Mominette Brooklyn Reviews
Warm atmosphere. The French onion soup is great, everything you want from a FOS and more. Servers are friendly and accommodating. They have a selection of wines. I enjoy eating here.
Food is really good (especially brunch), prices are competitive, and the backyard is beautiful. Best of all though, the service here is top-notch. Our server made a totally understandable and minor mistake that delayed the arrival of my food by 5 minutes tops, and the staff lavished free food/drinks on us to make up for something that we didn't even think of as a big deal. Really made us feel like we were at an establishment that truly cares about its reputation and its clientele.
Wish I got a chance to take a photo of the food but I ate it before the thought dawned on me. Exquisite food, beautiful presentation, and phenomenal music! Really nice intimate atmosphere, the space is nicely decorated as well. Staff is lovely!
Simple small bistro. Beautiful patio. Awesome food and people. Neighborhood secret. Loved the oysters , duck confit, chicken coq au vin. Great drinks.
Our favorite brunch place with friends… The patio at the back of the restaurant is a nice, cool place to go on a brunch with friends. They also offer mimosa pitchers at very reasonable prices which is always great when you’re 3 or more people. Their eggs bendict and chicken waffles is the best!
We came in as a party of 15, celebrating for my mother's birthday. Usually, service can be difficult for large parties, but the team offered excellent service quickly. And the food was delicious! I enjoyed the entire meal, but the escargot in particular was heavenly. Not so heavy on the wallet either considering how good the food is. I highly recommend you visit!
My mom and I passed this restaurant on our way to the supermarket. It was a really nice find. It was my mom’s first experience with French cuisine and it really made her happy. We had the charcuterie to start, along with the seafood gratin and beef stew for entrees. Good portions and solid simple French cooking. Everything was flavorful but not overpowering. Overall delicious and satisfying. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. We would be happy to return.
This is a must! The price was fair for the portion was adequate and the taste was matching. I had an avocado toast and my cousin had a burger with fries. We really enjoyed our time. The drinks were so hard to choose from we ordered 4 and sipped and sipped. Service was relaxed yet attentive. Funny enough, to whom we presumed was the owner; was outside humbly cleaning the front as he made a little joke with us, which prompted us to go inside. Lovely!
Best French restaurant in Brooklyn. The staff was knowledgeable of French food (trust me, this is important), super available and fast. The bar got our drinks 100% despite the barman being new! Amazing! The oysters were super fresh. The Salmon was not dry and their onion soup is authentic. Everything we had was superb. There was a late jazz group playing (something new) which ended our night beautifully. Try this place. No regrets. 10/10 and the price is very reasonable. Keep returning!
Hidden Gem. This was the first time I actually did outdoor dining since the pandemic. The staff /service was great, attentive, followed safe guidelines and made me feel comfortable. Dinner and drinks were great. The plates were a good portion size and flavorful. I’d definitely come back and really enjoyed eating in the outdoor patio area, felt like a secret garden in the back.
Had a burger and fries through delivery and it was absolutely outstanding. Still hot, fresh, and so tasty. Great portion sizes and well-packed. Great menu selection and easy to customize orders. Definitely recommend checking them out.
This was an amazing place to eat. Real cozy, authentic French cuisine. Didn't have a drink, but I went with the salmon and it was maybe the best salmon I've ever had, legit. Pricey but it's NYC and to be honest I feel like I got my money's worth for sure. Really enjoyed it. Can't ask for more than that.
The main thing I loved about this place was the outside patio atmosphere, it was just mesmerizing with all the tiny light bulbs. The food was also amazing, I ordered the steak fires or fries I'm not so sure about the name. I chose my steak medium well and it turned out great. I really enjoyed this place with my family. I highly recommend coming to this place if you're in Brooklyn (especially the night). Staff was incredibly nice and helpful as well.
Went for Valentine’s Day dinner with my partner. The place was packed and tables were clearly camping. Great host somehow got us to a great table quickly, excellent service throughout, attentive, perfectly timed. The food was fantastic, every dish, especially the duck and rack of lamb. Was our first time dining here and were very impressed, total experts, will be back soon! Thank you!
