Hummus is delicious (we had masabacha), the Pita bread was fresh and delicious, and the place is very relaxed.
One of my favorite local go-to's for years for dining in and delivery. Hummus is rich and delicious. Both the cauliflower and beet mezzes are very special. However, the prices of the entrees keep getting higher and higher. The branzino and kebab bowls started out around $16 a couple of years ago and is now up to $19. Ordering delivery from here now is no small feat.
I love Mimi's for their hummus. Not as crazy about their new items (pita pockets, etc), but the hummus will always bring me back, especially with a side of labneh. It's a shame they took the meat hummus off the menu--it was nutty and savory and delicious.
God take out and it was delicious. One problem though: the pita to hummus ratio was abysmal! One meager slice of pita for a large bowl of hummus. You HAVE to ask for extra (I'd say 3-4 slices of the small pitas they give would be enough). Happy to come back but when getting take out as I did, be warned!
Myself and my company ordered the lunch special. We found the food to be good quality and I could see why other reviewers think that it is only worthwhile to come for the lunch special. I had the kebab, which was flavorful but only included 2 smallish meatballs on a bed of herbed rice. Otherwise the beet salad was quite good and the pita was piping hot. My company had the Mujaradda which was tangy and flavorful, but there were not a ton of lentils. I tried his roasted cauliflower which was full of tahini flavor -- and unexpectedly cold. It was a good place to try but I'm not sure if I fell in love with the food. That said, the interior is well-decorated and the dining space is filled with natural light, which makes the dining experience pleasant in my memory.
With the Cortelyou strip blowing up like a Brooklyn strip should, Mimi's is the perfect addition to the variety of eateries offered there. I will always love Mediterranean food so it definitely gets a star just for being my favourite cuisine. A bunch of us came here to try the breakfast menu. Firstly let's talk about the decor and vibe. Mimi's is definitely a tiny spot with very limited seats but if you come at the right hours, you'll be seated right away. The kitchen is right behind the counter with open view so you can see everything that goes on there. For me, that's a good thing. I like watching the chefs work. We were seated right away and water and menus were brought within seconds. Once we ordered we did not have to wait long for our dishes to come. They are extremely vegetarian friendly which is a big plus these days. My absolute favourite dish was the shakshuka. Texture, taste/spice was perfect. The tomato sauce was chunky with lots of garlic and onions added for flavor. Yum. The pancakes are different than the usual pancakes you'd get for brunch. Lots of honey and very very sweet. Not the biggest fan. Coffee was perfectly strong and free refills. They did have these chocolate rumballs that we ordered which were so damn amazing. The perfect end to a great breakfast. The owners and waitstaff were an absolute pleasure to deal with and we will definitely be back for more.
This place is delicious! Everything there is well made, tasty and high quality. It's good for delivery and their location is cute and service is usually good... And you can watch the fire engines across the street. I will say that they are quite expensive, especially items like the beets. Especially for this neighborhood, but if I got this kind of value for money in midtown I'd still be a bit frustrated. I've stopped ordering from them unless I'm not that hungry or I'm really treating myself.
Mimi’s has been around the entire time I’ve lived in the area and I’ve always used the small grocery shop portion for hummus and other Mediterranean salads and spreads because the quality is incredible and they really do have my favorite hummus. The staff is always apathetic and weird, not mean or anything, just kind of…..perpetually annoyed. The atmosphere is hit or miss because of the layout and the fact it can get really hot in the greenhouse style “outdoor” seating. Prices are in line with similar places but in my opinion $8 is a little high for a small container of hummus. It’s still really good and consistent, so there’s that.
I frequented their previous location and am disappointed about the set up of the new location. My favorite meal was their branzino but I have not seen it on the menu at their new location. Their eggplant salad is amazing and their olive oil pistachio cake. Yum!
Food is exceptional. Their zataar pita was so good, I had to buy some for home. Also love their fresh hummus. Their braided beets are also delicious. Staff is nice but had to be reminded about our missing pita from the platter. Wish they had more seating. Their outdoor seating at their old location looked better than the new one.
