St. Anselm Brooklyn Reviews
My fav New York steakhouse that does not try to put on the plates anything but delicious food. The steaks are amazing. Not many places serve hanger and they perfect it here: so succulent and flavorful. Ask for the pepper relish to pair with steak: just divine. Save some rooms for desserts as well.
Great steak for a reasonable price. We had the butcher cut and Denver. A little too heavy handed on the salt, but the meat had a nice crust. We also had the tartare, mashed potatoes and spinach. All were delish. Highly recommend. We sat in the backyard which may be more preferable than the inside.
Quality local Williamsburg steakhouse with cozy yet vibrant atmosphere. Ordered similar steaks because we were curious about the different cuts of meat. The hanger steak was excellent, a little more gamy than the flatiron steak, but still very juicy with flavor and cooked perfectly. We wanted the steak to be warm so to reduce that risk we ordered both steaks medium. They were cooked perfectly medium to medium-rare with plenty of pink and were nice and warm just the way we wanted. My fiancée ordered a California Zinfandel which paired nicely. They have a nice wine selection by the glass or bottle, including some draft wines. The sides we chose were perfect--pan fried mashed potatoes and grilled shishito peppers. The mashed was a tad bit salty but had excellent texture. The space is narrow, yet cozy with nice woodwork around the bar and on the ceiling--felt like I was in a cabin. A little on the louder side in the narrow restaurant but nbd, the table behind us was having a good time so nice atmosphere overall.
The food was absolutely incredible. Everything was delicious from the steak, to the long beans, lamb, biscuits, mashed potatoes, drinks and dessert. Amazing chefs, good service and cool rustic atmosphere. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to come back. Exceptionally better than most restaurants and one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. And I’m a foodie with high standards. This place checked off every box for me. I’ve been meaning to go for a while and I’m so happy I finally scored a reservation and was able to. Extremely high quality place.
Love this steakhouse in Brooklyn. Hard to get reservations because seating is limited. Was able to get a table for 5 and the food was outstanding. 65oz Axe handle ribeye was perfection. High quality meats that are cooked to perfection each and every time. It’s a can’t miss steak diner experience.
Great cozy space with amazing steak all priced reasonably! Got the denver and the flatiron, both were delicious. Denver was the fattier option and I preferred that. Spinach gratin and the mash potato on the side also perfectly cooked with perfect flavor. Was a pleasant experience and will definitely return. Loved it.
Wow, where do I even begin? We came here based on a recommendation from a travel blogger whose previous tips never disappointed us — and this time, she absolutely nailed it. The steak was as tender as a cloud, cooked perfectly medium just as we asked. You could really taste the quality of the meat, it was so flavorful that it didn’t need anything beyond salt and pepper. We didn’t even touch the butter they placed on top because it was already so delicious. For starters, we ordered the sardines dish, and it was absolutely delicious, a real winner. The other appetizers I saw on nearby tables also looked amazing. As a side dish, we ordered the mashed potatoes, they were really tasty, with a unique seasoning that I think included garlic and parsley. It was something special and very flavorful. The service was excellent — the waitstaff were kind, friendly, and attentive. Bottom line: if you’re a fan of high-quality steaks, I highly recommend coming here. Yes, the bill wasn’t cheap, but it was worth every dollar. We had gone to another steakhouse earlier on the trip that was maybe less expensive, but we left completely disappointed — both with the food and the service. That meal felt like a waste of money.
This place has such a unique vibe, I absolutely loved it. Came here for a steak night with a couple friends and we had a phenomenal time. We started with the steak tartare, and avocado & citrus appetizers and followed it up with butcher steaks, which were phenomenal, spinach gratin, mashed potatoes, and finished with the toffee cake. The service was exceptional as well and set a relaxed, fun tone for the entire night. If you’re looking for a high quality, unstuffy steak night, you’re looking for St Anselm.
This place deserves all the praise. I love a good grill spot and everything off the grill here is pure bliss. Loved the clams and prawn, and the ax handle steak is in a category of its own. Chicken is phenomenal and reminds me that you should never rule it out. Desserts are decent but more to round off the meal. Great wine list to pair with everything too.
It’s all so good. Not one bad dish ordered. We got the bacon, clams (omg) and the Caesar as apps. We all got our own steaks for the mains and shared spinach, mashed potatoes, and fingerling potatoes as sides. Everything was delish. Standouts were the butchers steak, mashed potatoes, clams, and spinach. The cheesecake and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert were ridiculously good. The vibes are also amazing. We went in a group of 7 and it was great.
