Born and raised in the city of Orange, I’ve spent 42 years thinking I knew every hidden gem, hole-in-the-wall, and suspiciously trendy coffee shop within a ten-mile radius. Yet somehow — despite living just seven miles away — I had no clue we had a local steakhouse. Fast forward four decades of blissful ignorance, and a high school friend casually drops this culinary bombshell on me: “Wait… you’ve NEVER been to the steakhouse?” Naturally, I grabbed my family and sped over faster than you can say “medium rare.” We were greeted by a server who has apparently worked there for forty years — yes, forty — which is almost as long as I’ve been alive and completely clueless about this place. When we sheepishly admitted we’re locals who had no idea this restaurant existed, she looked at us like we’d just told her we’d never heard of oxygen. Then the food came out, and let me tell you… it felt like home. There’s a reason they’ve been in business this long — they’re that good.

A charming blast from the past, Tartan Room Steak House, is tucked away in a bustling shopping center in the City of Orange. It's a delightful nod to dining elegance since 1959, and I recently enjoyed a splendid lunch experience there. The vibe is both classic and cozy, with plush leather seating complementing the dimly lit ambiance, creating an inviting den reminiscent of a bygone era. I ordered the Chef’s Special Steak and Onion Soup, and it was nothing short of a culinary delight. The steak was cooked to perfection—juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. Paired with the rich and savory French Onion Soup, it made for a meal that satisfied both my taste buds and my nostalgia for hearty, traditional fare. This hidden gem welcomes guests with open arms, offering gorgeous cuts of prime rib, stiff drinks, and a sprinkle of cheeky banter that makes the dining experience all the more enjoyable. It's a perfect place for friends, family, or anyone wanting to step into a time where the focus was pure quality and comfort-driven dining. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Tartan Room is a delightful escape into classic dining, bringing a taste of Scotland to the heart of Orange. Definitely a must-visit for steak lovers and those who appreciate a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Great food, classy yet upbeat ambiance. A must try for that 1950s midcentury luxury vibe. Service was professional, quick, and attentive. Food was delicious, delivered as ordered, and in a timely manner. Room had booths perfect for dining but also a large bar with cocktail tables and live band area. Dining area was intimate but great lighting for photos. Menu had a great selection of meats and seafood with a handful of offerings for each. Buon Appetito, Piatto Pulito 😋

The Tartan Room reminds me of an old-school late hours club. I've always loved the vibe here. No windows, red leather snugs, and bar. The dining area is private and cozy. There are a ton of locals that go here and know each other as well. Drinks are not crazy expensive. I usually come for drinks, but we decided to have dinner. Lindsay was our bartender that night and a great host! I was craving pasta and ordered the shrimp pasta. I personally would have liked more garlic in the pasta, but that is just my personal preference. My date had the Filet with twice baked potato. I really did enjoy the Caesar salad. Very fresh, and the dressing was addictive. We skipped dessert. We were too full at that point. I appreciate that their martinis are not crazy expensive. We paid $10 roughly for Titos. Tuesday, they have a Titos night and discount, and Wednesday, they have a discount on bottled wine. All the employees there are friendly and all about service. Laura and Nick are also great bartenders! See you guys next time!

Surprised I had never been here being it opened over 40 years ago. It's in my opinion very cool kind of old school dark with high back booths steak house with a bar and a band at least on the weekend. This Friday night had a cool 70ies music playing. The volume level of the music was just right, not over powering so it's possible to carry on a conversation easily. The food was top notch. I had the medallions of beef with twice baked potato and it came out fine. Will return with friends when we feel like a good nostalgia evening and try some drinks this time.

I thought it was just a bar. Very pleasant surprise. Liked the atmosphere, live music and service was good. Ryan was very attentive. It was busy. Parking is a challenge. We sat in the banquet room and had a great view of the live music. I tried the prime rib with twice baked potato and salad. Loved the Bleu cheese dressing. Potato was a bit dry, so will have the regular baked potato next time. Hubby had the ribs, onion rings and soup (clam chowder). Portions are good and prices are reasonable. Will be our go to for date night and anniversaries.

Service was a little slow but Understandable. Kenny seemed to be caring for all the tables, was very cordial , attentive & friendly Music selections perfect mix of Rock n Roll with some Oldies Restaurant was very cold Very, Very reasonably priced Definitely returning

If you love prime rib, fun entertainment and great service, then the Tartan Room is the place to go! The prime rib is like butter, seasoned well and melts in your mouth. The entertainment is fun and the service is fantastic.