The best hummus this side of the Atlantic Ocean. Seriously that good. Came here on a recommendation from a friend and I was not disappointed. The service was A+ and again the hummus was out of this world good. Will definitely be back for the hummus and try some of their other items on the menu.
Great little spot with little patio and market area, order to eat in or to go, and market items (plastic containers of hummus, tabbouleh, baba ganoush, tzatziki, pitas etc). Sandwiches available (great chicken donair very generous portion), shashuska sandwich much smaller. Sandwich approximately $18, hummus and dips about $8-10. Will return for sure! Be mindful of automatic +20% tip even on takeaway items at market.
Chandeliers are fancy and they are bright too. But they are expensive and kind of high maintenance and take a lot of power. Mimi's hummus is somewhat like that. I have left hungry and a empty pocket. The food itself isn't too bad and the decor should appeal to a broad audience- hard to describe the eclectic look they went for. Probably one those hit and miss places- hit it once and see if it's a miss or not!
I wanted to fall in love... but couldnt. The chummus was flavorful, but served cold- I was expecting the authentic Israeli WARM chummus. The “iraqi pita” ie sabich (give or take) was ice cold From top to bottom. The potatoes were naked no flavor no salt, same for the egg. The eggplant was flavorful, as was the cabbage and amba/tahini but they were only on the top, not layered into the pita. The kebabs on rice were tasty, rice was fantastic (credit where it is due), and the onion and tomato were good. We grabbed a few items from the lovely market stocked with products that reminded me of Israel and Morocco. Might give it another shot and try some other menu items in the future. You could feel the authenticity in The intention, but the execution was lacking.
The place itself is very cute. The decor is simple and chic and there is art and little lights that make it feel intimate and homey. I got the shwarma and an order of hummus for dinner. The pita was hot and delicious. The schwarma had a weird spice to it that I wasn't a fan of. Overall, it's fine but there are definitely better middle eastern places in Brooklyn. If you're going to grab a drink or coffee it's a fine spot to go, but I wouldn't recommend the sandwiches.
Literally just walked out of Mimi's Hummus - if not for the service, this would have been hands down a 5 star review. However, to my disappintmentd, the lack of service utterly overshadowed the quality of its food, so much so that I felt compelled to write this review as soon as I walked out of the restaurant. The food was delicious in its own right - we ordered the Israeli pickles ($4), traditional hummus ($9), and a bowl of chicken shawarma ($14). The pickles were tasty but on the softer side; the hummus was deliciously smooth; the shawarma was not off a spit as we hoped but flavorful nonetheless. We also ordered an extra pita ($1) for the hummus (yes, this restaurant charges per pita, unlike traditional middle eastern restaurants that provide at least 3-4 from the start). The pita was fluffy and definitely authentic. I would say the food was great but nothing to go out of my way for. Unfortunately, the good review ends there. The hummus came relatively quickly but for some reason, we ended up waiting 45 minutes for the shawarma. The table of two next to us (also a table of 2) got their order not too long after they sat down, while we were still waiting for our pita by the time they finished eating. I think the waitress probably just forgot about the shawarma and the pita as we had to remind her that we were still waiting for it. When we finally got our pita and shawarma, we saw that the waitress only gave us 1 pita when we had ordered 2. We asked for the check soon after we finished eating and When I thought nothing else could go wrong, of course something did. We noticed we were charged for an extra pita and had to ask the waitress to remove it from our bill. The thing that bothered me most is that all of this happened without any acknowledgement or apology from the waitress, which shows that she doesn't really care about her customers. Up to you to decide whether or not Mimi's Hummus is worth the terrible service, but I will not be going back anytime soon.
This place was cool a year ago😕 But since then it has lost it's authenticity. It took forever for the starters to come out, which was a plate of hummus. The food was okay and the service as well, but we'll overpriced. The "crafts beer" shop next door was just disappointing, there are no other words for the experience. Disappointing.
Good food and healthy portions as well. I've always had takeout so I'm not sure about the experience while eating there. The place itself is a little small but "cozy" would actually be a good way to describe it because it doesn't feel cramped. I took two stars off because they haven't given me any utensils or napkins the last two times I went there. Another reason I gave them a 3 star rating is because customers should be aware of their prices online. Those are their lunch special prices. I feel like this is a bit misleading and should be updated on this page. The prices are already on the high end even with their lunch prices so for them to increase them even more during other hours is a little too much. For those reasons, I am taking off two stars.
