La Katrina Newbury Park Reviews
Newbury needs more spots for a casual night out and this one was great. Excellent mexican food and great service. Glad to have this new spot in town.
Love their salsas, such a good variety, such good subtle flavor. Tacos are fire. Good meat quality. Good atmosphere. Went their for my birthday, got the Super Burrito, and flan, really enjoyed it. Love the wall art and giant patio. Great service, great people.
It's my second time here. The 1st visit I didn't care so much for what I ordered (chicken mole) but this time, the taco plate was excellent. The meat was tender and tasty and the service was great.
The menu had great options to choose from. The food was flavorful and satisfying.
La comida muy rica y el personal muy amable exelente servicio y muy recomendable para comer en familia
La comida esta deliciosa, el personal es muy amable
Amazing Mexican Food! Very Authentic.
La Katrina Tacos and Beer in Newbury Park is a gem. I always rate Mexican restaurants based upon the quality of their al pastor. Their al pastor smoked anything I've ever had in Ventura, LA, or Orange County, or even Mexico. It is that good. I hope this place thrives because it is wonderful.
Food was great, staff was warm and they have a great patio to enjoy the sun!
Good food, well-priced, and clean. Staff were friendly.
New favorite for our office. Super friendly service. I have been trying something new each time.
Great food, good prices, awesome staff!
Great new place in Newbury Park. Love the vibe and atmosphere 😎
Great food! Great service! I will be back!
Server was friendly. Food was really good
The best food in CA
Carnitas and Al Pastor burritos were wins
That was delicious burrito 🌯 5 star, view is the perfect
This place is delicious! I ordered a 3 taco combo and a kids meal. The employees are very nice as well. We will be back.
Really enjoyed this new Mexican spot in Newbury Park! The staff are genuinely nice and friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The food is delicious, and you can really taste the difference with the freshly made tortillas; everything felt authentic and full of flavor.
Delicious tacos! I ordered street tacos of chicken, carne asada and shredded beef. The shredded beef was my favorite. They also have serve chips and salsa. Frienly service. My new Mexican spot to go!
It's a fairly new restaurant and we have been a there twice, breakfast and late lunch both time the food was serviced fresh and delicious. We had the burritos and tacos plates, and enjoyed them.
First time trying this restaurant and did so based upon other reviews. I had pork chili Verde which was delicious. The portions are good. The corn tortillas are freshly made and the best I've ever eaten as they're unusually thick. Even had live mexican music that was enjoyable. I'll be back.
Great food! Very unique Mexican food, I had a great experience. Love the new tables and silverware. The owner made such a nice place to come to eat. Thank you.
I wish they had tequila or Mezcal, but besides that the Michelada’s are good and the food is good. Love this little spot in Newberry Park.
The food is delicious, people are friendly, and its always clean. Definitely recommended!
Good food. Good service.
The chili verse plate’s pork just melts in your mouth like meat butter. Their corn tortillas tasted exceptionally fresh! Everyone at my party was very satisfied with their food. The waitresses were very friendly. Overall a great experience.
It's new and clean, good food and good service, keep it up.
Awesome food!
This great spot had excellent food, fair prices and a wide selection! Everyone was super friendly and helpful, and the outdoor seating is tucked away safely and has ample umbrellas and heaters. Our kids and small dog had plenty of room. I heartily recommend this for your next Mexican food and drink fix!
Great fresh food.
We went for taco Tuesday and the $2.00 tacos didn't disappoint. I've heard a bunch about this place and it was delicious. Not only were the tacos delicious but we really enjoyed the chips and salsa.
NEW AUTHENTIC MEXICAN RESTAURANT 🔥🙌🏼 I highly recommend this spot before it gets busy!! Came here for breakfast with my family… their chilaquiles with steak was delicious. The people there were so sweet! I would definitely come back! 🙏🏻
Great food, service and atmosphere! Nice enough to dine in, and there is also a patio area if you have your dog with you. We’ll be back for sure!
