Best Quality Daughter San Antonio Reviews
Amazing dining experience. Loved the place and the service was spot on. Must get the pork belly dish, it was delicious and fun. The salt and pepper shrimp were dynamite. Cocktails were also just as good as the food, attention to detail. Not one dish was slacking, order it all and enjoy the meal!
The most delicious dinner out I have had in a while. So flavorful with everything perfectly seasoned. Everything came to the table hot. The beverages were well crafted and presented beautifully. The servers were friendly and accommodating. Great to talk to as I sat at the bar outside. I dined here while at a conference, but I'm already thinking about dining there again before I leave, and figuring out a flight back.
Lat month my wife & I finally got to try BEST QUALITY DAUGHTER. We shared a Smashed Cucumber salad, with heirloom tomatoes, cilantro, & garlic sesame dressing, some Taiwanese Popcorn Fried Chicken served with thai basil ranch, and some delicious Scallion Pancakes served with Burrata cheese & Chili Crab Jam. I tried a Singha Lager & my wife enjoyed a beautiful cocktail called "Above My Pay Grade" made with Shiso Infused Gin, Amaro Nonino, Peach Liqueur, Yuzu Juice, & Lemon Juice. For dessert we had a cute Strawberry Lychee ice cream sandwich with mint & chili honey. The service was fantastic & the dining room had a very cool vibe. My favorite dish was probably the delicious scallion pancakes. My only criticism was that the Fried Chicken could have used a little more seasoning & maybe be served with a sweet chili or spicy sauce in instead of the ranch, but I know people LOVE ranch. All in all It was a great experience & I can't wait to go back because I really wanna try their CURRY GUISADA DAN DAN & the DRUNKEN NOODLE RED CURRY MOLE.
Finally had the pleasure of dining here and I’m very happy to report it did not disappoint! Of course the area is great, but the food was better! Highly recommend sharing with the table so you can try a little bit of everything! I was not crazy about the ice cream sandwich being a literal sandwich (between two pieces of bread), but the ice cream itself was wonderful.
The food was amazing! We got the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, cashew chicken, and their garlic noodles—everything was so good. The place itself is really nice and conveniently located right by the Pearl. We couldn’t stop talking about our dinner even after we left and would definitely go back!
Unique take on Asian cuisines . I liked my dish — drunken noodle red curry mole —- very interesting , and you won’t stop eating . The creamy coconut tom yum noodles felt like too much oily, but it is super creamy , little cheesy after taste …. We would try something else , wasn’t for our tastebuds — hard to eat the entire dish. Inside was very nice and packed, but we had our dog so we sat outside . Great for a date night and family night .
sooo pretty in here! the dinner was really good, too! we got: - thai salted limeade 🍋🟩 (10/10) - mochi cheddar hushpuppies (10/10) - korean cheese spring rolls (10/10) - cashew chicken (11/10!) - mango jasmine green tea boba without alcohol 🥭🍵 (4/10) - ice cream sandwiches (black sesame, vietnamese coffee) 🍨☕️ (6/10) really great experience! we’ll definitely be back :)
We recently had an exceptional experience at this wonderful establishment. The family-style dining created a warm and inviting atmosphere, the food was outstanding, and the music added the perfect touch. Most notably, the customer service provided by Katherine was truly remarkable. I sincerely hope she is recognized for the dedication and hard work she contributes to making this place so special.
One of my FAVORITE restaurants. The best dining experience. Moody lighting, unique drinks, creative vegan options & interior decor is so cool. Feels kinda like a tucked away spot in NYC. Wish I took more photos, but was too busy enjoying the meal. The impossible potstickers were the best I’ve ever had.
This restaurant turns food into memories I will never forget. The taste is matched only by the charm of the place! We had the Roasted Brussels sprouts which were cooked to perfection with a delicious sauce, a definite 10/10! We ordered the creamy coconut Tom Yum noodles and the Cashew Chicken, also 10/10…every bite = happiness! Words are difficult to come by to describe just how delicious everything was! We finished it off with a strawberry lychee and Vietnamese ice cream sandwich. So delicious also! A definite stop if you are in the Pearl area of San Antonio!