Ohhh this meal was divine from start to finish!! When we arrived around 8:30pm on a Wednesday without a reservation, it was a little busy and it looked like we were going to have to wait a while; but fortune was on our side and they were very sweet to fit us in quite promptly. I'm really grateful because if we had to wait we would have gone to another location and I would have missed out on this delicious meal! So get a reservation if you definitely want to try but don't wanna risk a wait. The decor was very detailed and warm and timeless; really made you feel transported to another time and place with its history and detail. The server was very informative and helpful with the menu, and everything we tried was delicious. The self-made seltzer is a very cute element, definitely fun for the table. The Denver cut of steak was great, I loved the saucy fingerling potatoes and shishito peppers, and an affogato to finish it off was just divine! Would absolutely come back.
Elijah's birthday dinner was at St. Anselm. Joe Carroll, the owner, was AMAZING. He took such good care of us. Everything was so delicious. He made excellent wine recommendations for dinner based on our palettes. We will definitely go back! And, Joe, let us know the next time you're in Nashville to play at the Exit Inn, and we will come and listen!
Came here once before the fire and it was excellent. Was so glad they reopened afterwards, came back and they were still so good. We got the artichoke hearts and the hanger steaks with mashed potatoes. Delicious all around. The staff is so nice and sitting at the bar getting to watch everything be prepared was fun too.
Had went for dinner today , and I was totally blown away. Didn’t expect this to be so good , steaks were cooked to perfection. Service was great especially out Waitress (Arzu) she was so down to earth. Food to the service was top notch , it has definitely made it to my top steakhouse list.
The decor looks more like a western saloon, but the steak here is top notch. Diver scallops , salad and thick cut bacon started the meal well. Roasted brocolli with breading a nice veggie side. All the meat came out juicy and tender, especially the tomahawk so beautiful. The dessert werr superb as well finishing on a sweet note.
We came here as a recommendation for a friend and it did not disappoint. The steak was delicious and the price was for what you get is really great. We also got the chicken and it was perfectly cooked. The chefs here really know what they are doing and if want to have really good steak and chicken without the frills or a steakhouse I highly recommended coming here. Perfect for a date night or girls/boys night.
COVID UPDATE: really a delightful setup with the private heated green houses. It was clean, staff was super distant, and we were cozy on a cold and windy night. The food is as stellar as always and all of our favorites were available including the lovely seasonal options. So glad you’re here guys. Original review: This is a must visit- the meat is incredible and so fairly priced. The appetizers and sides are 100% unforgettable. There is a bar next door that you should probably get familiar with because there will be a wait and likely a long one. There's a shared back patio so it's not all bad. I can see why some people perceive the hostess staff as uninviting but they're dealing with hoards of "unhappy with the wait" people. Once you get to a table, everything is super. Try the butcher steak, burrata, mashed potatoes, and sheep cheese walnut bread!
Incredible meal. Got the Butcher’s steak cooked medium rare, and I will have dreams about it when I go home to San Francisco. Can’t beat the price to value ratio here. The ginger-apple Italian soda was yummy and will be back to try the pan-fried mashed potatoes and the salty chocolate pot which the folks next to me were raving about. The staff was incredibly kind and friendly. All around perfect place.
We ordered the burrata, pan fried mash potatoes and hanger steak. All the dishes were delicious and well balanced, the stakeout was the ganger steak with pan fried mash potatoes. I love the crispy outside and the soft and fluffy potatoes in the inside. Perfect way to add texture and a genius dish.
The food was fantastic. Everything we ordered came out great including the Caesar salad. I ordered the Butcher steak (the least expensive cut on the menu) and it was amazing. The spinach and potato sides were also impressive. Definitely going back.
This restaurant was awesome. The food was off the charts good - it came with the price but it was well worth it. Arguably some of the best steak I've ever had. We came with a large group and sat towards the door. The whole restaurant has a cool, hip steakhouse vibe. The staff was helpful in helping us decide what we wanted and were awesome overall (the restaurant was a bit loud later in the evening and our waiter misheard our order. When it came out, he comped it and brought our original order - super nice of him!) We ordered quite a few dishes and everything was delicious. The salads we started with were very good. The razor clams were also delicious - the first time I've tried them and they were great. The branzino had a great char and was seasoned very well. We ordered the potato side dish which was also amazing. However, the star of the show has to be the two steaks we had. The hanger steak may have been the BEST steak I've had. The porterhouse was also equally (maybe slightly less?) delicious. This place is no joke. If you go, you have to get the steak. Will be back.
