Aretsky's Patroon New York Reviews
All of my senses were stimulated by the ambiance, which included beautiful decor, cool music, and servers bustling around the open kitchen. It was an amazing sensation.
The staff provides the same excellent level of service to the single diner as they do to a full table. Consistent food and service. A midtown institution for a reason.
Super roof top bar! Enjoyed the drinks and guacamole - the service was great as well.
Very cool spot. Modern updates with a lot of history. Authentic bar tucked in back is a great wind-down spot with a few TVs too watch game. Meticulous service without pretentious vibe.
Good ambiance; good drinks; good service
I love this joint, I’ve been taking clients here for years. I went this week and was so excited to see 2 vegetarian options on the entree menu. The tofu was delicious, service was great. I can’t wait to come back!
This place is fantastic for laid back drinks, upscale bar food and cigars! Megan was our server and was fabulous- absolutely the best service we’ve ever had in NYC! Full of young professionals and a fun vibe!
Not only a great hangout, but the staff is also amazing! I dropped an heirloom diamond ring between the tiles on the roof deck and was so impressed when the staff immediately promised to pull up the tiles the next morning to find it for me! I am so grateful for how helpful they were and how quickly they were able to find my ring!
First time here. Had a business dinner in the private wine cellar. Wine, food, service were all wonderful. As you can imagine, the wine cellar is a bit chilly, bring a sweater if you're dining in this room. Had the ahi tuna appetizer, lamb, and cheesecake for dessert.
Both the service and the food were excellent and what you would expect from a high-end restaurant in mid-town. But the real credit goes to the bar and the bar tender. They have a great selection of spirits and a warm, environment to enjoy them in.
We had our wedding reception here and it was the best reception ever! So Aretsky's is an events venue on the weekends and a truly excellent restaurant on weekdays, so to start with the food at the reception was fantastic (including a great wedding cake they made in-house!). We had a sit down dinner on their second floor and a cocktail hour and post-dinner dancing at their great rooftop bar. Their entire staff was an absolute pleasure at every turn and the entire venue just has this classy feel to it that makes it feel like you're in a special place. The whole event received universal acclaim from all our guests to the extent that talking about how great the venue was become a frequent topic of conversation afterwards. When planning the event, we had a single point of contact with them (Elena) from start to finish who helped us every step of the way. Her assistance was invaluable to us and the whole thing went off without a hitch.
It's tough to find a legitimately good place in this area but this is one I've saved and will return to! I would recommend the Parkerhouse rolls and the Oreo cookies for dessert. Upscale dining with down-to-earth wait staff and bartenders.
Enjoyed every bite and minutes sitting in such a lovely rooftop restaurant. The restaurant is family owned and operated. They make you feel so welcome.
Very busy lunch spot .... more quiet in the evening. Excellent food! Excellent service! Maitre d carefully oversees everything very professionally! With such good food and good service, you can't go wrong dining here!!!
I can't think of many (any?) spots as reliable as Patroon for food, wine, and service. Sirloin I had tonight was perfect. Wine list is like a toy store for adults. Always look forward to my next visit.
I love food and wine. I've eaten at Michelin star restaurants. I've eaten at Le Bernadin, Daniel, Boulud, and many other top rated restaurants all over. But my favorite now is Aretsky's Patroon (AP). My last dinner there was a few weeks ago with my business partner and a colleague. We started at the bar with a some cocktails and then had dinner with an excellent bottle of Chateauneauf du Pape and finished off with some single malts and blue cheese. As we were leaving, I ran into Gene Aretsky outside and we talked for quite awhile. AP is not just about fine dining but genuine hospitality.
Sat at the bar and had a fantastic lunch. Amy was great and I will continue to return.
We thoroughly enjoyed Aretsky's Patroon for a small business dinner on a Friday night, complete with their Friday night jazz combo and special $42 prix fixe menu which is a real bargain. Excellent onion soup; oxtail dumpling consommé, and a terrific suckling pig confit, pieced together in a nice presentation. Nice bar; clubby atmosphere. Nice banquettes. Like a snazzy local NY kind of place. Excellent service.
Delicious food outstanding service and a quite Lively Rooftop Bar especially on Fridays. Started with the grilled ocotpus, then the porkchop (outstanding), with sides of roasted brussel sprouts, fingerling potatoes and mushroom grits.... ended the evening with the baked Alaska desert !