Didn't know about emerging Chef Jennifer spot or that Chef Jose visited till I visited the restaurant myself and tasted the amazing food. Situated in San Antonio's Historic Pearl district, is a creative fusion cuisine that blends Chinese-American comfort food with other flavors such as mochi hush puppies, and 🥟 mixed with all kinds of ingredients. We also had Dan Dan noodles mixed with brisket and waygu beef, curry that will blow your socks off with flavors and spice. Make sure you get all the sides, I enjoyed the popcorn chicken even though it's a bit non traditional with the bigger pieces, but still plenty of flavors to bring you home comfort or boba shop memoriesm. Definite appreciated Chef Jennifer Hwa Dobbertin honoring her heritage and williness to try new things, and enjoy supporting another Asian food restaurant on the come up. It was a fun dining experience in a beautifully designed space. You can see the unique style with the decorations and art in a historical house. With an array of cocktails, all the teas of China was tasty and the jade bracelet was good too. Nightshade with vibrant colors and the marg looked good too. You won't be disappointed with any of them. Overall an excellent experience. I would drive from Austin to dine there again. Make sure you make a reservation, I bet it would get packed. Also it's on the expensive side of Chinese food dishes but strong portions and plenty of items you can share family style
Came in yesterday for the first time and it was amazing. It was Sunday around 2 PM. They are mainly reservation based and had a long wait to be seated inside but they did let us know that outdoor seating was available so that's where we went! It was a little chilly but they turned on some heaters so it felt really nice! Olivia was our server and she was so great!! They made sure to note any allergies and took time to explain how the restaurant works. They also explained one of the dishes to us so we weren't surprised with the spiciness of the dish. Great service from them! In terms of the food, I thought everything was so delicious! We ordered the pork fried rice as well as the dumplings and popcorn chicken. I loved the sauce that came with the chicken and the fried rice was SO yummy. The plates are family style so our main entree was the rice with the dumplings and chicken as our sides. It was me and my fiancé and that was plenty for us, we even had some leftovers. The dumplings had a sharper taste which was delicious but a little hard to get the grasp of at first but they are marinated very well which I liked. TONS of flavor! I'm not too picky about presentation so I don't have much to say on that. As long as the food tastes good I don't care what it looks like, haha! All in all, this place was great! I can't wait to go back!
We made a lunch reservation for 1pm here and the service atmosphere and food were all amazing. Drink recommendations: swear on your jade bracelet (such an interesting sweet taste), night shades and all the tea in china (more refreshing/fruity taste) Food: cashew chicken, curry guisada, curry shrimp fried rice all AMAZINGG. especially the curry shrimp fried rice. Our server was amazing also, very attentive. I would recommend making a reservation since it does get busy. Parking around the pearl is usually okay, lots of lot options and garage in walking distance. Make sure to arrive early for parking especially if there’s an event going on. Recommend for any occasion!!!!
Went here for a birthday and came back a week later because I hadn’t stopped thinking about their noodles and cocktails 😩 The second time, we went during the Lunar New Year menu and again EVERYTHING was incredible. We got lucky and walked in around 6p on a Sunday and got seated immediately at the patio bar (which is walk-in only), and Gretchen (our server) was knowledgeable and super friendly. The citrus salad was so fresh and full of flavor and the sea bass was incredibly seasoned and had a great crunch. The tofu was great and the portion on that was HUGE. But my favorite dish was the shrimp with Tom Yum noodles and a Panang kind of curry - it was seriously the best thing I’ve eaten in months. This entire place is top-notch. I live in Austin but I’ll eat here any time I’m in San Antonio
There are very few times when Google does not allow a user to give 10 stars and my experience with Best Quality Daughter is one of those times. Best Quality Daughter was a remarkable experience - 10 stars on all counts- food- service - atmosphere - and to this I would add diversity of people, dishes and sheer beauty where the former Head of the Pearl Brewery lived. Chef Jennifer Dobbertin's Chinese-American heritage and travels have been skillfully developed into a fun, stylish atmosphere and innovative cocktails with unique dishes that blend Asian flavors with Texas influences. BQD was amazing. We started - and shared easily as dishes are serve family style- with the potstickers which were hearty and delicately flavored to perfection served with a side sauce of shiitake and ginger. The Mochi Cheddar Hush Puppies were fun too- large enough for one to be two or three bites! Cooked to perfection- no gummy interior. We were hungry so we added the smashed Cucumber thinking they may be served pulverized? But no! Delicately cut into perfect bite size with plenty of heirloom tomatoes sharing the bowl with a delicate and well balanced dressing that was not heavy- as refreshing as this fresh salad! Our entree included the Cashew Chicken (best Cashew Chicken I had EVER had- I don’t do spicy foods and this dish was ideal!!) and we could not resist the Drunken Noodle Red Curry Mole. I was prepared for it to be too spicy - but have no fear - not sure how the kitchen does it - but it too was delicious and overly spicy. It had a kick- but not so much that I had to grab water. The NA drinks are as good as the with alcohol drinks- I enjoyed the Butterfly Pea Flower Lemonade - and then followed with Nightshade’s (Allspice Infused Gin, Butterfly Pea Flower Syrup, Lemon, Tonic, Soda, Thai Basil). Oh dear. They were both divine. We did splurge (with a little bit of tummy space we had left!) for a birthday dessert. The Vietnamese Coffee ice cream sandwich did not disappoint. It was an ideal late afternoon Saturday meal which easily carried us through a pleasant spring like evening in San Antonio, Texas. But before we left the Pearl venue, we did make our way over to Jue Let- a thoughtfully inspired bar also by the very brilliant Jennifer Doverton, with the name as a polite and thoughtful nod to the Chinese immigrant that raised James Beard.