I’m from Philly, but I’ve been hearing about the Tartan Room for the last 4 years from a friend who lives locally. Naturally, it HAD to be my first stop during my week in Orange County. Over the 8 days I was in town, I visited the TR three separate times. This place is a delicacy! It is rare for me to find a restaurant where I am interested in everything in the menu. The portions are generous and everything is reasonably priced. I highly recommend the Chicken Diablo. This was a new dish for me and I ordered it twice. I also thoroughly enjoyed the grilled calamari - it’s so much better than fried! The staff was beyond welcoming. Every employee was friendly and provided top of the line service. I felt like I was visiting extended family. I love everything about the place - the ambiance, the menu, the quality, and the staff. I can’t wait to be back!

Finally getting around to writing a review. Spent a memorable evening celebrating a milestone birthday. First and foremost, the entertainment was outstanding. Mr. Gavin Braun truly enhanced this special night. What a talent! We will return to the Tartan Room every time when Mr. Braun performs. The atmosphere is perfect. Our dinner was exceptional. The prime rib and filet was delicious. All of the side dishes complimented our entrees. The cocktails were top shelf. The wait staff was attentive and very friendly. Thank you for a memorable evening and please let us know when Mr. Braun is performing again.

The Tartan Room in Nohl Plaza...who knew? I am embarrassed to admit I've driven past the Tartan Room maybe 2-3 times each week for the past 6 years. Saw it, but had no idea what was behind the front door. Had no idea until a good friend suggested we eat there this past week. The Tartan Room is a "gem". The staff goes over the top to cater to your every need, and the menu is prepared with culinary delight beyond belief. I had the evening special "Chicken Sinatra," and couldn't believe I was eating chicken. The Tartan Room is located off to the side, just down from the Bank of America, up against the Ford dealership across the parking lot. It is well worth the trip, and you will not be disappointed.

Great food!!! Awesome Elvis singer. Classy place for those who appreciate a casual fine dining. Recommend a must for those ' old schoolers' of classy restaurants of days gone buy. Top notch all the way.

Used Google Assistant to make a reservation for 5. That worked very well. When we arrived, they had a table ready for us. Everyone who served us, from initial host (or manager, not sure), to server, food delivery person, and busser, were all positive and attentive. The food was great and priced just right. I had the Texas style prime rib and the flavor/taste was awesome. It really is a different taste than normal prime rib. The beef stroganoff was awesome (better than my mom's). It had what seemed to be a wine based sauce (I could be wrong) on it, which made the flavor so good. The filet, shared by two folks, got great praise. I didn't try it, so can't give personal comment. But, here's why I really loved the Tartan Room. Authentic, old. Which is great. This is not a downgrade comment. The interior is not some faked up, modern retero chain restaurant. Tartan Room has genuine dark lighting, red dining booths and a bar. It's all real. It's simple. It keeps it real and the prices manageable (guess). Geez, it's even got a nondescript front door in a strip mall, which is double awesome. These types of places are *so* rare now. To the owners: as long as possible, don't change the environment and do a bunch of hip or modern upgrades. Keep it as is. To top it off, live music. This was an unexpected treat. When the band, The Killer West, was setting up, we had no idea what we were going to hear. Turned out, it was perfect. 3-piece (guitar, upright bass, and percussion). I don't know how to describe the exact genre, but I loved it. Felt like a mix of blues, jazz, surf, and maybe some 50s rock, or rockabilly. I was thinking Robert Cray, hints of Dick Dale, Chris Isaac guitar. The drummer sang, played harmonica, maracas, and drums...wow. The band was really tight and all are great musicians. I could have listened much longer, but family had to get going. I'll certainly come back to the Tartan Room to eat, drink and listen to The Killer West.

Excellent choices of food. The Double Tornados are awesome! It is my first time dining at this place yet it made me feel very welcome and at home. Maggie is very good at what she does serving tables. She is kind of entertaining too as well as all of the staff. Live music starts at 19:30. If you want to get a table and be seated on time, reservation is a must.

Great food. Great service. There's a reason why they've been an OC favorite for 60 years. Never had a bad meal yet. Favorite appetizer: bacon wrapped shrimp. The prime rib is a must have, but be aware, some of their specialties can run out on busy nights. Note that the kitchen closes before the full bar. If your planning on dining late, call first.

