The parking lot was full, the restaurant was very busy and there were several people waiting in line when we arrived, but we were seated in a short period of time. Our server Destiny was awesome. We offered beverages right away and the pace of service was really good. My husband and I both had the Reuben sandwich, mine with salad and his with Cole slaw. We also had onion rings to start. All of the food was fresh and hot when it arrived. The staff and managers were all hustling to support kitchen and servers. They were friendly and attentive. We will return when we are back in town.

The food is good home cooking. You get a ton of food! Seriously. We shared a chicken Cobb salad. We took at least half of it home!

Service was great, food was great, atmosphere ... the cook and wait staff was listening to and singing to what I think was gangster rap and quite a high volume (it was a Saturday night). I found it hilarious but if you don't like that sort of thing, bring ear plugs, still a great place to eat!

I am a huge fan of Black Bear Diner I've never been to one in the state that hasn't had the best customer service the greatest food large large portions I always have to take food home and everything I've eaten is worth every buck these pictures do not do it justice but that was a tortilla soup absolutely delicious and that was a pastrami sandwich on Rye, I ordered with the soup instead of getting fries

We stayed in a motel and wanted a „normal“ diner for dinner. There was no wait and we got a nice booth. The service was attentive, friendly and quick. Had the „light“ taco salad which was a good choice.

The restaurant is not busy during the lunch time but we still have to wait a long time for the server coming. We took the breakfast and burger which are large in size and delicious. Overall, it was great to have a lunch here during our long road trip.

The team at black bear are energetic fun and attentive. The food is always amazing. Brodi is always working extremely hard to meet the demands of every hungry bear, with a smile on her face.. Mike is an amazing cook, Catelyn, Caylee and Jessica always make a fun atmosphere to have a family meal in. Black bear has the best food in town and the team always leaves me eger to return .

We were traveling to Oregon on business. We always eat at Black Bear Diner at home so we were very happy to see one. I was a little bit disappointed when they didn't have what I usually eat but I did find something else. It was delicious! Thank you Black Bear for being delicious and consistent. We left feeling full and ready to tackle the next 7 hours on the road!

My family stopped for dinner along our road trip and we're very pleased. Everyone we encountered was super friendly, customers and employees alike. The crispy chicken Cobb salad was one of the best salads I've ever had! The price was great- less than $60 for 5 people. Everyone was happy with their dinner.

Ate here my whole pregnancy once a week sometimes two. The food is always good and the staff is nice and the place is kept clean. I usually get the veggie scramble or French toast both are good choices and very filling.My partner likes the chicken fried steak or the Bob's big bear burger and is always happy with those. It's a nice place to eat with family or friends and the food is a decent price.

During a lunchtime visit, my hubby left his laptop behind so we called and spoke to Dakota and she secured it behind the hostess station. After a sleepless night (my husband is an author and all his work was on that computer) we tried calling the next morning and the phones were down so my next move was to call Yreka PD and they sent an officer down there who took possession of the laptop and immediately called us back. I was then connected with Janene in lost & found/claims at Yreka PD and we arranged to have the laptop shipped to us through Fed Ex and it arrived safely the next day. We can’t thank the quick thinking and caring staff of BBD (and Yreka PD) enough! Oh, and the food is really good too! It’s so good, you’ll end up forgetting what you brought in with you!

What a cute diner. I wished I could've taken pics of all the bear carvings and quotes on the barstools. You can tell that a lot of heart went into it. I had the chicken strips, one cousin had a BLT and the other one fish fish and chips. The portions were generous and delicious. We couldn't finish it all but not because we didn't like it. Quite the contrary. The staff was very friendly and inviting. We didn't have to wait but we were seated immediately. I highly recommend this place or one near you. I've never had a meal here i didn't love. The food is consistently good, the staff is always friendly. When we got here they said it would be a 10 to 15 minutes wait, and we were seated in three minutes. Jessica was so sharp! When I asked for lemon to squeeze on my Caesar salad, she knew not to bring slices (like the ones in the water), she brought lemon WEDGES. Very impressed with her service anyway, but that put it over the top.