St. Anselm is a 10/10 for me and my husband. It’s our favorite restaurant in the city and every time we go we are blown away. St. Anselm is the perfect middle ground between fancy steak house and lowkey, hidden gem. The atmosphere is cute and cozy, yet it’s not intimidating like some of these $100+ Manhattan steakhouses. The staff is professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu. The food is mind blowing and fairly priced (you must order the mashed potatoes) and the dessert is incredible too. We’ve enjoyed a Pineapple Upside Down Cake and an Apple cake, both were stellar. To top it all off my husband and I had a gift card to the restaurant which we were able to use with no fuss or complaints. This restaurant is just incredible and has become a Valentine’s Day tradition for us.
Wanted to try a different steak house outside of Manhattan, we were referred to St Anselm by a friend and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere was a mixture of cozy rhythm and blues music in a local casual dining setting. We sat at the “chef table”, were we enjoyed views of the progressive all women chefs cooking up some beautiful steaks. They were quiet and calmly communicating orders which came out at reasonable time and all at once! Everything about this placed flowed so perfectly even as a blizzard was storming outside. I had the Butchers steak, NY strip steak and the chicken. But I got to say the Pan Fried mash potatoes was AMAZING!! I would easily come back just for that and a glass of wine. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the wine selection is great. Make no mistake I will be back for more! Great for a cozy night on the town or a wine date especially if your used to the easily packed steak houses of the city!
First time was great. I felt like a special guest. Lovely experience. I sat at the bar and watched them cook. The cooks had a great rapport.
Came for my wife’s bday (3rd time here) and it’s gotten better every time. Steaks were absolutely perfect and their potatoes are 10/10. Hostess and server were 15/10.
Love this place!!! All the more because they cover their steaks in BUTTER. Great starters and drinks + vibes. Tomahawk steak was way too ambitious for a party of two but we settled on the boneless black angus ribeye and it did not disappoint. The absolute star of the show. Scallops were pretty solid too. Yes i posted two pictures of the same steak. Sue me. This place is great. Ended the night with a sticky toffee pudding. Gut buster but great splurge meal once in a while.
St. Anselm lives up to its reputation as one of the superior NYC steakhouses. Super cozy atmosphere, and service is excellent. The stuffed octopus special of the day was all right (and portion was smaller than expected), and oysters were fine. The butcher's steak, however, is absolutely the star of the show: simple, delicious, and made perfectly. Spinach gratin was also fantastic and a must-have. Often times creamed spinach is incredibly heavy, but this was surprisingly light yet full of flavor. Overall, a great steak experience at a fair price point.
Absolutely my favorite restaurant I'be tried all year. Everything was delicious: The wine was amazing great glass too aesthetically pleasing, NY strip was 100/10 + the sauce that accompanied it topped it right off. The sides of the pan fried mash and spinach were great also just perfectly really theres nothing I'd want to change. Plus if you have extra space the cheesecake married the entire meal i highly recommend! Perfect for solo dining too!
I loved having dinner here. Great ambiance. What a comfortable warm and cozy space. Unpretentious, really good quality food. Love the open kitchen and the staff seems very relaxed which is good but don’t expect to have the most attentive service. Food comes out at a good pace and it was delicious. No notes. Great wine list, i had a chianti ill post below. Soooo good. Wow. Get the affogato for dessert it is delicious!!
Came here to celebrate my birthday yesterday. LOVE the butcher’s steak! We had medium rare, and it’s PERFECT! So tender, the seasoning is awesome. Bacon, spinach, and smashed potatoes are tasty! Must try their Toffee Cake with vanilla ice cream. My first time having a toffee cake that’s not that sweet. (It’s a big compliment from Asian, IYKYK😂) However, I won’t give five stars to the octopus. The taste was great, but the octopus was dry. Overall experience definitely worth five stars.
I went here with a group and was excited for this dinner! Every dish we had was good! I was afraid I won't get full but when we had the Mears, especially the Tomahawk, everyone in the table were quiet! We enjoyed every bite! As with the tomahawk, we tried to get as much meat as possible because it was that good! I'd go back here again!
Had a beautiful time with my in-laws Fri night. The chef and host were incredibly welcoming and our server Sam was an absolute rockstar. The fried mashed potatoes are Heavensent, all our veggies were great, my Denver steak was cooked to perfection, salmon was excellent. 10/10. Can’t wait to visit again!!