Have happy hour . Small dinning area Nice bar area. Has been open since 1959 &,we have enjoyed dining their off and on for years. All food is cooked and presented just as you asked for. Staff is friendly . A place to go for adult dinning but have small dining area sperate from bar where older pre teen and teenage could eat with you. Expensive for every day eating. Small but great food and drinks. It's a great place for dark and intimate dinning.

Wow! One would never guess the food they serve here at the Tartan Room! We found it based upon reviews and it lived up to the reviews. We had the bacon wrapped shrimp. Delicious! Along with the bone in rib eye. Excellent. Wait staff (Sarah) was great! If I lived here it would be in my food rotation. Stop in a give a try! I think you would be surprised.

I must say, this place is a hidden gem! The atmosphere is low light classy Sinatra feel. The waiting staff is professional and attentive (Janie was a delight!) And the food was delicious. I had the filet mignon with the twice baked potato. Highly recommend, 5 solid stars!

Took my girlfriend here for her birthday. Service was awesome. Food was great. Kind of an old school dive bar feel. Priced reasonable for what you get. The only thing I could say anything negative about was the bread and twice baked potato. The potato was good just seemed like it was made along time ago. The bread I am used to having is soft and a little crunchy. To me it seemed like it was mabe old and they where trying to reheat it. Not sure but my girl felt the same. Still a 5 star and will return. Huge portón.

Great restaurant with bar and live music!!! Drink @ $8 and nice happy hour menu. Sliders, salad and bottle of wine ($14) $30 We shared and the other bill was $30 also sliders, stuffed avacados (1 whole avocado) and fried ice cream (missing the chocolate sauce)

It's a romantic setting. Staff and regulars are very good in explaining what the dish taste like since I don't like vinegar. It is so worth the price. And I love that it is an adult setting

Old school cocktail lounge & restaurant. If you're looking for polish and glitz go somewhere else. But if you want good food, good drinks, and friendly people. This is the place to be. Sit at the bar and have appetizers with friends. A knowledgeable bartender, + good food + reasonable prices = good value.

This is a place you can love forever. Delicious food, yummy cocktails, great entertainment. The dark late 60’s decor (complete with light glitter in the ceilings’ acoustic), paired with Elvis belting out the tunes, takes me back to a better time. Please visit the tiny OC gem and comment your thoughts!

Amazing prime rib. I love to sit at the bar. The bartender is always so nice. Every once in awhile there will be some entertainment when I am here for some prime rib. I also love Roquefort Bleu cheese dressing, and they have it here as well. Very reasonable prices.

Tartan Room is the bomb!! Best food, drinks, service and entertainment in OC. I almost don't want to compliment it too much as it's always been my hidden gem for the last 50 years. The service is stellar and Kenny goes above and beyond anyone's expectations! I could go on and on but like I said it's the best kept secret outside of Orange. The only thing that I was disappointed in is the carrot cake...way too much frosting and it's sweetly disgusting and hardly any cake, the cake to frosting ratio is 15% cake 85% frosting. Icky! Anyway loved the jazz trio and the place was packed with the awesome ambiance it always has!! See you on Sunday in 2 weeks for the secret (not so secret) fried chicken dinner 😋

Well it was so good to enjoy the Food, Service and Atmosphere here again after being away from here so long with medical issues. 'The Clam Chowder and the Steamed Clams in garlic herb broth' was Excellent As Always. The girls Loved 'The Fish Sandwich Combo' It was a nice time first outing for me after so long and We All Really Enjoyed It. I can hardly to get back in the groove here...... Definitely a must on your places to dine out ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A nice place for a relaxing evening and great service and liked the live entertainment a lot. The steak 🥩 and 🦞 were delicious. Very private and darkened room. It is great to see restaurant from a bygone era. I had a memorable experience. I didn't think food this good still existed and it was at a reasonable price. Now most places run you in and out no privacy and experience and food are horrible. This is place where you can spend time enjoying your food. Nowadays most restaurants want you to inhale you food and demand big tips. I like to take my time and enjoy the experience and the food. This is the place you can do that. Most of the people my age can't cut their steak or figure out how to eat crab legs or lobster 🦞. They are out the door in 15 minutes and complain. I had a great time. It is a nice place to go to.