Excellent food, service and ambience. Good for a business lunch, social or a date. They always make you feel welcome and if sometimes Ken Aretsky will come and spend a few minutes at your table.
Great food and wine list. Staff treats you well. Very relaxing place to enjoy a meal during the week.
This past week we hosted a family graduation celebration for our daughter at Aretsky’s Patroon in the Match Room and we could no be happier with how the event went. The food was beyond amazing! We selected the menu, and all the things we chose were fabulous. The crab cake I had as my starter is something I will be dreaming about, and will be the standard by which I measure all crab cakes from here on out. It was that good. The wine, the room, the desserts, all were just absolutely beautiful. The sommelier and service staff were kind and friendly, right there without hovering, and provided lovely service. The acoustics were excellent and we could hear one another well in the Match Room, an important reason why we had wanted to have a private dining space. Beyond the satisfaction that we could hear one another with ease, I felt the space was truly beautiful and very special feeling. A big part of our satisfaction with the grad lunch was how thoughtful and organized the private dining sales coordinator was in our correspondence. Victoria was super easy to work with, helped us plan for a wonderful and memorable event. If you are looking for a private dining space in Manhattan, I heartily recommend Aretsky’s Patroon, and would choose them again in a heartbeat for a special celebration.
I had a filet mignon which was outstanding (I opted for peppercorn sauce). French fries were also very good (crunchy and tasty)
The elegant dining room is both classy and exciting, while the flamboyant cast of characters on the staff provide impeccable service with a side of panache. The food is beyond delicious and the wine list can't be beat. The bar room on the main level is a quiet haven from the bustle of the dining room, and the rooftop has a much more casual vibe. It's like three restaurants in one. Not to miss.
A destination for Steak in NYC. Need a place for a business dinner, a celebratory night out, or have a large party? I don’t think I could recommend a better dining experience in the neighborhood. Steaks are incredible and beautifully presented. Cooked to perfection. Eat family style, get the Cote de Boeuf, get the sides, get the dessert. It’s that kind of place. Over the top is what you should be doing. I hate Lobster Mac & Cheese, it ruins lobster. Patroon’s Lobster Mac & Cheese is a delight. The Brussels sprouts are best I’ve had ever. Tart tatin is incredible. A must get. And then the steaks. Filet mignon is too lean for me normally, at Aretsky’s Patroon is perfection. The Cote de Boeuf is immaculate and of course they present it, then slice it. Some of the nicest service staff and ownership who swung by and was beyond gracious. Forgot to mention cocktails were 10/10 good too. My party complimented the wine, although I didn’t drink it. Amazing. Worth a trip.
The food was exceptional as was the service. The only thing to be aware of is that it is VERY loud! So we pretty much yelled across the table at each other. It’s a very lively and exuberant atmosphere!
Found this place by luck. What a gem! Waiter (sorry, didn’t catch his name) was friendly, informative and efficient. Had the pleasure of meeting the owners. Food was delicious. Had Bass and halibut, yum! And the Brussels sprouts was a nice side dish. Unfortunately we didn’t leave room for desert. But we’ll be back!
One of my favorite American restaurants that seriously has something for everyone! And top quality ingredients. Plus they have an amazing roof top. Perfect if your in the midtown east area and just want to sit, have a drink with someone, and chat! But definitely come on the earlier side (5) if you can because Tuesday- thursday happy hours can be packed. Note they are Closed on the weekends.
Rooftop sometimes has private events but when it doesn’t it’s definitely the place to be. Really lively, very packed with people, mostly corporate folks after the office.. Even with the high volume the bar is churning out delicious cocktails, and they knew how to make a Trinidad sour when i went this past Thursday which most bartenders I’ve met don’t seem to know about. Gotta to give kudos to them.. Always call and ask if the rooftop has been bought out because it happens often.. Thanks again!
An absolutely phenomenal NY experience. Think of a classy but low key blend of 21 and Elaine’s, this true gem of a restaurant and bar exceed any expectations. Professional and friendly staff, incredible dining and a touch of love from the Aretsky family who fawn over the patrons. My new NYC favorite.
This restaurant reminded me of a very fancy house. The waiters were the nicest waiters i have ever seen in my life and the food was outstanding. Also has a very cool bar area.
