Hot N Tot Lomita Reviews
Not crowded at all. The extra outside seating gives a lot of breathing room. I'll be frank; portions were smaller. The salads were hefty and a side of fries used to fill half your plate. A sign of the times. Friendly and attentive to our table, our waitress was really on top of it. It's a place that usually has something you like. Doesn't disappoint.
It was a bit busy today but worth the wait!
Have I not reviewed Hot and Tot yet? This is a great place to sit down with the family and enjoy your food. Very cozy interior and fast service will keep you coming back for more. I've been stuck on the chili verde omlette, lots of flavor. The special egg-chiladas are very delicious. The fried zucchini was crispy and parmaseany. Good cup of coffee every time. Don't let the line outside scare you away, the staff knows how to get people in and out.
Good greasy spoon restaurant. Service is always fast and friendly. Plenty of choice on the menu.
Love the way those hashbrowns come out. Crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. Just like it should be. My wife and split a pancak combo cause its so massive. Good hospitality and seating capacity although you still might end up on the wait list. ✋️
Great brunch place if you like American breakfast. You have to wait a bit on the weekends but it's worth it. Quick friendly service.
A friend's invitation led me here for breakfast for the very first time. Their omelets are delicious and full. They go well with American fries and all you can drink coffee. What a Country
The last time I visited Hot N Tot was during covid, so we decided it was time to return and we were not disappointed. My son had the pancake breakfast which he loved and completely devoured. My boyfriend had the chicken fried steak which was also quite tasty! I had the corned beef hash and, while not prepared entirely the way I like it, it was still very tasty!! The service was great, the restaurant was busy but our food came out fast!
My recent visit to Hot N Tot was an exceptional 5-star dining experience. The culinary creations were nothing short of spectacular, with each dish bursting with unique flavors, meticulously prepared to perfection. The presentation was a visual feast, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the meal. What stood out, in addition to the exquisite food, was the surprisingly short wait time, a rarity in popular dining spots. The swift and attentive service ensured a smooth and pleasant meal from start to finish. I am eagerly anticipating my return to Hot N Tot and highly recommend it to anyone in search of an outstanding dining experience. It's a definite must-visit for food enthusiasts.
We found this place last year while my dad was in the hospital. You are served good portions of food. We have been more than once.
Best Brunch spot that I came across! Most restaurants like this (breakfast joints) tend to order from premade (from food service like Sysco or shamrock, you see their trucks everywhere) distribution. Hot and Tot makes everything in-house. From their daily soups to their house salsa, it’s all done in-house with love and passion. It’s an institution that’s been around since early 60’s. It’s got nostalgia of past (with decor and comfort food) but they keep it clean and tidy. If you are lucky enough to come few times, u realize it’s really a “regular’s” place. Most customers are true regulars and it’s easy to see why. They are super busy on weekends, but kitchen works surprisingly fast. Spinach omelette is delicious as do pancakes and waffles. And it’s easy to see why some people make point of coming on Fridays for clam chowder 😋
I drove past this place and wondered if it was good. I assure you that they are satisfying. I order my eggs over medium and they nailed my eggs. I want to come back here and order the French toast and eggs or pancakes and eggs. I recommend you come here instead of some other place and give them a fair chance. Of you order fries they don't salt them, ask them to salt your fries fresh out of the fryer.
Great spot for breakfast. We got waffle n eggs, chicken fried steak, and ham&egg scramble. All were well prepared and came really fast despite the diner was already crowded. Waitress was very friendly and we'd definitely come visit again.
The wife and I went to our church service. On the way back we decided to stop in and eat. The coffee shop was crowded but we did not wait long. I had the Reuben sandwich and fries. The wife had a house salad with croutons and Italian dressing on the side. Cream of broccoli soup was included and garlic bread. We also had to coffees. The waitress was very friendly and served us quickly. Portions were very large as well. All through the coffee shop you could smell the delicious aromas of food. Believe me this has got to be one of the best places to eat. You certainly won't be disappointed.
I ordered the French Toast plate and it was delicious. As soon as we sat down we were being offered coffee which makes a lot of difference from other places I have been at. Loved the service and attentiveness. This place is a neighborhood dinner that feels like everyone knows each other 🥰.
Great menu and fast and friendly service. I always love coming here for breakfast. Thanks Jackie!
