Humphry Slocombe San Francisco Reviews
A quaint little place I saw on Check please Bay Area. I saw the fried chicken Benedict and had to try it. It was outstanding and was enough to share with a friend although I could have eaten it all. The hollandaise sauce was outstanding. I just wish I had remembered to ask for extra. The chicken was crispy and flavorful on its own. I prefer hash browns but they didn't have them, but I loved how well done the home fries were. I didn’t even ask for extra crispy which I normally do.
Solid breakfast / brunch and lunch in Dogpatch. Breakfast Burrito options abound, with modifications to personalize to just right. New Mexican Hatch chilis available. An excellent diner with subtle nautical themes. Very clean bathrooms. Very friendly, and attentive, service. Bar and sidewalk seating options available.
As a pancake lover, I tried their buttermilk and cornmeal pancake and was not prepared for how great a cornmeal pancake could taste! Solid coffee- I believe they use Equator beans. Cute neighborhood breakfast/brunch joint!
Love love love! Fast & friendly service and the food is so good! Tried the waffle with fried chicken & sausage gravy plus 2 eggs and the omelette special. Of course we had to get the beignets (one of each) they were served hot & fresh! So fluffy, light and not greasy and the dark chocolate sauce was so good! Their mimosas are the perfect mix of oj and sparkling wine and the coffee was strong & dark. Thanks so much for a wonderful breakfast!
It's one of my favorite breakfast spots in SF. I'm so happy this place is open again. The food is still delicious. I came last weekend for breakfast. Then, the next day for my birthday (Super Bowl Sunday) then brought some family members on Monday. Everyone is so nice and inviting.
We were so happy to hear that the famous Just for You Cafe is back open under new ownership. We went on a Friday during lunch and were able to get a seat pretty quickly. There's also outdoor seating. We went with the basics to see if things were the same. We ordered the beignets - three-ways - and it was heavenly. We also split an omelette that was big enough for two people. Everything felt pretty much the same. Service was attentive, and we didn't feel rushed. I'm glad the neighborhood has their cafe back!
Great and friendly services. Tasty brunches with reasonable prices. Beignet is so delicious, must try! Waitlist system is user friendly. Been here a several times, never disappointed. One of my favorite restaurants in SF.
The service was excellent, and the staff do rush you a little, but provide you with as much water as you can drink, and wait On you hand and foot. I never had to ask for water. Very attentive overall. The cornbread was too dry unfortunately, but the omelette was pretty good and the home fries were excellent. The beignets were okay.
Very good brunch spot! I’m guessing it’s good for all times of the day but I’ll lean toward brunch. Both the food and drinks are very good here. The mimosas are HUGE but go down easy when paired with the many delicious food options. I had the Heuvos Rancheros with the Hatch Green Chili sauce and Vegetarian sauces. Everything had good flavor and a bit of heat as well, which was welcome. We also got the corn pancake to share, my god it’s good! Finally you have to try the Beignets. Fluffy, tasty, crispy, awesome!!!
One of the best hole in the wall spots I’ve been to in the city after 15+ yrs of living here. Just a 10 min walk if you find yourself walking from the UCSF Mission Bay Campus. This place is perfection. Menu is diverse, creative and delicious. Service was prompt, extremely polite and impeccable execution. Price point is right on the money in terms of quality and value. You should come here to eat purely to view the excellent art adorning the walls. Will be back next time I’m laying low in the dog patch. Cheers
As a Bob’s Burgers enthusiast, I had to make a stop at Giuliana’s. This location was the inspiration for the show and man does it live up to the cartoon’s cuisine! I got the cheese burger which was the first hamburger I’d eaten in 2 years and it was absolutely delicious. The vegetables were fresh, the patty was thick and juicy, and the side of fries helped tie it all together. The staff were incredibly helpful, friendly, and kind. The vibe of the restaurant was open and relaxed which is the best environment to eat breakfast or lunch, in my opinion. Furthermore, the bathroom is very nice. My wife and I were so impressed we woke up early on our last day before our flight to make another stop here and grab a bite of some of their delicious waffles and eggs Benedict. If you are making a trip out to San Francisco and want to increase your odds having a good time, you definitely need to stop by Giuliana’s Just for You Cafe.