Tuna Salad was so so good. I just used Red Wine Vinegar as the dressing, ohhhh it was so good. It really filled me up. Thank you to the Owners, Cooks, Waitresses, Dishwasher & all Crews. I had an AMAZING experience on Veteran's Day! For being as busy as this place was, I got my food pretty darn quick. I was also pleased they offered any meal on the menu free (except for steaks) which was totally understandable for veterans. No sign-ups or coupons, just show your ID. So I just got the cheeseburger with fries. The cooks Raymond and Mike did a bang-up job, the burger was very good and the fries were perfectly cooked. The hostess' Melissa and Payten were very focused on everyone coming in and getting waters and helping bus the tables as well. My waitress Candence was very nice, warm and a delight to deal with. It seemed like all the employees were like a family, and a happy one, joking around when they could which I am sure helps out with the stress of a very busy establishment. They all worked as a team from the dishwasher to the cooks to the waitstaff, any military commander would be pleased on how this place operated like a "well oiled machine". I took a photo of their placemats that show their 6 "credos" and I REALLY appreciate #3. I am so tired of the standard and robotic corporate greeting, "welcome in" that has seemed to engrain the western culture. I remember the first Black Bear lunch I had, maybe 20 years ago in Redding. I remember the lady sitting down in the booth to take may order as though we were friends. It was like I was back in the south (Little Rock) and that waitress made me feel as though we were family and/or just good friends, asking me how my day was going, and asked like she meant it. Anyway, I snapped a few photos before leaving and they thanked me for my service to our country. I think Bob and Bruce who I think started Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta City 30 + years ago should be pleased and proud that what they started back then still holds true today!

Late lunch and the place was almost full as the first 2 of our group of 3 cars arrived (6 people) we (3) arrived 35 mins behind them and they had requested two tables to cater for the full group. I've been to many Black Bear Diners and this one is a good one. Especially when being snowed in on a snowy night. The chicken and waffle were hot, fresh and perfectly cooked. I asked for extra fixings and they did not disappoint. Portions were like truck stop portions... plentiful. The staff was quick and efficient. Well staffed location and clean. I've visited numerous Black Bear Diners, and this one stands out, especially during a snowy night when we were snowed in. The chicken and waffles were served hot, fresh, and cooked to perfection. I'm thankful they were open!

Well, after a very long wait, with 6 other parties, who came after us, getting seated before us, we finally got seated. While we were waiting, I observed the Hostess, constantly pulling down her facemask to talk to the patrons, which was defeating the entire reason she was wearing the facemask!! We sat down in the freshly sanitized booth, gave our order, sat & watched all the goings on & sipped our water. Our Server brought me my salad, it was crispy, crunchy romaine, big cherry tomatoes, shredded carrot, many slices of cucumber & a side of blue cheese. It came with a corn bread muffin. I started to eat my salad, when my dining partner got miffed, he asked another server, why his salad wasn't served at the same time mine was. She graciously brought his salad out, which was the same salad as mine, but way bigger than mine, for some odd reason & he got 1000 Island with his. My Blue Cheese Dressing was the best I have ever tasted. We were eating our salad, when our food came out. That was fast cooking!I ordered the Meatloaf dinner, asked for a salad instead of squash or green beans, still got green beans. The Green beans were cooked in some kind of broth, with bacon & onion. I tasted one & it was good. I just don't like Green beans cooked that way. My Meatloaf was SO good, I cannot even describe it. 3 huge slabs, covered in brown gravy, with 2 onion rings on top. Please read the description, of the Meatloaf, on the menu photo!! The flavor was as if they had someones Great Grandmother, held captive in the Kitchen & she was using her Ancestors secret Meatloaf recipe! I kid you not, I truly can't say enough good about it. My Baked Potato was cooked as it should be & I smothered it in Butter & Sour Cream. My dining partner ordered Rib Eye Steak, a Baked Potato & Green Beans. He received mashed Potatoes with gravy & was not pleased, that he didn't get his baked potato, as he asked for. He did however, say his Rib Eye Steak was excellent. The staff was obviously stressed out, it was extremely hectic, but they were super nice & didn't take it out on each other, or on the clientele. I didn't give 5 stars for the issues outlined in my review. I would though, return for all the good things, outlined in my review. My only wish, is that we should have purchased one of their obviously decadent desserts, that we kept seeing, fly by. I am going to visit the one location, closer to home, just to try a dessert. Thank you Black Bear Diner Yreka, you did, do well.

Black Bear Diner's are always pretty good. This was no different. They were out of some stuff on this day, but still had a great lunch. I finally tried the Cheeseburger Salad and it was very good. Nice stop if you're heading up or down I-5.

We had an amazing breakfast, and the waitress was very kind and we loved her. The food arrived very quickly, and all of food was hot and fresh. We had liquid diarrhea (waterfalls) later on in the evening and the following day. 🥰⛲🤢

Black Bear Diner is like going back in time. It's kind of what you expect from a diner but we liked it. I had the veggie scramble with hash browns. Top layer of hash browns was good, under part was not as much. My husband had the Bear's Choice Breakfast. I also had the cookies and cream milkshake which was really good. Service was good. Bathroom was clean.