The food is fantastic well seasoned and cooked perfectly. this is a hidden gem in Orange most folks don’t know about this place which is the way I like it. But come here to eat and have some drinks. Loved this place! I have lived in Orange County for 28 years and I've driven by this place HUNDREDS of times and never knew it existed. Great food, incredible vibe, tremendous happy hour, and fantastic service. I had the king cut prime rib, and I felt like Fred Flintstone! Huge piece of meat and very good. Sides were great too...excellent whiskey selection with Eagle Rare at reasonable prices!

Lyn at the bar is the best. She learned and remembered my name even though I've only visited twice. The medallion steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. The clientele are warm and open to chatting about any topic. Cliff is always on his spot and ready to visit. I love this place! Highly recommeded!

I have enjoyed steaks all over So Cal. From the cheapest options to the priciest and the Tartan Room competes with the best of them. The prime rib is thick, juicy, and oh so perfect. The chop steak with mushrooms was excellent and very generous portions. Salads were fresh and thinking about the bread is making my mouth water right now. This is now our new favorite spot for steaks and looking forward to trying the seafood options. Cant forget to mention the service was ABSOLUTELY amazing! Every single person we interacted with was considerate and so attentive. I can not rave enough about the Tartan Room. It is a must...

Recently I was treated to a wonderful dinner at this hidden gem of a restaurant. The food was delicious, the staff was very helpful and friendly. What a find. Low expectations when I saw the place but I couldn't have been more wrong. The food was excellent (try the bacon wrapped asparagus), our waitress couldn't have been friendlier or more professional and the atmosphere was really nice. A GREAT place for a delicious, quiet, intimate meal.

We were recently turned onto the Tartan Room. It has become an instant favorite. The food is great, the drinks are strong, and the service is amazing. We have gone 3 times and each time, there was a band or singer, which really separates this dining experience from most other restaurants. If you're looking for a good time, along with dinner and drinks, this is the spot.

Well, thanks to the negative review on Facebook and all the humor that went with it ,I went there tonight with my family for the very first time. We were all very impressed with the food. The waitress Linda R. was very accommodating along with the other gentlemen who were helping and serving. We had better service in this restaurant than I had in any other establishment in a very long time. The food was fresh and delicious. Two of us had the shrimp wrapped in bacon. My nephew had the chicken piccata and my brother had the Caesar salad. Everything was fresh and delicious. We had to take to go boxes because there was a lot of food. my sister-in-law and I each had a Cadillac margarita. It was perfect. Unfortunately you can’t make everyone happy however for us going here for the first time was a wonderful experience. It’s a little out-of-the-way for us but we will be back.

I've heard good things about The Tartan Room from friends and family over the years but it always slipped my mind for some reason when it came to selecting a restaurant for a special occasion. What a super dinner experience we had tonight! Great service! Great food! Super clean and exceeded our expectations in all ways! Don't go anywhere else without giving this gem a try first! We celebrated my sweethearts 60th birthday here tonight and it was awesome! Thank you Tartan Room! The steaks were the best we have ever had in Orange County at a reasonably affordable price. You definitely get more than you pay for here!

STOPPED IN HERE FOR LUNCH WITH A FEW COWORKERS. ITS JUST LIKE THE TARTAN ROOM IN REDLANDS. VERY DARK AND OLD SKOOL BOOTHS. I DIDN’T GET ANY PHOTOS OF THE FOOD BECAUSE WE WERE ALL HUNGRY AND WERE RUNNING LATE TO OUT NEXT MEETING. EXCELLENT SERVICE AND FOOD 😋 WAS ON 🔥 💣 Give it a try when you’re in the area.

Its easy to see why this place has lasted decades. It has amazing food and you literally forget what decade it is once you go through their door. Its an old school steak house with great food and a staff that has been there for generations (many of them). Pretty awesome to have this close to home.

The meal started with basket of rolls. This was actually the worst part of the dinner. I wish they would serve sourdough rolls or bread. The rolls were tasteless. Then we had a dinner salad. These were good, mixed fresh greens and cucumbers and tomatoes. I had the queen cut prime rib and a twice baked potato. My sister had a steak and a baked potato. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and was tender and delicious. My sister’s steak was tender as well. I liked twice baked potato but I have had better. We ordered a side of mushrooms. They were good but were almost too well done. I did not take any photos. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant. I would definitely return for the prime rib!

