It’s a little drive to get there but excellent service and great food. The owner is a character in a good way. T loved chatting with him.

Had a great dinner at Hill Top Cafe! The place is casual, eclectic, and focused on serving truly delicious food. Our experience was a refreshing break from the Main Street dining scene. Everything tasted fresh and made with quality ingredients. The chicken-fried steak was tender and genuinely special. My husband had the red beans and rice with shrimp and absolutely loved it. The veggies were crisp and yummy. We spent the whole dinner raving about how they take classic dishes and make them uniquely their own. We were stuffed but couldn’t leave without trying dessert. As expected, the cobbler was delish! The staff was friendly and provided quality service. We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. Highly recommend

Mark (spelt M A R K) took great care of us and definitely seemed to know what he was doing. He furnished us with a couple of delicious pizzas and insisted on pouring me a glass of wine before I took off down the hill with the bottle. Two cool dogs. Great outside seating. Dog friendly.

We really enjoyed our meal here and also got some olive oil. The shrimp muting was great. The Greek salad fantastic, the red beans and rice were good but could use some spicy and the catfish was nicely fried

We went to see Bonnie Bishop and Linda Gail Lewis. Both fabulous shows! The food was excellent and the fried deviled eggs are to die for. It’s a nice drive, great music and excellent food! As Texas as Texas gets!

Laid back spot to grab a drink and some good food. Food was flavorful. The burger tasted good but was a bit dense for my taste. I did not care for the truffle fries. The fried steak and gravy was very good

Unbelievably good food. Well worth the trip outside of Fredericksburg to stop by. Ordered the Mahi Mahi and it was divine. Cannot recommend enough. Friends had the chicken fried steak and shrimp pasta. Both of which were excellent as well.

Iconic Texas hole-in-the-wall honky tonk and cafe located at an old gas stop at the top of a hill on the a country road 11 miles west of Fredericksburg. We had Sunday Gospel brunch today. Loved the music, marveled at the huge collection of Texas music memorabilia and ate some great fried catfish that melted in our mouths. Escargot and gumbo started our meal. The menu is grounded in Cajun staples and the service was outstanding even though they are still short handed. Check their summer schedule so you aren’t disappointed and best to call for a reservation if you want to be there for the music. They are typically open for lunch and dinner at least Thursday through Sunday but close midday. They’ve also got two dining rooms, a patio and a big following. We drive over from Austin and it is well worth the drive. There are very few places that bring back the memories like this one. Don’t miss it.

Such a great little find off 87 right before you get into Fredericksburg! I had the crab cake benedict and a bloody mary both were delicious. We went on a Sunday morning and there was already a line before they opened, but the service was great.

We went on our Honeymoon and let me just say - the best hole in the wall place!!! We got to have crab eggs Benedict that literally melted, the Greek cheese appetizer that I am still craving, and the dessert was heavenly! The day we were there - the owner, Johnny (who was the original band member of Asleep of the Wheel)had a concert! That was such an amazing treat!!! If you are near, please do yourself a favor and stop in. The food is delish!!

While in Fredericksburg we met a sweet gentlemen who recommended the hill top Cafe for breakfast. Let me say that we were not disappointed during our visit. The staff was ever so sweet. Mr. Nickles played live music on Sunday morning that was wonderful. It is about 10 miles outside of town but well worth the drive. We had a little of everything fried okra, eggs Benedict, Chicken fried chicken, a pancake, a mimosa and a bloody mary. The food was delicious. I will be ABSOLUTELY be back next time I'm in the area.

Had a special Valentine's dinner at Hill Top Cafe and it didn't disappoint. Food was great. Atmosphere was fun and quirky. Our waitress Tracy was delightful and put the cherry on top of our evening. Will be back next time in the Hill Country.

Cajun, deep south, and greek food at one place. What could be better? They were extremely busy with Sunday gospel brunch. ($10 cover/person for the music show) They have plenty of seating though. We had the saganaki cheese, greek style shrimp, greek okra, gumbo, washed down with a spicy bloody Mary. Delicious! Too many awesome things on the menu to try on our first trip. I am already looking forward to my next chance to go there again!