St. Anselm never disappoints! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Plus, the staff are all so kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. They're usually pretty busy, so even with a reservation, you may still end up needing to wait a little bit (totally worth it). They'll suggest you go to the bar next door to grab a drink (cute little bar with backyard area and great selection of beer and wine), and they'll come grab you when your table is ready. You can bring the drinks over to the restaurant, so you don't need to rush to finish your drink or anything. Honestly, it's all part of the experience. The food is amazing, drinks are great, and the dessert selection is excellent.
Didn’t have reservations but they took us in at the bar, what a great place and AMAZING food!!!! We had the burrata and their salad to start and we had two different steaks and the mashed potatoes… steaks were cooked to perfection! Also we finished with a jar dessert, I am not a dessert/sweets type person BUT omg, this sweet jar was fenomenal! I loved the place and please do check it out!!!
INCREDIBLE. Indoors is very warm and cozy. Outdoors is like a backyard family reunion. Comfort food. Everything we had was fantastic. Note: they serve beer and wine, no liquor. For 2 we had: grilled artichoke hearts, wine braised octopus, butchers steak, NY strip steak, and long beans. Both steaks medium rare. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly, but the #1 must order is the Butcher’s steak.
Wow!!! I love steakhouses, in particular the trendy ones, and I was a little apprehensive coming here. The policy of not taking reservations, and the one hour wait for a seat at the (almost empty) bar didn’t please me either. But when the steak (a tomahawk ribeye for two) came, everything else was irrelevant. It was possibly the best cooked piece of meat ever. Extra points for not serving it sliced. And a hint: the corkage fee is $25 so bring your own wine. The wine list is outrageously expensive. No not outrageously. Criminally!
Came here to celebrate my friend’s bday. The first impression with the restaurant’s ambience was very nice and cozy. Foods were great too. Ranging from main steak to various appetizers, the seasonings were pretty much spot on. Spinach Gratin was too salty for me but it combined with mashed potato was perfect taste, so wasn’t a major complaint. One note though is that I ordered my steak as medium-rare but what was delivered looked more like rare to me. I generally like my steak in rare too and the meat was very juicy, so didn’t mind at all but still got the impression that they could mis-deliver. Also first time trying rabbit meat here and its texture was very enjoyable and unique; somewhere between chicken and pork at my best expression. Although I enjoyed every other parts of the meat and would love to have it again in the future, rabit liver was impossible to enjoy. Too strong taste and smell which almost reminds me of bad cheese. Would love to revisit and try their axe-like steak next time.
Excellent food! We had dinner reservation here whilst visiting NY and I was very impressed with every aspect. Food was excellent! Steaks were the best I experienced, cooked as we wanted to perfection, tasted amazing and flavourful. We asked for a peppercorn sauce but the steak was so good on its own we didn’t even need it. Sides were a great accompaniment to steaks, mash and green beans and salad. Impressive place and would definitely go back if we are back in NY. Only wish I took pictures of food! But we ate so quick I forgot Special thanks for staff too, they were attentive our children, offered great advice when ordered and generally made our experience all the better! Thank you
Service was great. Love that server gave my gf a taste of wine she ordered without asking. She ended up wanting something different and the server was KNOWLEDGABLE and able to find something better suited. Food was absolutely amazing and I love that I could find it at a place without the stuffy white table cloth pretenses. Will be back!
Visited St. Anselm in Williamsburg for my birthday dinner, and it was phenomenal! St. Anselm in Williamsburg is a standout among steakhouses. From the moment you step inside, the cozy ambiance, with its exposed brick walls and open kitchen, sets the tone for an exceptional meal We arrived around 7:30 pm, and the experience was perfect from start to finish. The 60oz steak was cooked to medium perfection, and every appetizer was delicious. Each side was outstanding , from the creamy spinach to the pan-fried mashed potatoes, they were a delight. The sticky toffee pudding was the perfect ending to the meal . (Gotta get it a-La-mode of course! ) The atmosphere was cozy, and the service was excellent. For a group of six, the bill was quite reasonable at about $120 per person. Definitely one of the best meals of 2024! Can’t wait to go back.
I have been coming here for special occasions for 5 years. Even though it’s a steak house, every single dish will delight you. DO NOT SKIP THE BACON as an app - the blue iceberg salad also comes with a piece. The bobo chicken is dare I say the best chicken I’ve had in my life. How could you make mashed potatoes any better? Make them crispy. It is very worth it, I’m so happy they reopened.