¿nunca has ido al asador?"

No tomé fotos.

Buon Appetito, Piatto Pulito 😋

I would recommend the Tartan Room for to any who has never been. The Service was excellent. Our Waiter Ryan H was very attentive and courteous. The atmosphere was very nice; restroom is very clean. The food was delicious. The only drawback was the steak my wife ordered, it was bland and had no salt or seasoning, that twice baked potato is the BEST... If you love steak give Tartan Room a try and thank you Ryan H for the best service and experience.

Old school style atmosphere and decore add to the wonderful ambiance of the venue. A rather attractive and elegant blonde woman politely acknowledged us and, within a few minutes, had us seated at our table. We enjoyed excellently prepared and presented entrees; Trout Almondine and Calamari Steaks sautéed in garlic butter and capers. The entrees were served with fresh vegetables and we chose the Twice Baked Potato option. Very few venues offer Calamari Steaks, my favorite presentation and preparation. The fried Calamari strip appetizer is also a favorite. This was last Saturday evening around 6 pm. Restaurant had live entertainment and was full of patrons. It appeared that the service staff in general was pleasant and efficient. However, our particular server seemed a bit absent-minded and slow. I ordered my accompanying salad with Bleu Cheese dressing. It was served with ranch dressing. The server took the salad away to correct the mistake. My sister was able to almost finish her salad before I had mine returned to me. When returned, it had ranch on it, again! I decided, what the heck, and just ate it anyway. Everything else about our meal and visit was excellent. The live entertainment was a talented solo performer that provided pleasant background music for the entire restaurant and bar at a perfect volume level. I highly recommend this dining spot!

Established in 1958!!! If your looking for a truly old school and iconic steakhouse with a casual and cool atmosphere (dimly lit and red booths) and strong cocktails this is the place for you! Great service, and most importantly great Prime Rib!

Old School Super Club vibe, with a SoCal twist.

I can't say the place was bad, but it has an, for lack of a better word please excuse me, older vibe. Though I think that was because of the Elvis impersonator who was singing, loudly. Honestly I was worn between 3 and 5 stars. The food was pretty good, atmosphere was warmly inviting, and the music was nice; at first. It was far too loud which kept me from going 5 stars and the variety got old quickly. It was cozy though and the food was good so I couldn't give it 3 stars. I would aim for a both behind the wall, it was much quieter yet still too loud. I shouldn't have to raise my voice to talk to the person next to me. Like I said though its cool at first in a corny way.

My first time, had petite filet, twice baked potato and a great salad! A bit pricy, but worth every dollar! Sara, our server, was attentive, very friendly, Sara was the best! Thank you Sara

Great food, good service, GREAT band. Cocktails perfectly strong. Atmosphere dated but still fun dancing in the bar. Clientele seem to be 40+.

Happy hour is 3-6 for drinks. House wine, domestic beer and well drinks. Food HH was 4-6 with specific menu. We had the shrimp on Avo for like $8 and the quesadilla for about the same $8. Both were tasty. Dark ambiance for an older crowd but we're early to mid 30s and liked it. They were setting up for live music on Wednesday but we didn't stay.

Old school steak joint with stiff drinks and good service. The decor is dated, but the food and live music on the weekends makes up for it.

Loved our server, the food was just ok. Bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer was yummy, I had rosemary chicken which tasted fine, but the piece of chicken was kinda mangled and tough. Hubby has fish and chips - said it tasted fine.

Nice atmosphere for a bar night or a casual dinner. Food was great. We had the bacon wrapped shrimp as an appetizer and they were delicious. Prime rib was excellent. Service was good and the wait staff does a superb job checking up on you. The bar side can get a bit busy and loud at times, but there is a decent divider for most of the dining area where you can have a low light romantic atmosphere. Note that the kitchen does not open for dinner until 5, so you do not want to show up before then unless you plan to hang at the bar first.

I had only one problem w my finger. I ordered the jumbo deep fried shrimp. It was extremely tough like I couldn't even eat the shrimp. I had rice w it and the rice was great. My mom got ribs and they were absolutely perfect! Just the shrimp. The waitress only charged me half price which was very nice of her!

Great live music, we had good consistent service before our whole party arrived and after. Variety of options to choose from *(Bacon Wrapped Shrimp, King Crab, Vegetable Soup, Clam Chowder). If you are looking for a fun lively place to let loose I would check this place out.