Classic in both reputation and services. You can dine on the main level or host a private event in one of six private rooms (different sizes available). I was here for a private corporate holiday luncheon and the service was impeccable from the front hostess to the full service meal. Wine selection is impressive and so is the food. I had the split pea soup with bacon, filet mignon and the seasonal dessert of the day, pumpkin mousse. Loved everything!
This restaurant is incredible. Amazing customer service to start. They had to cancel my reservation once and they comped my next meal without hesitation. This is the only restaurant I've ever experienced that. The food is incredible from beginning to end as well. Truly an amazing experience there every time. Must visit for the rolls and the Vidalia Onion Rings, they are the highlight for me.
This is a beautiful restaurant. The service and food we're excellent. Not once did me and my wife felt ignored. The restaurant owner personally greeted us at our table along with the chef, Aretsky. I recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a beautiful place for a date night or any special occasion. The service alone is worth the admission!
5 stars doesn’t do this justice. The service was some of the best we’ve ever had and the steaks were even better. It was the first time we’ve ever been there and we were welcomed like regulars. It’s nice to see great service and food still an option
Service is excellent. The seared tuna was absolutely delicious. Great place for business lunch.
Best Food & Wine in NYC. Perfect service. My husband requested this restaurant for his Birthday!
Aretsky’s Patroon is a hidden gem in midtown east off third avenue. The food is delicious, the wine list is quality and the decor screams expensive. I come here for business lunches and have sat in the private room off the kitchen, main room and the upstairs outdoor lounge which is great for summer time. It always impresses our clients when we come here and is my go-to business lunch location. I have never been here for dinner to stake this with a grain of salt. However based on my experiences I would definitely recommend.
This is a restaurant living up to its best self. It all begins with the owners, The Arestsky family truly embodies grace, class, kindness and good manners. They care. Something to be emulated for sure. All of their staff are fully present, all the time, and it shows. Ken and Diane are the epitome of class and genuineness (is that a word?). Then towards the end of our meal, their son Gene visited us. He asked us how our meal was? How our experience was? It wasn't perfunctory. His questions were genuine, not forced or trained. I said to my dinner companion: 'there is someone who was raised by good people, by parents that care" The food was almost an afterthought. But it was absolutely fantastic. The perfect meal for two: Caesar salad with the dressing made scratch at table. Followed by Crab Louis (delish) then a Tomahawk steak cooked medium rare, and brussel sprouts. It doesn't get better than this. Get yourself here and see what it's like when the people who run the place really care. Can't wait to return.
Wonderful elegant spot, great staff and service, great food. I stopped in for lunch and had the seared tuna with mixed greens, coffee, and homemade ice cream. Higher pricing point but outstanding. Amy the bartender is A++
I have had the pleasure of eating here twice in the last week. The service was great. The food was excellent. We enjoyed the wine, the food, and the atmosphere. It is definitely worth trying out. You will not be disappointed.
I came here for a business lunch and the service was outstanding-warm, friendly and attentive. There were plenty of vegetarian options and the Brussel sprout salad was great. It was my colleague’s birthday and the team went out of their way to make it special. Love this place! Upscale but comfortable.
Ambiance, hospitality, photography collection, and of course meals are second to none! You’ll feel welcomed in a way that’s becoming a lost art in this city. You really can’t go wrong on the menus either. Believe me, I’ve sampled quite a bit :) if you haven’t been, get excited for your first meal of many
Aretsky Patroon is a wonderful restaurant for hosting business dinners, particularly for groups. They have lovely private rooms upstairs that are well decorated and have a nice atmosphere. The food was delicious; I had an octopus appetizer, a branzino entree and their homemade ice cream for dessert. The octopus was tender and well seasoned, the branzino tasted fresh and had a great sear on the skin, and the homemade ice cream was light and flavorful. Service was well done: The staff were generally attentive, they came into the room regularly to make sure the glasses were filled and the food all came in a timely manner and plates were taken away efficiently. The room was a bit loud with our party so some of the staff got our drinks wrong (e.g., pouring sparkling water into our glass when we asked for still water, or mixing up the wine) but they did the best given the circumstances and overall it was a lovely experience.