I Googled great steak places near me and it delivered! Our server, Jeremy, was on it. The food was fabulous. My daughter wanted a burger, but they don't serve burgers. Instead, she ordered the King Salmon and pan-fried mashed potatoes. She said it was the best Salmon she had tasted and she couldn't stop eating the potatoes. I ordered the Wedge and Blue salad, and it comes with a huge hunk of bacon as well as the bacon, blue cheese vinaigrette. For my meal I ordered the Butcher's Steak. It's something they're known for, and now I know why! My daughter had several bites of mine and said it was delicious as well and especially enjoyed the course salt along with the garlic butter. I'd go back the next time I'm in the neighborhood.
We had this jerk chicken sausage that wasnt on the menu. They had it on rare occasion. It was amazing. Just a tiny bit of spice with some sweet peppers/onions. For entree I had lamb chop. I had 23oz because it goes by weight of lamb. Side orders I had was spinach and mash potato (idk exact name of this mash). I have to admit those mash potato i had were the best in my life. Better than my mother mash potatoes and I hate admit that. It was to point i wanted lick the bowl of how good it was 😂🫣i would definitely go back here and I recommend it. The whine here i didnt really like it. I usually like sweet whine and none of their whine was sweet so kept it simple with water.
This place was amazing, the rustic decor and dusky lighting was the perfect setting for an intimate birthday dinner with my sister and brother in law. We had the grilled halloumi & asparagus (no pics before we demolished it), the clams, long beans, and the pan fried mashed potatoes. The entire table agreed that the potatoes were a clear winner and if you only get one side I highly recommend those. The long beans were also seasoned well and paired nicely with our steaks as some type of green. Our meat was cooked perfectly to order and server was very knowledgeable and attentive. The wine is served in an Erlenmeyer flask which as a science nerd, I really appreciated 🤓 I can’t wait to come back! VERY CELIAC FRIENDLY
I would say this is a hipster steakhouse. Which isn’t a bad thing. The vibe is cozy. I didn’t enjoy the table we sat in being that it’s right by the entrance. You feel the cold air whenever the door is opened. Plus having people stand and wait right behind you can get annoying real quick. The food was amazing though. The sourdough bread was good but wished it came out warm. NY strip was delicious. The pan fried mashed potatoes were a stand out! The portions are decent. Usually there’s always left overs to take home when visiting a steakhouse. This wasn’t the case. Everyone ate their plate clean! I’d visit again.
This dinner exceeded expectations for my 50th birthday celebration! Service was great. We had grilled artichoke appetizer, flatiron and denver steaks, spinach au gratin and pan fried mashed potatoes for sides, and the almond cake for dessert. Everything was delicious, and the steaks were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Great prices. We ate at multiple highly ranked restaurants on this trip, including a Michelin starred restaurant, and this was our favorite dinner by far.
this was so much better than i was expecting. the denver cut was outta this world and the spinach gratin was bonkers good, maybe the best spinach dish i’ve ever had. the staff was really nice and did a great job of recommending temperatures for each cut and directing us away from an insanely over priced steak. i will say the food took forever, but it was worth the wait.
We luckily got a table there after Peter Luger couldn’t accommodate our party. It didn’t disappoint, the meat was incredible, the atmosphere and service too. We drove from Connecticut and will do that again. Strong sense of place as well, a true Brooklyn steakhouse experience. Five stars!
This place was a nice change from your typical steakhouse - cozy and intimate with a distinct Brooklyn vibe. Steaks were great - had the strip steak and a veal chop on special both perfectly cooked and served with nice sauces. The pan fried mashed potatoes were also excellent. A nice evening out.
I had an absolute blast, if you are a steak lover you must come to this restaurant. Our servers name was August and Aquil, they did a fenomenal job at letting me know top items, they were very attentive and kind. The staff made me feel at home. Prices are decent, food is outstanding, make sure you book your reservations in advanced to not have a wait time. Here are some pictures of my food, enjoy. (Don’t remember names, therefore ask your nearest server lol)
St. Anselm is one of my restaurant lists I have to go. I didn't have a chance to come here yet because the place always packed, either long waiting line or reservation ahead. The menu has all my husband and I want. We both have different craving of food, so he loves steak, but I love seafood, so this restaurant has everything. During long weekend I decided to hop up this place. We got a parking right in front of the place which is impossible for regular time. Walking in without line and getting seat right away, Great!. When NYC is empty, we are king! we have........... - Lobster Tail for start and it was perfectly cooked. - Beef Tartare: good amount if you are not hungry and only want to hang out and enjoy drinks - Butcher's steak: only steak and need to order side dish if you want some vegetables. But steak itself taste super delicious. Even my husband order medium but they still give him medium rare but the meat is very soft and juicy, so he is ok with that. - Pot ce Creme is good but...... - Basque Cheesecake is better! I only eat half and the rest of it my hubby took it and I have to tell him that is my dessert so he has to stop taking my food. Service is good and very friendly. We definitely will come back to try more menu. I'm not sure we will have the same excellent experience when the place going to regular busy service time but because of their delicious food. I hope my husband will still enjoy this place and coming back often.