Attended on a whim with a best friend for brunch. Did not have to wait more than 10 minutes. The Bloody Mary was one of the best I've had in quite some time. I got the Eggs de Parme which were eggs Benedict with prosciutto and melted gruyere. Simply delightful. The service was great, with the servers working as a team. It was just the start to the day we needed.
Absolutely delicious, options for almost any kind of eater (except vegan).
I got the Coup de Foudre to drink, and we split the cheese plate, the steak tartare, the arugula salad with goat cheese, the French onion soup, and the steak frites. All of it was amazing. I don't even drink gin normally, but that drink has me rethinking things. They were closing up early, but still sat us and put all our orders in. It was so good and we will definitely be coming back.
I love the food here, atmosphere and everything. I been twice and i dont change for nothing the food there. Just an observation, because always is packed, i stand for a few minutes to just went in and no body told me please wait for being seated. Just keep that in mind. But all of them is REALLY GOOD!!!!!!!!!!! ❤️🙏🏼
I love Mominette, close by me so I go pretty often. Love their potatoes gratin, escargot, oysters, basically anything on the menu. They've got a great drink selection too, staff is great, just make sure you get there early if it's getting late as the kitchen closes before the bar.
food was really great, bartender was amazing truly made the night ❤️
Great oysters and vibe. Duck is scrumptious.
This is our favorite brunch spot in our neighborhood. I have yet to try a dish I didn't like; everything is tasty, & fresh. Staff is very friendly, the atmosphere cosy, and their patio is lovely.
Ok 5 star and real Europe place here. Bertrand welcomed in the door and said " welcome garden or patio " and Trust me you want patio. The salmon Benedict was perfect the egg intact and not over cooked and salmon sooo juicy. Then I ordered a side of toast and they brought almost melted butter !!!! I mean that is great service! The coffee super strong and REAL SPLENDA ! Great vibe music and so chill
The workers on Monday night were outstanding they made my night the food was unworldly best restaurant in Bushwick
kinda don't want to leave this review because i like keeping it my secret but charles and francis always make it the best time. it's like walking into a well kept home
I booked this place for my wife’s 40th birthday and we had an absolute wonderful evening! The owner Bertrand and his team have done everything to make it a success, ranging from quality of food, custom menus, tasty cakes, screen to project memories and constant flow of Prosecco 😍 I highly recommend it for anyone, small or large group! ❤️
The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. I really liked it here and will definitely be back. The oysters were great, and escargot were surprisingly better than some I’ve had in Paris even though they’re served a little differently. I had a thoroughly enjoyable experience 10/10
We came here for Valentine’s dinner and everything was incredible. Oysters, beef bourguignon, but the real highlight was the Norwegian salmon with ratatouille. Great wine and cocktails and the service was wonderful. All around great meal—one of the best I’ve had in Bushwick! Can’t wait to come back from brunch sometime.
Used to come here years ago and finally moved back and was so happy to see that it’s as amazing as it ever was. Charlie the bartender was super friendly and sweet to me and my friends. And Emily our waitress was super attentive. Highly recommend.
I love coming to Mominette! It’s my favorite neighborhood restaurant. The food is delicious & vibes are always immaculate. I really appreciate how warm & hospitable the team is- Larry, Charles, Emily, and Francis are always so kind & make the best drinks!
I went to this restaurant with my daughter while visiting NYC. The food is phenomenal, the atmosphere is charming, warm and inviting. The music was great as well. The owner welcomes you and in takes care of you. I sure wish I lived closer to go here more often.
What an absolutely amazing experience. The food was delicious, the restaurant is so cute and quaint and the service was impeccable. We had brunch on a Sunday and will definitely be back for dinner.
Had a fun little date night here. The whole place felt really homey, and I loved the decor. Service was super friendly, and made sure they could accommodate my peanut and cashew allergy. I tried ratatouille for the first time, and I loved it. Perfectly cooked salmon as well. Will be back!
