Tip: Mid spicy is already very spicy, so consider ordering a lower spice level if you're sensitive to heat. The iron pot is great for sharing.

Spices San Francisco Reviews
Spices is absolutely amazing. My partner and I went with a friend and ordered the orange chicken, seaweed, braised chicken with chili pepper, and the fish fillet bowl with flaming red oil, and every single dish was bursting with flavor. The orange chicken was crispy and perfectly balanced, the braised chicken had that deep, spicy kick you hope for, and the seaweed was surprisingly flavorful and refreshing. But the standout, without question, was the fish fillet bowl. It came out sizzling hot, coated in a rich, fiery red oil with layers of spice that changed as the dish cooled, every bite felt like a new experience. That said, this is not the place for anyone who can’t handle heat, the food definitely packs some fire. But if you love bold, complex flavors, this is the spot for you. The service was a little lackluster, but the food more than makes up for it. Don’t hesitate to ask for what you need, it’s worth it. I’ll definitely be back. This place is crazy good and absolutely a must-try at least once.
Egg plants- salt coating makes it crisp, inside tender and garlicky and flavorful Shui zhu yu pian - spicy, savory, flavorful La zi ji - super crispy and delicious and flavorful and spicy and melt in your mouth Ultra recommend very very very good One of the best la zi ji
the explosive spicy chicken (there is a tofu and fish version too) is sooo amazing. So are the veggies that are sauteed with garlic. This is my 3rd time coming here this month and it’s always a great experience — friendly staff too. Bring a friend because the portions are large.
This is the perfect place to get your tastebuds tingling.. I loved my experience and the food here . The chicken wings was fantastic, crisp and crunchy to the core . Friendly staff , clean tables and lots of seating area . Quantity of the dishes also is fantastic, I ordered a couple of dishes and every dish has its own unique taste and flavors. I so so so recommend this place .
Food was good with generous portions. Dining environment was nice. Service was okay, but slow. I believe they were too busy and under the staff. Authentic Hunan dishes. Recommend the sizzling cumin lamb. Very hot so you might need to ask them for different level of spice. Will come again to try more.
Their iron pot is one of my favorite comfort foods in the city. It's perfect for when I want to feel full of warmth and joy while craving something spicy and flavorful. The portion size of the vegetarian small iron pot ($30.99) is generous and can easily be shared between 2-3 people, or enjoyed solo and split into multiple meals! Pairs well with rice.
We enjoyed a great lunch here! spicies + rainy day = excellent combination. Mid spicy is sooooo spicy already (we normally have pretty good tolerance for spicy food), really curious about what extra spicy is like. Will be back. Not many people at lunch time on this Saturday, no wait and dishes come very fast.
Rejoice all spicy food lovers, this is your place! After multiple failed spicy food I had in SF, I stumbled upon this gem just for its name =Spices. !! And it was AMAZING !! The braised chicken meat with chilli pepper($15) was so juicy and beautifully spicy and can just be eaten like that with steamed rice($2). It was plentiful for 2 people. Next up the chicken wings with explosive chilli($17) was nicely crispy, flavorful and had the 'ooph', beautifully paired with beer n you have your comfort food right there. Come try, you will not regret!
Love this place. It's actually called Spices II now. Their explosive chili fried chicken 辣子鸡 is frickin addictive, and we always order the dry braised string beans, but everything on the menu is awesome, the tan tan noodle, the fire iron pot, tofu with chives, etc
They recently remodeled the place to look more upscale. Consequently, the prices also went up. The food quality is still solid. Their dry pots here are what to go for.
I’m on business trip from Texas and this place is the traditional Chinese food, lots of flavor and color on the dishes and best of all yummy! Definitely will be back next time. Good stuff! And service is good!

Go to this Chinese place for clean, well-prepared, and delicious food. Their green bean and eggplant dishes are excellent, and of course, the dry pot is great as well.
I love the flaming hot pot here. My wife and I come frequently. I get the fish hot pot and then cook myself with the tea. Love it! And it’s an also nice and quiet with great owners.
The best best best Chinese restaurant in the city. They made the best blend of Sichuan and Hunan. It's spicy (like really) and numbing at the same time. I go to a lot of Chinese restaurants and this one is hands down the best. Move aside Z&Y.
Everything is amazing. I love the explosive chili chicken wings and house special fried rice the most. The veggie egg rolls are divine especially when you dine in. So perfectly crispy. The staff is super nice. I love this place.
absolutely incredible. This was my first time there, but I used to frequent spices 3 in Oakland when I lived there and it was always one of my favorite restaurants. The orange chicken is absolutely delicious. We also got the beef noodle soup. The noodles tasted like they were homemade like they made them fresh. Definitely one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in San Francisco.

Had the whole restaurant for ourselves on a quiet weekday lunch hour. First time dining here and pretty impressed with what we ordered! Would skip Calamari, didn’t taste fresh! Fried rice and cumin lamb were some of the best dishes we had in a while!
We visited Spices as a group and had the opportunity to sample a wide variety of dishes. The flavors were absolutely delightful, and each dish was wonderfully seasoned and tender. We will definitely be back. If you appreciate spicy and authentic Hunan-style cuisine, this restaurant is worth a visit.
It's good for the area but don't expect a meal of a lifetime. It holds a large group of 8 to 12 pretty well and service is fast. Overall the food is fairly standard and available widely at most Sichuan places. Cold beer on tap! The duck and spicy lamb were the best things we had.

Food was good overall but nothing really hit the spot. We got the the dry pot with pigs feet and pork intestine - it wasn't spicy enough and flavors didn't seep into the meat. Other items were just as average. We ordered: 1. Lamb fish soup 2. Duck and duck blood pot 3. Dan Dan noodles

Mediocre delivery on flavors Sichuan. F12. 麻辣海鲜汤面 Numbing Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup had faint whiffs of Sichuan peppercorn, in a broth tasting of little beyond chili spice. Suggestion to try somewhere else when craving the quintessential ma-la.
I am dissappointed. I ordered the chicken tomato hot pot and it was a bunch of badly cut overcooked chicken with shards of broken chicken bones with more bone than chicken. We were given flat plates and forks to eat which made it very difficult. It was definitely not worth it for the steep price of 35 dollars. The service was also bad because we werent asked for drinks and basically ignored our table the entire time unless we called our waiter over.