Brick-walled institution in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn serving up spectacular steak and seafood. Incredible old world ambience and can’t say enough of their impeccable service. Overall just an incredible spot to dine in. St. Anselm is most famously known for their signature Angus Butcher’s Steak so if it’s your first visit, this is the absolute must on the menu.
Another favorite, if not the favorite. I remember when it opened and my friends and I would wait hours just to get it. \n\nYou simply must order the hanger steak period end of story. I didn't even …

Hanger steak is really good, if not a bit small. Lobster was also very good. Went alone for my birthday on a travel day through the city and was satisfied.

My FAVORITE steakhouse. Such a cozy candle lit gem - great ambience, service & food quality is top. Have a seat at the bar & watch the chefs create!
Steaks were cooked quickly and well. I think the butchers steak and creamed spinach were the best items on the menu.

Really good place for casual night out. Good choices on menu but all 6 of opted for steak - it was fantastic with some really good sides. Only 2 could manage dessert. Good atmosphere.
Dinner for two at the chefs bench. Very busy inside and so would recommend booking in advanced. Service for drinks was a little slow at the start but apart from that absolutely fine. Was really fu…
Fantastic food and wine. I dined at St Anselm alone at the chefs counter and it was fabulous. A truly great experience with fantastic service, food and wine. Highly recommended
Came for my son’s 21st, he loves trying new low key places. This steak house in Williamsburg is giving casual fine dining with an open kitchen concept, and a wrap around chef counter. It’s all wood decor almost like a sorority cabin (wasn’t sure of the theme). The staff was pretty attentive, every staff member is your server but not too helpful in recommendations. Appetizers were the sourdough bread with salted butter which was fresh and delicious (we had to ask To warm it up but yes it’s an app and yes it’s $16) & clams (which also had sour dough bread on it, which I feel the waiter should’ve mentioned. Drinks consist of beer and wine and spritzers. My son ordered the steak (prime rib) that came out to perfection and I wasn’t took hungry I just ordered the giant prawn and we shared the a la cart sides (long long string beans, spinach and pan fried mashed potatoes) all very tasty and unique. Dessert selection was limited so we stuck with the vanilla ice cream and espresso.
I just went this past weekend and I really enjoyed everything we ate. The steaks were seasoned and juicy and went great with Au poivre sauce. We got the Denver and butcher, Denver is more fatty but the flavor of each are not inferior and if you don’t need extra fat butcher is perfect. We got this huge Bo Bo chicken that was so juicy and well seasoned and felt like such a bargain for 45 dollars. The pan fried mash was delicious and bacon was also good but not a must order. The prawn was really great with the butter. The lack of drink options does suck but I enjoyed my Italian soda. The sticky pudding a la mode was so delicious and please keep room for it. I don’t like how my reservation for counter didn’t indicate that, it just said indoors. Service was on the slower side and I know it’s a small restaurant but they many need a couple more servers
Not overly impressed. Steak was fine, but it was barely lukewarm. Took almost 50 minutes for the food to come out, and it was at open with not many people there. Got the biscuit and gravy and egg to go along with my Denver steak. I’m wondering if my steak was sitting there for who knows how long waiting on a biscuit. Cooking is one thing, but timing and temperature of the food matters. At this point I can only imagine what a warm version of my steak would have tasted like.
Beautifully warm atmosphere, we walked in on a Monday night in Nov and we found seats at the bar. It was quite busy especially for a Monday night. The prawns and clamshells were the right temperature paired with butter but it needed a little more favor. The hanger steak and spinach gratin were beyond delicious, cooked to the right level of crisp and scrumptious.