We were just driving by looking for a place to have breakfast on a Sunday and the name caught our attention. We went in not really knowing what to expect since we had never heard of it before and were pleasantly surprised! It was a little less than half full when we arrived and we were told we could sit anywhere. The menu was not extensive but there was a good variety of choices. I chose a 3 stack of buttermilk pancakes and they were pretty large, and very delicious. The price was very reasonable and the staff were kind and attentive. I can see why they've been around since 1946. By the time we left the place was starting to fill up so you may want to get there early. I will definitely go back next time I'm in the area.
Parking lot was pretty full when we arrived. We thought we would have to wait for a table but, to our surprise...we were seated right away. Our waitress was extremely nice and friendly and also she had an upbeat happy vibe...she was awesome. We ordered and our food came super fast! I had my favorite Chicken fried steak with brown gravy. I must say that I was impressed by the cut of meat( thick) and it was probably the best one I've ever eaten and I have eaten many. I'm going back for more and I'd like to try other items next time. The Blueberry pancakes and Canadian bacon was great too. I definitely recommend this establishment to people who love comfort food and good ol' fashion coffee shop type places. I loved it😍.
My goodness, it’s so great to go by this place. I used to eat breakfast here back in the 90s, and the food was always great. I’d usually be reading a novel at the time and have a Spanish omelette. Good memories.
We have been coming here from when we lived here - and we still come whenever visiting! Traditional American Diner with great food and wonderful serving staff. Breakfast is especially popular - look at that ‘small’ orange juice for example! Highly recommendable and worth a visit by anyone!
My husband and I are foodies and his hometown is Lomita but somehow we always end up eating breakfast everywhere else! Yesterday we were playing that game, "where do you wanna eat?" He suggested Hot n Tot, so away we went! We stepped into a bustling coffee shop but were seated right away and greeted by our super friendly waitress. My husband ordered the country skillet and I ordered the Mexican skillet and of course he ordered a short stack of pancakes on the side. My Mexican and his country skillet was the best damn breakfast food we have enjoyed in awhile. The portions looked small when served but we both ended up taking half of each of our skillets home because we were hardily full. The pancakes were perfect, golden and fluffy with a really good taste to them. We ended up taking most of those home too. We have found our new breakfast spot and are happy to support a local small business too!! ☺️
The food was amazing. I got a veggie omelet with home style fries. Food was top notch and the server was very kind and courteous. The atmosphere of the whole restaurant was amazing. Felt like I was back at home eating a meal. Definitely recommend for everyone to go.
It's a great old school vibe place to meet for breakfast. I've had multiple dishes there over the years.
HADN'T BEEN SINCE I WAS A KID, LET ME TELL YOU THEIR FOOD. BETTER WITH AGE!!! SOMETHING I GOT WHEN I WAS 10 12 YEARS OLD THERE WITH MY GRANDMOTHER... TWO EGGS OVER EASY WITH HASH BROWNS, & side of sourdough toast and upgrade to they're delicious.. BISCUITS AND GRAVY IT WAS HONESTLY THE BEST BREAKFAST I HAD IN A LONG TIME.. AND I'LL BE COMING BACK REGULARLY NOW.. ONCE MORE
Service was above expectations. Despite being extremely busy being a country style coffee/cafe. I ordered a hot cake breakfast with bacon and sausage. With coffee to drink. Food was above average quality. It was More than I could eat. Coffee was great and never empty. Very courteous staff. I have no complaints about the visit, cleanliness is great. All staff was wearing mask, gloves and appropriate PPE.
I had a great lunch there and the food was well-cooked. They have huge selection of great breakfast meals. I have tried lots of food there and it didn't disappoint me. The staff was friendly and so attentive.
O M G. great food and great staff. Affordable meals and the portions are huge. Hope that they will have more branch here around sandiego area.
