Kokono San Cristóbal Reviews
This is probably one of the most personalised and special dining experiences I have ever had. It balanced fine dining and culinary restraint with intimacy and a sense of cultural connection. Chef Claudia Santiz hosts the evening exclusively for you/your group. As such, she takes the time to talk to you about the origin of every dish (and her English interpreter Anna is fantastic too!). It was truly unique and delicious. I would recommend this experience to anyone traveling to San Cristobal.
We had a memorable evening, experiencing the fabulous original and unique food from Chef Claudia, it was perfectly accompanied by the interactions with her, learning her history, her challenges and how she is achieving success with her great customer experience. Food components are all organic, from the region, collected and prepared daily providing one of the best quality food. Please note that the restaurant service is currently working under reservation, call or message Claudia to arrange for your personal and superb service, highly recommended
Absolutely delicious food and amazing Chef, and person. I wish the world to see and taste this cuisine. A sincere Thank You for this experience!!!
This place was so good that we had to return a second time before we left San Cristobal. On both occasions, we discovered really exciting dishes with amazing flavours. So much care went into the creative presentation of everything and the staff was super helpful as we figured out what we were ordering. Although, I don’t think you could go wrong no matter what you get here. Definitely our best food experience during our whole six weeks in Mexico!
Very tasty local food. The waitresses were friendly and welcoming. Interesting menu, lots to choose from and the chef has put a lot of thought into the dishes. We were recommended this place and it did not disappoint!
The staff were so friendly and willing to answer any questions. We ordered empanadas, which were some of the most delicious I’ve ever had. Everything we tried was amazing and was a much needed break from meat-heavy, greasy food we had been eating in Mexico so far.
This restaurant is one of San Cristobal’s pearls! Wonderful typical dishes, cooked with heart and knowledge. The portions are quite correct and the price is as fair as it gets considering the high quality of the cuisine. This restaurant is not only the food but a whole concept about Chiapas and their people. The owner and chef, Claudia Ruiz, came to our table and we had a good chat. As a Mexican, I am really happy of this experience!
Wanted to come here and happily ended up here as part of a walking food tour. It’s a female run restaurant (chef did some time at Pujol in CDMX) highlighting local Chiapas ingredients, indigenous cooking in an elevated way. Rustic, beautiful and just lovely flavours. Wish they had more customers - we were the only ones there.
It was a little sad to see we were the only people at this place, the food is AMAZING. It’s not only very regional, fresh and original, it is also both super modern and rooted in traditional cuisine. I still can’t get over some of the dishes because they were just so good, congrats to the chef for making an amazing job.
Worth the walk away from turist walkway, service attentive, authentic food, place is not pretensious, not fancy nor comercial, the real deal. Taste 10/10 Portion 8/10 Temperature 8/10 Service 10/10 Ambiance 7/10 Price vs quality 9/10 Try to sit on the terrance with view of the mountain, they have craftbeer from chiapas.
A beautiful cozy little restaurant with home-mafe delicious food. We loved all the little details: from the decorations inside the restaurant to the serving of food. Very friendly staff. We also met the owner/chef who was extremely nice and explained us the meals. Excellent experience of local Chiapas food! We were there 3 times and would return again! Amazing home-made hot chocolate!
Tasty traditional food! To start off with they brought out a yummy vege on crisp tortilla amuse. We ordered the mole(which had some meat inside with the mole all wrapped in a maize pastry kind of thing with fried bananas (plantains) - yum!! We also had the guacamole (they kept bringing out fresh hot large fried tortillas), then for main course we ordered traditional food of the Chiapa region. Calabacitas rellenas - stuffed zuchinni with a peanut kind of sauce. Super juicy Pechuga rellenas - chorizo wrapped in chicken breast Both were super tasty and not dry at all. Both came with salad with roasted sliced beets and sweet potato & plenty of fresh warm tortillas!!!👍 Definitely recommend ... plenty of items (incl vego) to choose from. Drinks - beer and non alcoholic only. No wine Would go again!!😁😁
This is a really lovely local restaurant where you can try regional food prepared in a modern way. But it’s perhaps not the outstanding meal I expected from the other high ratings. My dish was tasty- pumpkin stuffed with chorizo and sauce but my partner’s dish was not good- dry beef wrapped in kale and spinach with more kale and uncooked spinach on the side. In summary worth a visit (and the long walk) but be careful what you choose!
The dishes look good but the food is very much traditional indigenous Mexican. All the dishes we had either lacked flavor or tasted quite bad. This applied to the mango juice and the dessert which is quite hard to do. The edible flowers did not complement the dish. I would avoid this place. They cannot speak English but we managed ok with Google translate, the service was fine.
The food is Bland. As in no taste, seasoning or flavor. Chiapas y Yucatan can have bland food sometimes and it might be something you have to get used to. It might be fresh which is good but it has no taste. We have been to other traditional restaurants in Chiapas and they were a hit or miss--> In some places the food will have flavor and others will not. You can also get more for your money elsewhere and at least get a dish that has some seasoning...sometimes non-mexican places will have food that's actually seasoned but of course it is not authentic mexican Service was soso. The place is kept very clean.
Maybe my expectations were too high but nothing here was anything amazing. In fact both the dishes we ordered were served cold and the chicken and pork were dry. The sauces did have good flavor but it’s the only thing that made it edible. They brought us tortillas to eat with the meals when we were already almost done lol. That was fine though because the tortillas were not great. The cauliflower soup was ok but they didn’t bring me a spoon to try it until it started getting cold. The tiny little empanadas they served at the beginning were the best part. My beer was great too. Service was all around lacking and they even yelled to my girlfriend in the bathroom to get moving as it was just after closing, 8. I like to imagine the owner / chef was not around yesterday, Sunday. At least the prices were cheap.