Go-to place in dogpatch for brunch. Staff members are all super helpful and friendly. I alternate between ordering the carnitas scramble and fried chicken benedict. Only deep fried foods use seed oils, everything else uses butter.
Came here for lunch on a Friday. It’s a cute spot in Dogpatch. There was no wait and we were seated quickly. They have a nice menu of breakfast, salads, sandwiches and fried chicken. I got the Cobb salad which was fresh & delicious! My fries got a veggie scramble and she got a generous serving of cornbread with it. Yum and nice place to catch up with a friend!
Fantastic! A little pricey, but worth it. The beignets are great, and the corn beef hash is homemade in-house and is by far the best I've ever had. Everyone is friendly and I'm pretty sure everything on the menu is hella good 👍 👍
If you want an absolutely incredible flavor pairing, try a scoop of the Vietnamese Coffee with the Secret Breakfast. They’re both amazing on their own, but together, it’s ice cream heaven. Their coffee ice cream is the best coffee flavored ice cream I’ve ever tried. Can’t wait to come back and get it again. PS: the line moves quickly!
High quality ice cream! Given that you’re in the touristy Ferry Building, it’s priced on the high side. Lines can be long depending on the time of the day and tourist volume. When a company sticks to its tradition, you get consistent quality and excellent flavors and that’s what Humphry does best!
Firstly visited in 2013, then 2014 and lately in 2025… and since then till they are consistently holding the same great quality taste and that winking texture. The only change is that they simply got “better”! Surely you’ll enjoy the ice cream flavors, which each is competing the other. Must try the Graham, or the one with strawberry, and the other one with the Honey thing! (Sorry about the incomplete names…And most importantly the peanut butter:) Thanks to the team and keep up.
LOVE!!!! Was walking through the Ferry Building and immediately smelled something delicious, it was their waffle cones. The line was quite long so I thought hmmm must be good? Lined up for some impromptu ice cream. It was a tough call on what flavour to choose, but I settled on the Lavender Crumble. Oh my god. Wow. I’ve never had an ice cream flavour like this ever before in my life. 100/10 completely worth it and would kill to have it again, although next time I’m here I really wanna try their Matcha Cookies & Cream, and honestly I just want to sample every flavour on the menu. The funny thing is I’m not an ice cream person, I never crave ice cream, I prefer cake or chocolate… but I think their Lavender is the first time I become an “ice cream person”. This will be my go to spot for ice cream in SF from now on! 😍😍😍 Thank you for such unique and exceptional flavours!
Humphry Slocombe has the wildest and tastiest flavors of ice cream you can imagine. I’ve been going to the original San Francisco location for years, this is the first time I’ve stopped at the Ferry Building location. If you’re an ice cream lover and you haven’t tried their ice cream, you are really missing out. This time I tried the Lavender Crumble, it was fantastic! There are quite a few places to eat at the SF Ferry Building, so you can go to Humphry Slocombe’s for dessert or just stop in there because you want ice cream, you’ll love it!
This ice cream shop at the Ferry Building in San Francisco is a must-visit. The flavors are varied and delicious; I tried the peanut butter and chocolate caramel cookies this time, and it really stands out. It's no surprise that it's ranked in the top 5 ice cream shops in the United States. Be prepared for a wait, though, as there's usually a line, but the ice cream and waffle cone are worth it. The service can be hit or miss; sometimes they’re friendly, and other times they just serve you and move on. They regularly change their flavors and also have specials. If you're in San Francisco, it’s definitely worth checking out.
Pretty good ice cream and fast service. Tasted pretty fresh as well. Prices were pretty standard for CA and size. I got the Secret Breakfast Sunday, which was their Secret Breakfast ice cream topped with Graham Cracker crumbs, fudge, and a blow-torched marshmellow. I really enjoyed it, but there were a little too many crumbs in my opinion. I'd come again if I was in the area. 7
A unique variety of ice cream flavors where you can’t go wrong. We tried many flavors with the best being the surprise breakfast. It has hints of bourbon which sweet notes of maple and textures. I would highly suggest the Vietnamese coffee and Hong Kong milk tea flavors! We also tried the cold brew float which was very heavy on the coffee if you need that energy kick!