Definitely go to this place if you are wanting an older crowd vibe with 70s music. I went here for a birthday party and my mom loved it! It was right up her alley. The place is small and get SUPER crowded during peak hours. Its first come, first serve because they don't take reservations for parties less than 10. The food was delicious, I enjoyed the twice baked potato! Parking sucks, so get there early!

We like to come here for the food and the live music. Unfortunately there wasn't any live music this time we came but it was lunchtime. It's kind of dark inside, more like a bar but we don't drink and still enjoy it.

First timer here. Let me start by saying the inside atmosphere does not match the outside. From the outside you would not be able to tell what you were about to walk into. I would have assumed it would have dark creepy bar vibes but to my surprise it was a very nice bar. There was a lot of seating in the bar area or off to the side. There is also an open room which you could have a small semi-private party. To my surprise the food here was pretty good. There was everything from pasta to steak to prime rib and fish. At my table we ordered a cheeseburger with fries, open face prime rib sandwich, open face prime rib sandwich with onion rings, and also the bone-in pork chop entree. Everything was actually very delicious. I would say my favorite thing of the entire night was actually the food. Everything was flavorful and delicious. My table ordered 4 alcoholic beverages from the bar.... 2 of them were extremely weak and the other 2 drinks were average. Although I absolutely love the live music here, the magician was amazing, it was a bit too loud. By the time I was done with my meal and left, my throat hurt from yelling during my conversations at my table. That's not a fun feeling but I guess this could just be a personal preference type of issue. If you're coming here with a group in which you want to drink and be in more of a fun party Vibe then definitely hit this place up. If you're coming here on a date night I would say don't. Just because you cannot have a conversation in here while the music is on. Overall I would say if you have not tried this restaurant then definitely give it a go because the food was delicious. If I was reading this restaurant on food alone it would have gotten four stars but due to all the other factors and only got three.

B
Bill Patterson

Had the prime and twice baked potato. The prime steak was tough but a good flavor. Potato was pretty good. The time I came in service was really fast.

E
Earl Maijala

Food was good for the price, which means value. If that's your priority in dining than this is your place. Hostess was very pushy as I arrived a few minutes before a couple others, and our fourth about 10 minutes later. She wouldn't seat us until everyone was there. Weird rules. She tried to explain the reason why, but the reality is they rely on volume and the faster they come move people in and out of there the better for them. Not going back

S
Susan Sarna

Food is generally good. Bread is dry, vegetables usually overcooked. Happy hour is pretty good. Hopefully they will go back to the bigger menu for dinner. Many evenings there is music. Unfortunately it's frequently too loud for conversation or dinner. One of the night managers can be a jerk. Unfortunately the management after Mass died is very poor. Staff moral is bad. These people just don't really know how to run a place like this.

B
Big Jim

First of all let me say that I have only been here for week day lunches. So this will be my review of that. They recently changed their menu a few old favorites are not on it anymore. But if you ask they will still make it for you. I don't know how long that will last. But the food here is good and prices are fair. The only negative I have to offer is the painfully slow service. Don't try to stop by for lunch if you're on the clock or need to be somewhere soon. This is always a very slow place to eat. We only stop by if work is done for the day. Oh and they charge for soda refills! Who does that anymore???

We went for my parent's 52nd wedding anniversary. The good was good but the service could be improved. From the beginning, the server told us she was very busy. Apparently, it became our problem because she lacked in service.

G
Glenn Gregersen

The staff was very nice and warm. They seemed to go out of their way to smile and make you feel comfortable when you walk in. The drinks were also delicious although the beer selection was lacking any decent local craft beers. So why 3 stars? Well, the food certainly was not what I would expect for the price. We got the Prime Rib, Double Tornadoes and the 12oz New York. I'm told the Prime Rib was ok. Not to memorable. The double Tornadoes, 1 was delicious the other was way too heavy on the char. The New York was so disappointing that I compared it to ordering a steak at Norms. A rather overpriced one at that. It was bland, a heavy char that makes me think they pressed on the steak and it was overcooked. That said, it wasn't so bad that I sent it back. I was hungry, so I just left feeling upset about the price to quality ratio. We might go back... To the bar. Enjoy the good drinks and friendly staff. If I try the food again, maybe I'll try the chicken piccata...at a steakhouse.