I really love this cozy, intimate restaurant. It may be small, but it delivers big on flavor. You have to start with the escargot--it's a must. The standout for me, though, is the duck confit. Lightly fried for perfectly crispy skin, with tender, fall-off-the-bone duck, served alongside chips--absolutely delicious! Finishing the night with the crème brûlée was the perfect touch.
lovely place with attentive and caring staff. we were celebrating a birthday and our server noticed when the birthday girl left the table to come ask us which dessert she would prefer. the food was delicious. recommend the oysters and the chicken. not primarily vegetarian options but they do have some. hope to return soon!
Went here a couple of Sundays ago in the early evening. It was pretty much empty so we got to pick our seat!! Servers were so kind. We had oysters, escargot, and I got the handsome, the incredible, the tantalizing Beef Bourguignon. It was So good. It was everything I’ve ever wanted in a beef stew. The perfect amount of food. I haven’t stopped thinking about it, which means I WILL be coming back so we can be reunited once more!!!
I came here for brunch. I recommend sitting outside if you can since its lovely. The service was pretty regular but the wait staff is good. We got the coffee- sort of ok- and then the pancake, the ratatouille omlette and the burger. I highly recommend the pancake, it has a cake consistency and comes with a delicious strawberry butter. I also loved my burger, it was one of the better ones Ive had from a preparation standpoint, I got it with the blue cheese. The ratatouille omlette wasnt really a stand out but it was good. The space outdoors is lots of little cafe tables and chairs, it has a roof on top in case it rains and has one big group table for shares and large parties. I think I will be back for dinner
Solid neighborhood joint, good happy hour & good food. Normally have great service here and don't mind because everyone has bad days, but our shoulder-length-hair server tonight was mad rude for genuinely no reason (and got our drink order wrong).
My friend recommended that I stop in. I met the bartender on duty the previous week. I just had the dollar oysters, so I got myself a dozen for their weekday happy hour. They use ice pellets, which is not my favourite, but the oysters were delicious. Really basic bistro menu, (which is good, nothing pretentious), and I have yet to enjoy a proper meal. Looking forward to the lamb. The rusted front door squeaked loudly, so I went to my car to get some lubricant/rust protectant, and by the time I left, it stopped squeaking. A few very attractive customers had already come in by late afternoon/early evening on a Tuesday. I think they went to the backyard. Staff is very friendly. I'll definitely be back with more to report.
Food: - French Onion Soup - Good flavor profile - Escargot - Good flavor - Mominette Burger - Good, average burger, nothing special. - Coq Au Vin - Good - Duck Breast - Good (skin crispy!, yet they could have render the fat a bit more to my tasting). Service: The service is perfect for me. The servers will leave you alone and will come to you upon request. It's not your typical American restaurant that its about turning tables. Here you will get to chill and spend time with your love ones and friends without feeling being monitored. Ambiance: It's your Brooklyn restaurant standard, nothing grand (but the food is special), it is quaint and the loudness level is low which you can actually hear conversations with your group.
Pretty good food. Escargot, oysters, pasta, burger. Rack of lamb ok. Unfortunately out of mussels when we were there. Nice atmosphere, friendly service.
Pretty, cute vintagey bar & restaurant! Loved their oysters and loved that they allow you to order them in any amount. That’s super customer friendly. LOVED their Conway oysters. Hands down the best $1 oysters I have had. Decent drinks! Fries were not great, surprised they weren’t better for $6. They need to be crispier & less dry. Overall great service as well. I’d go back.
Mominette is a really great deviation from the casual dining spots you typically find around this part of Bushwick. Vibe like your usual French spot. Very cute and small with dim mood lighting. Good for dates or small groups, bad for children/larger groups. The menu is also what you'd expect from a decent French bistro, with a few interesting additions. I had the skate fish, which I hardly ever see despite how easy they are to catch locally. It was delicious. The escargot was decent and the french onion soup was great.