Great little spot with authentically great food. Food doesn't come out very quick and on the day we were there there seemed to be quite the stress between the chef and the server. We had a front row seat sitting closest to the serving area and they weren't very quiet about it. Nonetheless it was good food and we enjoyed ourselves. My only wish was that I could have eaten more with how good it was! Next time, we we allow ourselves more time that's for sure.
On the the menu, the fish dish read as, 'delicious' - on the taste buds, the meal registered as Disappointing. Perhaps I expected more flavour since it's Middle Eastern/Persian. It seemed like an American salt & pepper sprinkle. I was enticed enough to return. I have to commend the young server with the braided hair for her pleasant attitude!
I went here a couple of years ago and it was great! I can't remember what I ordered. This time I ordered the Iraqi pita and it was so gross. The cabbage was so sour and bitter that I couldn't stop making this squirmish face. I felt like I was biting into a lemon! They really need to re-do that pita recipe. I really did want to finish it but it was $9 so made myself finish it. There was a small amount of eggplants and potatoes. My husband had the Shakshuka pita and it tasted a lot better than mine. Though it reminded me of meatball parmigiana without the meatballs. I would give his a 3.5 star and mine a 1 star. I don't think I'll be going again.
Service was great and we didn't have to wait for a table around 12:30pm on a Sunday, but that is probably because this restaurant has declined lately. As soon as we sat we were told that they were out of 3 menu items on the small brunch menu, and they did not have juice for mimosas (also listed on the menu). The more traditional menu item was delicious while the Israeli pancakes disappointed. I would be interested to try again in case this was a fluke.
Was excited to see three types of shakshuka offered for brunch. Ordered the traditional with tomato stew, onions, sunny side up eggs in skillet. Eggs were hard (not sunny side up at all), tomato stew flavor just so so. Came with one tiny pita bread, that's it. Plate of hummus wasn't the best I've ever had, definitely not worth the price. Tiny restaurant was hot and stifling.
This place is BYOP (bring your own pita). We ordered the hummus and it comes with just one small, seemingly microwave heated pita for $10. We felt a bit ripped off and left. Seating is a bit snug. The service was friendly, though.
Average middle eastern fare. I used to love Mimi’s hummus for tasty small plates. My recent couple of visit have left me very disappointed. The dishes are just bland and lacked any flavor. Carrots tasted almost bitter, cauliflower had no flavor at all. Hummus, labneh and pita were still ok. We ordered Turkish coffee which was watery and tasted like regular coffee with cardamom. With all the other great choices for middle eastern in Brooklyn and ny i would not go back to Mimi’s.
This place has great food. It has really started issues since they’ve moved—the service has dropped terribly…it’s a bit ridiculous. Examples from recent visits: 1. I order a chicken pita. They bring it out on a taco tray holder. Only the holder on an outdoor table. I ask for a plate and cutlery (it’s quite large) to eat it and they look at me like I asked for the moon. They then bring me a tiny teacup plate to eat from. The sandwich is large and dripping all over the table. 2. I buy a piece of their cake to go. They ask if they can give it to me straight. No napkin, holder, or anything… like straight in my hand. They say they have nothing to put it in… I point to a small to go box and ask if I can get it in that. I do, but it’s so weird. 3. I ask to use their restroom (it’s a sit down restaurant) and they ask me to go across the street. It feels really weird to have a full, sit down restaurant without a bathroom. 4. I pop in at 9:15 PM (they close at 10PM) and try to get something to go. They tell me they’re closed even though everything says 10PM. I ask if they’re closing early and they say they’ve always closed at 9PM (that just isn’t the case). The service is so lacking… and the minimum tip is set very high… which makes it kinda comedic. The food is great but the service is so terrible that I just can’t go anymore.
Food is getting worse and worse. They used to be so tasty, now it's salty and nasty, especially the chicken shawarma pita.