Hot N Tot is a diner dream. Safe distancing, temp check, sanitizer all available. Indoor and outdoor seating. Remember it is not full capacity so you may be waiting for indoor. I got pork chops and scrambled eggs. YES!! I had plenty to take home. My friend got the country breakfast. I was pretty jealous . I did try her gravy and dang! So good. The service is good here and friendly staff. The place is iconic. I honestly love a good diner and am grateful this one is not far from home. I am a fan of this spot for breakfast. Everything is delicious and fresh and seriously comfort served on a plate. Good coffee and I am feeling alive when I leave. If you love biscuits and gravy, steak and eggs, pancakes, and omelets do yourself and favor and drop in. You will thank me!! My mom used to hang out here so I got a little misty for a moment and I looked around and not much has changed. She loved the chili cheese omelet. I can wait for all restrictions to be lifted but let me say when you're at the Hot N Tot you feel like everything is right in the world. Down home delicious food and the diner cozy vibe will give that to you.
Jackie's Hot and tot is a wonderful place The service is great the waitresses are wonderful Thank you Betsy Wendy Sandra Yes Anna An the resting can't remember your names Always a pleasure eating there and you know what my dad likes every morning his cream of wheat
My husband and I stopped here for breakfast. This restaurant has been around for years and known for their breakfast. The food was good, service was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant. Please don't just take my word for it go try it out!!! The side of biscuits and gravy was a meal in itself!
What a local diner should be. Decent service, the restaurant is clean and, most importantly, the breakfast food is on point! I ordered the New Orleans Scramble on my last trip there, and that's going to have to be my go-to order from now on. It was just SO GOOD! Definitely give it a try next time you visit Hot N Tot!
Hot n tot is probably the better breakfast spot in the area. I love eating there early in the morning with the regulars.
Try it! Place order, wait 10 minutes - see? Hot food on table, ready to enjoy. Love HNT for speediness. Organized, efficient and friendly. Good vibe. Check it out.
I was skeptical but the food deserves the praise ! Fresh and cooked to order& attentive waitress. The prices seem higher than others but the food portion justifies it. Delicious ! they also deliver through DoorDash and Uber Eats
I have been going to Hot N Tot for many years but since I moved away from the area we don't get there much anymore. Our visit today was wonderful. Breakfast was delicious and generous. The chili omelette was done perfectly and my husband's pancake were so tasty. The place was filled with people, and everything that came out of the kitchen looked hearty and appetizing! This place definitely hasn't lost its charm over the years. Jackie the owner was helping us and she is definitely a very friendly and welcoming lady. I'm so happy we got to meet her. Next time we're in the area, we will be sure to stop on by!
Go here! Great food quick service. You might wait a bit to get a table but it's worth it. I love having breakfast here. Everything is good. Small spot. Go as casual as you like. I will keep coming here. It's the best.
So happy my senior client and I tried this place for the first time! On Saturday at 945 the place was packed but we got seated right away! The hostess Anita was gracious and our server, Ann was as awesome as the food!!! We will absolutely be back! We had a lovely exchange w our table next to us who had fabulous recommendations and history! The atmosphere while super busy was still top notch. Loved it! Thanks everyone!!!
I knew this place was gonna be good from the outside when I saw their sign, and large parking. Further confirmation was a fairly large waiting area & old school pad to write your name down during extended wait times - I can tell this place pops on the weekend & gets crowded. To Experience the BOOM in ya mouth😋😋😋you must come to this lovely spot in Lomita. Hot 'N Tot is magically delicious 🌈 💯 there is a reason they have been here since 1946 - pure bliss! 👍🏽 On this visit I had Chilaquiles w/ chile verde, two eggs, with rice & beans. This plate was so good I killed the entire plate in like 15 minutes, pure fire🧨🔥🐦🔥it was the bomb 💣 yes I said the bomb in 2024🤣 it was that good! Wifey went with one of their omelettes & she substituted wirh a bananba pancake. The omelette was great but the highlight of her dish was the bandana pancake. Our waitress (Wendy - really cool vibes & service) brought out this magical ✨🪄pecan syrup, oh my...it was so tasty my wife immediately ask for a to-go box, packed up half of her omelette to ensure she had room in her tummy to finish her pancake with that tasty magical 🌈 syrup - so good!!! This is a classic diner with great vibes. In this 2024 world of quick & casual; it is nice to find this gem offering great tasting dood with fresh ingredients, classic atmosphere, and stellar service ,💯 - they even use old school tickets for your bill, hand-writen too...I love everything about this place & I'll definitely be back - they just gained 3 new customers for life! I will be coming here as a senior citizen - lord willing ✝️🛐 They are open for breakfast & lunch only so do not make dinner plans🤣 Frankly, I see why, they have mastered their dishes and you can taste the quality. I observed very closely, these are hard-working staff who are dedicated, every dish coming out to everyone's table looked delicious😋😋😋 go as soon as you can - there is nothing else to say, toodles 😁 Re-visit 10/10/25, same great food but we did not sit in Webdy's section so the service was just ok. Wendy is the best & we will be sure to wait for her section next time!💯
They were packed and still got my food lightning fast. It was delicious perfectly prepared. The waitress was full of personality and took great care of us. Its now a new spot for me to frequent.