This rustic, cozy restaurant presents a good atmosphere for a date night. The menu was simple with different cuts of meat and some seafood options. The butchers steak (price $34) was perfect medium rare and decently flavorful on its own but the portion size was underwhelming for me. The king Salmon steak tasted good and the portion size was surprisingly large (a good thing in my opinion for the price $42). The sides were decent and the portion size is plenty for 1-2. Overall the service was decent, food took a little long to come out but it was worth the wait. Parking is limited to the street, I would recommend taking an Uber/Lyft or public transportation here. Don't expect to get a table walking in due to the limited seating.
Had a great meal here last night. Spot is a small place with a bar of beer and wine only. Service was spot on. Had to sit at the bar bcuz I didn't book reservations, which wasn't the most comfortable. The food was worth the price. I'll definitely be back. Didn't like the cream spinach that someone suggested but that swordfish and lamb were TOP notch.
We visited here 3 weeks ago during the family trip to NYC Based on the YouTuber recommendation, “Peter Luger , priced and overrated” (we went to Peter Luger 4 times in previous visits to New York City then we tried some else The main course : Ax Handle Rib Eye, it is very good but can’t compare with Peter Luger because it is different “product” Bacon - it is very delicious again this is very different from Peter Luger because it is very different style Pork Chop - very average which we are disappointed Service is fine
This place is great and have been coming here a long time. My only issue on the most recent visit was the "Bread and Butter." St Anselm charges *$16* for bread and butter and we were hoping for something that lives up to that. What we got was tough, cold bread with butter and radishes. It was ok but major let down relative to all the other dishes (which were great). Even if this was free, it still would have been a let down. Would cut this one.
The side dishes are good except a little bit salty but can tolerate. However, the lamb chop with large bones sold by ounce may not fair. The lamb chop costs us around 80 bucks. We haven’t finished our meal but the waiter wanted to clean our table, very rush us to leave. Even when I said I would like to order the dessert. 🍮😂
Been wanting to try this place for a while! Sat at the chefs table aka bar seats — if you’re two people highly recommend this as watching the open kitchen is quite cool. It’s a pretty small space overall so it’s very homey and cozy. Felt like a modern spin on a steakhouse…mismatched plates and neat spins on dishes. The pan fried mashed potatoes are a must! Flatbread too. Steaks were good but ordered medium rare and found they were quite red/cold. Much closer to rare. Overall a great spot and would definitely go back!
The food here is really incredible. From the artichoke hearts to the perfectly cooked and seasoned butcher's steak, St. Anselm presents a well-crafted range of options which leaves you feeling the comfort of a home-cooked meal combined with the pure excellence of the food itself. The service could benefit from a bit more attention to detail, as this was the only drawback from what was otherwise a flawless night.
St Anselm is the place to go if you want a perfectly cooked not-overpriced steak in Williamsburg. The restaurant in itself is cozy with accents of wood and antiques that give a nice atmosphere, which is touched with beautiful vintage flatware. The menu is simple, yet provides you with multiple choices. The steak is season so well it doesn’t need anything else. Great balance between pepper, oil, salt and the enhance flavor of a juicy steak. We order two different cuts with surprisingly different flavors, one with shaved radishes. Don’t forget to order appetizers, all good selections. We got the sardines to compensate with the red meat overload. Delicious, the pickled lotus flower is a great add on. The steak comes on it’s own, recommend the traditional spinach and the potatoes with ailioli. Cherry on top a great beer and wine selection and incredible toffee cake for dessert (don’t forget to add ice cream, cuz YES the cake comes warm)
Delicious food and superb service! Everything we ordered was amazing - we got the kale salads, clams, halloumi /asparagus to start, followed by the lamb saddle and butcher hanger steak for mains! Also for sides got creamed spinach, potato gratin and long beans. For dessert we got the chocolate cup. Everything was so good! Highly recommend
First and foremost, the service here was excellent; I would give that 5🌟 The wood interior gives this restaurant a cozy warm vibe. Regular table seating, as well as bar seating. I thought the Brussels and Shrimp appetizers were a touch heavy on the salt. The winter radish was a nice starter because it comes with bread and the herb butter. The pan fried potatoes are truly a must to go along with the butchers steak, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Unfortunately they were sold out of the rum toffee pudding because we dined there pretty late, but said next time we should mention that we want it ahead of time to make sure they can save us one.
The food is great, the staff is awesome and the price is reasonable. I forgot to take a picture of the NY strip steak when it got to me, cause as soon as I took a bit of it, I can't stop eating it. The doneness of the steak is on point! You can actually see the chef grilling the steak. I would definitely recommend and come back to this place.