The food was great and the service and staff were amazing. My only minor gripe was the menu didn't have some common dishes you'd find at most Asian restaurants. But that got me out of my usual comfort zone. I was able to try something new and loved it. Big thank you to the hostess who was learning to make drinks and made us her two favorites. Lastly book reservations ahead of time. They seem to always stay busy
A very relaxing little place on the edge of the pearl. We enjoyed several sides and entrées and shared them between the three of us. Also indulged in a few cocktails. Everything was delicious and the service was fantastic! We stayed for 3 hours visiting and chatting. The restaurant started to get really busy and we never once were we bothered by the staff. This place is also not over priced like many places at the Pearl district.

Please make a reservation. Awesome holiday specials. Got the duck, drunken noodles, and fried rice dish. And dessert special 2 for $12!. Must try place :)
This place remains one of my favorite spots in San Antonio. Fantastic food and drinks, and the service is excellent.
Amazing food and drinks. Even though it's quite expensive I think it ends up being very worth it. Very good service as well.
Love the atmosphere and the food! Cashew chicken is delicious! Bar drinks pretty and tasty. But the service and waitstaff is always attentive, friendly and make it the best quality

Such a fun restaurant. We hit this during a food tour but lived the menu and decor. Would love to go back for a full meal. Don’t forget to listen in the bathroom!!

Everything here is first class, patio desting, decoration, parking, service and of course delicious food snd service!!!
I was visiting San Antonio with my family for the weekend. Some friends recommended going to Pearl District, so we went. The first place out of the parking lot was this. A quick search and we were sold. It´s a nice place, and the hostess was very kind, as was the server. Regarding the food, we went with an appetizer and two bigger dishes. The chicken was just bad, too greasy, almost no flavor, with a dipping sauce that was bland. We were disappointed. But then the two main dishes arrived, and they were very good. The pork with rice was tasty and enough to feed two people; the noodles were delicious, albeit a bit spicy (server told us beforehand). We were seated in a patio of sorts, and even though it´s nice, I´d rather be seated inside, as the weather is not that forgiving (too humid and hot). In the end, most of the food was pretty good, and one dish was just bad. Prices are fair, except for the noodles, which were expensive for what they are. Still, I´d recommend this place to anyone that wants some good food. I also did not like the server rushing to get us out of there. Maybe I´m not used to that where I come from, but we were not there for more than an hour and we hadn´t even finished our meals.
Best Quality Daughter impresses with its creative Asian American fusion and whimsical ambiance rooted in chef Jennifer Hwa Dobbertin’s heritage. The crispy Brussels sprouts with peanut-tamarind offered a bold kick, appealing to fans of spicy fare. The Drunken Noodle with red curry mole stood out for its tender meat and well-balanced flavors, one of the most satisfying dishes of the meal. In contrast, the super garlicky noodles with shrimp and curry shrimp fried rice were underwhelming, lacking that extra spark. A major highlight was the ice cream sandwich combo—black sesame paired with strawberry-lychee—which easily became the menu’s standout treat. Though the food offered memorable highs, the dining experience didn’t fully measure up to my expectations. The service was a bright spot, attentive, flexible, and genuinely gracious. The atmosphere, while stylish and funky (think pastel-hued historic cottage with lively decor), felt merely modest in enhancing the overall dining experience. In short, Best Quality Daughter delivers inventive dishes and warm hospitality, but a few inconsistencies keep it from being a flawless outing.
Made reservations for lunch and were immediately seated at a very nice booth. The server presented us with dinner menus. We asked for a lunch menu but she told us they don’t advertise lunch specials during the holidays….(Although, their online menu states the lunch menu is offered daily,) There was no mention of limitations during the holiday period. We were hoping to try different dishes from their lunch selections. We were then pushed to order from the dinner menu in which everything is double in price. Needless to say we ordered the Drunken Noodles Red Curry Mole and an order of the pot stickers and were quite pleased with the food. Overall a good experience but the server was very elusive about the reason they don’t offer their lunch specials. Big disappointment and it was obvious she was ready for us to move on. Won’t be back anytime soon. Update: Received a call from the Restaurant Manager and she apologized for the misunderstanding / experience and refunded our entire meal. It’s good to know that the lunch menu is available daily even through the Holidays. We’ll give lunch a try again next time we’re downtown San Antonio. Thank you Frankie!