Very good atmosphere when walking in, quickly greeted and got my order taken quickly and accurately. Food was really good. Best tacos ive had in a minute. The server was also very friendly
This place is LEGIT! Delicious, very authentic and traditional Mexican food… you will not be disappointed. I had the Chili Verde plate, my daughter had the Albondigas soup, my husband had the tacos 🌮 (ON FRESHLY MADE TORTILLAS!!!), my son had the Carne Asada Super Burrito 🌯. Everyone loved their food. I can’t wait to try more things on the menu. Oh and the service was TOP NOTCH, super friendly, we will be back. 😃
Amazing food and amazing service! Get the birria tacos. You won’t be disappointed. This is definitely my new favorite Mexican place in Thousand Oaks/ Newbury Park
This place is fantastic. Like others have said, both the service and food are amazing. The place looks great. It's kind of hidden away in the corner of the shopping center but so worth taking the effort to find it. My wife had the Mole and I had an asada burrito. Both were very good, much better than you will find at most local places. The asada had a really nice flavor and was packed with great ingredients. They don't have beer yet, but their license is supposed to come soon. The prices are really good for the quality and quantity of food you get. Give them a try and support this great local establishment.
This place was amazing. I eat at a lot of Mexican restaurants, and this one really stands out. From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming and genuinely kind. I ordered the pastor super burrito and it did not disappoint. The tortilla was fresh, the flavors were well-balanced, and the portion size was perfect without feeling heavy or greasy. Everything tasted clean and thoughtfully prepared. The prices are very reasonable for Ventura County, the interior is beautiful, and the artwork adds such a great vibe. We’ll absolutely be coming back, this is exactly the spot Newbury Park needed.
THERE FOOD IS SO GOOD!!! Their habanero hot sauce was the best I had!! Will definitely be coming again.
Just ate breakfast there the eggs were awesome and I’m not an egg eater.. We eat there every weekend. Their food is great.
Really enjoyed the delicious food and festive atmosphere at La Katrina. The fresh corn tortillas were amazingly puffy and light. I had the Chile Verde entrée which was seasoned perfectly with very tender slow cooked, smoky pork chunks. The best I've had perhaps ever.
This is a casual dining in they're beautiful restaurant or to-go counter. Order at the counter. I had the carne asada burrito and it was stuffed with meat and very delicious. Courteous friendly staff in a very clean environment.
Smells so good. Happy to see a new restaurant in this location. Staff is friendly and the food is superb.
What a great new option for excellent Mexican food in Newbury Park! Delicious, quality food! Fast and friendly service, with big portions. Cute and festive atmosphere. Big menu with lots of excellent options! My picky husband loved his steak quesadilla. My fish tacos were exceptional - definitely ordering them again! My mom’s crispy tacos looked delicious, she finished both and never normally eats that much. The kid burritos were big, my 13 year old had leftovers. And my dad’s California burrito looked great - loved the addition of French fries. Can’t wait to go back and try their breakfast burritos! Oh, and they have TVs if you’re wanting to watch a game! Highly recommend and they did NOT ask me to write this review.
It is absolutely delicious. We had the taquitos the flan and the Horchata and as I speak right now we’re going to order again because it was really really good.
That was a good burrito! Ordered a super burrito with carnitas as well as birria and pastor tacos. Everything was great, served promptly with a smile on a takeout order. The pastor had pineapple flavor which I liked, but it's something to be aware of if you don't lean that way. The carnitas super burrito had great flavor. Makes me want to go back and try a breakfast burrito!
Went there for the first time. We had their breakfast burrito with bacon, no beans. It was excellent! Salsa was right on!
The presentation of the dishes was stunning. The flavors were even better than they looked.
If you're looking for truly authentic Mexican cuisine this is the absolute spot, on a whole other level compared to the other places in TO/WLV/NP
Right off the freeway, tacos, enchiladas, tamales. Food was fantastic, friendly and quick service
New local spot in Newbury Park - awesome food, portions were great. Inside is clean and lively music. Staff is helpful and nice.
I recently visited La Katrina in Moorpark, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. The service here is top-notch—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which made the whole meal even more enjoyable. The prices are surprisingly reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, making it a great spot for both casual meals and family outings. Their tacos are a must-try: perfectly seasoned, packed with flavor, and made even better by their soft, homemade tortillas that taste fresh off the griddle. If you’re a fan of a hearty steak, La Katrina doesn’t disappoint. Their steak is tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. Pair it with one of their ice-cold beers, and you’ve got the perfect meal. Overall, La Katrina delivers an incredible dining experience with amazing service, delicious food, and great value. I’ll definitely be coming back for more tacos and that unbeatable steak!