St Anselm is often hyped on social media for its affordable steaks, but it is important to set expectations. This is not a traditional steakhouse. I ordered the butcher steak at $34 with a side of fingerling potatoes for $15. The steak was fine, but nothing memorable. Given the cut and the price point, there was not much depth of flavor on its own, and I ended up ordering the au poivre sauce to elevate it. That helped, but it still did not stand out. The fingerling potatoes were decent, though a bit overpriced for what they were. One small highlight for me was that they serve Mexican bottled Coke. I do not usually go for sugary drinks, but it was a nice touch and enjoyable here. The space itself is charming. It has a rustic, barnhouse vibe that feels laid back and unpretentious, which I really liked. The staff were also excellent. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and accommodating, which made the experience pleasant overall. I went on a Sunday around noon and the place was packed, so reservations are definitely recommended. I was seated at the bar by the grill and prep station, which was actually a great spot if you enjoy watching the kitchen in action. Would I go back? Probably. But not for the steaks. I would return more for the atmosphere, the service, and to try other items on the menu.
St. Anselm is an affordable steak house in Brooklyn. The skirt steak was good--well cooked, juicy, and flavorful. Solid spot for a satisfying steak without breaking the bank.

We've been before and it was fabulous. But today we ordered 2 50 oz steaks medium and they made it medium rare, and it wasn't hot enough that they put a huge piece of butter on top and it didn't melt. That's never happened before. Also the beer is not cold enough, It's very sad because we'd really liked this restaurant and highly recommended it, but this time we were very disappointed.
I’ve been living in Brooklyn for the last 16 years and I’ve been in this restaurant many times because the food is DELICIOUS! I love eating at the bar with my girlfriend. It’s always a great experience unless the waiter / bartender is giving you an attitude. I went there at 5:30pm super excited on a Saturday. Got a sit at the bar with my girlfriend for a delicious hanger steak only to be waited poorly by a guy behind the bar who clearly not wanted to be behind the bar neither giving a smile. Never seen him before. We ordered a $15 glass of wine that was ridiculously underpoored - i worked in the industry, i know what a nonsense glass of wine is. I made a comment and he poored a bit more, offended and clueless. Then We ordered another glass of wine. My girlfriend had not even finished her main dish that the dessert menu was put in front of me. $200 for a really good dinner but what a disappointment about the service. We still left 20% but for the kitchen only.
I had dinner last night with two friends. First of all, the food was very very salty (NY prime steak, chicken). Also they use a lot of butter on steakes unecessarily. Eating there left me a bad taste. They changed prices with the quality of food decreasing. Now, they charge $16 for a piece of bread. Overall the quality of food is not where it used a be a few years ago.
$130 for the special boneless ribeye 30 oz, at least 6 oz of fat- Two big fat pieces!!!! I was so shocked I asked the server if its normal to have this much of fat in ribeye which he said yes. I did not feel that it was fair given that the steak alone was $130. If I had known, I wouldve just ordered the steak on the menu that was not as expensive. Bacon was solid, pan fried potatoes as well. Will not return.
Had reservations for a celebrating a birthday on this rainy evening. I not too busy there were maybe 6-8 customers dining on this day. I noticed there was a bit of hesitation by the server each time he approached our table which I thought was a bit strange but I didn’t think anything of it at first. We sat there for a while before someone came to take our order. Unfortunately my first thoughts when strange social interactions/ behavior occur is to attempt to understand why and to observe if the behavior consistent amongst all guest dining at the establishment. But unfortunately that was not the case. It appeared to seem if our server purposely was attempting to avoid us and even forgetting our drinks after placing our 30 mins prior. As we were eating our appetizers he mentioned “ oh you guys didn’t get your drinks, what was it again”? Which was strangled annoying

I would like to start by saying I would have given this restaurant 5stars for food and service ….steaks are brilliant quality and better than most old school steak houses in nyc . Salads and sides …
The food was amazing, and I had been looking forward to returning to this restaurant after several years away. We had a 6:15PM reservation, and everything started off wonderfully—our server was fantastic, the ambiance was lovely, and each dish was excellent. However, the experience was dampened at the very end of the night. As we were wrapping up our meal and still mid-conversation, a different server (not ours), a woman with dark brown shoulder-length hair in a white dress, abruptly interrupted us with a noticeably unfriendly demeanor. She told us we needed to leave so they could seat the next party—this happened almost immediately after we paid. We quietly left without causing a scene, but it definitely left a sour taste in our mouths and took away from what had otherwise been a great evening. Just a reminder of how much customer service can affect the overall experience.