Had breakfast Easter morning and so glad we did! I tried the country sausage biscuits & gravy! It was so good & filling! The potatoes are cut nice & thin perfect with sautéed onions. The wait staff was very attentive at the bar. Coffee refills on time and the cooks got our meals out quick. The staff was all very friendly even on a packed holiday morning. I loved that they knew their regulars by name & knew what they usually ordered! Rare too see servers so attentive! We will definitely be back!
Hot N Tot is a great place to go for a big breakfast. They also serve lunch all day, so if you don’t like breakfast food there are still options. This place is a classic local’s breakfast spot. They have the typical breakfast items like pancakes, waffles, eggs, omelettes, gravy, etc. There is a fairly large parking lot and we can usually get a spot. This place does get crowded though, especially on the weekends.
A really delicious American style breakfast diner that seems to cater to regulars, which you know means that it’s good. They have a large parking lot in the back and a large menu as well with tons of options. It is a bit pricier than some other diners, but that’s to be expected in this area. Still not an unreasonable amount, just something to note if you are a large group. Our service was very quick and the food came out about 10 minutes after we ordered and everything was done perfectly. I chose the #9 Country Breakfast with two biscuits, sausage, hashbrowns, and eggs. I especially loved the biscuits because they were light, fluffy, and very tasty. Obviously had to start off the meal with a hot cup of coffee and they kept the refills coming all morning. I definitely recommend and would go back again if I am in the area during breakfast time again.
A small coffee shop that serves up a good breakfast. I haven't tried lunch menu items. The breakfast I ordered was good, eggs cooked just right. Most places don't cook over easy eggs right and I get medium. I was happy about the eggs. Not good enough breakfast for 5 stars. Wife had chili verde that was very good. It's definitely a come back restaurant.
This place was pretty busy and the food was alright. Some complaints are that the homefries weren't that good and my mother's chicken sandwich was bland. However, other than that the food was pretty good. My steak was great and the English muffins were too. The service was also good but a little slow, but it was a Saturday morning. Overall a pretty solid breakfast spot.
It was good old fashioned diner. Food was solid, service was pretty good. I just kept seeing a guy in the kitchen shoving food in his mouth and licking his fingers.
First visit and I was very impressed with the pleasant table service. The waitress was very attentive and greeted my family with a smile every time our table was served. Food portions were very large and we couldn't finish and absolutely had to take some home. Food was great and cost effective. Would visit again but next time on an empty stomach.
Quick to seat, food on the table quick too. Great homey feel, you can tell there's regulars always coming in. The waitresses have tattoo selves so you know they are super welcoming to all people. Lots of parking, if parking is bad that means it might take a while to get a seat. Pancakes are not the best... But everything else is amazing!! Spinach omelettes are my favorite!
I just recently started dining here and I like it. Prices are a little high, but still reasonable. The food is good and the servers are excellent. A couple of waitresses at first seemed a little cold, but I soon realized they were just a bit harried by the pace they were at. One such young lady waited on me this morning and was very sweet. I stop here about every ten days or so and will continue to do so.
I do not come here enough, partly because they are not open for dinner. When I get a chance to come for breakfast or lunch, it’s always delicious. Today they had their Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup that I had with my Hot Roast Beef Sandwich. Very tasty and the sandwich had toasted bread instead of soft, the texture was very pleasing, the mashed potatoes and gravy were delicious. There’s plenty of parking and the service is very courteous and speedy.
Classic breakfast spot. Service is always great and friendly. Food comes out fast and plentiful, it's a local gem. Can't go wrong dining here for breakfast.