Mixed thoughts. They were understaffed but worked hard. The food was good but not great. It was a good ways out of town but mostly full. Probably not on my must do list and need to try more places to know if I would recommend over others.

Attended the 20 annual Big Band Bash, and it was over the top amazing on Saturday night. Could not have been more impressed with the legendary lineup in such an intimate and eclectic atmosphere. For a moment I could have believed that I was inserted into a classic scene from an 80's blues flick. The performances were great, and everyone was down to earth and allowed photo ops. I had a couple of concerns with the food, it was on par with the type of middle of nowhere bar that you'd expect, and with them having a very large crowd, I'm sure that had an effect on the kitchen and staff, and I believe that otherwise their food is probably much better on a normal day.

A good little place with great taste. Food was way overpriced for Red Beans and Rice with 2 shrimp and 2 very small pieces of sausage for $27. Server wasn't honest to other server about substitutions and teied to charge when was told we could also left with out attending to our table. Music was good.

Update! Dec. 2023. Oh, MY, so disappointed.. This was a long planned Stop on our Christmas trip to Fredericksburg. And, things did not go well. From the initial contact with the surly hostess it did not get better. We had a choice of which side of the restaurant to sit on, the side with live music had a $10 cover charge. Never had that before. So we sat in the storeroom next to the liquor boxes. Unfortunately, the hostess turned out to be our waitress. She then proceeded to ruin our entire meal by telling us what a bad day she was having because her cat was run over in front of the restaurant. OH, MY. I'm terribly sorry, but is that why you're not actually waiting on us? (no, I did not say that) We had to ask for everything and she was not pleasant. (again, while I can sympathize, I am not your friend, I'm just a customer trying to enjoy my Christmas meal, and not think sad things). So, going forward, I ordered eggs benedict with crab cakes on top ($20, pictured). While they were great, I was left hungry as there were no sides, none. Fruit, a tomato, something would have been nice. My husbands open faced sandwich came with no sides ($17), he asked, she said it doesn't come with any and she didn't even offer any. I ordered coffee and got some bottom of the pot coffee with milk, not cream. (had to ask for more bad coffee, fixings, everything) . When we paid and left, hubs said, don't we generally get dessert? I thought they used to have great desserts. Again, no ask, so who knows? We have stopped here for years. We won't be back. Prices have skyrocketed and if we're getting less but paying more, we'll go into Fredericksburg to eat. This used to be our all time favorite place to go eat. No more. sigh. Like losing an old friend.

The decoration and history are interesting and fun to check out. The waitstaff are very friendly and attentive. They pass by often but are not intrusive and know the menu items and are helpful with suggestions. If you come on a night with music, be aware that the volume is so very high one will not be able to hear any of one’s company; unless that is the idea- it will not be a nice night. Several of us left with headaches and sore throats. They had nice appetizers. The bread and feta cheese were really good, but again the appetizers were a bit pricy for the quantity. The food was tasty and had some interesting menu items. t was a bit overpriced for the quality, but definitely for the quantity. The burgers were small but good. Truffle fries were delicious. The stuffed peppers were also flavorful, however, the side was white rice which is part of the stuffing for the pepper- they could have used a garlic mashed or even zucchini or other veggies in a nice butter and herbs. The outside areas were open and offered a reprieve from the loud music. The bathrooms were very clean and well kept. Overall we enjoyed the food, but didn’t find the experience earth shattering.

Great Atmosphere, Great Service, Lackluster Food... The Hilltop Cafe advertises itself as a "Cajun/Greek" establishment and quite frankly that should make for some spectacular fusion food. And yet, the only way I have of describing my meal there is "bland". The fried oysters lacked any kind of seasoning/flavor, presentation was slapdash, and overall the meal was mediocre at best. It's a shame, because the restaurant itself really has bagfuls of charm and atmosphere, and the service is super-friendly.