Really good designer ice cream shop. I’ve had many of their other flavors before, such as the breakfast one. Tried the black sesame seed on special today. Was really good as always, though the rich sesame flavor, which I prefer on the strong side in an ice cream, was somewhat subdued.
For a San Francisco cafe it's not terrible pricing but a little more on the expensive side but the quality of food does make up nicely. The music, decoration, and kitchen right next to you really help the feeling when you walk in very friendly and warm. My only complaint is when I ordered my tuna sandwich which was great I asked before hand if there were pickles on it. I was informed they did have them on the sandwich which I said thanks to, but when my food came out they had forgotten my pickles completely. Also the chips were under seasoned by a wide margin.
Burger burrito - 4/5 very heavy and filling, would be even better with more acidic flavor profile, I ate mine with ketchup My friend liked the house made chips Casual diner vibe. Bathroom is nice
Cute cafe in Dogpatch good for a casual morning breakfast! The food was good and the portions were standard. Everything was a little overpriced, but the service was really great and super friendly.
This was my first visit here and we really enjoyed it. It's mostly a breakfast and brunch place although they do have lots of savory dishes as well. I had the N.I.C.E. Caesar salad with buffalo chicken and homemade dressing. It was excellent! I can't remember why they called it "nice". The french fries were awesome my husband had the reuben and the meat looked absolutely incredible and the sandwich was well assembled but the flavor just wasn't there in the pastrami. I had a glass of champagne and it was so good! They give you a very generous pour. The breakfast waffles and beignets looked amazing! We'll be back for those.
Humphry Slocombe at One Market Place is a must-visit for ice cream lovers! We tried the Vietnamese Coffee and Cranberry Coconut flavors, and both were outstanding in Dec 2024. The Vietnamese Coffee was rich, bold, and perfectly creamy, while the Cranberry Coconut, which had a hint of alcohol, was refreshingly unique--the tartness of cranberry balanced beautifully with the smooth coconut. We waited in line for more than 30 minutes just to get two cones, but it was worth the wait! If you're in a hurry, you can skip the line and grab a pint instead, which is super convenient. The flavors are inventive and memorable, making it clear why this spot is so popular. Service was quick and friendly despite the crowd. If you're in the area, don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind ice cream experience!
3 scoops for $11. I got the Blackout which is triple chocolate, Matcha Cookies and Cream and Salted Caramel Cocoa Nibs. Among the three, I really liked the Blackout and Matcha because they have a balanced flavour profile, while the salted caramel tasted too sweet for my taste.
It has long lines and very popular. So, make sure you have time to stand in line, especially early evening and after office hours. (I went back during off peak hours and there was zero line) I tried their daily special, which has ok flavor (surprise breakfast) but the the ice cream is rich and smooth. Will have to try another flavor and update my rating. I heard their Alphonso Mango ice cream is great. So, go back another time.
Gets bustling during the weekends and on Friday mornings! Quick and very friendly service. Nice neighborhood spot. Food tastes as expected. It's a good spot for a low key brunch with friends!
The ice cream was good, the location was nice. Had the Vietnamese coffee ice cream. Was surprised to see most of the ice cream, including the vanilla, all containing gluten. Seems weird. Why the extra gluten in ice cream? Possibly the first ice cream place that won’t split a single scoop. I’m already overpaying for your $7 scoop, why not just let me go half and half.
My partner and I were eager to try this restaurant since it’s popular and seemed like a cool spot! Unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. The food was okay, but the service was just outright horrendous. We went for Saturday brunch and know that this is a busy time for them, so we didn’t mind waiting 15ish minutes to get seated. An interesting thing to note is that it seemed they were very well staffed, which is why it is puzzling why the service was so poor! Our server- who was not friendly at all- took our order and we only saw her 2 other times after that: to bring our food and to bring the check. Never once did someone ask how the food was, offer to refill drinks, or just check on how we were doing. As I said, they were plenty staffed, so the fact that nobody came at all after bringing us our food besides to bring the check is just bad service. If the food was amazing, it might have made up for the bad service, but the food was average, so overall, it was disappointing and a poor experience. We will not be going back.
