My favorite Mexican food. I always come back here immediately after getting home from any trip. Some of my favorite things here are: • The chicken quesadilla - it sounds simple, but their chicken is amazing and the salsa is even more amazing. • California burrito - obviously a staple in any San Diego Mexican food spot. • Chicken soup - I get this soup for my mom whenever she gets sick and it’s one of her favorites! They have my favorite salsa ever. It’s just spicy enough to keep things interesting, but it still tastes really good. The staff here is also super friendly and it’s quick and easy to get your food and park as well. 10/10!

This our go-to Mexican restaurant. They're famous for their chicken tortilla soup but offer all the standard Mexican dishes: tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. My favorite is the Chili Verde Burrito. My only complaint is the phone system. It's not uncommon to get a busy signal when calling in an order. You often have to call back a couple times before it rings through.

Hands down best Mexican chicken soup in north county San Diego. They also have the best carne asada. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.

One of the best California Burritos I have had! I have tried many places in downtown Encinitas, Carlsbad and Mira Mesa but I really enjoyed this one! I substituted the potatoes for fries and added guac on mine. The meat was seasoned well and did not have any pieces of fat the two times I tried it. The second time I tried it, I got it in the morning with an egg added and was great. The size is not as big as some of the other burritos I've had but I finished the whole thing feeling satisfied and not overly stuffed. I have also tried their chips and salsa, both are great, however, the salsa is way too spicy for me.

Been going here for years. Never overly fried, chicken is moist and lean. I always get the Chicken and rice burrito with avo or guac

Ive been coming to Jorges for well over a decade now. This Rustic style mexican food makes me feel at home. I love this place, its salsas, all its food options, and the respectful and hardworking staff!

BEST AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD ! We first came here for lunch 14 years ago when my wife wanted me to try some great Mexican food barely a few days after we flew to California from Australia. I chose a Chimichanga because I liked the name.....I really didn't know it was a fried Burrito. But OMG was it huge and it tasted awesome. So we have had a long term relationship with this Jorge's Mexicatessen. We had a few errands to run in Encinitas today so I suggested to my wife we grab some lunch here....my wife was thinking the same thing ! After parking our wheels in the carpark we ambled into the eatery. On the way in we noticed they had installed a countertop outside for diners...no dine-in around San Diego at this time. My wife ordered a Beef Chimichanga ( $9.50 ) for me of course, 2 x Carnitas soft Tacos ( $2 each ) for herself and a large serve of their famous Spicy Chicken Soup ( about $9 ) to take home with us. After paying we sat at the countertop outside waiting for our ready number to be called out..we had to hog it as there was nowhere else to sit. Luis the cashier even came out and cleaned the countertop for us. BINGO...I went into pick up our lunch order. My wife opened up her take our box and started on her Carnitas Soft Tacos....and loved them as always. I opened up my take out box and EL YUMMO there it was...the biggest meanest yummiest Beef Chimichanga on planet Earth. I ate the lot.......darn it was good ! Terrific service, terrific food every time !

I've been coming here for almost 20 years and it is by far my favorite spot. The soup is amazing and the burritos are great. California burritos have potato instead of fries and it's so much better that way. Always cooked perfectly.

So good!! We have been going there for 20 years. I used to go there before I could see over the counter! Can't go wrong with the soup or even just a bean and cheese. My mom loves the cabbage salad and chicken tacos!

Hand's down the BEST Mexican Chicken soup in San Diego! It NEVER disappoints and always satisfies. I heard their other dishes are great too but they are famous for their Mexican soup! BONUS - If you are coming down with a cold, flu, etc. - run, don't walk, and buy some of their soup for miracle healing! It is amazing!

This place has solid Mexican food at a great price with excellent customer service. On my first visit, I ordered a bean and cheese burrito with chicken and it was delicious. The 2nd visit brought 2 bean and cheese burritos and they were perfectly made. The flour tortilla was soft and the burrito had lots of cheese to compliment the beans. Can't wait to go back.

Loved the food. Can't get more authentic than this. The chicken mole tacos had the complex flavors I was expecting, the fish (fried) in the fish tacos was fresh and clean flavors. Good size portions, we ordered too much food! Very friendly people. No frills but worth a visit.