I've biked past Mominette countless times, thinking to myself, "I'm gonna go there soon". Well "soon" finally arrived. This place is always bustling, hence the interest. mominette is a low key, dope spot with boozy cocktails. We had the escargot and mussels, needless to say they were delicious. They also have a backyard that is super private. By the time we left every table was full, including the backyard. Def hit this place up if you're reading this..
Came here on a Monday for their happy hour. Their inside is cozy with bar and wall seating. Weather was great so we sat outback in their patio. Oysters came with lemon wedges, vinaigrette and cocktail sauce. The lemon wasn’t the freshest (see pic) but the oysters were. Cute lil spot, will be back!
Lovely neighborhood spot. Excellent coq au vin and ratatouille. Don’t come for the steak frites, but this place does the other classics well. Cozy atmosphere, non-fussy, great for a night with friends. A touch understaffed on the bar (Melissa is amazing), but drinks great and food came out fast. Charles was our waiter, he was endlessly patient and friendly.
We decided to visit this spot on a weekend morning for brunch. We walked in without a reservation and were able to find seating without any issue. I'd arrive coming during the less busy times because they could get packed pretty fast. We opted for the mimosa carafe and I got the house burger. Great service and good dishes made for an enjoyable experience. The restaurant itself is quaint and gives off Parisian Brasserie vibes with wood finishes and a high top bar. I'd definitely come back for brunch and other meals too.
Very nice and Cozy French resto to go to. Great for dates, or meetings with friends. Prices are very raisonable. We had - Loster Bisque (Best! I've ever had!!!) Délicieux!!! Very light, no potatoes in it, A MOST TRY! -Ratatouile, taste wise it was excellent. My only complaint was the presentation, they went for a lazy one, it looks like some boil/sautéed big pieces of squash. -Escargot, that was our first time, we were suprised, not exactly was we were expecting. Lightly chewy, tasted like salted pork. It was ok. Something to try at least once. My drink was Douce Passion, mildly sweet passion fruit cocktail served in a tiny glass, it was excellent just too little. I definitely recommend this place. Bon Appetit!!
We have always loved this place. The food is still high quality but the ambience has really suffered. We ate there with friends. The music was loud and jarring rock and roll. The lighting was harsh and bright. We asked the staff to address the music several times but it never seemed to happen. For the price this place could do better. We're not likely to risk another visit which is a shame because we have liked it for a long time.
When I arrived, our guests had already ordered several tapas size dishes. Unfortunately, they ordered almost exclusively things that I do not care for in general, and cost prohibited me from ordering more. Therefore, it's hard to say much about the food. The beef bourguignon was good, not great, somewhat underseasoned. The serving staff was attentive. The real problem is that they clearly only want young and slim customers. The seating is extremely uncomfortable & and won't work for anyone with aches and pains. My chair felt like it would break at any moment, and it was too small to sit fully on. Likewise, the table was so small that I had to sort of crunch up to fit. This ruined my ability to enjoy the meal and company. This restaurant is significantly overpriced for this miserable experience.
The location of the restaurant is definitely in a very good place. The atmosphere is really great. I sat in the garden and it was very comfortable. Chill.. You are in a quiet garden in the center of the city. I ordered a hamburger. It was the worst hamburger I have ever eaten in New York. I mean, a hamburger you eat at McDonald's is probably much better. I had a bad experience in this regard as well. But it is definitely a place where you can come with your friends, have a drink and sit. The bar looks very strong but I haven't tried anything. I only had a bad experience with the food. But still Thanx ❤️🔥🤘🏻
Came here on a Sunday afternoon for brunch, service was great with being seated right away and orders taken. Food selection for brunch was cute. Ordered eggs Benny, eggs parm, and Mac and cheese. Food presentation was nice, however the food lacked seasoning. The eggs Benny my eggs were over poached almost hard boiled egg like and the sauce needed a bit more seasoning to hold it together. The eggs parm was very fresh however it was bland in the seasoning. The Mac and cheese was very cheesy but again very bland, they needed to place seasoning in the sauce it just tasted like pasta and cheese thrown together. Overall nice atmosphere for a quick brunch.
