Taqueria El Gallo Azteca Staten Island Reviews
Not a fancy restaurant but the food and service is really great! Price is fair and the portions are great. Looking for a great meal at a fair price this is the spot.
Food was amazing. Totally authentic. People are really nice too.
Nice clean taqueria. Food was freshly prepared and delicious - a few tables and counter seats! Great value for the quality! Staff very nice!
im bias because i like mexican food. this is one of the few joints I normally order from. They hardly speak english so you know they are legit. tacos have gotten really expensive throughout the years, but they make the best green sauce in my opinion. Go for the tacos (chicken, steak, and/or chorizo) and ask for the green sauce. their tamales are really good too!
Some of the best tacos I’ve ever had! The quesadillas are amazing too! It’s a very cozy spot with great Mexican food and a nice variety of drinks made right in front of you. The place is pretty spacious, clean, and conveniently located near the ferry. The staff is friendly, though they could be a bit more personable. I definitely recommend it!"
Stopped by on a whim after taking the Staten Island ferry — couldn’t recommend it enough!!! Food is super good, owners are very friendly, good vibes all around. Looking forward to our next visit already. Had the pastor and steak/cactus tacos + steak quesadillas, all amazing and large portions.
Do not be fooled by the small size of this restaurant. It's actually one of the best legitimate Mexican taco places located in Staten Island. If you want your traditional tacos, this is the place to go! They are fresh and served with an amazing green or red salsa that will leave you asking for more. My favorite tacos are the chicken and "lengua" tacos with cacti (also known as the tacos Aztecas). This restaurant also serves tortas, entrees, and quesadillas, in case you're not in the mood for the tasty tacos. Ps- Do NOT forget to bring cash, unfortunately this small restaurant does not accept debit or credit cards so the owners do ask for you to bring money in hand. But do not fret if you forget because there is an ATM machine located inside.
My favorite place on Staten Island and one of the main reasons I love living just a block away. I seriously used to eat here a few times a week for about a year and an probably gonna be doing that again now that I’m back in grad school again. I never get tired of this place everything is delicious and reasonably priced. My favorite is the barbacoa on weekends only. Get it In the tacos, quesadillas or the soup!
MÉXICO 🇲🇽 Eat the World NYC review: I must have walked by this busy corner spot dozens of times before finally walking inside. I always noted to myself that I should go, but on those days a Sri Lankan restaurant further up the hill or something else was the destination. I knew somehow that the Aztec Rooster would be there the next time, just as it has been since I've been coming to Staten Island. When it finally happened, the first thing that caught my eye was the house special taco azteca, a creation made of steak, cactus, and cooked onions. It is almost too large for its tortillas, which are better than average and griddled back to life nicely. The green avocado salsa it comes with adds a nice kick and some necessary juices to the mixture.
Came by to check this place out, since I’ve seen a few friends recommend it. It’s hot inside the restaurant, and can feel stuffy if you’re standing/sitting around for a while. The restaurant is CASH ONLY (I wish they start taking credit/debit/Apple Pay/etc.). The menu is pretty good, but it’s in Spanish, so if you don’t speak Spanish, you won’t know what you’re getting or what’s inside the sandwich. Can take a while to get your food, since it’s one grill and one person making the food. Prices are reasonable, and the food is delicious. Service is good.
How does a Mexican restaurant NOT have sour cream???? Blasphemy! This place is a hole in wall. Not much of an atmosphere, but it's a quick place to order out. There are only 3 tables inside, but it's such a small location so not really a place to sit and eat. Food is mediocre at best. How does a taco come with only chicken, onions and cilantro. A TON OF CILANTRO!!! THAT'S IT! No cheese, no lettuce, no tomatoes. $54 for tacos, quesadillas and Jarritos is not worth it. Will we return... sorry to say... nope.
The tacos is expensive. $8 a taco. The star is for the price. The food is okay
This place used to be great a few years ago but evidently things have changed, 6 tacos are like $28. Cash only. I’m not innately opposed to a cash-only business, but if you’re going to try to evade taxes at least cut us a break on how much the food costs. Anywho, overpriced and underwhelming. Dry tacos, with low quality meat. Would not recommend, there are way better places nearby.