I was trying to make a order yesterday to deliver to my home. I don’t like to give people bad reviews so I slept on it a day, but they got me really hungry !! First they was saying let me check if your within delivery range. I live less than 1/4 mile from this place, than she tells me they don’t do delivery for less than $35. Than she tells me that they don’t take cash, They say that we should support our community but this place don’t deserve our support !! It’s really expensive very little food and it’s not good at all !! Give your money to a business that deserve it, not this place !!!
the food tastes like a cheap knockoff of the real recipes, stolen dishes with less seasoning and inauthentic flavors. actually crazy they can get away with this….
I ordered pick up of two chicken shawarma in pita bread, on the manu it’s supposed to be $12 each with tax as far as I know should be $26.13. When I arrived to picked it up. The girls that work at the cashier tells me it’s $32.99 I asked her why it is so much I order two chicken shawarma, she said it plus tax when when I tried calculate it didn’t seems right. But I was in rush so I just left. Then I arrived to my friend and we set to eat together. This shawarma was so average below, wasn’t barely tahini or and meat was way over cooked and dry we didn’t even finished it. Way over price which I still didn’t understand why and doesn’t tasted good at all…. Over all wouldn’t recommend to try that place.
Price for pita jumped up a lot in a short time. I learned from this to ask next time. I am more upset that the counterperson today could not wait until I moved out of the way to grab a menu. She basically pushed me out of the way without a word of apology. She was abrupt and unfriendly during the transaction and then this way way worse. Made me feel like an object in the way that was not even human, and it caused physical discomfort when she touched me! This person should be spoken to.
The food was actually so nasty, we received it cold like three times after asking to replace it. The staff was very upset and told us they couldn’t remake it. So expensive for trash food. Never again And I mean ever
Bland. Overpriced. If you’re a POC you get weird vibes from the employees. Take your money to other places on Cortelyou.
Order system is in disarray and noone answers the phone. Things are haphazardly put into bags and it doesn't matter what the item is. Had the delivery arrive spilled and breaking out of the bag. Couldn't get a person to talk to. Terrible experience, process and service. In addition, took longer than usual and so then after a long day, waited longer and then still had to find nourishment. I hung up with GrubHub after I contacted them because I couldn't get anyone on the phone direct at the restaurant. Maybe 15 minutes later, I got a call from someone asking if I speak Spanish. I understand Spanish to some degree but don't SPEAK fluently, SO I said NO. I call back maybe 5 mins after that and someone asks WHAT DO I WANT??? (And that they are closed!!!). A LOT of hassle for a meal. Won't be ordering again (and have I been ordering for the past TEN years).
edit: ate the desserts and they were some of the most disgusting things I've ever eaten. taking away that second star shawarma was so absurdly salty it was inedible. then the hummus was so underseasoned, it tasted like raw chickpeas. for the price, it's really shocking how bad this is. I do not understand the reviews but there's no shot I'd try this again. head over to Ayat, it's significantly better.
Not authentic at all. I ordered for delivery. Really a knock off. Then I realized its "israeli" which makes sense. Not middle eastern. Very bland. Avoid at all costs.
The food was just so disappointing and bland. Felt like I wasted my money
The place is awful. It’s just a small corner for takeout. I traveled there specifically to sit and have hummus, but found out they hardly have any seating (and no bathroom). Their menu is unclear, and I specifically asked for a platter with hummus and shawarma, paid $30, and then got something weird with a bunch of tired vegetables. I left without eating it. Who the hell eats shawarma with cauliflower? Stay away from this place.
I ordered the shakshuka and it was very bland. It didn’t taste like how an authentic shakshuka should. It was literally tomato sauce and egg and nothing else. No coriander, no peppers, no feta cheese, and no spice. Also this is a Tunisian dish and it is not Israeli.
Absolute scam, the shawarma bowl was 95% rice and 2 major items were missing from my order. When I called there was no manager I could speak to, just some rude guy interrupting me and unprofessional. Never ordering again from this place.
I visited the restaurant alone on a hot 90-degree day and chose a table in the shaded patio area. The table, which could be configured for either four or two people, was part of a flexible outdoor seating arrangement. Despite the restaurant not accepting reservations, the server informed me that I couldn’t use the table for four. I kindly requested to stay if the table was split, but my request was denied.