I had a California burrito and it was awesome. The potatoes in there were just perfect. Definitely coming again.

I believe this to be one of the best if not the best Mexican restaurants in Carlsbad. All the food is excellent but the chicken soup is out of this world. Anybody who likes chicken soup has got to stop by and give this a try!

The food is SO delicious. It is always so busy but they still make time for To-Go Orders. The people there are so nice and constantly putting out great food. The salsa alone is so freaking amazing! They have daily specials and great prices. This is real, authentic, Mexican Food. I work in Encinitas but live Escondido, and yes, I do make the drive now and then JUST for Jorge's.

Food is cooked authentic Mexican family style. Such great flavors, and very fresh food. Mexico City chicken soup is awesome. Full of sauteed veges, tender rice and big chunks of white meat chicken. So good!

I come here for the fried chicken flautas! Best fried taco in San Diego. It might be a little more expensive, but I like that they include all of the fixings. I don’t have to ask for extra guacamole, sour cream, or cheese. I also highly recommend their bean and cheese burrito with a side of their salsa. It is the ultimate comfort food. The salsa is not very spicy and has a little bit of a vinegar taste to it, but it is still extremely delicious. I think mostly white people with low spice tolerance are shopping here because they don’t have any hot sauces out on the counters. I’ve gone to a bunch of Mexican places all over San Diego and I’ve never found a place that does flautas or chimichangas like this. This place has seating, but it’s mostly designed for takeout. Not much to look at in this restaurant. They could improve on the decor but their main focus is creating delicious food and they’ve definitely succeeded there I will still sit and eat my food here, though the people are friendly and accommodating. Would like them to add more intense spicy hot sauce but might not have a market for it in Encinitas

Hands down the best place to get a quick bite of Mexican food in the area. I got the two tacos and one enchilada meal and it was excellent! Flavorful and made to order so it was piping hot. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. Will definitely come back here when in the area. What a great find!

A little disappointed with the huevos rancheros. The mole was good but needed avocado 🥑 for a topping. The beans were good. The rice was a little old. The staff was great . The service was good. The horchata had 3 different kinds which were hibiscus 🌺, Mango and regular. The Mango was super good. The shrimp 🍤 burrito 🌯 needs more shrimp but other than that, good flavors.

The spicy soup & breakfast burritos are great! The breakfast burrito has the right amount of potatoes, & a thick tortilla, I get it with bacon & without salsa. The quesadillas are really good too. Veggie burritos and bean/cheese are just okay. Their tortillas are some of the best I've had (I always get extra when I get the soup, as the large soup only comes with two & I can eat six)!

C

The staff was friendly and the portion sizes were good and decently priced, but unfortunately the food wasn't that great. I had a California burrito and the wife had a Chicken n Bean burrito. The seasoning wasn't great and the salsa they had didn't really add to the flavor. I was expecting the Chicken n Bean to be bland (how the wife likes it) but it was more bland than expected. It's as if they didn't use any seasoning at all. I typically love supporting small, family-owned businesses but unfortunately the best I can do is 4 stars for this one. There were 2-3 other Mexican food places in close proximity, so I'm hoping this one steps up their game.

I have been coming here for more than 10 years. Food is well prepared and in good portions. Custumer-oriented and they have lots of long time customers. The chicken soup is the best..

I ordered the California burrito. A must buy every time I visit Cali! I cut it in half to show the inside. (Might have taken a bite) This burrito was very tasteful and well cooked. The cheese they use is really really good! Topped it off with their hot salsa! Gave it a great kick. I would recommend this place and I will be coming back again!

Hi, there is a good reason this restaurant expanding to more location; it’s simply because they are good at all aspect of this business. I’ve been costumer to this restaurant for many many years and never, not once had a bad meal. Their salsa is my favorite salsa of all other I’ve tried and their enchiladas sauce is very rich and earthy , it’s as good as Javier’s fine Mexican restaurant in La Jolla . I usually order crispy carne asada burrito and a beef enchilada more than few times a month. Jorge’s is definitely worth trying . They do a lots of take out, potion is good and price is reasonable. Happy dinning