Service and atmosphere were impeccable. Prime rib was a bit undercooked but the lobster was phenomenal. Update: When asked how I wanted my Prime Rib cooked I stated medium rare so a rare prime rib would be considered a bit undercooked.

N
Nadya Kosareff

This place has good food and nice staff. It's very dark inside. From the name, you'd think it's a Scottish restaurant, but it's much more country music. It's basically a local bar with nice steaks that attracts a much older crowd. I am rating it lower because the ac is set to 72, and there are no fans for air movement. If you need circulation, especially in the colder months when everyone is sick and spreading germs, this is not the place for you.

D
David P

The whole time I was there I just kept getting flashbacks to the television show Threes Company and felt like I was at the regal beagle. Definitely an older place. The food was OK. My fillet was a little bit overdone but still had good flavor. Service was good to be honest not my kind of place, but I was with a group.

L
Lawrence Williams

I love this place but it's become too expensive. Big cut of prime rib is now $48 (2025). Just a few years ago it was $31. I get it, inflation. But that's 55% increase in just three years!

R
Richard Stember

The Elvis impersonator was great! Steak - just so so. If you're looking for an old school bar this is the place. I felt like we were back in the 50's on the (Las Vegas) strip or maybe Atlantic City waiting for Dean Martin to show up.

G
Gina P

It's an interesting place! Obviously been in the community a long time. Food was good, but prices were very high for what you are getting. The main proteins we all got were very good, but the sides unfortunately left quite a bit to be desired. And I beg this restaurant and indeed, ALL restaurants that have live bands, please LOWER THE VOLUME! I have never understood why the decibel level is set to deafening every time a live band performs in a restaurant. I am there to eat and enjoy the company of the people I am with, not shout over the keyboards. It isn't enjoyable and a restaurant would never play their piped music that loud so why the band music? I'm sorry, I may be picking on the Tartan Room because they had their band playing when I was there, but it just detracts from the overall experience.

I'm writing to complain about the worst service in recent memory. This is a classic American dinner house and the food is always good. I go here to celebrate a birthday with s friend, as is common for many years. Good variety of sandwiches and salads. But, you are charged $2 for every soda refill so beware. Be prepared to wait a looking time for Debbie to take your order, and an even longer time for drink orders, and even longer for your check! Saddest thing, it wasn't busy today. Too bad for the excellent chef.

R
Ray Stratton

Thanksgiving dinner. Disappointing. Seated in the invisible section. No drinks no bread. Had to chase down the host. Turkey dinner without gravy? Food was just ok. Next year we go elsewhere. Not worth the cost.

T
TOKINFOIN

Not really a place to have a delicious meal, prices too high for what you get. My first and last at this place, trying to celebrate birthday. No tan tops. Response from owner. So this was your first time here, and you were asked to leave because you walked in here wearing a tank top like you're Vin Diesel. Our dress code, clearly posted on our website and on our front door when you walked in, aren’t suggestions. No tank tops (not tan tops btw) means no tank tops. It's not our fault you tried to walk in dressed like a Jersey Shore extra. Find a shirt with sleeves on it next time, and stop blaming us. Reply from Google guide. "I understand your policy regarding the dress code. My review was about the way the situation was handled, not the policy itself. Regardless, thank you for your response." Do not get upset. It would be a great idea to have courtesy shirts just in case and a new chef. This is not a 5 star restaurant.

M
Michael Cox

This place is a horror show. Food quality, service, and cleanliness are nonexistent here. The smell of bad food and bathroom fumes are immediately noticeable as soon as you walk in. An utter failure.

Had a pretty bad experience. Been here a few times, usually good when I was here solo and just had a filet. I got rosemary chicken… the chicken seemed like it was boiled and had a condensed can of chicken broth thrown over it. It was seriously disgusting. Like it was really really bad. My mom’s steak wasn’t all that great either. My nieces filet was blue/raw and had to be sent back to be cooked more. Still tipped the guy pretty well, I’m sure it wasn’t his fault. First time coming in with a few people, probably wouldn’t do it again. I own a company that deals with online reviews and based on some of the responses here for other negatives, I’d assume whoever’s dealing with addressing these concerns could care less. That rosemary chickens shot out and needs to be made better or taken off your menu.