Great ambiance, amazing food and service! Recently went for a business dinner and was blown away by the food and hospitality. Special shout out to Manny for managing a very large group with ease a big smile and outstanding service, he took the experience up a notch and didn't miss a beat! Will definitely be back again Lamb Shank was perfection!
i just had lunch here and this place is pretty spectacular. from the moment we arrived and were greeted by jordan and jorge to gaby and mario; the staff is exceptional. truly. now the decor and food. first the decor; their taste in photography is ridiculous and their lollipop lamb chops were perfect. please thank jorge, jordan, gaby and mario. they deserve the recognition. love this place.
Really lovely service and the food is amazing. This restaurant also has a gorgeous art collection comprising New York City themed photographs.
Had the most amazing and special experience at Aretsky’s Patroon. Every detail from the atmosphere, to the staff and to the out of this world food was absolutely astounding. Best restaurant in NYC for sure hands down!!!!
While the food was amazing (get the Parker House rolls!) the service was impeccable which is something I appreciate. This was my first time dining but I see more visits in my future!
Tom Waits said, "The way you do anything is the way you do everything." In the restaurant world, Mr. Waits's truth is applied at Aretsky's Patroon. A restaurant whose wine offering is so spectacular, the food served could just pass muster. That is the last thing you'll experience at Patroon. My brother and I had dinner on October 3rd, and if the devil is in the details, the devil is also an excellent chef, sous, kitchen crew, bartenders, and floor staff. The crab louie was perfect (beautifully prepared crab, herbs, avocado, and a sauce I'd buy by the jar (hint, hint)), as were the onion rings. My brother's burger - something I'd have to have taken apart and eaten with a knife and fork - had me briefly buyers remorsing. It was obviously something prepared with high quality beef, seasoned well, cooked not only to his liking but to ensure the meat was recognized, if you know what I mean., While neither of us cocktailed, the wine list is meaningful and the bar team knows what it's doing. I've had the privilege of attending jazz at the Rooftop Bar (upcoming performances include weekly in October and on November 21), where I have benefited from the staff's composing, mixing, and pouring skills. Shouts must be made to Gene, Melissa, Jackson, and José Luis Condé, whose presence and actions make my visits to Aretsky's Patroon more meaningful and, obviously, better. Aretsky's Patroon's aesthetics are simultaneously classic and modern - decor, design, comfort, service, vibe. The food is exceptional. The service is impeccable. I feel very grateful to be a guest here.
This place was amazing. The best steak and service. Cannot recommend highly enough. Had the prime cab for two, which servers four perfectly! 😍
Based on a recommendation from a friend, I was treated to a really good meal with some surprises. The old fashioned was superb, it even came with a single block of ice. On this evening a softshell crab was on the menu with sauteed spinach and by request, onion rings. While I was enjoying my dinner out comes a trolley for another great treat, a hand made Caesar Salad. It was very enjoyable evening even though theor cigar lounge was closed for a private event.
I was in the city with my hubby, and he made lunch reservations here—great choice! The vibe was definitely businessy, with lots of suits, white shirts and power lunches happening (totally expected for a weekday in NYC). Prices were on the higher side, but hey, it’s the city! Now, the food? Absolutely delicious. We went with the prix fixe menu, which turned out to be an amazing deal for the quality. The staff was super professional and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Would I come back? Absolutely! Next time, I’d love to check out the rooftop when the weather’s nice. Can’t wait!
Had a wonderful dinner with a group of four. Made a last minute, late night reservation and we ended up closing the place down. Our server was very professional and knowledgeable and the host came by our table to chat for a while. It was winter so we didn’t consider the rooftop. The restaurant at that time was somewhat busy but not noisy. Very chill atmosphere. Food was fantastic!!
Arrived early for a drink in the bar, recommended. Had a great table and great food and service. Great atmosphere also. Great way to top off our 10th Wedding Anniversary trip on our last night. Came following a recommendation from friends and will further recommend and revisit when back in New York.
This was my first time at this restaurant and I liked it a lot. It felt very intimate, and the food was great. The meat that I ordered came perfectly rare, the beef tartar was full of delicious avocados. My group had 6 people total but since we had a reservation we got a great table. In no time at all the restaurant was full of costumers so, a reservation might guarantee you a spot.