Great food!!!.. be prepared to pay like a 5 lol🌟 restaurant..a bit too pricey for me. 2 plates plus coffee 46 dollars, plus tip. Portions are somehow generous. Good coffee and omelets. I give four 4 stars because of the prices. I think they are a bit too high for a coffee restaurant. Weekends are crowded..go early. The service is great depending on how busy it gets, you may get an irritated waitress once in a while..lol.. Please check your bill, they tend to make mistakes on their behalf. I'm happy going on weekdays when it is less crowded. It can get loud when crowded, still a great family restaurant.
We happened upon Hot N Tot while we were driving down PCH going to a different location. It's been there since 1946, which is pretty impressive. We sat at the counter, because there was a wait. The menu is huge! The only thing that didn't look good was very the aged looking, yellowish sugar in a dispenser. I don't think it had been used for many years. The dishes were big and there was plenty to take home. A little pricey, but with it. Overall, I world recommend this restaurant, but get there early on Sunday mornings to avoid the crowds.
We Were A Party Of 6. Our Server Was Nice And Kept Our Coffee Full. They had Half and Half, Vanilla, And Hazel Nut Creamer Options. I Really Enjoy My Coffee With The Hazelnut Flavor. My Coffee is What Kick Starts My Day. : ) The Food Was Delicious. The Pork Chop Was A Little Over Cooked So Was Not As Juicy As I Was Expecting. Still Good None The Less. I Would Definitely Recommend This Restaurant To Anyone Who Is Interested In Good Food. Enjoy Friends : p
Very expensive and it lacks flavor. Home potatoes are not good and if you get there anytime after 9am you will be waiting for a long time. Vegetables in the food like the omelettes and scrambles are pretty much raw. They need to be sautéed with some color and flavor. The lunch may be better but the breakfast just didn’t do it for me.
Pancakes were just ok. The best thing I had was the turkey patty sausage. Their biscuits are to die for. I've had many biscuits but never a homemade biscuits fluffy and soooo good. Breakfast is great here. Stop by to try they have something on the menu for all.
It wasn't as good as I remembered it to be. I don't think the 2 cooks cared at all about what they were cooking.
Ho hum.....no big deal. Went there for the 1st time a few days ago and it seems to be a neighborhood place that is average. Food was ok , clean restaurant and service was ok.
Have been a regular for years, sadly this was probably my last time. Prices have gone up again. $42 for 2 people The hamburger patty had no taste and super thin, meat on husband's sandwich was like leather and not much put between the bread. Should have listened to other people's complaints we've heard and gone somewhere else.
Ordered steak with sunny side up eggs. Asked for medium cooked steak and got a super dry, super well done, unflavored and super tough piece of meat. Sunny side up eggs were cold. Also ordered the avocado/bacon omelet which was just ok, nothing special. The fruits that I ordered tasted like it's been in the fridge for some time. Waiter never came to refill our water or come check on us. Had to flag several people down for the bill.
Waited over 45 mins for breakfast of 3. My order was late but okay, the other 2 orders was extremely late and served in half portions. We had to remind the waitress we didn't get our food, she didn't even know what was ordered. Just a horrible experience, my brother left without even eating, will never go there again.
Was there for my first experience and service is a pet peeve as someone who used to work the industry me and the wife sat down to order waited a good little bit as it’s busy and table gets sat down next to us and we’re close to 10 minutes waiting and a few minutes in the waitress comes takes their order. So they get service ahead of others already waiting? Walked out went elsewhere. Not professional at all and will never recommend to my friends. Norms is across the street.
Its not the best food but its ok ,what I dont like its that all your party literally has to be here , my friend was in the bathroom and they didn't sit us until she got out, so honestly I won't come here again
The food at Hot N Tot is awesome. Super tasty and huge portions. This one star rating is for the service, the cooks and the general attention to detail when ordering through a food delivery service such as Postmates. I’ve ordered from Hot N Tot dozens of times and my order has been wrong more times than not. There is a field for “Special Instructions” when ordering but these instructions go unnoticed by the staff when preparing your order. This is a picture of my breakfast burrito from this morning after I tore it apart to remove the hash browns that I specifically said I did not want. I called the restaurant and they offered to make a new burrito for me but said that I would have to pick it up. A nice offer but it kind of defeats the whole purpose of going through Postmates, doesn’t it? So, just a bit of advice for those using a food delivery service, place your order and then CALL THE RESTAURANT to confirm that they’ve read any special instructions on your order. Have a great day Lomita!