So I celebrated my wedding anniversary there on March 17, 2021 I had the rudest waitress to me and my wife on our special day I chose the Tartan room for the steak the reviews and mainly the singing. Luckily the bartender helped us out who happened to be so nice and we actually talked to one of the owners/managers name is Stephen probably see me they would never happen again they made it up to us. But today May 1, 2021 I take my mom there and my wife for an early Mother’s Day dinner and yet once again a male bartender was so rude and he asked of the rudest town can I help you and I said yeah sure you can help us.It was so bothered he took a toll and he also mentioned “I’m gonna give it back to you how you gave it to me” I said no sir I’m not trying to be rude I’m just trying to dine in here me and my mother and my wife feel so uncomfortable especially my mother that we just left even though dinner is not till five but he could be an a lot more better customer service. I like to let the owners now watch out with your waiters and waitresses and bartenders and staff is doing because that’s your business that they are destroyed we went to another restaurant and spent nearly $200 that could’ve been money that we spent over there or if they were a lot more nicer courteous we would’ve had a few drinks there until dinner time but that was just completely unacceptable. You’re my wife to say that when we do use. Our gift certificate will be taken out. We don’t like to be places where we don’t feel we belong on How your Staff treatment.Mind you that I will assure you if you keep customer service like that and people like that rude people disrespectful people you are will go out of business

My wife and I stopped in here last night, I hadn't been here in years, but I remember great service and great steaks. The service was great but the "chefs special" steak for $22.00 was awful, bland, small, and chewy. We won't be coming back. I could have had a better cut of beef at Sizzler. Damn shame, and a waste of my hard earned money. Disgraceful.

Went there because we heard the prime rib and the ambiance was nice but when we arrived we were seated in a section next to the kitchen and the seats on the booth were worn out. We sunk down so low it was embarrassing. Our waiter was wearing a base ball cap. Really. I will never go back because of that and I will tell all my friends about that plus the meat was over cooked and horrible. Get some class of your charging such high prices.

They KEEP REMOVING THINGS FROM THEIR MENU..LIKE GARLIC TOAST..WHY? DIM.Lights A BIT, ALL OF SUDDEN ITS NOT ROMANTIC LIKE IT WAS..THEY HAD TO TAKE THEIR DECORATIONS OUT OF THE BATHROOM.DUE TO THIEVES?...LOL I SIGN OF THE CLIENTS AS OF NOW I GUESS..AFTER DECADES OF COMING HERE I FEEL THIS IS SLOWLY GOING DOWN THE TUBES..MANAGER DOESNT EVEN COME CHECK ON PATRONS ANY MORE...SHAME BY THE WAY THE CRAPPY DINNER ROLLS THAT REPLACRD THE GARLIC TOAST ARE AWEFUL!!! Instead of looking at reviews as a way to improve The owner decided to be a cry baby n bully me..n take my review very personal...business owners never do that..grow up and another thing..after all these years food is now coming out cold and either over cooked or under cooked..the nicest thing I will say is the servers work very hard and NOT very appreciated. I DONT drink so can't tell you mu h about the bar...lol wont miss this place..lol not losing any sleep over the bully comments from.the owner...Maybe John tapper from.bar rescue n teach him. ..how to take constructive criticism n take him.to a class called customer service 101

Walked in and was confused about where to get help. My party was waved over by the hostess, and we were seated it was full at this time, so wait a couple of minutes for our table. Waitress came over and offered us the specials of the day as well as the soup.. she took our drink order and walked away. We looked at the menu and picked our orders. Our drinks arrived, and orders were taken. Salads and bread came to the table. Fresh black pepper was offered, and as I enjoyed my salad, I found a hair in it. When the dinner arrived, it was flavorless. The crab on top seemed like imitation crab. The sauce was tasteless... not a good experience

S

We had high expectations after seeing the menu but it seems like this is more a neighborhood bar than a restaurant. I'm sure the drinks are spectacular!

T

Service was poor, food sat to long . Food not even warm. No flavor on steak. Veggies and potato was cold and not cooked properly. Would not recommended to anyone. Will not come back.

C

Was looking for a spot to take my Mom to lunch and we are planning a busy but casual day, so I checked out the rules to make sure we were aware of any dress code up front. I was horrified at the "Gluten Gladys" comment. I'm not really sure how we are still so comfortable with casual ableism in 2025 but here we are. Hardest of passes. Kindness is free.