Absolutely love the place!! Service was outstanding. Very polite, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The rooftop itself was very lovely but the bar inside was also very cozy and classy. We had bunch of seafood appetizers which were all amazing. Then I had pineapple rib, and my sister had fish. Both were equally great and ended up taking the left over home. I enjoy every moment there and I would happily recommend this place to anyone. I will go back and try other items on the menu for sure.
What a great experience! We were invited by a friend but had to choose the venue. We chose Aretsky's Patroon because people we know shared their good experiences with us. Service was extremely friendly and professional. The waitress knew every fact about the menu, wine, dishes. She was attentive but did not disturb. Perfect. We had the Friday night jazz pre-fix. Three courses and jazz music. First an amuse bouche, then grilled octopus (the best I -ever- had!), Black Bass with mushroom risotto, then warm cinnamon tart with plums. At the end, with the espresso, a praliné. My wife had the petit filet mignon as main course. One of the best dinners we have had in NYC! Nice atmosphere, music, wine. Will come back soon!
The service here is amazing! Waiters were attentive and funny, telling us stories and jokes. They were able to cater to my dietary needs and requests. The set dinner of $45 for an entree, main and dessert was worth the price. Food is great and at reasonable speed. Overall, one of the best restaurants in New York.
Unfortunately not open on weekends. Suits and finance bros load up the rooftop all afternoon into the evening. Dining room is more intimate than I'd like, but food and service are respectable.
Had the vegetarian burger. It was pretty good. There was a soft shelled crab sandwich in the lunch special that looked really good. I can’t wait to order next time!
Good quality on all menu items. Truffle fries are delicious. Service is outstanding. Not many vegetarian options. Ambiance is very refined.
Wonderful wine and fabulous food - I only wish the fish was a bit more memorable given the price point. Would definitely recommend the apps and drinks however.
Neat rooftop with relaxing vibes. Drinks are standard midtown prices ($20 cocktails). Service was a little slow for the small crowd at the bar.
Nice rooftop, good atmosphere great for drinks after work. Only one girl serving, she was totally awesome managing a huge crowd all by her self, serving drinks and food! Respect!
Really nice setting. I went for a special event, a 🍷 tasting. So I can't comment on the restaurant experience. But the passed snacks and service were both very good...
mid week lunch. great service. very very good food. a tad stuffy. would have preferred rooftop but colleagues were worried about bad humidity hair for second half of the day. would go back definitely
Hip space on the upper level of a townhouse in Midtown East. Fun layout with a large bar serving beer, wine and crafty cocktails with access to a small open air sitting area on the roof. No real views from the terrace though. Bummer!
The bartenders were great and personable. The clientele were differently different. The bar is a hub for the finance industry workers, a sea of white button-ups. They’re not bad per se, but the bar definitely has a certain vibe when you’re stopping by in the early evening. If you’re going for a quiet drink, come after 9pm when the corporate crowd has dissipated.
Loved the ambiance of the restaurant - the live music was a nice touch too. The food was delicious! Visited for restaurant week (but they offer a similar menu on Friday evenings as well), and it was a fantastic experience. The bacon wrapped filet was mouth-watering; especially with the added blue cheese on top!! The highlight of the meal (because I love sweets) was the espresso mousse cake...OMG! I don’t like coffee flavored anything, but this was a slice of heaven!! The best part was the dollop of cocoa ice cream on top - what amazing flavor it had! Every bite was a new flavor party in my mouth...don’t take my word for it - the entire table agreed!! I only wish I would’ve had my phone to take photos...ugh :-/
Food and service were exceptional. Possibly the best burger I've ever eaten. The only knock is how tight the seating was. And the noise level of the other patrons was thunderous. A great option for an after work get together. A poor option for a romantic date.
We were a bit cramped in the main dining room, but great service, it has the bustling NYC feel, but lacks a personality. With a name like this, we were expecting something a bit more different. But it is a good solid lunch experience.
food was excellent!!, Staff extremely attentive and courteous. The atmosphere was a bit crammed because they had a few groups on the roof top so we could barely move. also not handicap accessible
Pleasant bar / jazz venue before or after dinner . Selection of wine was limited and not very good for the price per glass. Bar food was uninspiring and quite bland (guacamole). Also , price excessive .The host was very welcoming and I would go back because of him and what musicians or singer were performing
2/2024: Servers were nice. Warm atmosphere and good for group gatherings. Had a 3 course meal here— noodle soup, filet mignon, and cheesecake. Fries were crispy and actually nice with the ketchup, along with the filet mignon which was cooked nicely. Noodle soup was better than campbells, cheesecake was just ok and not as impressive as Costco.