I am not the biggest Mexican food fan, so believe me when I say this....OMG!! THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!! I am sitting in my booth leaving this review. The staff is so friendly, smiles immediately when you enter. The food has amazing flavor and the portions are BIG. Oh yes I will be back!!! We got nachos with chicken and breakfast torta
The food here is straight up legit. The albóndigas soup is next level rich, comforting, and full of deep flavor. You can tell it’s made with care and not rushed at all. The plates are loaded. Perfect rice and beans, a solid enchilada, and tacos that hit hard. Fresh ingredients, handmade tortillas, and everything seasoned exactly how it should be. Nothing bland, nothing overdone. Great service, chill atmosphere, and the food comes out hot and fresh.
Holy frijole!!! Finally a Mexican food restaurant that I am absolutely proud of. The service to the house made everything. The food and drinks was freshly made. I ordered a couple quesabirria tacos and an al pastor “regular” taco with a side of frijoles (beans). Let me tell you, DELICIOUS, every bite of everything I tried. The chips and salsa were on point. The Quesabirria tacos came with a side of consumé (IYKYK). The al pastor Taco has pineapple in it, very traditional. The side of beans were impeccable. And real silverware! 5 stars. Can’t wait to come back for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I’ll be coming back here for sure. Incredible staff , spotlessly clean, very hard-working employees. Anything you need they bring to your table and speaking of tables…these are the most beautiful tables and chairs I’ve ever seen. This restaurant used to be Rubio‘s, which is a chain restaurant. La Katrina makes chilaquiles that you can eat all day long, not just for breakfast! We also had the chili Rieno burrito, which was excellent. The only place I could find that kind of food was in LA and their salsas are incredible. Also everything fresh and clean and delicious. YUMMMOOO I’m so thankful this place was mentioned on next-door.com. I’m so happy. I caught the post because I was driving all the way into Oxnard to have this kind of good food.
Food was absolutely delicious. Kids got a quesadilla and Beef Taco, Wife got the Chicken Flautas and I got the Carne Asada Plate. Service was amazing and they treated us with such kindness from every employee we interacted with. We will definitely be back.
Super friendly service and great Mexican food!
Really good food, staff were super friendly. Very impressed!
To tell you everything was very delicious!!! I’m so full lol 🫶🙌, service very attentive!! Please come take a bite!
Highly recommend this place. Clean, comfortable, and welcoming, with friendly staff and excellent service. The food is delicious, and the service is fast. This place is located in Newbury Park.

Super friendly service and great Mexican food!
Really good food, staff were super friendly. Very impressed!
I wish I could give this restaurant MORE than 5 stars! We went in at 9pm, one hour before closing, we were never rushed. We were greeted with enthusiasm and smiles. The menu has many options, I asked for a recommendation and ordered the steak, chicken & shrimp fajitas. The food was delicious, but what really impressed me beyond belief were the HANDMADE tortillas! I had not had such delicious tortillas since my mother passed. My friend ordered enchiladas and a chile relleno, also very tasty! The portions are generous so we took our leftovers to go. Another thing that I noticed from the moment we walked in was how many employees were cleaning, sweeping, wiping the tables & chairs, behind the counter, everywhere! It was impressive that there is a Mexican restaurant in this area with a different, fresh feel! As we left, we said goodbye to Victor (manager) and he thanked us for coming in and asked how we enjoyed the food. It was spectacular! We will, without a doubt, be going back. This is now a place that will be in regular rotation. Please stop by and support this business, we need to keep places like this in our neighborhood. Gracias, amigos!
Excellent customer service. Even better food. Very authentic Mexican food. Had the chicken milaneza and flautas. Very good. Highly recommend the mole de pollo. They have very good, fresh, handmade tortillas
Delicious food, best tortillas! I’ve been 5 times now and have loved everything I order, tastes homemade and always perfect. Steak fajitas and queso dip have been my favorites so far. Love the gorgeous wall mural, kind and attentive staff and comfortable/spacious seating. Looking forward to trying everything on the menu!
What a beautiful restaurant! Service was excellent, portions bountiful and my plate looked like a painting, so colorful and absolutely delicious. I wish all good things for this new restaurant.