Fun eclectic place to go. The decor is super cool with a different wall paper in every room. The food was good as well as the service. We shared a couple of plates. The appetizers were my favorites. Popcorn chicken is a must. The drinks were fun but wasn’t a big fan of the selection. The service was great.
This was such a great experience for me since I am gluten free and there was great options to try. The server was well versed in the menu. We tried a little bit of everything, even stuff we were hesitant to try like that BANG BANG JAPCHAE SALAD which was sweet potato noodles, local oyster mushrooms, napa cabbage, herbs, seasonal Farm to Table veggies, roasted sunflower seeds, bang bang dressing. Served cold. It was so GOOD. Recommended for gluten free and while I’m not vegetarian it would be good for vegetarians too!
I was really excited to finally try this place after hearing so many great reviews. It’s a charming, cozy spot set in a house from the early 1900s right in the Pearl District. Definitely recommend making a reservation if you’re going on the weekend. Our waiter was super friendly and took the time to walk us through the dishes we were curious about, which I appreciated. We started with the Korean corn cheese spring rolls…absolutely a 10/10, so delicious! We also ordered the smashed cucumber salad. Since I make this at home pretty often, it didn’t stand out to me, so I’d give it a 5/10. For our main, we went with the salt and pepper shrimp. The crisp was perfect, so I’d rate it 8/10. We’ve had this dish elsewhere with a little more flavor, but the dipping sauce they serve it with added a nice kick. We also tried the fried rice (not pictured), which was solid…about a 7/10. As for cocktails, I had the margarita and the “Swear on Your Jade.” They were fine but nothing memorable…5/10 for both. Overall, it’s a really cute spot for date night or even a casual lunch if you’re nearby. We’ll definitely be back to try a few more dishes!

Really enjoyed the mochi cheddar hush puppies and miso ginger noodles. Delicious flavors, generous portions. Lunch date and I sat outside. Great location across from the Pearl Can Plant apartments.…
We had wonderful food, but most people wouldn’t have the chance to eat here without reservations. The hostess is very quick to give a snarky response about being full till closing and they work off reservations. I asked for bar seating which she stated was also full, but that would be our only option. We went to the outside bar area which only has about 8 seats at the bar, but a large amount of open tables in “the bar area”. I asked another staff which I got the same snappy response when I asked which area was the bar seating area that they were full. We were then asked to go check in with the hostess, even though the hostess had sent us out here. We waited about 10 minutes before they said we couldn’t wait in the area we were waiting and sent us back to the hostess to “check in” for the open bar seating. We knew people were just finishing paying, but they assured us all of the guests are just mid-dinner and we would have a long wait if we got sat at all. For being an out of town guest, it was not inviting at all! We had walked over 30 minutes to get here so I wasn’t going to leave and walk to another place. We finally got a space at the bar area which cleared fairly fast compared to what we had been told. Our bar tender/server was kind, but one of our food items (green beans) arrived when we were done eating and ready to pay. I think it had been forgotten because she had to go check on it and told us that she had to get a manager to have it made. Customer service is severely lacking from the first staff that are supposed to be the most inviting or helpful, I can’t imagine how many guests are turned away and don’t return because of this. If my husband wouldn’t have recommended it (he was part of a group of 6-7 pilots / Boeing flight team that ate here without reservations) I would have walked out and not been back. Please talk with your hostess team about customer service skills!

Unfortunately, Quality Daughter didn’t live up to the hype. The service felt rushed. The server was constantly at our table, which made the experience feel hurried rather than welcoming. The food itself was disappointing and lacked the flavor and quality we expected given the reputation. With so much buzz around this place, it was a letdown. At this point, the name feels ironic… maybe Least Quality Daughter would be more fitting.
I have many bad things to say about specifically the food. 1. Burnt oil was used on my pot stickers which gave it a foul taste 2. The pork used in the pot stickers was like a chorizo and gave it a heavy oily flavor 3. They had way too much coconut fat used in all of the dishes that have coconut 4. My cup still had lipstick on it when I received my water 5. An insane amount of saffron was used in my curry which made it too overpowering to even taste anything else except saffron. 6. If im paying 20-30$ per person I expect good food, this place did nothing right. Please dont think anything about this place is authentic because its the worst fusion i have ever had. Cant get anything thats thai right here, they need to fix their spice and fat ratio and MAYBE this place might be good. Every sauce they had is good though I did enjoy those.