I would say meatloaf was good, as some desserts. Waitress was more alert of customers and their needs. Last time different waitress had taken orders and then seen her when time pay.

Current menu as of JUNE 25 2025 The hostess wasn't paying attention to the line so I shouted i was next . Communication between staff isn't good. The actual server was nice. So you get an extra star for that. Yall need to do something about the bread pudding demand. Never have any by 10am and that goes for the mt Shasta location which I suspect is owned by the same people as this yreaka location. Make more bread pudding....you make more money. You know, instead of being sold out and unhappy customers.

Salad was pretty good was a Taco Salad. I Would recommend it, fresh ingredients and shell was cooked perfectly. Waitress was very good. However the people working in back room bus boy and dish washers were the most rude and annoying staff I have seen in a while. I am far from a prude and love music yet they had some extreme Punk music blasting from the dish washing area. Every time the door swung open this extreme punk music, with very colorful language which amazed me. It was bad enough that after 15-20 minutes of this I asked for my check and left before finishing my food. It was not just me I am a 45 year old man who loves loud music I was embarrassed for the senior citizens that were in there. I made eye contact a few times and could just sense the disappointment in the room. It was the bus boy, dishwasher and one other gentleman in the back room that just were bad energy. I was surprised every time I have been to Black Bear I have left very happy. Can’t say that any longer.

Black Bear Diner has some great breakfast options, good burgers, and sandwiches. The location in Yreka was clean with a friendly staff. The bathrooms were one person each which can lead to some wait times. This is a real oversight having two restrooms that accommodate one person each for a restaurant that seats at least 100 people.

I ordered our food without mushrooms as we are allergic to them. No problem the waitress said. It's a good thing I expect closely before eating, the gravy had mushrooms in it. So we called the waitress back over, she apology took the food back and then came back with the same dish and told us the cook said he can't take the mushrooms out. It comes this way in a bag. By now everyone is finishing but my daughter and me. The waitress said she could get us something else. I'm like I'm not going to make everyone wait 30 min for us. She apology and said she would take the meals off the ticket. My son didn't double check, when I got home and was filing my receipts away I saw where I was still charged for 2 dinners that we sent back and didn't eat. When I called I was inform I should of said something then. How do they know I'm not lying.

It was just ok and not as good as other locations I've been to. I hated the fact that this poster was eight in my face while I tried to eat. When I dressed Corprate about it on Instagram I was pretty much blown off, and my concerns not addressed.

Was okay… pot roast was good, but luke warm at best. Onion rings and Green beans were on the cold side. Black berry Cobbler was okay, a little on the tart side but big enough for 2. Service was okay as well, only seen one waitress for entire section…. Loud screeching kids, not BB fault. Restaurants need to have a section for families with loud kids, or better yet….. parents control ur kids

Food was good as always. Host unfortunately was not aware of specials, the reason a bear is marked next to menu items and forgot kids menus for our children. She was very nice though. Our server was great. Overall, not the best service we have had at BBD but considering the location, we would be back if ever in the area again.

Love this place love the staff when I go in there to sit down. But my DoorDash orders are never right (Pancake's no syrup) missing Drinks. No chicken on my taco salad etc always something missing. Hope someone fixes it because it’s a great place that I love to order from them from home.

Hey, I’ve worked in food and retail.. I know it’s not easy. It’s just that it’s so cold outside and I drove to the Yreka location Friday especially for the fish and then to be out is so frustrating when you send emails saying we can “count on it”. Could you order more next time or change it from all you can eat to just a fish dinner so that those of us that don’t get out of work until after like 5pm can get some fish? There are so few options in Yreka so thanks for being here.

What a treat! The Tri-Tip Dip was absolutely delicious — tender, flavorful, and satisfying. The kids really enjoyed their Grilled Cheese and BLT sandwiches, which were well-prepared and hit the spot. The only downside was the customer service. Staff seemed more focused on chatting with friends than clearing tables or checking in with customers, which took away from an otherwise great dining experience. We had been going to Black Bear for quite a few years until recently The Waitresses don't pay attention to your order when you say no onions they will give you double onions and the food has been cold the last couple times not to mention getting charged double on two of our orders

My husband and I have been long time fans of Black Bear, I ordered dinner delivered on February 1st as they didn't have the dessert I ordered and specifically love the bread pudding. I understand they are out but your restaurant refused to put the money for the missing item back on our card. It makes me sad that this is your policy and I will no longer give you my business

The food is stupendous. Everything is delicious but the service was terrible. Not once did the waitress come to my table to ask for coffee refill. And when I got to the register they handled pies with their bare hands which is a health violation. If you're handling money you have to put gloves on when you're handling food. I don't know why the restaurant allowed the checkout person to not wear gloves. Very disappointed in this one. The other ones were great

After having vehicle troubles. We had to get a motel. Been to a few black bear diners before and had great experiences. The town not having any place to get a rental car we had to use doordash. We got our food on time. It was missing both my daughter's and my onion rings. Now as a doordasher my self is know the bags are sealed. The meat on our burgers was in pieces and every time we tried to pick it up it just fell apart. This was the first time I have ever been so disappointed in black bear diner.