This restaurant used to be a favorite date spot for my girlfriend and I a few years back, however, it seems the food quality has decreased significantly. We started our meal with an order of the French onion soup and a side of asparagus. We were disappointed to receive a plate of asparagus that had virtually none of the balsamic glaze and cheese that used to have, and a French onion soup that was not nearly hot enough or good enough for the price. Next came our steaks. These two orders of steak frites were completely tasteless. On top of this, the meat was also not tender, and was fairly overcooked for both of our orders. I want to stress that there was nothing wrong with the service. Our server did his job just as well as any other. We simply left very disappointed having paid just shy of $160 for a meal that was not worth remotely that amount of money. (Also prices online are outdated. Expect to pay more for your meal than what you think you’re going to. Another disappointment.)
We’ve been dining here for 7 years — last night was the last. The biggest shame was the food: dishes were reheated so improperly that the surfaces were boiling hot and everything underneath near frozen. My partner never got his entree so he just shared mine. The place was as empty as it was the last few times we came, though Mominette was popping a few years ago. None of the friendly familiar faces were there, and though our new server was very sweet, the bartender was insufferable. The entire time, he was shouting pretentious judgmental insults about women from the bar to whoever would listen, plugging his substack every two seconds. cringe, irritating. We were relieved to finally pay and escape the loud never-ending drone of the most insecure man.
My partner and I have been ordering takeout from this restaurant religiously every single weekend for the past three years. We’ve also eaten in a few times. And honestly? This place has a serious consistency problem — which is such a shame, because when it’s good, it’s really good. Their chicken and waffles can be amazing. The issue is that you never know what you’re going to get. We don’t have a complicated order. Literally the only request we ever make is no strawberries, due to an allergy. And yet… if they remember the strawberries, they forget the syrup. If they remember the syrup, they forget the béchamel. Sometimes the waffle is overcooked, sometimes the chicken is burned, sometimes everything is wrong at once. And then — just often enough to keep us hopeful — the order will be perfect. That’s why we kept giving them more chances. But what we received yesterday was the worst so far. The waffle was so hard it was borderline inedible. I had the same thought last week too — it honestly feels like the recipe changed, and not for the better. Our bacon came completely burned. And of course, the syrup was missing again. It’s really sad because this place has so much potential. It can be either really good or really bad, and you truly never know what you’re going to encounter. After three years… I think it’s time to move on. This is officially a breakup. Thank you for the good brunches, but unfortunately, the bad ones outnumbered them. 💔🍗🧇
Well Frances was our waitress and she is not vigilant when it comes down to see if her customers have their food. When I brought it to her attention that we are waiting over 1hr for our food she blamed the Kitchen. I loved coming here with my family. But now it will be the last time we will dine there. Felt like my service was unwanted.
The food here was just okay, I had the duck which came out really dry and tasted as if it was possibly frozen? The dish itself looked like a thanksgiving plate with everything piled on one dish. Not to mention it was $37 for this dry frozen duck, I don’t ever mind paying that for food but I mind when the food just isn’t up to par. On the other hand service was great and the bartender makes an awesome Negroni! Definitely recommend for drinks and maybe an app but not the duck!
Unfortunately, this tall waiter took forever to take our order, and when he did he was rude. The food was good but the service was horrible.
Terrible. A decade ago this place used to be a cute brunch spot. I recently went and it’s awful. Place is dirty, the bathroom was super dusty and the floor looked it hadn’t been swept or mopped in a very long time. They no longer make fresh cocktails it’s all premade mixes and ingredients. Most impt of all was the burger was so bad I had to send it back. It smelled fishy and tasted really off. I ordered it medium rare and it was all just a light grey. The burger bun was stale. Luckily I didn’t get sick because I didn’t eat much of it but it’s such a shame to see a place go down hill so much. I’ll never return.