We each thought the entree we ordered was delicious. We had a tostada, a taco supreme and a chicken burrito. The ice tea was nice too. Nice atmosphere, we were on the patio. Clean and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and helpful too. Definitely eating at La Katrina again. 🤩
Top notch in my opinion. Food was perfect. (Breakfast burrito) Salsa has flavor as well as texture and chips were fresh. Wall mounted TV's. Very cozy. Authentic. Server and cook were very wholesome.
We ordered tacos - delicious. Flavorful and tender meats and soft tortillas. Great price, too. Will def be back soon.
Heard and read so many good things about this place that I had to try it. Got 4 tacos (asada, al pastor, pollo, carnitas) and all were delicious. As I was leaving they had an extra Chili Relleno and asked if I wanted to take it. It was delicious. Their refried beans and rice are superior to many other places.

Great Service • Delicious food!
Great food and service. But was charged a little fee for using credit card. Would have appreciated if it was explicitly told.
We got burritos, they were large and made well. The flavor was lacking a little but the food was cooked well and you get good value for your money.
The restaurant is across from PetSmart and Panda Express. You can see the sign from the main road, but once you turn into the lot, it’s easy to miss because it’s tucked behind a tree in the corner. There was plenty of parking near the entrance when we visited it on their second day open. There was no sign saying it was cash only, so it was a surprise when it came time to pay. Luckily, we had cash, but that’s something to be aware of and we hope they changed that to cash and card. The portions are large and filling. The quesadilla was full of ingredients and very flavorful. The breakfast burrito was also a good size but tasted average compared to other Mexican places in the area. Not bad, just not the standout item. They didn’t have fountain drinks, which some might expect when visiting, but they did sell bottled and house made options. I ordered the hibiscus tea, which was listed under another name, and it turned out really good once I asked what it was. The menu setup was a bit confusing. There’s a screen that showed only part of the menu, and it didn’t list descriptions of what the dishes actually are. The full printed menu had more items, but still no explanations. If you’re not familiar with Mexican dish names, you’ll probably need to ask what things are. Most of the staff were friendly but still learning about the menu items and what they entail, so the owner stepped in to explain the items and handle payment. The prices are higher than expected from a new resturant in this spot. The seating was comfortable and the atmosphere was relaxed. The owner and staff were kind and checked in a few times to make sure everything was right. The food came out fairly quickly, and overall it was a pleasant visit

Food was very good. Chicken enchiladas were very good. Chili relleno was good, however we have never had it with small blocks of unmelted cheese. Service was great. Festive music and a couple of tvs with soccer playing. Fresh homemade tortillas, which was a pleasant surprise. A little pricey, quick serving and chips/salsa are served with every meal.

Large plates nice size chicken enchiladas with a small ice cream scoop of rice. Enchiladas were watery. Not a big Mexican food guy but been to my share of restaurants. Wasn’t impressed also the salsa was a tad hot/spicy with little to no onions and tomatoes.
The food is too expensive for what you get. The tacos were greasy. The Carnitas had no flavor. The chicken was OK.. I asked for a print out of my receipt and they gave me my credit card receipt. I’m pretty sure they overcharged me eight dollars as I total up what I bought was less than what they charged me.. wasn’t a terrible experience, but definitely quality of food was not worth the money. They have pretty murals on the wall and bright colors they have beer. I don’t know if they had any other alcoholic beverages, but I won’t be going back.
They're unable to take/fulfill orders correctly. Today was my second visit for a take-out, in-person order. Again they gave me wrong items. The food is acceptable but could be better.
Bldg big seating area inside and out Freshly painted great murals Nice new sturdy furniture Took order at table and delivered food but that's where the service stopped. Had to go to counter to ask when we needed help Wine and beer selection very limited Red sauce w chips spicy chips are thin and break easily Small guac was huge but little flavor Chili relleno burrito and chili relleno combo w rice beans little flavor and cheese not melted inside. Forgot to ask for verde sauce on relleno combo and was too late when I inquired but was give a bowl of verde, which was a nice touch. The ranchero sauce was so bland. Prefer to see check B4 pay. Had to go to counter to ask for ck and was told amount and dude watched me add tip. Very uncomfortable experience. Also service charge for credit card. Doubt we'll return.

Extremely unorganized.. they are understaffed. They need a better system when taking orders. Waitress need to be more welcoming and attentive.
I really wanted to like it, but my bacon and egg burrito was full of undercooked bacon and gristle.