We have been eating at Black Bear for years but tonight we had the worst experience. We ordered 2 salads with extra dressing and a black berry cobbler to go. We got home and there was no extra dressing, both salads were very watery, and we did not receive our cobbler. When we called, we were told if we could provide the receipt next day we would receive our cobbler. There was no real customer service provided and since we were not provided a receipt, we will be unable to get the product we paid for. We are disappointed because this used to be a great place to eat with good food and service. It's gone a long way down hill and we won't be going back any time soon.

Came in the back way. Didn't know this because it was our first time. It was cold and we were a small family looking for a warm booth under a heater but instead found a few booths to still be dirty so we grabbed the big booth in the corner instead. We've been driving so didn't even think about putting our stuff down as everyone settled and came back from the bathrooms. We sat for 20 min. Buss boy came to tell us we needed to wait to be seated took our drinks walked away. When our server ( woman with tattoos ) came to our table the first thing she said was,”oh sorry for the wait just thought you had more joining you.” ( she could of greeted us and asked ) She hardly came by the table. Offered us lemons for the hot water that was ordered and did not bring them. Was asked multiple times what our drinks were, ordered two hot waters with two coffees, and had to ask again for another hot water that never came to the table. When our food arrived it was cold and looked like it sat under a heated lamp or was thrown in the microwave. You know when the cheese has that kind of look to it and the omlete starts looking greasy and tomato bites are soggy.. Then caught the kitchen crew through the reflection in the window not taking orders seriously. Almost acting like it was funny. As if poor customer service is acceptable. Scolding, shaming, and messing with the food isn't a good look Black Bear.

Your thanksgiving meal sucked your service sucked we come here every year and this was by far the worst thanksgiving ever at black bear in Yreka. Will not be returning.

This place took almost 25 minutes just to take our order then took another 25 minutes to get the order to us. If you have all the time in the world then this is the place for you but if not do not go there.

Black bear diners are usually very nice. My experience at this one, NOT GOOD!!!...First the host that seated us was unfriendly with a bad attitude. Also the music was so loud, couldn't even talk across the table. So...got a to-go box and left my drink behind. Our bill was $60...what a waste!!!

We waited a long time when they would offer us a place, until I myself asked if we would have stood at the door for a long time. Burger is delicious and big. but on the mug with hot cocoa there were traces of someone else's lipstick🤮 True, they brought me another mug with hot cocoa. there was no hand paper in the toilet.

The prices were high and the food was not nearly worth the price. Nothing had a homemade taste to it. The loaded potato soup was terrible. Lumpy and tasted like paste. I’ve always had better experiences at black bear. Not sure if it the location or if the whole chain has gone downhill. But I’ll spend my money somewhere else.

DO NOT spend time here if you are a commuter passing by for a rest stop. Just 1 bathroom for whole diner. Expect Long queues!! The servers have no sense of taking orders based on first come first served. We waiting 28 mins and then had to leave, very annoyed and disappointing. People at the counter were rude. They were serving random tables, irrespective of who came first. Very unprofessional!! If you have 2 hrs to sit and relax then may be stop here, but there are a lots of good places in the vicinity

Disappointed in service & food here. In the middle of making a Togo order, waitress stopped to take a phone call of an order she placed for Togo order and it was wrong. She walked away and talked to irate customer and I gave order to another waitress. Simple grilled chicken Cobb salad. Both waitresses placed 4 dressings in a bag and then my salad. I asked her to remove 3 dressings I won’t use and left. The salad had very few ingredients and the chicken was FRIED! It was like trying to chew rubber and was cold. My dog couldn’t eat it and I had to throw it I. The trash. Garbage! I had pulled off freeway driving from Cali to Oregon and expected a healthy, fresh meal. That was NOT THE CASE. Poor service and terrible food. $20 (salad and tip) for garbage. Will not return and do not recommend. Also trash area filthy outside. Wonder what kitchen looks like? Not fresh, lacking care in prep, old, dried out fried chicken pieces inedible.