Feels super fancy here, definitely a date or work venue if your intention is to impress. Service was prompt and discrete. My waiter was a dear explaining some of the dishes when I'd shown interest. I came for restaurant week and the pre fixe was very filling. They do have a lamb tartare on their regular menu that I can't wait to try out the next time I come.
The place is beautiful and is more clubby than steakhousy. The sommelier is a very nice guy and the dining room manager changed our table as we were seated near a table of loudmouth guys who didn't care who they bothered by screaming across the table.....the people who replaced us at our first table had to be moved too.....he was terrific. Waitress kept hiding somewhere we couldn't find her. Dale had a tuna appetizer that was great. We shared an adequate sirloin steak and vegetables that were really good. Truth be told, I wanted a baked potato but they don't serve them. Ken Aretsky has defined Patroon and it shouldn't be categorized. Good for him.
Went here for a Company gathering, and we were crowded into a corner section of the bar upstairs. The drinks were good, but I thought the food left a little to be desired. Other people stayed for dinner and I did not participate there. Perhaps another visit will allow me to sample more of their menu, and I'll be able to amend this review.
the food was really good BUT the waiter asked us what sides we wanted with our entrees. we assumed that they were included (because why else would he ask) and when we received the bill, we were shocked to see $30 for fries and onion rings. also, the waiter told us about two specials (gazpacho and burrata) and then we heard him tell the table next to us about a crab special. I will not be returning.
Calamari was very batter heavy, shishito peppers were a mixed bag - some were VERY hot, the mild ones were soggy with oil, fries were flavorless, tuna tartar was good, branzino had too much butter on it which it didn’t need but the arugula fennel salad on the side was great. Mac and cheese was gritty. Cheesecake wasn’t good and the beignets weren’t bad but the chocolate sauce it came with wasn’t warm.
Visited the rooftop bar with my wife. A private party was ending so it was a little awkward and loud. The servers were very accommodating. We sat in a tiny booth in the near corner. The prices were a little on the high side for the apps but certainly for drinks. Regarding the restaurant, we had a rez but upon seeing the dining room it was too claustrophobic for us. Seats on top of seats.
Very pricey. The good but not extraordinary combination of small portions, good tasting food and service make it hard to justify the sticker price depressing the ratings. Couldn’t get seasonal chopped salad without onions but the bite of the Roasted Red and Gold Beets salad was very nice. The pork chop special is recommended. Drinks break the $20 mark
Food wasnt good at all. Lamb chops that i ordered wasnt fresh, no taste nothing. Onion soup taste like a water with boiled onions in it. But interior was good, even we have been waiting for food more than 45 min.
I have never paid more for terrible tasting food. Had a $70 small piece of steak that had NO flavor!! I didnt even finish it there was at least $45 of steak left on my plate. My friend had the $80 lamb chops with similar results.
I have been here 7 times in the last year so I came for dinner number 8 with a very good female friend. We are both professional successful women, but Suzette from the onset was very rude to us and wanted to seat us us in the back toward the kitchen. I couldn't believe how snobby and rude she was to us!! Jim was our waiter and he was very unattentive, disingenuous with a very cavalier attitude. Jim opted to not write down our order and forgot the Caesar salad Jim didn't even apologize rather he disappeared for the rest of our dinner I was mortified! I truly like Stefan and the tall dark haired wine steward and some of the other staff here- but you had an opportunity to make this a great dinner number 8 but the ball was dropped by quite a few people- sorry to say!
Risotto was starchy and bland. And salad was mostly shredded haricots vert and peas For a very reasonable $60+. NY greed has no boundaries sauté Brussels sprouts were soggy
Went in for a happy hour last night at the bar. Ordered pigs in a blanket which tasted like Vienna sausages and were cold. the fried calamari were cold. Cocktails were ok. The bartenders were so nice and attentive. was hoping for something better with the upscale type of place and prices to match.
Save your time and your money! So many other AMAZING restaurants in the city! The food is so bland. The workers are rude, definitely save your valuable time. *( the rooftop has no view )*