I ordered the combination plate #1 (3 tacos, rice & beans) on a Tuesday at dinner time (6:45 or so). I chose chicken for my tacos. Was really looking forward to it based on the 5 star reviews. Counter staff was personable, accurate, and efficient. I waited about 12 minutes for my food, which wasn't bad. There was a steady stream of customers ordering to go, picking up orders, waiting on orders to eat in the restaurant, etc. It felt like a well-loved neighborhood joint, the kind of place people go back to time and again. There was a small unobtrusive TV in an upper corner set at a low volume, which I appreciated. * Tacos were a decent size, well filled. Tortillas were delicious and held together well. Onion-cilantro garnish was surprisingly delicious (I'm usually a cilantro-avoider). Too bad the chicken itself was tasteless and dry and a huge disappointment. * Salsa was tasty but too spicy for me. I added some to the tacos to add flavor. * Refried beans were bland. * Rice was absolutely delicious, my favorite part of the meal. I hardly ever eat rice so it was a treat and I'm glad it had so much flavor. I would give this place a try one more time but avoid chicken tacos. Maybe the beef is better?

I had been there several years ago on a visit to CA from out of state and wanted to go back to get a chile verde burrito. Very disappointed. There was plenty of excellent pork but very little chile verde and hence the burrito was pretty tasteless. I had to put red hot sauce on a green burrito to give it any flavor. Also - just so you know the menu shown on Google is WAY out of date. I thought I was getting an $8.95 burrito....silly me - it was $15. One burrito, a chicken taco salad, 2 drinks was $37. For a little place like this it is outrageous. I could have gone to a sit down restaurant for that much.

Chicken soup is very popular here. It is quite good with lots of chicken meat and avocado. 4 stars for the chicken soup. Not sure if it’s organic. I don’t know anything about what else they make. This is definitely a hole in the wall but no complaints about atmosphere from me even though it is pretty darn funky with used cardboard boxes laying around. Utilize the cardboard boxes for the customers!!! Zero stars for the fact that they dish out lots of PLASTIC bags for every single order of chicken soup. I don’t need a plastic bag. NO BODY NEEDS A PLASTIC BAG! Just ask. How about a box? I noticed they throw away a lot of cardboard boxes every day.! 5 stars for the fact that they ask if you need plastic utensils or not. That is commendable. ...Just stop using so many plastic bags for god sake also why Styrofoam containers? Why not recyclable plastic? Other restaurants use recyclable plastic for soup. Or you could even do cardboard which would keep the soup warmer like they use at health food stores. They never answer the phone which is understandable. But if you do answer the phone don’t put me on hold for 10 minutes.

There is no restroom, and nowhere to wash your hands! We ordered three tacos, and they were the least flavorful we have ever had, very dry, some not salty at all, some overly salty... Of all the Mexican restaurants in the area, it has the best rating, but I cannot recommend it!

When I see the name, I’m thinking they have a new spin on some dishes or some fusion foods. I was wrong. Then I saw they have salsa for sale. I thought it must be good for them to sell it in 8oz and 12oz containers. I was wrong. Cheated on my diet and came here, wrong again. If you’re gonna cheat on your diet, don’t do it here. $17 for my breakfast burrito and salsa🫤

Just spent $20 on 1 burrito. When i got the burrito it had very little sour cream, i asked politely for more sour cream and 1 was told it would cost more $$$. I proceeded to eat my dry overpriced burrito outside because they have no indoor seating. This place sucks.

Have you tried the whole raw onion burrito? Its called the shrimp burrito on the menu. Don’t tell me we have inflation, there is no excuse to this. A pack of jumbo shrimp at costco is $20 and I just paid $12 for a raw onion wrapped in a tortilla sprinkled with a few small shrimp. Perfect example of a great place gone bad.

had been going here for over 25 years. stopped awhile back as food had dropped in quality. Went back last night around 8pm as everyone wanted the soup in my family. Ordered 3 carne asada burritos, rolled tacos and our favorite soup. When we got home, the burritos were cold like the meat had been sitting out. The meat had turned. Late last night 2 of us who ate some of the burritos got very sick. very disappointed for spending $60.

This was my favorite soup spot growing up. They dramatically reduced the soup size, served it to me luke warm and doubled the price. Not sure if this is new ownership or just management but I would no longer give them my business, they don’t care about the product anymore, just another money grab…
